Both of my children used College Coach to help guide them through the college application process. My very independent-minded son and daughter each found the right advisor that suited their personalities best. These awesome coaches helped them to decide which colleges were best suited to them and kept them focused on their applications in a timely manner. As a parent, I wanted my kids to make their own decisions and recused myself from much of the process. The whole process was less stressful for me and them. I did receive progress reports and the kids seemed to enjoy having true agency over the whole process. Both were accepted early decision to the colleges of their choice (UChicago and Brown). I would like to express a special thanks to Sara Calvert-Kubrom. She worked with my daughter after her original coach had a medical issue. My daughter liked her so much, she decided to keep Sara when her original coach returned.

We hired college coach when our son was ending his 10th grade with some hesitation. They are a large counseling outfit and dont have a local office where we live. There were lots of coaches to pick from and we were wondering how much personal attention our kid would get, that he would become just another number among 100s of students they counsel. Our son wanted to go to business school and Univ. Texas was his dream school. We chose Amy Alexander at College Coach since her experience seemed most aligned. We interviewed a couple of families that hired Amy with good results. Amy was persistent in pushing our son to spend his summers productively, in guiding him on what clubs he should focus on, what his super powers are, and suggested 3 categories of colleges to pick from: dream, good-fit, slam-dunk. We picked the package where you still have to be engaged as a parent (after all its our kid !), so Amy would make suggestions on colleges, we would research them and discuss and tweak them with Amy.Amys biggest contribution was in helping our son write his college essay, which I truly believe was what made him stand out and be admitted to Austins business school. She went through multiple reviews with my son, challenging him to articulate his passion in music into his essay. Your kid could take all the AP courses and get a great SAT score, but if they dont show genuine passion for what they really care about (besides academics !) or went through, in the essay, top colleges have a knack for filtering that out. It was when our son complained I want you to fire Amy because she is never satisfied with my essay is when we got to really appreciate her persistence and perseverance ! In the end, the essay was brilliant and truly reflected my sons passion in music.It all turned out well and worth every penny, not for the quantity but the quality of help your kid gets. Takeaway: College coach is great, but you shouldnt hire them and go into auto-pilot mode. Your kid is more likely to succeed if the parent, the kid and the counsellor eventually become aligned, and thats much harder than hiring a great counsellor !

Working with Elyse Krantz at College Coach was a wonderful experience. Her knowledge of the process, attention to detail, accessibility, and dedication are exemplary. Elyse was fully invested from the start and quickly realized that our son was capable of much more than his initial writing indicated. By patiently discussing his ideas and helping him develop his thoughts, he was able to prepare a personal statement and multiple essays that accurately revealed his true self. In the end, our son was admitted to his top choice school. Elyse was a true partner throughout the entire process and the help she provided our son exceeded all expectations!!

AMAZING! I highly recommend Emily and the entire College Coach team. I have been working with Emily one-on-one for over a year now for my undergraduate transfer admission and she has been absolutely perfect. She was consistently professional, organized, understanding and helpful throughout the entire process. When I first contacted College Coach, Mollie was incredibly helpful in pairing me with an advisor that would best suit my objectives and my schedule. At our first meeting Emily and I carefully covered my transfer goals and discussed my academic strengths and weakness. I greatly appreciated her transparency and opinions as to what we most needed to work on the most. We began straight away with the research process. We generated a long list of universities that coincided with my interests and goals. There were so many programs that I was unaware that I quickly discovered would be a perfect fit for me. Ian is easy to work with, knowledgeable about the college process and does a really nice job providing essay comments that go deeper than most counselors in terms of being able to support my son in crafting content that is focused and relevant but entirely authentic. Ian is patient with multiple rounds of work on the college list and understands the teenage brain. I know Ian wanted the best outcomes for my son and was both willing and able to be realistic but positive and encouraging along the way.

Coach Lauren Randle has been an essential member of our sons college planning process. She is professional, resourceful, and very helpful. Her personalized attention is outstanding. He guided our Senior through the process of narrowing college choices and writing essays with firm, but kind mastery, including us in the process, but also ensuring that our young adult was making involved decisions. College Coachs Christine Kenyon was fabulous. Her support throughout Oliver’s college admission process was timely and always on point. She was an excellent navigator, cheerleader, and structure enforcer all the while maintaining a a warm and congenial relationship with our teen. She made Oliver’s junior/early senior year a great deal more relaxed and pleasant for our entire family than it otherwise might have been.

Extremely pleased with College Coach. Great customer service and answered all my questions when we were considering hiring them, spot-on advice on choosing a coach, wonderful coach who handled the whole process and our sons strengths and weaknesses beautifully. From getting to know him, to crafting the college list and honing it down, applications and essays and timelines, visits and interviews, deciding early action vs. regular decision - the entire process was handled beautifully. Never had any issues reaching or meeting with our coach. We began one year ago (April of Junior year). Since we homeschool, our coach also helped me tremendously with all I had to do as the guidance counselor. I have two kids, 14 months apart. We hired College Coach for the full ride, the whole four years of high school, both kids. They gave us indispensable service for the whole 4 years of each kid: from which APs to take, what was too big a load of APs, cooling our anxieties and giving the best advice at each curve in the road. My son was in THE most competitive environment for applying out (NYCs best high school) to Ivies and MIT, et al: i.e. his high school seemingly had a cap for numbers of accepted students because the whole student body was so talented. College Coach, as I say, guided and nurtured every step of the way. When it came time to the applications, writing essays, and interview prep, College Coach actually switched us to another person, and this was an awesome Coach in the extreme. I wont mention her name, but I think everyone at this company cares, pays great attention to detail, and helps in every way. Ive referred at least three other kids/parents to the company, and as Ive been saying privately (now publicly), I think College Coach is one of the best companies Ive ever encountered, both privately and professionally, in my adult life here in Manhattan. Im a theatre producer, my wife is a designer, and believe me, between the two of us, this company shepherded us (and our kids) WELL.
