We did a large kitchen/1st floor renovation and had nothing but a great experience with Josh and his team. After hearing horror stories from friends, we expected to hate our contractor at the end but that couldnt be farther from our outcome. Distinctive Carpentry has completed two renovations in our home. Josh and his team completely remodeled our upstairs with a full shed dormer to create two bedrooms and a master bedroom and they transformed our galley kitchen into an open concept kitchen/family room that is amazing! We hired Josh Nelson and his crew of subcontractors to tear down and completely remodel our master bathroom. He was referred to us by a close friend and we are thrilled! My family moved to the West Chest Area and my wife wanted a new front portico and door installed. This caused us much anxiety as we have heard horror stories about contractors. Many people told us that contractors never call you back and take forever to complete the project. I found Distinctive Carpentry on-line, and e-mailed them and within an hour Stefanie contacted me. She was so pleasant to speak with and was very accommodating to schedule a time for Josh (owner) to come out and provide us an estimate. Josh showed up on time for the appointment and provided a detailed estimate within two days. More importantly was the craftsmanship, Troy was very detailed and sensitive to the neighbors in the area as he did not start too early. The job site was cleaned every evening, and my wife heard no foul language or inappropriate behavior. Yes, Josh the owner stopped by every day to check in with my wife to ensure we were happy with the progress. He made an appointment to review the job with us when it was completed, we walked the job and looked at every detail together to ensure we were happy. We are happy to say that we have a carpenter for life!!!

Josh and his team gutted my 70s bathroom and rebuilt a beautiful new bathroom in its place. Then, the icing on the cake, he built a new laundry room connected to the bathroom, so that I no longer have to go to the basement to do laundry. He did a great job! He said he would take a month to complete the projects and he did! To the day! Hard to find that degree of service nowadays! He gets my 5 star backing!

We had the pleasure of contracting with Josh Nelson for the major renovation/addition to our Wayne, PA home. Our project involved excavation for a bump out to the back of our house (family room and very large mudroom), adding an in-law suite over our garage and an elevator for elderly parents.  We had a plethora of builders from which to choose as we both work in the housing industry.  But after meeting with several of said builders, we were most impressed with Joshs integrity and the meticulous detail of the bid he presented to us and his look-you-in-the-eye honesty. His detailed bid was specific and very thorough, much more so than other builders who left finishes, length of the project, and subcontractor questions vaguely answered or not answered at all.From the day we started the project, he took every call we made and either he or his Project Manager, Scott, answered any question about the process, the timing, the scheduling, the work being done.  It was very comforting to work with such an honest group of men. It was truly a remarkable experience. Josh met us several times on the property when big decisions had to be made.  He carefully explained the options and made adept, knowledgeable recommendations but left the final decision up to us.  Scott attended every meeting and was on the job site daily.  Scott is an excellent communicator and let us know what was ahead and when we needed to decide on the tile, the trim, the knobs, the granite, the cabinetry, paint colors, carpet choices, etc.  It was an awesome experience to see the extensive flow chart that is needed to allow the project to come together in an efficient, and on-budget, on-time, manner.  The scope of a project like ours can also be a most daunting experience.  We trusted our builder and sure enough, he kept true to his word.  Most impressive is that Josh manages his subs, holds them accountable, is not intimidated by them and Keeps. Everyone. On. Schedule.  He does not allow them to delay.We had heavy, heavy rains during our project which was a threat as a possible major slow down of the build, but under Josh’s direction, and Scott’s management, the project forged ahead despite mean Mother Nature. Another miracle that occurred was during the full month of rain with the construction not yet under roof, the completed renovation was still delivered ON TIME.  This matters when you have moved out of your house and are in a short term rental and your lease expires!Our home was also secured at the end of each day - Scott saw to it personally.  The work site was kept clean at all times.  It is highly unusual to have seen the degree of clean up done at the end of each day. All areas were broom swept, there was no trash cluttering indoor or outdoor space and equipment was stored neatly and safely. Surely a sign of workers with great dignity and pride.Josh and his team followed through on every single item that we tweaked during the process that may have varied from our original plan. Scott tirelessly sent an email at the end of every day stating what work had been done that day.The finished product is of extreme quality work.  The finishes were carefully done from gleaming wood floors to doors that are hung perfectly, trim work masterfully cut, paint done cleanly and windows in tight.  Corners are not cut.  It is the work of true craftsmen every step of the way in every detail of the job.Our project was flawlessly completed on time!  We have received so many compliments from neighbors and strangers alike.  It was our pleasure to have chosen Josh and his crew.DC is custom builders without the custom prices.  I cannot offer a higher recommendation than Distinctive Carpentry if you want a beautiful and well-done renovation/addition that will last.It has been a joy to work with such honorable men.

Distinctive Carpentry by Josh Nelson, LLC, has completed two major renovation projects in our home. Five years ago we decided to update the kitchen and other rooms in the back of our first floor. I still sit in my family room at times and look out into my kitchen and just smile at how happy I am with the results of a great companys hard work.
