Note: This company has multiple locations and I stayed at the Varsity on K location in Foggy Bottom.I was in DC for 6 weeks for a business trip, so was looking for a place to stay within US government per diem rates that had a kitchen so I wouldnt have to eat out every meal.My biggest problem with PDS was their service and level of professionalism - quite unacceptable given the $250/night it cost to stay here (over $10,000 for my full 6 weeks). PDS does not own or manage this building, so there is no one onsite to talk to when there are problems, which means problems are never resolved quickly. When I first arrived, I noticed there was no hair dryer in the bathroom, and asked if one could be provided. The staff said it would be no problem to drop one off the next day. The next day, I returned from work and there was no hair dryer. When I asked, they said they would bring it the next morning, but by then I needed it (and didnt trust that it really would be dropped off), so purchased my own. The next day (after I purchased a hair dryer), there was a hair dryer in a box sitting on the kitchen counter in a plastic target bag.The second inconvenience happened when I realized the only toilet paper in the suite was the one roll left on the handle. I asked the managers and they said they would send someone by with more the next day. Again, the next day when I returned home from work, no toilet paper. The manager said he would, look into it, and then I never heard back from him about it. To their credit, when I noted it was disappointing that this was the second time this has happened, they gave me a $50 visa gift card as compensation.Probably the worst issue was about a month into my stay, when I returned home to find no running water in the bathroom. Wouldnt any good hotel manager have notified me ahead of time that this would happen and offer a swift alternative or compensation? I dont know any hotel in America where it is acceptable for guests to be without water for any length of time. The alternative offered was a vacant suite across the hall left open for me to use. When I went to check out the suite, it was completely empty, with no towels, no bathmat, no shower curtain, and a toilet that hadnt been cleaned - totally creepy. The building - I was unaware - used to be a GW University dorm and many college students still live there. It felt weird to be staying it what felt like a college dorm. On some mornings, the building also reeked of a sewage smell, which was obviously pretty gross. It was great to have a kitchen, but my ambitions of doing a lot of cooking were thwarted by the fact that basic staples like butter, oil, salt and pepper were not provided. There were a couple small pots and pans, but also no tupperware, foil, plastic wrap, sandwich bags, or coffee filters. For a 6 week stay, it just wasnt worth it to invest in these things, so I ended up not doing much cooking at all, and using the kitchen mostly for easy breakfasts and storing leftovers. I did request a blender, which was put in the suite for me.Another benefit was having a dishwasher and a washer and dryer for laundry, but again - only enough soap was provided for one load in each. I made the laundry soap stretch for 2 loads, but as with the basic kitchen items, it wasnt worth it to invest in gallons of dishwasher and laundry soap for a 6-week stay, which limited the utility of those appliances. All in all, I am not sure the kitchen and washer and dryer (the only real benefits offered that a hotel doesnt have) outweighed the negatives of this place. An AirBnB certainly would have been better. I recommend anyone looking for accommodations for a long-term stay in DC look elsewhere. I guarantee you can do better.
