I traveled to DC from North Carolina for the weekend and my transmission failed. I found the closest shop, which happened to be Ben Nielsens. They were able to accommodate me by getting my vehicle in right away. I wish they hadnt. Five plus hours and 800 dollars later, they flushed my transmission fluid and topped it off. The fluid was almost bone dry. They couldnt find a leak and said it must have been from when I had work done almost a year ago. Brought it to my local mechanic in NC. Five minutes and almost half the price they found a leak and fixed my transmission for good. Do not go to Ben Nielsens. They will price gauge you and you will still have issues with your vehicle!!
Happened to find this place when looking to get a headlight fixed after 5pm. They took me in right before their closing, had it changed in 2 minutes flat, and didn’t even charge for it! The owner was such a mensch! Would happily go back for any other auto needs!
If Chris answers the phone, hang up. Every promise he made to me over the phone, he broke. Every question I asked, he couldnt answer and would dodge by saying We have the best mechanics in town.I called many places to see if I could get my alternator fixed in two days, as I had a trip out of town and Chris promised they could look at it Thursday and have it fixed by Friday. I called on Friday because I hadnt heard anything from them; he said they hadnt even looked at it but would get it done Saturday. Called Saturday, and they refused to look at it on Saturday. Monday they finally did a diagnostic review ($150 just to look at the car, not fix anything). I reiterated on Saturday and Monday that I was leaving at noon on Tuesday for my trip and needed my car. Chris once again assured that it would be done. Guess what? It wasnt. I get a call at 3:00pm that they are finishing it up, but Im already out of town, had to make last-minute, expensive travel arrangements, and get a friend to pick up the car for me.In normal circumstances, 5 days to fix a car isnt totally unreasonable IF THAT IS WHAT IS AGREED UPON. But the only reason I brought my car here was the promise of getting it looked at in a timely manner, which I stated from the beginning and reiterated many times. Ive had better experiences with other shops and I will take my car there in the future. Only reason this review doesnt get 1 star is because the alternator works and the diagnostic review (while not asked for/needed) was thorough and provided pictures of actual problems.
If you are a young woman, try avoid this place. They assume you know nothing about cars and willing to pay $2000 for an easy $400 fix.Wasn’t going to leave a comment but it keeps sending me text messages, which reminds of unpleasant visit here.Earlier this year my car’s check engine light came on while I was traveling in DC. I didn’t want to drive 4 hours back home without cruise control function so I decided to have it fixed in DC. Google and Yelp seems give good reviews about this place with some mentioned they tend to scam women, I was skeptical about this place already but it was the only solid option near me.After initial assessment, they gave me a quote of $1600 on the phone for changing all spark plugs and air censors. I asked “both air censors were broken?!” The guy on the phone hesitated and sounded kind of shock that I know there are two air censors lol. (I’m a tiny Asian woman in my late 20s.) He brushed it through and said yea. Then I asked how much are spark plugs and how much are air censors. He said $600 for spark plugs. ***note that I literally just changed spark plugs 6 months ago at my local car guy’s place, so they’re trying to charge me something I didn’t need at all***I was also 70% sure only one air censor broke, not both, and this place already lost my trust. So I said I don’t need to have them fixed, went in and paid $100+ evaluation fee and left. I didn’t even want to argue about the evaluation fee, although they literally just need to read the code.Long story short I found a friend in DC who knows a local car guy, brought me in the next day, told me only front censor was broken, charged me $380 total. (Spark plugs were fine, too.) AND, told me there’s a small cut on my exhaust, put in a temporary fix for free, so I can get it fixed after driving to my home city.In conclusion… you need a trusted car guy in every single city you drive to…I don’t know why it’s “identified as female led” on google, maybe one of the 20 stakeholders is a woman?
I will use Ben Nielsens again and refer friends to them. The customer service experience was great and they text updates on timing and any additional issues they find with the car. Great, friendly experience. Thanks again!
These guys are absolutely awesome. I got a surprise nail in my tire that I discovered this morning. I showed up at 7:30 and they had it patched and I was on my way before 8. So friendly, efficient, and expert! I will definitely be coming back for all future services (and mishaps)!
Truly had an amazing experience here. I rolled up in the morning with a brake light that was out and no appointment. Still, they took me right away and I was in and out in 15 mins. The team provided fantastic service.
Great quality of work and communication. S higher end estimates prices. Overall very friendly and reputable with convenient location.
First time getting my car serviced in DC and so happy I was recommend Bens! The car inspection is great and they send you over the full inspection after with tiers of what repairs need to be done in level of seriousness/timeliness. My car took an extra day and they graciously offered me the loner vehicle for the day. Fair prices and great service!! I’ll be back!
Even though they were unable to fix my vehicle they gave me a proper diagnosis which gave me insight on next steps. Edward was prompt with returning my phone call when necessary. I am selling my car, but I know where to go when I need repairs for my next vehicle.
