Not sure what has changed with Dr. Boyle, Ive been going there for 10 years and have been able to make an appointment within a day or two for a Cortisone shot. They told me 2 weeks... Whats the point. Will not be going back...
I had a poor experience overall with Dr Boyles office, I am on the fence on going back again because the Dr and Nurse were excellent in person. My issues were scheduling (office forgot about my appointment), billing and poor attitude from the front desk.I made an appointment a month in advance over the phone, I arrived 15 minutes early as requested to fill out paperwork. The office didnt open that early so I waited in the building until they did open. Then the front desk gal advised that I did not have an appointment and they mailed me a letter telling me they had to change my appt. Which I never received. They had my phone # and email address but sent me a letter during covid 19 issues with the post office? She was very abrupt that she didnt think anyone was available and that it was my fault for showing up to my scheduled appt. The nurse and dr rushed to fit me in between other appointments which is a partial complaint in itself that I got rushed through.Billing - At the time I booked my appointment I asked about the billing codes and procedures for the appt I had setup (a fully body scan as I hadnt had that done before on the moles) so that there wouldnt be surprises on the bill. I called the insurance co with the code they gave and confirmed I was going to be billed for a specialist copay $55. A month later I received a bill for over $200. After calling the insurance co, the Dr. office billed me for a surgical procedure to take a sample of (1) mole and send it to the lab for testing. I thought that was part of the overall procedure. Unfortunately no one mentioned this was a separate procedure and would charge more money. I am half to blame for not asking more about this but again I was rushed through the whole appointment and frustrated with the scheduling / front desk issues. So $200+ it is.The good news is that the Dr and the nurse (whos name escapes me) were very friendly and warm. They also explained the procedure on what they were doing and expectations on timeframe best and worst case scenarios and their follow ups after the appt with test results were quick and easy to understand.
Always a short wait. Dr. Boyle and Kelly listen to my concerns and give great service. My visits have been primarily for skin tag removals.
My personal experience with Dr. Boyle has been great. I have psoriasis and shes all about trying new things. In and out always friendly.
Ive only seen Dr Boyle once in the 6 or more times that Ive been there and Im okay with that. She was very quick to end the appointment, (less than 10 minutes) as if she didnt have time to spend with me. I have however seen Kelly Pavelich and she is wonderful, really takes her time and explains each procedure and how it will affect me. If Kelly ever decides to leave this office I would follow her.
I have been seeing Sheila Boyle for many years, never had a bad experience. I never have to wait long to get in and she gets right to the point, takes care of it and Im out, I like quick, fast and easy, I dont like to wait or spend all day in a Dr office. They also are very easy to work with if you cant pay right away.
Dr Boyle was amazing she put our minds at ease and made us feel so comfortable
While visiting Dr. Boyles office for one problem, I inquired about treatment options for a broken blood vessel on my cheek. She recommended a laser treatment for $150 and told me it would quickly and easily take care of the problem. When I arrived for the following appointment, I waited for almost an hour to be seen. I was given a bill to pay before I had seen the doctor or had the procedure. When the doctor came in she recommended a $250 treatment instead and I was given a second bill to cover the difference. The numbing cream didnt have time to take effect before the doctor performed the procedure with a laser. I was told it would potentially take a few weeks to see results. When I called a month later to ask whether the results should be apparent by now, I was told that sometimes it takes more than one treatment and I will need to pay for a follow-up, even though the procedure took the doctor a total of less than 10 minutes. I was misled from the beginning about the effectiveness and pricing of this treatment, left to wait a long time in the waiting room for my appointment, rushed through the procedure, and when it didnt work as promised I was simply presented with the option to pay for it a second time. Thanks, but no thanks. If I do find the money to have this re-done, it will be by a different doctor.
Im only giving it two stars because I liked consulting with Dr. Boyles associate Kelly Pavelich, PA-C. Unfortunately, she has no idea how much her office charges for procedures. She wanted me to try a preventive test to see if I had genetic markers indicating possible future melanoma development. Theyd apply stickers to remove skin samples and send off to a lab. She said if it came back negative, that I could start coming to the office once a year instead of twice a year. She also said that most insurance covers it, but if they dont, it would only cost around $50.WELL. My results came back negative. So thats good. But she still wants to see me twice a year and wont provide me with a 12-mo prescription of my medication like she used to, which would force me to come in again in 3 months instead of 6 or 12 months. I also received a bill from the lab for $2400. Luckily insurance covered all but $100 of it. But then I got another bill from Boyles office claiming that I had a full-on biopsy performed and owed them $169 that wasnt covered by insurance. So for this diagnostic test I was on the hook for $269. Thats insane. Im not going back to this office ever again. Ill find someone else so I dont have to risk having an even higher bill next time I go in.
