Great staff. Great equipment. Some areas need improvement

We have used BlueLine Rental (Josh took GREAT care of us) on Scott Street for years when needing to rent equipment and had great experiences and were made to feel like our business was important to them. BlueLine has since closed and were consolidated with United Rental located at 6230 Southwest Parkway. I called last week on Thursday to rent a mini-excavator for a job we had scheduled for yesterday (5 business days later). I was told the equipment was reserved (on hold) for us and would be there when my guys arrived to pick up at 8 am yesterday. I offered to provide my credit card information for the hold of the equipment at the time I reserved it, but was told my employees could do so at pick up. When my employee arrived with our trailer to pick up reserved equipment, he was told that after a few days, equipment goes off hold. I had all of my employees lined up for the job we needed the equipment for, a customer with a hard deadline date of yesterday and a lot of money on the line for this. I had my employee put me on the phone with the manager (I assume) in an attempt to find out what was going on. He then told me the same thing he told my employee, that yes, the equipment had been on reserve for us, but after a few days, it is their policy that equipment goes off hold? I was never called in advance and given the opportunity to renew the hold. I was furious and explained to him what a poor business practice this was and what all was at stake for us if we were not able to get equipment for this job yesterday. He said they didnt have anything comparable available. Thankfully, we were able to use Pro Star Rental and get a mini-excavator (plus a free trailer) at a savings of more than half the cost quoted to me by United Rentals. Needless to say, we will not use this company again and Pro Star Rental has gained a faithful customer because of this policy (if this is even really a policy). I hope in the future they will rethink this policy. As a business owner myself, I never like to write a negative review on another business, but this was just plain and simple POOR business. We lost time and money trying to arrange for equipment needed to get the job done, but Pro Star Rental was AWESOME in getting us the equipment in a pinch, at a better price and with a free trailer to accommodate getting the equipment to the job site. I only gave United Rentals one star because this rating system would not allow me to post this review without at least highlighting one star. So very disappointed!
