Great hair cuts just a heads-up new prices for men cut is 30$
One of the best barbershop in N.W. Stoney and Juan are the best!!!
Clean safe barbershop. Cuttin Up is the shop to get your haircut the way you like it. Keep on CuttinUp family. See you all soon.
I was in town for the day and needed a clean up. Found this place and met Stoney and the gang. Only had to wait about 15 minutes before I got in the chair. Juan was my barber. I asked for a tight fade with a dark top. That is basically what I got and was decently satisfied with the results. With that being said, I was not satisfied with the haircut process itself. Juans technique was jabby and harsh. I often felt the clippers hit directly against my skin before trimming, leaving rough patches of bluntly cut hair and was abrasive on my skin. He trimmed under my neck without much care causing bad razor burn and uneven texture. My hair is fairly soft and I have had really smooth fades but this fade turned out choppier likely due to the quick flick technique he used.I had the opportunity to watch Stoney cut a few clients and his technique was much smoother, with really clean lines and the guys came out sharp without too much irritation, from what I could tell. Juan was also distracted by his phone during the cut, which I understand happens when youre working all day, but I think that affected his overall performance. In photos the pinkish areas are where I experienced the most discomfort from clipper burn. My under neck hurt the most. I trim my neck with my own electric trimmer and have never been scratched up like that. I use witch hazel, shea butter, and aloe vera to help the healing process. I plan to use a light salt or sugar scrub over the next few days to help soften the hair to prevent in-grown hairs and further irritation.Overall, the cut turned out alright and $30 wasnt too bad given its DC, though I have had cleaner for less. The guys were really cool and I appreciate a Black owned barbershop doing their best, but I would recommend tightening up the practice with more consideration of skin and hair textures for even better results.
They know how to handle every hair type and they are fairly price
Friendly folks and great cuts
This barbershop is the real deal, a constant in the neighborhood for decades. Stoney, the owner/proprietor/maestro-of-manes can regularly be found greeting everyone that passes by and encourages everyone to sit for a spell, engage in conversation and feel welcome. These days, in this city, a real Spot like this is priceless (and their pricing is spot on to boot.)
Great guys, they know how to do a solid military high and tight, fair price! Get there!
The owner and other barbers can cut well, great atmosphere, clean place and nice humble and down to earth.
Its possible to get an excellent haircut here, but if you plan to come near opening you should be open to the idea of them not being open anywhere near on time. Convenient for those who work downtown, not convenient for when the only time Im available is during my lunch hour.
Some haircuts costs $10 and are worth $10. Some cost $15 and are worth that. This haircut cost $25 and was worth twice that. Ive never had a barber treat my hair like he was working on a piece of art. Great neighborhood barbershop, friendly. Wonderful experience, especially if you get to wait in line.
Its easy to wait an hour here. Staff will help other customers who come in after you before you, perhaps on accident but mostly because there is no organization or sense of a line. They arent honest about wait times when asked -- always not long, no matter how long its really going to be.
Out here visiting D.C all the way from Santa Cruz mountains California. ...happen to pass by the place while walking to the local coffee joint.(First Cup)Decided that it is time to finally get a real hair cut after doing it myself for all these years. Stoney said...I got you:-) best hair cut I ever had! Such talent. It seems as if your hair talks to him...Great artist... Highly recommended. I only wish he was out where I live so I can become a regular customer :-)
Need a barber that can properly line you up? Look know further
Went there one cold morning and I was given an option of having tea or coffee as I waited for my cut. The staff was really friendly and skilled. They really have mastered how to use their scissors. Guys should really check this place out.
Great experience. I found this barber shop online while I was in staying in DC for the weekend. It was a clean, family oriented place. I had a great conversation the barber who cut my hair.
Wow $25 for a clipper cut! I am use to paying $15. I waited 20 minutes only to have one of the barbers who spent most of his time talking finally tell me there was gonna be someone else before me. And I was the only one waiting. Why didnt you tell me that 20 minutes ago?$&@!. I work at DC CC and would not recommend this spot to any of my co-workers.
Really nice place. Friendly staff that treat you like family. Check out their Instagram page for pics of some of the cuts.
I just got a haircut from Connie and this has to be one of the worst cuts I ever got. I had to tell her to cut my hair and my goatee evenly. And she always pulled my neck back which was very uncomfortable. The clippers she used to cut my face were close and stung like crazy. I would not reccomend her to anyone.
Stoney is the real deal and greets everybody by name as they walk in. Works great with pictures/descriptions (low fade with combover for me), updates throughout process and has awesome attention to detail. The best cut I have gotten for $25!Everyone waited 15-20 minutes for their barber but really friendly community and fantastic cuts (White or Black).
I got an amazing haircut here. I am from out of town and I read great reviews so I came here. They lived up to the reviews and then some. Stoney gave me the best haircut ever.
Great barber shop. Stoney, the owner, is incredibly nice guy and its obvious he is a big part of the community. Cash only.
I usually cut my hair at a Howard University campus Barber, until I came across Cuttin- Up Barber Shop!!! Awesome everyday people who do what they do best in the most professional way……………. The Shop is not like your usual Barber spots; its clean, the topics discussed are never xxx rated or inappropriate, your always greeted with a smile, handshake and or by name. Juan, Stony, Connie and Latisha: Together they all create the atmosphere of comfort/ that back home Caribbean feeling. Weather your Black, White, Latino, Indian or Middle East Cuttin – Up Barber Shop is the Ultimate Barber Shop in the DC area.
I went to Cuttin-up on my lunch break and had no problem getting in. It seems as if Juan is used to a certain type of haircut but I talked him through what I wanted and he did a great job. Hes super friendly so Ill probably swing by again and shoot the breeze with him but maybe go to another Barber Shop more familiar with my hair (straight and blonde)
Incredibly friendly shop. I found my favorite barber shop! Great haircut!
My new favorite barbershop. Walked in randomly just needing a cut and a beard line-up, walked out feeling like Id known Stoney and Juan for years. Friendliest barbers you can find and great cuts for a solid price. Got great advice from Stoney about shaving to reduce razor bumps and had an overall great time! Def recommend this place for all guys (not just black either) in the District!
Fantastic service and great people!
Great haircuts and fun atmosphere! What more do you need from your barber shop?
Best haircut in years!
I was traveling on business to DC and walked to three barbershops and they were not up to par or presentable. I found Stoney at Cuttin Up Barbershop and I was highly concerned with my cut however he reassured me that he could deliver on what I needed.I had the best haircut I have ever had now I hate that I do not live here to get another. Haircut!! COME HERE CUT OUT THE SEARCH!! #TheBest
Nice cuts
Juan and Stoney are and have been for years, true examples of professionalism, perseverance and honest commitment to community. They are the soul of Cuttin-Up Barber Shop and it is what a neighborhood barbershop should strive to be. One doesnt need glitz, sparklers and hype to get a good, old-fashioned shave, trim or high quality cut. Its just comforting to know that when you get to the door, they are where they have been for almost 20, if not more than 20 years... in service to family, friends and the community. Its a great shop with a fantastic team of people always willing to serve others. It isnt just about a cut at Cuttin-Up.Cuttin-Up is neighborhood royalty.
Best Cut in the District! Cool and clean surroundings, perfect break from the summer heat!

Been going to this barbershop for 8 years. they are awesome
The barbers are so professional and pleasant. The haircuts are awesome
Not open at 11am, came back an hour later and still closed. No sign, nothing on their facebook, phone has no voicemail. Wasted 20min walking around.
Stoney is an amazing barber!