This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had while visiting a doctor. I had never been to a dermatologist, but needed to regarding my face and it being overly dry, but also decided to get an over all body screen. I needed to get undressed and Dr. Boyle came in took down my shirt to check me then left it open while she talked to me. I felt totally uncomfortable!!! When she finally told me to get dressed ( I had to ask if I could) one of her staff members walked in on me and did not turn around and leave - she continued to stay in the room while I was getting dressed! Dr. Boyle was totally fixated on the body check instead of what I actually when in for. She did not spend accurate amount of time to do a proper diagonals on me. She did the same as Liz and gave me a hand full of samples. She WOULD NOT listen to me when I spoke either. Then she took it upon herself to remove a mole which I was not explained that it would be removed and now I have racked up a bill for over $350! I recently had surgery on my mouth and it did not cost this much! I am definitely going to make a complaint - this is not good practice!
They were highly recommended by others so I called to be at a more local doctor that takes my insurance. I made an appointment a month out and they checked my insurance. Fast forward to today, they dont take my specific insurance plan and I sat here for 40 minutes for them to tell me that. I guess theyre liked by many so thats why theres 2 stars, didnt get to meet the doctor and now Im out another month at a different clinic 20 miles from my house again. Fml.
Production work! Still asking questions when Dr. Boyle was exiting the examination room. Called several days later and left a voice mail requesting information regarding lab work skin biopsy. Called again several days later, after not receiving a call back, and was told the lab results had been received 4 days prior and was given the excuse of being short staffed.
When I called to make my appointment as a new patient I was a little surprised when told I would have to pay a consultation fee. It was a cosmetic consultation and Ive never seen a charge for that with other offices. However, I was assured that the $95 cost would just be applied to any procedure that I get so I went ahead with the appointment. Within a few minutes into the consultation, Dr. Boyle was referring me to a different dermatologist. When I asked her why she was referring me to someone else-particularly after I was told that her consultation fee was going to be applied to a procedure she told me that I was obviously misinformed (how could that happen?), that she felt she had given me good information (nothing I didnt already know), and got up and walked out. I left there with the name of a different dermatologist and a prescription for a retinol at over-the-counter strength. I wish I would have read the reviews here and gone somewhere else to begin with.
I have been to see Dr. Sheila Boyle twice over the last few years and both times were pleasant. Reading the other reviews I was surprised by peoples comments. She is very friendly, patient, and professional. She never tried to push any products or procedures on me. She is honest, straight-forward, and teaches you what to look for as signs of skin cancer on your own moles.
Ive gone to see Dr. Boyle twice and referred my boyfriend to her also. The office itself is a bit run down and the receptionist seemed annoyed when I checked in. The wait to get an appointment was short and the lobby wait after checkin was short. The first time I went to find the cause of two different types of rashes that had been misdiagnosed twice by a primary care doctor. She was able to take a skin biopsy of one of them to confirm it was not fungal in origin. She was very professional and seemed very knowledgeable. She provided two kinds of ointments for two different rashes. Unfortunately, neither of them worked. I returned to have her look at suspicious possible skin cancer. Again, same experience. Unfriendly receptionist. No real wait. Dr Boyle came promptly into the room, was very friendly, took about 3 seconds to look at the skin area in question and said it was fine but we could freeze it and to schedule an annual exam and done. The billing staff was friendly and efficient. My problem is that I felt VERY rushed, I left not knowing what this was on my skin and whether I should be concerned. I have since found another similar suspicious possible skin cancer. I will go to a different doctor because Im honestly not sure if Dr Boyle diagnosed it? Im still not sure what happened during that appointment, everything happened so fast. Very odd.
