Had a trichology consultation with Patou regarding my hair issues, and she was very knowledgeable and thorough (even considering my normal diet, day-to-day activities, past hobbies, ingredients of the hair products Id taken photos of, etc.). She recommended a natural shampoo (made by a small business in Africa) and oral supplements, which she sold at a reasonable price. I moved away shortly after, but otherwise wouldve gone back for all my hair needs.
Paton knows organic color and hair. She is an excellent colorist and stylist. She discusses what you want and then offers her views of what she recommends is best for the long-term health of your hair. Her cuts are beautiful, and she works magic when it comes to styling (from a 20s look to what suits your lifestyle and hair.) She will never try to sell you products or want you to spend money needlessly. It is difficult to impossible to find someone in the City who works with true organic color, knows her clients and continues to study hair, chemistry and the latest products. She attends skin and hair conferences in D.C. and across the country. If you bring in your own, Patou will take the time to read the list of ingredients of each and guide you on which to use and how. . Paton will even mix lines to achieve what looks best and is the healthiest for your hair. The salon is basic no frills other than extraordinary service (Jackie is a gem) and high quality work. Paton is excellent with ethnic hair, difficult and thinning hair. Give yourself the gift of a consult. Paton is smart, caring and highly skilled.
Patou treated my girlfriend extremely well! Shes been seeking a salon to understand her hair type, and provide suggestions for what she can do to improve it. Patou initially was only going to consult with her, but wound up starting treatment! Great vibes, great convo, super knowledgeable, friendly staff, all around 5 stars!
I had a wonderful experience with Patou and her stylists today. Patou spend 5 hours non-stop with me. She highlighted my hair, which comes all the way to the bottom of my back. Then she trimed it and blew dried it as well. She took her time and taught me a lot of new things to improve my hair that I never knew. All the stylist were helping as well. I was treated like a queen and I wish that I had knew about her along time ago. I highly recommend her salon to anyone who wants quality work.
My skin and hair are... Complicated. I have been to multiple dermatologists who just give me a cream to slap on my scalp which helps for about a month, and then stops working. Dermatologists also dont take into consideration how I should treat my hair. That is where Patou comes in. I had a free trichology consultation with her and we were able to pinpoint certain side effects from certain medications (i.e. hormonal birth control) and come up with an appropriate treatment plan to help resolve my complicated scalp, hair and skin issues. She also was able to give some great advise on how to change some behaviors (like picking my skin when its irritated) to help heal my tender head. So far I have found relief from the spray ive been using and a for once I have a shampoo that doesnt make my hair heavy and greasy!! I cant wait to go back when my scalp heals some more so I will be able to take advantage of their other services.
Patou provides outstanding services. I experienced extreme hair loss due to over processing. I was feeling insecure about my hair. A friend told me to make an appointment with Patou. She said, You will be very satisfied. I made the appointment. Patou examined my hair and asked questions. Most importantly, she listened to understand what is important to me. The staff is friendly and professional. Before I left the shop, Patou took the time to tell me how to care for my hair at home. I will continue going to Patou Salon. She is the best!
I first began going to Patou when she was a stylist at now-closed Oriental Oasis Salon/Spa in Washington, DC. Back in 1995, when I was new to the DC are and experiencing major hair issues, a colleague recommended that I make an appointment with Patou--and I did. She is extremely knowledgeable about ethnic hair and the science of hair. She worked miracles with my hair from 1995 to 2000 (during which time I went to her every eight weeks (for relaxers and hair and scalp treatments)), and again in 2012, when I returned to the DC area and was (and am now) sporting a natural do and had major breakage issues (which were, of course, resolved under Patous care--and they have never returned). Her clientele is predominantly (and perhaps exclusively) African American, and she has many clients with hair down their backs who followed her from Oriental Oasis to her own salon--Patou--and have been with her for 20+ and 30+ years. Trust and believe that Patou knows hair inside and out, knows Black/African American hair inside and out, and that your hair will thrive under her care (and by carefully following her instructions). As well, her salon is conveniently located right across the street from the Eastern Market Metro station on the Blue line.
Ive known Patou for over 14yrs .I worked in her salon and I learned alot about hair loss and every day hair care. Patou is different from other salons when it comes to real know of why this will work and why that wont work. She is not going to push any product that will destroy your hair just for monetary gain. If you get a service once I guarantee you will come back.
A brilliant Woman who does all Hair Types for a really long, a lovely time. Who speaks Fluently in many Langua.Love you Patou!!!!!!!!!!@@@######

She used natural organic hair color, that is great for my type of sensitive skin and more holistic lifestyle living chemical free. For those wanting chemical free products and well as those with hair requiring some mild chemicals Patou is well versed in both. She has a great eye for style with expert cutting skills. With over 30 years experience working with ethnic hair and mix race frizzy, curly and sometimes very hard to manage hair Patou Salon and Spa is the best in all of Greater Washington DC.
Not your average Salon. Patou is a trichologist that reviews your scalp and follicle health. Hair treatments are done with keeping your medical health in mind. All in all, she has nursed my hair back healthy and ended the thinning and balding that I was starting to progress.
