I went to Dermatology Associates in winter 2019 - early 2020, and was thrilled with the results. The care was very professional, and the follow up after my procedure was a nice touch. I recommended them to my cousin, and she also had great results last summer. The doctors are highly experienced, and theyre one of the most established practices in the Winchester area. Highly recommend.

If I could give zeros stars, I would. My husband has a painful and rare skin condition that, when in flared mode, is unbearable. It was infected and they waited five days to determine it was infected, which I knew just from looking at it! They gave him a topical steroid to rub on when it is absolute torcher to touch it. No empathy, sympathy, or common sense in that place! Do not go there!

Staff very courtesy, front staff went extra mile to help arrange transportation issue. There was a brief wait prior to being seen, but this is to be expected as I was provided the same care as the patient prior to me.

I currently work for this office as a medical assistant with Dr. Mathieu and have been with the practice almost a year now. I have over 9 years of experience as a medical assistant with 8 years dedicated to dermatology. I can personally assure you that he as well as every other doctor in this practice are very dedicated to our patients, highly knowledgeable and skilled in what they all do. It saddens me to see and read such experiences others have had. I will say first and foremost that our wait time to see the doctor may be long on some days, but that is because WE ARE A SPECIALTY office. We never know what is going to come through our doors. Somethings that we do in the room with the patients are quick things while others may require more time. HOWEVER, I can promise that our doctors will be sure to spend just as much time and dedication to each patient we see. As far as having to pay for services, we fully explain to our patients that things that are considered to be cosmetic by insurance companies may require a patient to pay an out of pocket expense. We do try and bill insurances first but in some cases it is not deemed medically necessary and the patient may end up having to pay out of pocket. We also explain this and have patients sign waiver forms about this. A big thing I also read was about our phones and making appointments. We have changed phone systems and each doctor now has their own phone lines for patients to leave messages on. The nurses check the phone line throughout the day, hopefully helping to eliminate the wait times to be called back. I hope whoever reads this can get a better understanding from the other side of the bad reviews and know that our office is striving to make changes for the better. I truly believe we have a great office, dedicated staff and doctors!

Always a long, long, long wait. Inefficient. A real trial. Have been here multiple times. Refuse to go back for my own treatment but still must take my grandparents here. Never once have I had a good experience. Poor communication on the part of the front office. Always over booked and crowded and poorly, poorly managed.

I was recommended by a friend to see Dr. Flax, so I looked up the reviews of this office and found there were several poor reviews. I work in customer service so I went in with an open mind. I want to say that I had a lovely visit, all the staff were friendly, polite, and professional. I was seen right on time by Dr. Flax. He was very thorough in addressing all my concerns and took the time to write down the things he was recommending so that I would have them for later. I am always concerned about paying for my services when leaving an office but the lady in billing was very nice and reassured me my insurance would be billed and I didn’t have a co-pay that day. It was a very pleasant visit and I would recommend them.

This is office is unprofessional and rude. I have had three appointments with Dr. Mathieu and two of those have had to be cancelled and rescheduled from him. Was supposed to have my stitches out today, but of course i received a phone call needing to reschedule. Brittany, who was very rude called and said i could just go to urgent care to have them out or whoever I want her exact words. Meaning i would have to spend MORE money, having another doctor take them out. Dr. Mathieu should have to complete the job that he started. Does he not care how the incision looks, if it gets infection? I do NOT recommend this office.

The first time I tried Dermatology Associates was in early 2019. I had a cosmetic procedure after a thorough and helpful free consultation. The results were fantastic—a year later my skin remains free of dark spots and sun damage that I had dealt with for a long time! Highly recommend their services due to the care and the use of the latest non-invasive procedures.

The entire staff is rude and too busy ordering lunch at 11:45am while turning away appointments. My daughter is a minor and showed up to her appointment herself as she drives. The woman at the front desk huffed as she smacked her forehead saying looks like mother didn’t sign the paper . My daughter called me asking if I could get out of work to sign the paper. I said yes I’ll be right over. The ladies at the front desk starting to order cheese steaks over the phone and then turned to my daughter saying if your mother doesn’t come soon we are going to lunch and will have to reschedule your appointment until the 21st, which would be a month away. My daughter was upset saying okay never mind, asked for her insurance card back. I then contacted Lisa the office manager and shared my concerns. She informed me that the doctor doesn’t go to lunch and there is always someone there at the front desk and that the ladies could ha e simply seen my daughter while getting consent with me over the phone and just having to sign the paper at a later date. They don’t care obviously about their patients more about lunch !