Im really disappointed in Boyle Family Dermatology. I went in for an appointment on Sept 20th for a longitudinal red band on my thumb. Its been there for 10+ months and after seeing some reports on TV about these lines being linked to cancer, I wanted to get this checked out. Dr. Sheila spent all of 45 seconds with me in the examination area, talking more about not missing the humidity of the east coast more than my nail! Her diagnosis, it could be melanoma or a splinter. Lets wait 2 months and come back for a full body exam, Im sure there are things I can remove for you in the office. Plus, why biopsy this and risk ruining your beautiful nails! I was gobsmacked by her lackluster approach. Id like my life not my nails, Dr.!Ive since gone for a second opinion and was told this is in fact a rare and serious condition that is linked to several potential auto-immune diseases and cancer. My new doctor took several images and sent the pictures off to another specialist in CA. I was treated much better, and actually feel educated about my own body after meeting with this other doctor. What Dr. Shelia laughed off (quite literally) in her office is something I now know is serious and will be biopsied and treated correctly for.The front desk staff was rude, tried telling me I needed a referral (after telling me on the phone I did not), and I was over changed for my co-pay (refund still pending).Do not use this doctor. She doesnt spend time with her patients, comes across extremely flaky and rushed, and she fails to treat patients concerns.
I am giving two stars because the staff was wonderful and they were able to squeeze me in without an appointment and very accomodating. Other than that I was absolutely saddened by my visit. I came in with a breakout on my face that came out of no where, was given 5 minutes of the Drs time and told it might be Lupus, WHAT? She told me to get an expensive steroid cream and check in 3 weeks later. I was terrified and went to urgent care the next day to find out from a PA I had folliculitis + an infection and needed an antibiotic. I will never go back to this establishment.
I really like Monica Boyle. She takes her time, explains things and knows what shes talking about. She also knows what is hype and what is proven to work which I appreciate when speaking with a doctor in an industry where there are touted miracle cures.
Dr. Sheila Boyle is wonderful. I have always felt cared for by Dr. Boyle and her staff. Even the follow up months after my office visit is an indication of the caring nature of the Boyle Family Dermatology led by Dr. Sheila Boyle.
Ive seen Dr. Sheila Boyle for the last 6 years or so. At the initial appointment she diagnosed a carcinoma that was close to my eye and recommended a doctor who specialized in surgery, and the surgery was very successful. I was disappointed last year when I needed my annual checkup and saw the negative reviews, so I decided to try another dermatologist. I was disappointed in this new clinic where I didnt feel the doctor looked as closely at all my sun damaged areas, so Im going back to Dr Boyle to look at another spot that just showed up. I trust her!
I went there 10 years ago, I already found out I had shingles but, for whatever reason kept My appt. My baby daughter had a birthmark/mole on her leg. No concern of cancer, just showed it to her. She measured it. Then a few days later, called to ask for my daughters birthday, to bill insurance! This is insurance fraud.
I went to see Dr. Shelia Boyle of Boyle Family Dermatology early February of 2015. She took about 10 seconds, maybe less, to improperly diagnose my red, itchy lumps as bug bites. I won’t go into details about why I KNOW that was the wrong diagnosis, I’ll just say I live in an apartment on the 2nd floor where bugs are rarely seen. I noticed another red, itchy lump a couple days later and discovered it was actually hives. The cause of hives can rarely be determined. I called the office to talk to her and instead of receiving a call back from the doctor, the receptionist called me back to say that the doctor wanted to re-evaluate me for another co-pay, time away from work, and gas money to get there. I’d rather cut my losses and go to someone who actually cares about her patients and takes the time to properly diagnose the problem at hand.
My husband and I have been seeing Sheila Boyle for many years, although she never spends more than 5 minutes with us it has been an ok experience. This year I noticed the Sheila Boyle has gotten very greedy, for a less than 5 min visit we each received notice from the insurance that she had charged 160.00 a piece, I guess that would be legal but greedy. On top of that for the nanosecond it took her to burn two spots that I had to point out because she was not in the room long enough to have seen anything unless is was large and standing out, she additionally billed the insurance 136.00 stating surgical procedure. I call BULL on this one, it may be legal but it is extremely greedy. Maybe her practice is not doing as well so she is charging higher fees, or perhaps she feels above ethics and over charges the insurance companys, either way I see her now as less then ethical and extremely greedy. My husband and I will be looking for a different doctor.
