Excellent experience at Auto Tech last week. My car was having issues starting on a regular basis so I set up an appointment for Auto Tech to look at it. The morning of the appointment I met Chris, the owner. His mechanics had the problem diagnosed quickly, the new part ordered, delivered, installed and back to me in record time, and for a very reasonable price. Highly recommend Auto Tech and will now take my car there for all its repair needs, they treated me fairly, did not overcharge me, kept me informed, and are a locally owned Christian business.
Had the head gaskets on my Subaru outback replaced at 109,000 mi, 20,000 mi later head gaskets blew again. Took the Subaru to the local Subaru dealer, tech that did the disassembly at the dealer indicated the wrong head bolts had been put back in the wrong place and led to the head gasket failure. Ive read good reviews from them on Honda service. Subarus are somewhat eccentric would recommend taking them to a Subaru specific shop.
We love these guys. We take all of cars to them. They were recommended highly by other mechanics in town and they have never let us down. Their honesty, pricing and timeliness are what keep us going back!
Did a great job on my truck,. auto Tech is my shop to go to now
We have been taking our my wifes Acura there for about 4 years. Prompt, fair, and down to earth. Its also nice to see the same faces there. Weve used them for oil changes, brakes, inspections etc.
They sent the wrong information to the DMV on a routine inspection report and then hinted I should call the police because my VIN was tampered with. DMV investigation determined their mechanics hand keyed the VIN. Owner refused to admit this and denied it. Cost me months of headache. Not the first time Ive had trouble with them. Neighbors also said they didnt trust Auto Tech either. Will NEVER go back there. Ive had trouble getting another vehicle fixed there as well- took six trips to get the light off - they admitted they made a mistake that time at least....
DO NOT USE THESE GUYS!! I should have stopped going here when they couldnt manage to fix a simple problem on my wifes truck and made me drive back three times to make the light go off for them but the REAL problem came when I took it to them for a routine inspection (which I passed). DMV determined they hand coded my VIN into their machines instead of scanning it into the system like a normal mechanic. What happened was they WROTE THE VIN DOWN WRONG which set off a series of errors which resulted in MONTHS of me not being able to get my tags. The state said the inspection report didnt match the VIN on file. Simple error right? Well when I called the owner Chris and told him I thought he had written the VIN down wrong, he said they NEVER do that and they always scan them. Well, the state of NC and the DMV tracked the error down to Auto Tech. Anyways, when I pointed this out to Chris, he told me he thought WE SHOULD GET THE COPS INVOLVED because it sounded like someone was tampering with my VIN. Haha. He literally said the cops needed to get involved because of fraud. YOUR SHOP DID IT CHRIS. It took me four months to get my tags because they didnt do the VIN right. The DMV said perhaps their scanning machines were broken or they didnt know how to use their scanning machines. Anyways, when I called Chris back and told him this (once the state tracked down the source of the problem - HIM), he got very defensive, repeated his conclusion and said he was recording the call. Nice way to treat people, Chris. Ive told lots of people already about how you treat customers and how your mistakes can set people back. In my opinion, there are far more trustworthy and honest and PROFESSIONAL mechanics in Wilmington.
They were thorough and communicated well. And with having an older car, it makes sense to have a mechanic who you trust.
Chris and crew run a very efficient and honest shop. They have always gone above and beyond in helping me with my Honda and Lincoln. I would never go anywhere else for my auto repair!
