Awesome place to take the kids. They are super patient with the little ones and they do an awesome job. I brought my 4yr and my 12yr old here and they loved it. My 12yr old played video games and my 4yr old watched a movie while they had their hair cut. It helped keep them still and entertained. They offer so much stuff aside from haircuts as well. Definitely check it out.

So far I love this place. Im amazed at how well they can do a short fade on a 1 year old (He will be two in December) such patience!

This was my second time taking my daughter here. All of the staff are fantastic. The hairdresser we had Ashley was very comforting to my 3yr old and worked well with her to make sure she was comfortable. I showed her a picture of what I wanted a time and she nailed it. She definitely went above and beyond.

This was the absolute worse haircut my child could’ve received. I wanted my sons first haircut to include a rat tail he had really long baby hair perfect for this. I asked the stylist could she do it and she assured me she had done it before. He sat very still and was great. She on the other hand not great. She ruined the tail beyond saving. I was very very sad. In the end we ended up at a different salon to get his hair fixed

Twice now Ive brought my son in for a trim and they went to short. This time was the same day as our family pictures. If you go here dont leave your kids side to make sure they are doing what you want. And to be clear my sons hair didnt look terrible it was just shorter than we wanted it.

Great place for kids to get a haircut. You just never know what kind of quality cut youre going to get. Sometimes its great, other times not so great.

I was very nervous to have my 17-month-old son get his first haircut. Shear Madness in West Des Moines did a great job! He loved the fun chair. He started to cry during the haircut, but the stylists are very patient and were able to get him to calm down. In the end, he got a great haircut. We did the first hair cut package and the photos were really fun. The value for the price is great.

Shear Madness was a nice place to bring children for haircuts pre-covid. Now IN covid they managed to get better :) They still offer fun seats for children to drive and cartoons for children to watch during haircuts. Kind and patient as always, managing to give a good haircut while kids wiggle and dodge. Now in the pandemic they seem to be hitting all the marks. When we arrived for our appointment we called to let them know. When everything was cleaned, Shear Madness called to let us know to come inside. Masks were in place for adults and children of the appropriate age. Social distancing was in place. Shear Madness seemed to do a great job of keeping track of what was touched. I noticed as I was checking out that they were immediately cleaning everything touched. They still managed to do this while providing a fun environment for a childs haircut.

Uneven cut. Stylist barely interacted with 3yr old. It was first haircut, unfortunate because kid was so proud and excited to go to salon.

We had such a great experience here!!! Our son doesnt often sit still for long periods of time so we were a little nervous. But between the car, the tv, and especially the hair dresser talking to him we got a PERFECT haircut!! It was so smooth and a lot quicker than I expected. The hair dresser was SO friendly and loved socializing with my 3 year old. Thank you!

What a great place. Children and adults love this place. Children have the opportunity to sit in plastic vehicle chairs while getting their haircut.The stylists each have televisions at their stations with popular and good natured cartoons for children to focus on.Each stylist seemed to be great with the wiggling worm children. Every trip to Shear Madness has been great and we were able to leave with amazing, no pressure results and children who left happy.The lobby is straight toy displays for kids to pick through to purchase after the haircut/before. Appointments preferred.Con: No vacuums are offered.The only thing missing is a wine bar.Prepare to spend more than your value haircut chains, but any parent would agree it is worth every penny.

Used to be 4 stars, now a 0 if I could. If there is nobody getting their hair cut and there are 3 stylists working ... maybe a quick 10 min haircut could be done? Instead I was told other people were coming in and that I would need to schedule. Ive never had to do this in the 4 yrs I have been bringing my kids here. I sat in the parking lot for 10 min. Finally 2 children showed up. So with my son it would have been 3 children, 3 stylists . They could have easily accommaccommodated us, no excuses. Lost a faithful customer. 0 stars.