Very expensive. Condition continues.I went to Dr. Boyle to have a wart removed from my finger. I was charged $250 for the first visit. Some dead skin was removed and a cryogenic (liquid nitrogen, I assume) was sprayed on the wart. Then I was told to use an over-the-counter (otc) cryogenic each day and come back in two weeks for a follow up.Two weeks later, the wart wasnt gone. A PA spritzed it again and told me to continue using the otc cryogenic and come back in 2 weeks. The doctor didnt see me at all. Time in room: roughly 5 minutes. Cost: $250.When I returned 2 weeks later, the wart wasnt gone. A PA spritzed it again. The doctor came in, glanced at it and told me to continue to use the otc cryogenic and return in two weeks. I asked how many times I was going to have to return and she said Until we tell you were done. Time in room: under 10 minutes. Cost: another $250.Two weeks later, the wart wasnt gone. A PA cut away some dead skin, spritzed it again and told me to start using an otc wart remover instead of the cryogenic and come back in 2 weeks. The doctor didnt see me at all. Time in room: roughly 5 minutes. Cost: another $250.Ive now been charged $1,000 by Dr. Boyle and still have the wart. At no time has my time in the examination room been more than 10 minutes and Ive been charged $250 for each visit even when the doctor didnt step into the room. I have been, however, diligently asked by the front desk each time Ive gone in whether Id like to pay off my account (Note: Ive paid all invoices sent to me on time so it isnt like Ive withheld any money).Regardless of her level of expertise, I leave it up to the reader if this is the kind of doctor youd like to visit. I stopped going because it became obvious she was only interested in billing me exorbitant amounts while accomplishing little to nothing.
Good doctors, terrible staff and business practices. My initial impression of Boyle Family Derm was very positive, but the follow up with staff and billing was enough to make me never return. I was seen by Kelly Finnegan (Sheilas PF-C) and she was quite good - professional, kind, listened to my concerns and had great recommendations for potential treatments. However, the follow up by the staff was the worst Ive ever experienced. First a lot of info is collected when booking an appointment online that doesnt get to the staff, so you spend a good deal of time answering questions and providing insurance details that were already communicated. In the grand scheme of things that is just an annoyance, what isnt acceptable is that the staff could not communicate with my insurance company as to what the treatments were and why they were needed - after speaking with my insurance company, all the treatments would be covered in full but they noted that the staff was incredibly vague and didnt seem to know what to tell the insurance company. Then the real shocker came in the mail; pre-negotiated coverage with insurance companies are billed to the patient - for example, I was billed full price for an office visit that was pre-negotiated with my insurance to be waived. In practice, this means that 1) youll be charged full price for items that your insurance company lists as covered, and 2) you cant use an HRA or HSA to pay the bill! I confirmed what happened with my insurance company and was told there wasnt anything they could do about it and while I shouldnt have been charged for it there was most likely verbiage in the releases stating that the company may do that (my insurer then recommended I take my business elsewhere).Bottom line, there are a lot of good dermatologists in the greater Denver area and its best to go somewhere other than Boyle.
I do not recommend Boyle Dermatology. I had a severe rash and for over a year, they gave me steroid cream and finally took a chunk of my skin off for a biopsy as they could not figure it out. They sliced off a skin sample in a very prominent place on my thigh promising there would be no scar, which was a lie. They also did this with the worst bed side manner I could imagine. I felt forced into this decision quickly and was never given a minute to think about it. When the biopsy came back as normal, they gave me more cream and said verbatim, Well, as we get older, our skin gets drier. That was there lame, uneducated answer. I still get angry just thinking about this lack of knowledge and professionalism. I was covered in a spotty rash.I called and asked for my records so I could get some insight from a naturopath and acupuncturist and Boyle dermatology tried to talk me out of seeking other help. I forced the issue and got the records sent. In 5 minutes, after a YEAR of getting no results from Boyle, the naturopath said, You have candida. Candida is an overgrowth of yeast. It was so bad it had come out in my skin. Dont you think if you specialize in skin you would understand that anything systemic that is going on in your body is going to come out in your largest organ, the skin?? I followed the diet and herbs recommended by my naturopath and after 4 months of having to kill the candida and clear it out of my body ( that actually was made worse from all the steroid cream Boyle gave me as I learned it pushed it deeper into my system), I have cured myself of candida and also learned how to manage it for the future. If I could I would give zero stars. The review app wont let me.Do not trust your health with this company. They are all cosmetic with no foundation of any true knowledge about skin. It never ever occurred to them to look past the surface of my skin, with the exception of freaking me out that it may be cancer.I am grateful to physicians out there who actually see past the surface and know how to heal from the inside out, not just focusing on the outside. My hope is the staff at Boyle will go back to school.
BEST DOCTORS OFFICE IN THE DENVER METRO AREA!!!!!!!!! They treat you like family, not just like another patient!!!! If I could post 10 stars I would!!!!!
Dr. Boyle caught the cancer early-I liked that. She runs an excellent office with time for patients even though she has a ton to work with.
They charged me over $300 for an appointment that lasted less than 10 minutes. Total scam