Student discounts, honest work, far better pricing than AAA, Firestone and dealer (Timing Belt on daughters car cost $200 less than the aforementioned places). Daughter went off to college at UNCW. I usually do most repairs myself but the distance was an issue. Glad we found a Honda specialist! When we replaced the Civic with a Nissan Cube, Auto Tech proved to be THE place again! Nissan wanted $450 to replace the valve gasket because you have to remove the intake manifold to get to it. Auto Tech did put for under $200. Ive trusted my daughters car her all throughout college. No up charges and honest repairs done right the first time! Thanks Chris and team!12/4/2020 UpdateChis is amazing! We had a recent issue with head gasket failure. Essentially the previous work performed by Auto Tech was flawless but the part failed. The problem is my daughter graduated UNCW and is now living in Charlotte, 200 miles away! What a quandary! Chris went above and beyond by contacting the NAPA supplier and through his network membership with NAPA, offered a remote NAPA warranty solution where a shop here in Charlotte was paid to perform the work. Kudos to NAPA for standing behind their product and special thanks to Chris for standing behind his commitment to customers, even though we are 200 miles apart! This is customer service and integrity at its best! I feel any other shop would not have gone the extra mile to make things right! Christmas came early for my daughter this years and Chris played the role of Santa Chris Kringle!
They close at 530 and we called at 438 and said I could bring my car over to get it looked at and they stayed to help us. 10/10 would definitely recommend. Very friendly and great service.
Auto tech has been and again today was such a wonderful experience! They always handle us as customers and my vehicle in the most professional manners. They are very transparent and informative about all process and times estimated! I drive from Fayetteville, NC to Auto Tech because they do such an awesome job handling my business both as a customer and my vehicle needs! Thank you Auto Tech for your surpreme service Everytime!!
Good group of people! Fair, compassionate, and informative!
The staff was very friendly. I was concerned about my brakes on my car. I really thought that something was wrong with me hearing noise. They had me come in at 8:00 a.m. and they checked my brakes and told me what was going on. Thank you Auto Tech 😊 for saving me mone finding nothing wrong. I will be back.
Unlike other shops, they know what theyre doing! Theyre very knowledgeable! 5 stars from me! Keep up the good work!
DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLES HERE!!!THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE !!!My mother was repeatedly ripped off for a year. They never took the time to figure out the problem and she was nervous to drive her only vehicle any distance due to continuous over heating. They keep doing little stuff here and there just to take her money and not to solve the problem. My poor mother spent so much time and money there during that YEAR!!!! I finally got her to come out to my mechanic and her “year long” issue was solved in less than a week and her vehicle runs great with no problems.NO THANKS TO AUTO TECH !!
Didnt have to wait for a oil change👍👍
I took my 1993 Jeep Wrangler in for a small issue. These guys were more than willing to help me out. Loved everything about the service here. Im bringing Jeep back for a lift in the near future. I highly recommend this place for all your auto repairs/ needs.
Honest..thorough
Dropped by today to set up an appointment that would typically take at least a day or two. They got me up on the lift, confirmed my concern, tracked down the correct part, double-checked that it was the correct part, ordered the part, had it delivered immediately, repaired my car, quoted me a price that didnt change, and had me on my way. Hand shakes, honesty, and professionalism. This is my 4th time having a significant repair handled by this business, and I have been happy every time. Trustworthy and fair.
This is the second major repair Ive had them do. Excellent job, they seem to understand how important vehicles are to their owners. Especially those who use them for work. Finished in two days even with having to order parts from out of town. Good job Chris and your staff. Definitely have my highest recommendation.
Ive used this shop for over 10 years for an Accord I used to own and the MDX I currently own. They are fair and reasonable. Chris, Joel and their staff do a good job. I trust them and have found them to be resourceful whenever a car issue or question comes up. I would highly recommend this shop over the local dealer.
Great service! Couldnt be happier! I called that afternoon brought the car right in because the service light was on for the 4th time. Everything was diagnosed and fixed and I was able to pick the car up that evening. Thank you Joel and crew!
Auto Tech serviced my Honda Civic the 4 years I lived in Wilmington and I never trusted anyone else with my car. Whether it was an oil or tire change, I went to them and got excellent service at a fair price. My husband and I moved to California and I still call them if I have a question about my Honda before taking it to a mechanic out here. I highly recommend them!
