This place is like Narnia for everything you need for your home! I don’t know how they fit their extensive inventory so perfectly in such a small place, but it’s like magic. I have yet to go in and not be able to find what I need. The staff are always super friendly and welcoming. Such a great local business - who needs Amazon when you have everything you need down the street at True Value?!

This is my SPOT! I used to run around all over town trying to find different odds and ends offered at specific stores. Then I stumbled on True Value on 17th which seems to have everything I could ever need and quickly became my one stop shop. Feels like Im in this store just about every weekend. I was treated like family (with great customer service) on day one and that continues to be the same experience with every visit since. Have actually come to enjoy seeing the same people on every visit and catching up. The staff is not only friendly and conversational, but also very knowledgeable. These folks have advised me on mounting curtains, replacing a bathroom sink, removing graffiti, patching a hole in the wall, painting, plant care and countless other household projects/hobbies. I could go on and on raving but Ill stop there. Youll have to stop in and experience it for yourself!

This place is great! Its nice to have a hardware store nearby, but this store offers so much more! The have a nursery, which doesnt surprise me, kitchen ware, cleaning supplies, and so much more. On top of that, theyre all really friendly.

A gem, a bigger on the inside gem with everything... if you cant find it ask, someone will take you around the corner down a hallway round another corner and they have a wall of it. So much better and more personable than Lowes or Home Depot. Friendly nice people who are proud to show you exactly where to find it and are a real pleasure to work with. Prices are surprisingly reasonable. They may even have more than Lowes not in to the tall emptiness with no help sense or run over in the parking lot by arrongance sense but the carefully large variety for city dwellers.

Good hardware and variety store, including housewares. You can get keys made there too. And they have stuff for plants.

These people are so helpful and kind. I found everything that I needed. When I bought the wrong thing and needed to return it, they made sure I walked out with what I needed. Their prices are really good, their inventory is excellent. Dont forget that there are three sections: 1. Home goods (kitchen stuff, cleaning stuff, office stuff etc.. 2. Paint, and 3. Hardware. Theyll have what you need.

Whoever does the hiring for this place deserves an award because I have yet to have an experience where I didn’t leave smiling. The entire team there is extremely friendly and so helpful and they also always have everything I need. I can list several places that need to take note on how to hire and train a team/staff like this but it will take me all night. Thank you to the team that always answers my ditzy home improvement questions!

They have pretty much anything you need for just about every thing. If not, they will get it. Been shopping there for over 35 yrs. Computerized paint system, so you can repaint same color much later. Will cut boards to specs, help with loading and unloading heavy garden purchases, etc. Love it!!

Love this store! Only had one bad experience with an employee in the paint section but I think they were having an off day because ever since they have been very helpful. One employee in particular knows my girlfriend and Is faces - jokes around a lot with us whether together or separate. Reasonable prices for commodities. You can even rent a drill here for like 10 or 20$ for a day I believe. Although the price of a strainer is slightly absurd but Im willing to look past that due to the service and other great products.

However, I would personally recommend the Logan Hardware (1734 14th St. NW) or the Adams Morgan Ace Hardware (1704 Columbia Rd. NW) instead. This is a fantastic city hardware store! The organization and layout of the store are efficient, and the inside and storefront are pleasant to look at and be around.The staff were extremely useful and friendly. They helped me solve my problem, even guiding me to an easier and cheaper solution than the one I had planned on, and indeed it worked out very well and quickly. I just moved to the area and will surely be back.

Was also surprised at how much they had in their little store. I was looking for pretty specific things and they had everything I needed

I love this place! Today I went in to buy a teeny screw drive and battery for my car key. Getting it from a dealer would have taken 2 weeks and about $400. The 2 young women upfront pulled a screwdriver out of the display, took off the casings around my key, put in a new battery and in 10 minutes tops I was out of there for $4 NOT $400.

This is a hardware store for hard core DIY people. It may look small from outside, they have lots of stuff.

Great store, employees are very knowledgeable and helpful. Half the time I dont make it past the entrance way because an employee asks if I need help, Ill explain what Im looking for, and they will literally bring it to the checkout for me.

True Value is my neighborhood hardware store. Whenever Ive stopped by, this place has always been jam-packed with customers. Despite the small size of the store, they always seem to have everything I need. However, unless you enjoy wandering around the store aimlessly, the key to is ask one of their very helpful employees to help you find items (where can I find a toilet gasket for a leaky toilet? What kind of wood glue should I buy to fix an antique table?) They always seem to know best.

Awesome shopping experience with knowledgeable locals. They have pretty much anything you can think of here from wall anchors to pots and pans to door knobs to keys to brooms. Ask for the houseware section which is hidden in the back.Beats going to target any day.

The layout of this place is...interesting. Finding stuff alone would be a challenge. Thankfully, the assistant was very helpful. They had everything I needed.

The BEST example of what a neighborhood store should be - great selection (Ive always found exactly what I needed), helpful staff (everyone is not only nice but they also offer great suggestions) and decent prices (especially given the area). Our go to hardware place!

Ive shopped at this store for a decade and its *great* experience always but thats because Im picky about who I will let help me. Some know what theyre doing, others dont. That explains why these reviews or so high and then so low. Some of the guys are incredibly knowledgeable and terrific and some of them -- when youre alone with them and the others arent listening -- just blow you off or give you bad advice.
