Well known in the community for professionalism and service to support local adults, children and families in need of basic human services, i.e. food, clothes, mental health counseling, financial planning, education, employment transition services, holocaust survivor assistance. Proud to part of their exceptional staff as well as a grateful community member.
I am incredibly impressed with Jewish Family Services. Everyone I have met within this agency operates at the highest professional level while exuding compassion and care for everyone they work with.
JFS masquerades as a 5-Star provider/agency but provides 1-star clinical and prof. service; I was referred to JFS by my son’s PCP - he had a horrible experience with JFS.They will “sell” you on the premise they provide a complete continuum of care, with all their connected staff that work together, but that is far from the truth – they do not know how to manage care in an Accountable Care Organization model. If you want success for your children’s clinical behavioral needs, find yourself great PRIVATE provider, with 20-30yrs experience, who actually cares about great outcomes, and is not worried about just billable appts. I have worked in healthcare for most of my career, and this is the worst healthcare experience I have personally observed.Avoid Dr. Gurender Sahani AT ALL COSTS; he will prescribe medication to a first time patient (child), and then leave for vacation in India for ~2 weeks and leave you without an MD to contact in his absence when the medication is not working and/or causing issues. He left at the worst time for my son, when medication was required for success in a schooling environment. My son was stranded without any support from his office (India is only a phone call away - this is 2017). His bedside manner and communication is terrible; he will say things like “This appt is only 30mins; I can only see the patient and type my notes in 30mins” – meaning he did not have time to fully discuss behavior strategies, and he clearly told me this – nor did he want to communicate with my son’s school. He only cares about how many patients he can see and write RXs for in the makeshift “office” that he shares and RENTs from JFS. Don’t be confused, he is seeing patients as a contracted DR all over CT (New Britain, Torrington, HTFD, Plainville – google him!!) not just JFS in Bloomfield – he is only concerned with making $ and his time. We all know that you cannot be spread so thin and provide quality work; it is just not possible in the area of hands-on clinical care.I escalated all these concerns to Ms. Anne Danaher (Executive Director at JFS), but received little support, just an empty email reply that she would help find a solution. I ultimately had to move med admin to my son’s PCP.Avoid Ms. Kim Whittham as well; she is very friendly and kind, but she over commits and under delivers. Although she had a leave of absence, her transition and return to work availability impacted my son’s care – neither she nor her mgt made a firm effort to make my son’s care a priority. They did not establish a firm carry-over provider for the duration she was gone (2.5 months); they had someone in mind, who only saw my son when I escalated about them not contacting me, but it was just a Band-Aid approach. When Kim returned from leave, you would expect that JFS would have jumped through hoops to make my son’s care a priority (post the Dr. Sahani experience), but instead, Kim hid behind poor email communication, and canceled my son’s follow-up appointment with her because of her own misunderstanding. Again, she is a kind person, but needs to improve her comm and expectations with patients. The worst part about the experience with her, was that in her discharge letter, she listed a previous external provider my son already experienced as someone to follow-up with, even though she was told early on that this provider could not meet my son’s needs based on my son’s experience with that provider – receiving that letter reinforced what I already learned about JFS, which is they drop the ball every time.I escalated to Janice Rothstein (Dir. Clinical Services) about all this and while she was kind in hearing me out – it appears she has almost no power of her resources to make things work – she just said “I’m so sorry this is happening, and I’ll get back to you with a solution” – unfortunately, she never did.I ultimately found a great private provider who has good open comm with me and provides scheduling outside of my son’s schooling hrs.
Quality high standard agency which has been providing us with vital services for close to a century. They are accredited and aim to set high standards for themselves. Several of my clients who I work with now have come to Jewish Family seervice to find hope when they are lost. I cant say to much because of the HIPPA law thing. Just know however that every single one of the therapsists there is truly kind and caring. They want to make a very positive differences in each of the lives they serve. Ive encountered some therapists in my past while doing this work who werent very good. But Jewish Families Services therapists are very, VERY good at what they do. I cant say enough positive things about this agency and just with there was another sixth star option to give to them. Their agency is located in a very safe part of Bloomfield but they have a few other additional offices addresses outside their main site. For anybody looking for the creme de la creme of best therapy service for clients of any age, come check out JFS! Every body there truly cares and has a BIG wonderful heart!!
JFS has been a wonderful place to volunteer and also has assisted my family in times of need. The staff is warm and welcoming, but also completely professional and confidential. Anne Danaher, Joan Margolis, Patti Weiner and the entire team at JFS make this community a better place and I am so grateful for all they do.
Professional facility. Front desk staff always friendly.
Professional, courteous kind, and very helpful, A+++