OK so here is how my Experience at auto tech was this past week. I had spent an entire month working on my 2001 Acura TL myself, and had spent nearly $500 in replacement parts as result from the codes being read from the computer. I called around to dealerships, and a few different mechanics that were going to charge me just for dropping it off. Then i came across Auto Tech on Google and noticed they had some bad reviews... That is not the case at all, The people at Auto Tech on Carolina Beach Rd. in Wilmington, NC are amazing, kind, and very helping people. After i called down to Auto Tech i noticed right off the bat they are RESPECTFUL, TAKE YOUR WORD FOR IT IF YOU SAY YOUVE REPLACED SOMETHING, AND DONT CHARGE YOU FOR B.S!!!In Fact here is exactly what happened,I called down there, talked to a very knowledgeable woman about what my car was doing who wrote everything down that i said and took it up the chain of command and within the hour i received a phone call. I ended up taking the car down to the shop the next Monday morning and walked home. Then i they called me with what was wrong and what it would take to get it fixed and quoted me a price, then later that evening they called back to let me know they would be staying late to get it done for me! When i mentioned i would walk down in the morning they wouldnt let me say no to them picking me up FREE OF CHARGE and told me they would have taken me home had they of known. Now for the part, I GOT CHARGED UNDER $200!THESE PEOPLE ARE AMAZING & I MOST DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THEM!!
Amazing service and really good people.
Im somewhat new to Wilmington living here for 16 years 😁. For most of my driving life Ive had friends in the business who helped me along with repairs and maintenance on many cars. Last week I got a trouble code I couldnt resolve... Management and technicians worked way beyond expectations to solve the problem, clear the codes and get this car back on the road. These guys are your friends in the business.
Great prices and great work. The only place I will go and the company I work for goes there as well and has no complaints.
I was disappointed in the service provided by this establishment because they came recommended. However, I thought price of my repairs was high and suggested many small repairs beyond what I came in for. On two separate occasions, I went for a second opinion and received a different, cheaper estimate. While the staff was friendly, I found another location for repairs that I thought was more honest with me.
Had them (attempt to) fix my door locks. They hired an outside subcontractor, who Botched job entirely, then they wouldnt make it good. Disappointed.
Great place, very honest..been using them for years for my 3 Hondas. My brother and I took our elderly moms 2013 Kia Soul in for what we thought was a front strut issue based on the knocking noise. They looked over the car and determined it was actually a steering rack issue and looked into it online. They saw that Kia issued a technical service bulletin and extended the warranty and directed us to the kia dealer. They printed off the kia TSB directions to provide to the dealer so there would be no question. We were charged a nominal fee for their time, which I feel is very reasonable. This goes to show their integrity, as they could have done the repair themselves and charged us. I will continue to patronize Auto Tech.
COMPLETE RIP OFF SCAM ARTISTS - BEWARE!!!!I have lived in Wilmington my entire life and I use to go to Auto Tech (previously called Honda Specialist) frequently. Yes, they have friendly people working - it is no excuse for their shady and chicanery way they do business! It wouldnt surprise me to find out they had to change their name because of it.They replaced my timing belt since my Honda was at around 80K miles. Well guess what snapped 27K miles later? They said their warranty only covers up to 24K miles. In my 25 years of driving and owning close to a dozen cars, I have never had a timing belt break (even the Honda manual states to change them every 70 - 80K miles).Once I told my dad, he said they had tried to rip him off. He stopped in to have his brakes looked at and they replaced his belts. The same belts he had just replaced two weeks earlier at Firestone. When my Dad called him out on and asked him to show him the old belts he at first refused, then admitted to just changing them and charging for it.Then, when my sister was there having her Honda worked on, they broke a part and tried to charge to fix it. My brother-in-law took it up with the owner (Chris) who then agreed to fix everything they broke.I will never go there again or recommend anyone else does either. I am positive the good reviews came from the owners and employees.