I expected a lot of negative reviews due to the usual wait here, so I wanted to write about my experiences with Dermatology Associates, which have only been positive. I’ve been a patient since 2008, when I asked my mother if I could visit a dermatologist for my acne (which I found to be extremely painful and life affecting). It was my decision to go to the only woman doctor at this practice, Dr. Bogaert, with whom I felt most comfortable. I loved her immediately. She is so genuinely kind and as a shy 13-year-old with acne, that was all I could ask for. She immediately diagnosed me with severe acne and I only have the occasional pimple now. I underwent treatment, which required me to visit every month and I have always had great experiences with the staff as well as Dr. Bogaert. Now, my entire family goes to her! It’s funny because someone on here wrote advising to travel to Sterling or Centreville instead, whereas I live in Burke now and travel to Winchester specifically to be seen by Dr. Bogaert. There is a lengthy wait (average 30-45 minutes each visit), but I just bring my kindle. I know it bothers a lot of people, but I know to expect it, so it really doesn’t bother me.

Ive been impressed by the level of patient care with Dermatology Associates, in that I dont feel rushed in and out and I also feel the physicians take the time to inform you of various options, products and procedures so you can make solid decisions. They have a positive reputation lasting over 2 decades in the Winchester area for a reason!

Im surprised by some of the negative reviews. My experiences have been very positive. It IS a busy office, but I found the staff to be very competent & efficient.Dr. Katy Mercy performed my procedure & she is exceptional with a great personality! She even followed up with a phone call the next day to make certain everything went well. The final visit for suture removal was quick & painless!Id recommend this practice & more specifically, Dr. Mercy, whom I will not hesitate to see in the future!

This is our only local dermatologist office and the service is awful. I had to wait for over a month for an appointment to have a small skin tag removed from my daughters armpit. The doctor took one look at it and accused me of being vain for wanting it removed and told my daughter it would hurt, which made her a nervous wreck when we took her to another office out of town to have it done. His tone towards me was rude and condescending. Plus, the nurse or whoever she was who worked there got into my face and was moving her shoulders around like bv she was going to fight me on the way out, because I requested not want to pay for that awful appointment in which they wasted our time, insulted me, scared my daughter, and provided no actual service. Something is wrong with this office. I dont know how they are still in business.

Stay clear of this practice. No one returns phone calls, messages or website email inquiries. If they dont have time to respond, then they dont have time to provide a service either. Just my opinion from my experience. Judge for yourself.

I was misdiagnosed by Dr. Bogaert for a year, in 2015. I kept asking about my nose & she brushed me off saying it was nothing in a hurried manner. When I pointed my nose out a 3rd time, a year later in 2016, (after her exam) she seemed startled & said shed never seen this before. She actually argued with me that (again) shed never seen this place.I told her to check back in my records as I was concerned in the past. She still claimed innocence but the staff in looking back mentioned that my concern was on file. Unfortunately, I had Mohls surgery & it took 4 attempts to remove the cancer, & Im still having problems. I no longer am a patient with her. Nice staff, very dedicated-its the doctor I question.

Doctor treated me with disdain. Like I was wasting his time. No concern about diagnostics .Spent maybe less than 5 mins with me . Should have posted this earlier. For good health care go to UVA, INOVA, or Hopkins. Dont trust your health to the sub-par quacks here in Winchester.

Very large office with many practitioners, theirs therefore not a personal experience. Had a few skin tags and papule removed, which are not uncommon for me. Very surprising that the office is not latex free, as I had to remind the assistant and doctor to glove correctly before treating me, as neither read my medical history before gloving to examine me. Uncomfortable experience......

I started getting cystic acne right after my divorce years ago. Initially this practice helped by prescribing antibiotics. As time passed my flare ups were minimal with no need to see a doctor. Just in the last few months it has come back with a vengeance and when I called to get an appointment I was told because of the length of time since I had been seen by this practice that it would be 3 to 4 months before they could fit me in. Are you serious! Anybody who has suffered with cystic acne knows how horribly painful and sabotaging to your self esteem it is and for a Doctor to put you off that long is not only insane but inhuman. I would not recommend this practice to anyone, unless of course you feed their wallets often enough to stay current patient status. Very disappointing.

This place is expensive for what little they can do out of the little availability they have. I expected a one-day visit, now being pushed back another month for treatment and operation. The doc doesnt have time for a 15 minute operation even after I waited a half hour on him! Theyll schedule multiple appointments with you to get their moneys worth and couldnt care less about treating you like a number.