Took my son in for his first haircut, a couple weeks ago. I was really excited for the experience. The experience was okay. The haircut itself is not worth the money. I look at his hair and keep telling myself it will grow back. The guy that cut his hair literally just started grabbing random pieces and cutting. And then got the clippers out and didn’t ask my husband or I to hold him or anything. My son is 1. One side is completely way above his ear and the other side is perfect. The stylist said to us, “look good” my husband said, “his hair? Can you even it out?” We were then told if we wanted it evened out we would have to hold his hands. okay. No problem. I’ve heard baby hair grows in choppy. Not my sons. All in all, if your going in for a first hair cut I would suggest if your baby doesn’t have that much hair. If your baby is like my son and has long hair, I wouldn’t suggest.

They do a great job! My son loves getting his hair cut! We always get compliments on how cute his big boy hair cut is. The manager is very sweet and she is awesome. They are all awsome with the kids. Love this place. My son is 19 months and we have been bringing him since he turned one.

The first time I brought my son here the woman who cut his hair was fantastic!! Not only was she so amazing with him but his hair cut was just as amazing!! Now today was our second time here the guy who cut his hair was pretty good with my son too but his hair cut was not even close to what I showed him I wanted. He went so fast I didnt even have time to say hey youre cutting his hair too short or that his hair was uneven! Paying what you charge for a childs haircut I expect perfection every time! If I wanted my child to have a bad haircut I could have payed 10$ for the same hair cut. I expect more if Im going to pay more. Other than that this place is awesome!! Its perfect to take your kid cause its so entertaining. I wont let one bad experience keep me from here. Well be back. Just will ask for a specific person next time.

Its worth the money! The gentleman who cut my sons hair had him cut and styled (nicely) in under 5 minutes. The only thing I didnt like was the toys at the front. Of course I took my child out kicking and screaming because he wanted a new toy.

Seems like it’s more for younger children, under 10. We didn’t go since my daughter just turned 13.

These ladies always do fantastic work with my sensory kiddo! We have never taken him anywhere else and have never had any issues here!

The people at the West Des Moines Shear Madness are wonderful. They did a fantastic job helping my child get through his hair cut. He is special needs and they were so kind, patience and helpful. I am so happy that I found a place I can take him. They have lots of wonderful things for children and will strongly recommend them to anybody. Thank you for doing such a great job! A+++

Fun and great haircuts

Awesome place for children cuts. Kids have their choice of cars or similar objects to sit in for their cuts. Staff are accustomed to working with children and have the patience of saints. There is a gift shop at the front of the store which traps you into buying more objects that will eventually liter your floor. Haircuts are reasonably priced at around $18.00

A salon that specializes in children. Its a good idea and a nice store. Unfortunately they cant cut hair. I have a two year old daughter and we have gone twice. The first time I was unimpressed, basically a bowl cut, but she sat still and seemed to like the place. I dont expect high fashion but a bit of style would have been nice. The second time they totally mangled it. Cut some areas, didnt touch others. Single cut across the bangs not even straight. We even told them we were getting a family portrait taken and they didnt even dry it so we could tell how bad it was. She sat fine but they were done in 2 min. Didnt even try. I cleaned it up my self when we got home. You get what you pay for, $15 for toys scattered around, $0 for hair cut.

Apparently, if you dont pay the extra $10, the stylist hands you the loose hair out of the comb for you to try to get it into a ponytail by yourself on the back if the plastic car. Really disappointed. Have been calling all morning. Clerk says they do not issue refunds, regardless situation. They have verbally threatened me for calling.

I didnt like the hair cut, the hair dresser was asking all the time if it was ok when it is supposed she is the professional and I had showed a photo of past haircut. It was an uncomfortable situation. Maybe she was new, but they need to be trained before.

My four year old daughter is Autistic. We got Lane for her first hair cut several months back and come back to him every time. He is amazingly patient and kind. He not only will work with her but will make sure her hair is even and the cut looks great.