I have requested several times to be removed from Auto Tech email list. I have expressed that I would not be returning but Auto Tech keeps reminding me I should share my experience with others. It has been over a year since I have had my vehicle in for service. Used them twice and second time was very shady. $500 estimate to install a $150 part. Owner told me that it was a bear of a job and was being really pushy trying to get me to pay up front while they had to order the part. My oxygen sensor took me 20 minute on my back in the driveway. Sure the tech could take his morning coffee while doing it in their shop.
What a rip off, this place tried to scam me. They removed #13 fuse and tried to tell me that the most expensive part the main computer ($500) needed replaced. Two weeks later, with a wiring diagram, I discover that fuse #13 was removed. I check them before I took the car in, I even told them that. Apparently there is no communication between the desk and service guys. They messed with the wrong back yard mechanic. I am reporting them to the better business bureau. I paid $108 for a wrong diagnosis. Buyers beware!
Great shop. Been usimg them for years
Weve been going to Auto Tech for over 10 years and have found Chris and his staff to be very courteous and spot on with the technical issues weve had with our various vehicles. We can trust their recommendations. Will always go back!
Chris and his crew do Amazing work. He will be honest and wont lead you wrong. I drive Rideshare (uber/lyft) and tend to need my vehicle worked on more than the avg person. I couldnt be happier with the services that his shop offers. I would highly recommend Auto Tech.
Chris and his crew have been my Honda gurus for over 20 years and 2 Hondas, and I am about to turn my 3rd car over to them. They have always done excellent work (one of my Hondas was still running fine when I sold it - at 13 years and over 200,000 miles, and the other had its life ended prematurely by a rear-end collision at 16 years and over 100,000 miles). These are great people - honest, straightforward and they do excellent work at reasonable rates. I recommend them to others freely and no one has come back with a complaint.
Good service, fair price. Seem to do well with figuring whats wrong and solving the problem.
Took my is300 here for timing belt and water pump. These mechanics know what they are doing and I have zero complaints. Quick professional and fairly priced.
Their service is bar none! I recommend them to everyone I meet. They are fair, honest and will bend over backwards for their customers!!
FRAUD: Dont use this garage. They tried to rip off my Husband. Auto tech diagnosed a $500 main computer replacement. However, (Auto tech) took out fuse #13 which connects to the vehicle main relay. This prevented the car from starting. What a scam .50 cent fuse and the car runs perfect. SO MUCH for Auto tech being a pro! Customers BEWARE!
This service station is completely dishonest and overcharges massively. They took advantage of my elederly parents who brought-in their car on a tow truck for brake failure. They charged them $2,700 to apparently change the brake lines and now (less than 2 months later) the car is making terrible noises from the brakes. Took it to a proper mechanic and it turns out that the left rear calliper is completely rusted stuck and is not releasing and has worn-out the brake rotor and created a fire hazard. The front rotors are also worn out. Not only did Auto Tech do nothing for the $2,700 they charged, but they never even bothered to check the brakes for a car that was brought-in on a tow truck with brake failure, requiring an $1,100 complete replacement of ALL brake rotors and pads. The abused my elderly parents and robbed them of money and even having robbed them permitted a totally unsafe car to be taken back out on the road. Never take your car here and if you too received bad service from them and were massively overcharged, please report this shop to the Consumer Protection Bureau. I did. They are not only crooks, but also endanger their customers. They should be put out of business.
Great!
DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS GUY IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF. I wanted an estimate for 2 problems with my car and asked the receptionist if there was any charge for estimates. She looked me in the eyes and said no. When they called back, I told them I wanted them to do one of the jobs as money is tight right now with this sorry economy. Right after that, the receptionist told me they were hitting me with an additional $85 charge for the estimate because they said they had to diagnose the problem with their machine. I promptly reminded her of her word in the matter and even referred to my oil & lube center, BSI at Monkey Junction (an outstanding business by the way) which diagnoses problems for free with their machine. When they insisted on the bait and switch, I told them to forget ever doing work for me again. I just hope my experience will save some poor soul from being cheated in these desperate economic times.
