I studied several arts here for many years - I still train and only stopped at this location due to geography. The owner Ron, and the other instructors here are all immensely skilled, dedicated and are welcoming and genuine people. The arts taught are unique, hard to find and very effective. Yes, the atmosphere is relaxed and jovial but the training is taken VERY seriously. I have been in the arts for 15 years and I highly recommend this school.

Ron is a true master of martial arts. One of the few Ive ever met. You cant go wrong with him.

The Practical Self Defence Center is like a martial art university. There are so many great classes to choose from with experienced instructors. Personally, I take Kuntao, which is great for self defense. It is taught like a science. Ron Kosakowski does a great job teaching it. He makes it so fun while learning. I definitely recommend this school!

First rate instruction! Have been a member for over 14 years now doing Kun Tao and Kali. The Kun Tao is unlike anything youre likely to encounter anywhere else and the teaching methods are fantastic. Have also attended JKD, Wing Chung, and grappling seminars and the instructors are among the best Ive seen.

Hands down the best martial arts university in the state. Dont believe any of these 1 star reviews. If you want to study real JKD, Kali, Kuntao, Wing Chun, and fight conditioning this place has the areas best instructors. Their grappling and mma fighters are constantly bringing home victories and trophies. Real deal, no nonsense training, in a friendly and welcoming environment.

Kuntao Kali Jeet Kune Do Muay Thai and Integrated Grappling Systems are all taught historically accurate which still holds up for modern day self defence or MMA situations. There is no other school like it in CT. There is a lot of years of martial arts experiece at the Practical Self Defense Training Center going back to the late 60s. Its not easy to find more martial art experience.

He is Rude, Make unnecessary offensive jokes- I agree with the comment below saying he may be a good teacher but HE IS NOT A GOOD PERSON OR EXAMPLE FOR OUR KIDS. HE WAS RECEIVING PAYMENTS ON CASH FOR THE LESSONS AND NEVER REPORTED THEM TO THE ACCOUNT- WE RECEIVED A BILL FOR MORE THAN 400$ CALLED THE PLACE AND THEY TOLD US THE OWNER OF THE PLACE NEVER REPORTED THE PAYMENTS HE RECEIVED ON CASH- NEVER SIGN ANYTHING WITHOUT READ HE WILL PUT YOU ON A 12 MONTHS CONTRACT AND RENEW WITHOUT YOUR CONCERN// NEVER GIVE ANY TYPE OF CASH TO THIS GUY RON. I SEE HE IS GIVING HIMSELF SOME GOOD REVIEWS ON HERE :)

I think all of you should know what kind of person runs this place. He bashes people online! Makes threats and trys to ruin peoples lives. He maybe a good Personal defense instructor but he is not a good person! He should not be teaching kids. I hope they dont grow up to be like him.
