I had been a consistent, every 8 week donor for many years. I am O-neg and CMV-neg, which means my blood is good for infants. My last donation was 05/27/2020. I signed up to donate that day at the Waterloo Center and online as soon as I arrived home for 8 weeks from then and the first time slot of the day as I always do. A week before my donation date I received an email saying my appt. was canceled.I called the national Red Cross number to find out why. I was told there was a double booking. How could that be since I signed up 7 weeks ago? The representative said the same time slot 2 weeks after my original appt. was available so I scheduled that.The Saturday before my rescheduled appt. I received an email asking me to confirm I would be there so I did. I thought it strange that the morning of my appt. I didnt receive the FastPass email.When I arrived at the center I was asked my name and if I had an appt. I answered and was told (paraphrasing) You were on the list earlier but youve been scratched off. I was able to see the schedule sheet and it was literally scratched off. I asked why and he couldnt give me an answer. I was very upset and flipped my donor card on the desk and said Im done. and walked out without an apology or explanation.I emailed national and got an apology but no explanation.I had always enjoyed donating and talking to the staff. I dont think Im important but I do think my donation is very important considering its O-neg and CMV-neg. I still would like an explanation why I was canceled twice!
Quick and easy. My appt was at 11:30 and I was done by noon. Friendly staff!
Giving one star because there is no zero star option. Had a 3pm appointment, an was locked out. When knocked, a technician said that they already packed up for the day. Called the Red Cross hotline, and was informed that they were still supposed to be open.Dont believe the hype that they are in such critical need for your specific blood type when they close their donation center down early and turn pre-scheduled appointments away at the door.