They didn’t listen to anything I said. I tried going here twice. The first time they barely trimmed his hair.. came back for another tried, told them I would like it cut shorter but still a little messy on top. When told to go short she barley took anything off the top and pretty much said “Alright were all done” I’m sorry, my toddler had trouble cooperating at first but ended up doing great and it seemed they were just in a hurry to get him done and out the door. Terrible experience both times.

We took our son there for his first haircut at 13 months old. Very fun experience and the stylist was great with him. Have been back once and got the same stylist. His name is Lane (sorry if I spelled it wrong) but I highly recommend him. Hes great and is patient. We are going to him get his third haircut this weekend and although Im willing to see another stylist, I hope Lane is there because he is so great with my son. :)

Sidney cut my 2 year old daughters hair today. It was her very first haircut and really does not like people messing with her hair. So, of course, my daughter screamed the entire time. Sidney did an amazing job!! I was terrified the entire drive there and honestly it went just as a I thought. The place is wonderful and Sidney definitely earned the 50%+ tip I left because she never let how my daughter was behaving affect her. Thank you so MUCH!!

I was really impressed with these guys. This was my first time there and I expected it to be like a typical salon lobby, but instead they had all kinds of toys she bows for sale. Some of the toys were stuffed animals, balls, Malissa and Doug items, etc. Even though we didnt have an appt, we didnt have to wait long. They staff was VERY friendly and accommodating. I plan to go back for more.

Took my 18 month old there today for the first time, and had a PERFECT experience. Lane took his time was so friendly towards my little man. He cut his hair great to! We will coming back!

This is the only haircut place that I will take my children. They are very patient and understanding. My boys love to watch Paw Patrol and get a sucker and a bracelet.

Took my son here for thecfirst haircut package, the environment was neat, but I could have probably cut his hair better. He was not moving around at all, and it looks awful. For the price u pay, I just expected a decent cut.

Great place to cut hair and to pierce ear for kids. The staffs are really cheerful, soft and they know how to deal with the kids. Recommended.

My son doesnt like people messing with his hair. He is screaming, crying etc..but it was our first time here and they really did a great job! He even smiled after that (!)Everyone was friendly and the place is wonderful especially for the toodlers like my :)Thanks!

They always do a pretty good job with my sons hair. Hes autistic and theyre very understanding and accommodating. My only problem is, were in there every two months and have been eight times now and they never remember us.

Loved how friendly the receptionist was, the atmospherewas amazing. My daughter normally doesnt like people messing with her hair but she held still the whole time. She was able to sit and watch Mickey mouse while they worked on it.

This is the second time I have visited this facility. Layne (sp?) Cut my sons hair the best of all who have attemped. My boy had a weird spot where it turns in several directions and he navigated that with ease.

I took my 3 year old grandson in for a haircut. He picked a airplane seat to sit in, and his stylist friendly and patient with him. He came out of Shear Madness happy, even more handsome

Shear Madness was a wonderful experience! Usually I struggle getting my son to get his haircut, but wow, I was very impressed. He sat in the firetruck chair and watched Cars. He was squirming around trying to avoid the haircut but he let the stylest finish which never happened and the stylist we had was very patient with him! We will be returning!

Horrible first experience. The stylist that cut my nephews hair was rough and ended up cutting his left ear. He told her it hurt and she replied, oh youll be fine. His ear was bleeding. Disappointing when this salon caters to children. Not coming back.

Hair cut was decent.. not perfect but my kid was wiggly and didnt want the guy near him. Lots of hair on floor and chairs which resulted in my son getting head lice. We will not be returing.

Had a really great experience with my sons first haircut at age 2,the lady was very helpful,and very patience with my sons tantrums.appreciate everything she did.

Walked in with no one there and staff was standing around. Was told we were unable to get a haircut because we didn’t have an appointment. I understand appointments, but there was no one in the building or parking lot. There was staff just standing around and couldn’t take 10 min to give a little boy a haircut. Staff was very rude and snotty and we will not be returning.
