It has been more than a month since meeting with Gary (Couragio Consulting) and I still feel the impact of our coaching. It pervades every part of my life. Do I present better now? Yes. Am I a more effective teacher now? Yes. But what is the most remarkable is how much better of a human I am: my capacity for empathy and understanding is increased. Thank you, Gary, for helping me to change.

The first time I ever worked with Gary, he was assigned to coach my singing group, Last Chance, on authenticity in performance for ten minutes. We had the last time slot of the night, and it was very late. After our planned ten minutes were up, he asked, How deep do you want to go? We continued our coaching session for a full hour after that because the quality of coaching was so high and because Gary was so generous of his time and his gifts. By the end of the session, all of us in the room were changed people, and had connected to very personal and real parts of ourselves.Weve worked with him a few times since then, and each time, he has perceptively assessed exactly what we needed from our session with him, and gotten us there with humor, sincerity, and compassion. Gary is one of our favorite performance coaches, and we would highly recommend him to anybody hoping to communicate more authentically and powerfully!

I met Gary at a time when I was trapped by my self-doubt as a performer. When I was on stage I had so many things racing through my mind: “Am I gonna get that high C at the end”, “what about my posture?”, “here comes the tricky part...” etc.Being a professional singer, I feel very relaxed on stage in front of a crowd. Nonetheless, eventhough I felt like I was getting the words and notes right, I just didn’t reach the audience by getting the message across.In the moment I thought I was doing a great job, but when I watched myself on video I noticed that I wasn’t even doing 30% of what I thought I was. Instead you could almost read my face for what I was thinking about. I always sang a song and acted like what I thought a person in that situation would look like. Gary changed the game entirely for me!He listens to what you have to say and approaches you with such respect that I had no problem at all trusting him completely and opening my mind for anything he was willing to teach me. Eventhough you need to get out of your comfort zone (don’t we all hate that?), he NEVER makes you feel weird or awkward; not even a little!He taught me not ‘to act’ but ‘to be’.
