A very caring bird rescue site. The birds are all healthy and well cared for. Strict about their adoption policy but not onerous and shows their concern about the birds. We adopted a macaw that is healthy and not neurotic or abused. Go here first. Very nice, donation driven sanctuary. We had a baby dove fall out of our tree nest and we brought it to them. They had a handful already so this dove will have plenty of good examples to learn how to fly from. Just a matter of time for this one to be out soaring back with its family. This place needs donations, so please give something (anything) if you can.

Just a small review to let people know that they dont take in fledgling sparrows. I know there are other reviews that state otherwise. However when I called and asked on Saturday June 5, 2021, the individual who answered stated that they dont take sparrows.Maybe they did accept them at the time, but that couldve changed. Either way always call and double check if they can help.I know that they are very helpful where they can beThey love birds and they answer the phone 24/7 🙂🙂

We found a fledgling golden finch this morning whose nest had blown out of a tall, deciduous tree. The yard is where dogs are all the time and the other side of the fence, a road with a walkway used often. I found a wild bird rescue that took the little sweet bird in. This is a picture of him with a little food on his beak the man just fed him. Hes going under a warm incubator. I love the cozy, knitted nest and basket provided him. The man runs this at his own home called Avian Sanctuary and Protection. Im in awe how special it is that he cares for the wounded and out-of-place birds. 💛 Donations would be well placed here.

Just rescued a pigeon in the middle of the intersection going onto the freeway trying to hop out of the way but couldnt. He had a big gash on his back and his head. We literally saw him almost get hit by the cars getting on the freeway. We called this rescue even though they were closed and he answered and told us to come over. Pretty incredible. When we got there, he looked the bird over, put some ointment on it and put him in an incubator. Turns out he was a baby 😢He said itll take a few weeks for the wound to heal but that he should make a full recovery. He was an amazing man with a clear passion and heart for birds. The owner (I assume owner) came in.. he was a bit stand offish but you could tell how much he loves those birds. He seemed genuinely pleased at the condition the birds were brought in.. THINK TWICE before taking a MOURNING DOVE or AN ORDINARY PIGEON here, or frankly any bird. According to the man running this place, state law prohibits the release of doves and pigeons back into the wild because they are not a native species to the United States. When I gently inquired further, he advised me (rudely) to look up the state law and recited some lengthy statute number. Keep in mind, these are ordinary pigeons and mourning doves. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?He told us that these pigeons and doves, ( up to 6 in a cage, roughly 18 x 24) are healthy but will remain in these cages until they are adopted, as they are considered non-native. WHAT???? I cant imagine theres much of a market for adopting mourning doves and ordinary pigeons, so these birds we are rescuing are doomed to a life crammed in a small, crowded cage. This man in charge is impersonal at best, teetering on aloof and rude. If he is truly a bird-lover, he is not doing this organization any favors with his demeanor. We decided NOT to leave our bird here, something about this place just doesnt sit right. I hope someone will take this on as a cause to investigate, and I CERTAINLY hope this isnt a grab for grant money........my antenna is UP on this one. Something is NOT RIGHT HERE.

We knew where a family of quail was living in the neighborhood, and as we approached to return the baby, we could hear mama calling for it. We did not recognize it as a quail, as it was so young. We called ASPC because we found 7 ducklings whose mother had been killed. It was after hours on a Sunday, I believe we spoke with Richard, and he didnt hesitate to let us bring the babies to him even though it was on his free time that we found them. He was extremely knowledgeable and kindhearted. I read through some reviews on here that people had left about him being short with them. I will admit he was a bit short with me when I called but by no means rude. When we took the birds to him you could see the kindness in his heart as he picked up those little babies and took them to where they could get warm. He is a quiet man, but as we filled out paperwork we watched him play with the birds, and talk to them as if they were people. It was sweet. I think the person who wrote that review needs to realize that some people relate better to animals than to other people. He is not mean or rude, hes quiet, until you see him talking with his birds or ask him about them, then he lights up. Lets be kind and realize that these people do this as a service and they arent making money off any of this. If you truly take issue with how the facility looks on the outside, then you can always donate to help them improve, otherwise a lot of the money is going to medical care and food, which are needs, needs come before wants. Im sure they would love a giant State of the art facility but those things cost money, so instead of sticking your nose up, why not donate to a good cause. Thank you for everything you guys do at ASPC.

Do NOT take any animals here at all what so ever. PLEASE. My friend and myself found a dove that was sick and injured and called the Avian Sanctuary and Protection to see if they would be able to help the bird. The person I spoke to was very rude and did not care to make conversation about what was actually wrong with the bird. Had no concern what so ever about the bird. Not only that I could barely hear him on the phone and when I asked him to repeat what he said he got very snappy with me. We did not dare leave that dove with them. This Sanctuary literally looked like a red neck crack house. I thought ok lets see whats going on dont judge a book by its cover....It got worse. There are birds stuffed in what looked like dog kennels, rows and rows of dog kennels on the side of the house in the heat. Layered over one another in each others filth. Mixed birds in a disgusting environment in the front yard with a ton of debris. NOT OK. The environment for these birds are inhumane. I called Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah and they have gotten complaints about this Sanctuary. They also told us that they have reported this Sanctuary numerous times and that what they are doing is ILLEGAL. I promise I will go above and beyond to do what I can to end this. I will write as many letters needed, make as many calls needed. I didnt want to go any further to see what else was going on. The environment felt like you were going to get shot for taking pictures. Again, please please dont take any animals here, broke my heart. If you think that this is a safe place to take wild life please think again. Go to this place and see for yourself and if you think that nothing is wrong with this picture, you have no heart.

My mom found an injured dove sitting on her front porch, called this facility and the gentleman that answered agreed to take the dove. This was at 5pm on a Saturday night (January 7th). To those who are being deterred by the looks of the facility I say do not judge a book by the cover! . It was dark by the time we arrived and the first thing we noticed were 3 very large (healthy looking) geese in the front yard, along with a huge running heater to keep them warm. We were lead to a shed that contained several large cages containing very healthy parrots and even a crow. One of the parrots was even talking to us! Again there was heaters and lights to keep them warm. He examined the dove and and found a laceration near the rear end (probably a cat attack) was also missing tail feathers, he explained he would treat her with antibiotics and with care the tail feathers should grow back and she can be released. Had my daughter and nephew with us (me and my mom) and my daughter took pics of the parrots (because we thought they were so awesome) and the owner had no problem with her taking pics. Once we finished with some brief paperwork, we were on our way out and commented on the awesome geese in the front yard, he took us into the front yard and said now watch this, he goes to a very large container of food and throws some out and all of the sudden here comes all these ducks that had been hiding under shelter (again not only is there a huge heater outside but also shelter for these beautiful animals). The ducks also very healthy, he even picked one up and let us pet her! Her name is Cookie. This man obviously takes this very seriously and is doing everything right to care for these birds, and trust me we are animal lovers and very critical if we think for any reason care of any animal is not proper. We gave a small donation, wished we would of had more cash on us and would of given more! He is putting on a bird show on March 11th. at Macys in the fashion place mall, which we plan to attend and will be making another donation. We were thrilled to find this facility and now know exactly where to go when we find a wounded bird. Thank you for caring : )