**DONT DO IT**!!! Took my car for a antifreeze leak, they changed out my radiator and returned my car with it still leaking antifreeze causing my vehical to over heat which blew my headgaskets. They took no ownership for overlooking the fact that my car was still leaking antifreeze from the water pump. Auto Tech put stop leak in my mother to try and cover up the blown gaskets. I had my car towed to JS&J who were very professional and fixed my car thoroughly... very over priced, unethical, and has a bad reputation for misdiagnosing problems!👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
Had my Honda there for them to repair the AC. I told them it was an intermitting problem and would not cool when the interior of the car was hot. They check and told me the problem was the AC clutch spacing. They charged me 158.00 to do the adjustment. When I pick the car up and left the AC was still not working. So the service person comes out and beats on the compress with a large screw driver for a few minutes and then tells me the AC module in the dash was bad. Now they want me to pay another $150.00 to repair it. I guess if that doesn’t fix it, they will come up with something else and want more money.
Fantastic and fair across the board. I wish I lived closer, would use them all the time.
Great service and friendly staff.
I rarely write 1 star reviews, and maybe my case was a rare exception. Nonetheless: Brought my VW in to check the source of an oil leak. Service was friendly. Mechanic made a diagnosis and also mentioned that my windshield wipers were worn. I told him I had actually bought a drivers side one from auto zone the day before, which he offered to put on for me. Afterwards he didnt give me the box back that the new wiper came in but I didnt give it much thought. I was happy with my service overall until a few days later I had a VW tech look at my car and mention that my wipers were all in need of replacement. Sure enough, the wiper was the worn one. I called autotech and asked if they had switched it out, and if so did they at least have the box so I can return the new one, as its already worn down. They didnt have the box, so I went to Autozone to get a replacement wiper. At that time I realized that the drivers wiper matched the others on the car-- it was still the factory one. I knew this for a fact because the new wiper I had purchased previously was marked Bosch and the driver one had no brand printed on it. It matched the other factory wipers exactly. So obviously, the mechanic had not changed my wiper out and had kept the new one. It might have been an honest mistake but Im giving one star because I made three calls to try to get to the bottom of it, and they insisted they changed out the wiper that is still on my car, and scratched my windshield.
Ive taken my vehicles to this shop for decades and was surprised to read the negative reviews. After considering the tone and issues (1) it sounds like these are experienced complainers (2) it sounds like they are asking for free expert service. FYI, an estimate is free, a professional diagnostic exam is something you should expect to pay for. Auto Tech replaced a $50 part in my AC when I expected to buy a $1200 compressor, I saved $1150 and AC still blows cold years later. I took it in for new & expensive CV joints because its running loud, they tell me to stop buying cheap tires and my car will be more quiet, only charged me a diagnostic fee. When the glass companies and dealer wanted to soak me for a new Jeep windshield, auto tech found a technician to install a new one for about 1/2 the dealer rate. I estimate they are 40% less than the dealer, and only replace whats actually broken unlike the dealer. Its the only garage my wife will go to without me, like many ladies she is concerned about being charged for make-believe parts and work. She too has only had good experiences with auto tech.
They do a good job
This is a rip off place. I had my car 2006 Ford Focus sent there for a check up, i was quoted $1000 for three motor mounts, inner tie rod and wheel alignment. They told me that i had to replace three motor mounts, and its impossible for three motor mounts to go bad all at the same time, and i took the car at different location to replace the inner tie rod, alignment, and only one motor mount was bad. All together and original Ford parts were installed for only $280. YOU DO THE MATH!Will never go back to this location.
They are great.. And honest..
Excellent customer service
Absolutely horrible in every respect. No communication, no care, no dependability, nothing. At all costs, steer clear.
