My daughter is in the best program of the last 30 years. ACAP is truly a Jewel of South Eastern Wisconsin.Weve had our daughter in a number of good programs over the years but this is truly incomparable.
ACAP is a great organization. I was introduced to it a few years ago and have had an amazing experience. The staff are all very friendly. Be sure to visit their location Artlinks at 333 Main Street where you can view some artwork in the display windows done by the members.
The best program and place for my daughter. She has thrived. Love the staff!
Adaptive Community Approach Program (ACAP) Waukesha has been a part of my life for almost 30 years. I am now on the board of this amazing organization. It is my pleasure to be served in this way by this movement working through the lives of over 90 adults with disabilities. My family and I devote our lives in sharing this adaptive community approach. We have had just a remarkable amount of joy being a part of the story. The thousand people in this ACAP tribe are my favorite people. I look forward to an even more abundant future thanks to the passion that exists in the place and across this institution of love.
If you are planning on getting a job at some point this is not for you. I went here for about 2 years they loved me I was fully involved and went out of my way to help. The one time I didnt attend a play I got told thanks for supporting you organization Desi. I really started backing off of stuff. As soon as I started talking about getting a job and moving on from ACAP mind you they preach advocacy and being in charge of your life. I started getting told that you have no business having a job. Then I really started too cut my days and one morning I was sick and the director at the time called me and asked me to come in and talk so I did. and I proceeded to get told that if i got a job on my own i wouldnt last and last only 1 month jokes on them was there 2 years a 7 months quit for personal medical reasons. Then I was told they are not there to deal with my mental issues. so at that point walked away to never return. then a staff member showed up at my house saying to come back. then said the normal you dont belong working and that Im closing the door on advocacy. again jokes on them since I left I held a job!, took partners in policy making! and proud member on the board for people with developmental disabilities. I been in my own appartment for 5 years. Its 60 bucks a day to attend. thats the cost of living for a month. Im putting this out there and NOT deleting it this time. I have a right to have my opinion and let people know what this is all about. You cant sit there and emotionally mess with people and expect nothing to happen. Then after this I was at the self determination conference and was bullied by staff of ACAP. For leaving a review intern took down. so Im not taking this down. THIS EXPERIENCE HAS EFFECTED ME FOR YEARS!
Our son has been attending ACAP for almost 2 years. ACAP is different from other day programs. The members have so many things to choose from to meet their individual needs. Our son looks forward to attending and has done so many activities he would never have had the opportunity to do with his peers. They take members out into the community to volunteer, be active and have fun. He goes rock climbing, is learning TaeKwonDo, volunteers for a food pantry, learns to utilize public transportation, does geocaching, goes swimming, works out at a gym, bowls, and so much more! The staff are what really makes ACAP special. They are dedicated, caring and work very hard to make this a unique program. ACAP makes him feel useful, appreciated and loved. When I first toured other day programs, it seemed they were just a way to fill the time of people with disabilities and special needs. ACAP has exceeded our expectations by giving our son positive interactions, feelings of value and worth, physical and mental stimulation and a whole lot of fun.
My daughter tried this facility. After being denied access to a class which I felt was discrimination, she wont be coming back. Some aspects of the program were fine and some staff was wonderful but others I felt were very rude to other clients. Clients pay to be at this facility, it isnt a paying job for clients. This program is fine for some clients but they get a bad rating for the observations I saw and they claim they are adaptive but really arent.
Wonderful programs, wonderful staff, they go over and above....... only wish I could give it more stars!!! Thank you for everything you do!!
My 25 year old daughter, Lauren, has been a member of ACAP since June of 2015.She absolutely loves ACAP with all the various activities she participates in from Meals on Wheels to rock climbing to working with and seeing horses. The in house activities keep her very very happy. She interacts with the community as the name suggests. All of the Staff treat her very well. Looking forward to Laurens continuing association with ACAP!!
They provide fun and enriching activities for people with mental and developmental disabilities. I have friends who attend there, and am meeting more of them.
Looking forward to helping out.