Wonderful and considerate business! They saved my weekend roadtrip! BN was very accommodating, providing thorough, high quality, courteous and detailed maintenance—same day! They gave clear and detailed reports throughout the process and did excellent work. I would recommend to anyone!
The guys here are really pleasant and even though there was a hiccup and delay in communication on my vehicle estimate, they went out of their way to remedy the situation and reinspect my vehicle, taking the time to walk me through issues and concerns with my car still on the lift so I could easily put my own eyes on things. I was then able to drop it off to get some work done the next day and pick it up in the afternoon. I am impressed with the lengths they went through to just to correct a complaint, as well as the speed with which the work was done. Ill definitely be back!
Very helpful service and nice people. Informative as well! Thank you!
Ben Nielsen always provides great service. I really like their platform for communicating any issues they find and they always try to work with me if they anticipate a high cost repair that needs to be done.
Honest mechanic. Thought I had a hole in my tire but turned out just to be a leak in the gasket. They fixed it the next day for no charge. Will definitely be back.
I recommend this auto repair shop without any hesitation. They do a thorough inspection of my car and provide a detailed report of the condition of all systems with recommendations of repairs that should be made immediately and those which can be deferred. Quality work at a fair price.
Excellent inspection with my oil change. Provided photographic proof of recommended future preventative maintenance corrections. They were efficient and priced fairly. Id recommend it to anyone.
Shout out to Chris, Corey and Edwin for their general commitment to excellence. These guys are prompt, honest, communicative, and thorough. I will be going back!
Great team and service! Special thanks to Dion. Very friendly and patient in helping to get my truck serviced and back on the road sooner than I initially thought I would need it.
If I could give 10 stars I would, extremely professional, the shop has a modern up to date fresh feel they genuinely take pride in the job and they do it with integrity along with efficiency I had a great experience
Tremendous service. Received oil change, new tires, new filters, etc. and everything came out fantastic. Service was prompt and professional, with great communication along the way. Lucky to have such a great shop close to home.
Despite some miscommunication in the beginning that delayed the service by a day, Dion and his team did a great job. Dion was professional and made amends for the miscommunication and provided detailed and honest feedback on the necessary service for my Subaru, which has been working well since. We will be back! Thank you!
There was a miscommunication on my end with my appointment for an oil change. They were so helpful and squeezed me in the next morning even with a full schedule. Great work, fair prices. Will go back.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about my experience here! From the initial phone call to the greeting when we arrived, there was nothing but professionalism and courtesy from the whole team. If you need repairs in the DC area, this is the place to go!
I went there and asked if an alignment was possible for my import. They said bring it in and well get it done. Another shop said it had to go to the dealer because it needed special tools. Nielsen got it done quicklyand reasonably priced
I just came to Bens for my second time, for routine oil change & maintenance. Less than 24 hours later, after having ONLY driven the car back to my apartment (which is under a mile from the mechanic), I started my car and noticed an orange exclamation point on my dashboard that I had never seen before. I looked it up, and this indicated an issue with my tire pressure that this vehicle had never experienced before.I called, figuring that there might be some explanation because I had only driven my car a mile since I took my car back from the mechanic. On the phone, I was cut off and told you must have punctured your tire. When I reiterated that Id only driven under a mile away from the mechanic before the exclamation park turned on, I was given the same line: no, you must have punctured it.I would have expected the mechanic to be a little more curious about why the car he had serviced the prior day had a warning light given that I had only driven the car one mile, 14 hours after I had taken my car back from the appointment. It would seem pretty unlikely that I had punctured my tire in that short a time, and even if that was a possibility, the mechanics lack of care about a car he had serviced just yesterday was an immediate turn-off.In the end, I paid $260 for an oil change, air filter replacement, and routine maintenance, all which appears to have left me more problems than when I started. Bens also - in both appointments Ive had with them - got my phone number wrong, even after I had double checked it when dropping my car off. As a result, I didnt receive communication about my car until I called 8 hours after dropping the car off, at which point they told me they needed an additional day to get around to inspecting my car.I was referred here by a friend, and I was originally excited to have a mechanic that seemed competent, if a little pricey, nearby - my friend and I will now be searching for different mechanic services in the area.
I can’t say enough good things about this place. They’re friendly, trustworthy, reasonable, reliable, helpful, and thorough. They’ve been taking care of my car for years. One day, I had a car emergency, and Ben’s squeezed me in and helped me out right away even though they were slammed busy. I’m so grateful for their service.
Really nice guys. Got us in quickly for an emergency. Appreciate it.
I have been going here since I moved to DC almost two years ago. They are very knowledgeable and a great value. They are very honest and only recommend services that my car actually needs. They do excellent work.
Great first experience! Solid customer service and quality work at a fair price. Ill definitely be back!
Great experience. Highly recommend and will be taking my car back.
I drove in from out of town and heard a terrible screeching sound. Luckily, I drove into Ben Nielsen’s 10th St Automotive. The team assessed and fixed the problem within hours! Each team member I spoke with was friendly, efficient, and professional. My car is safe for driving again and I am so grateful. Highly recommend!
Great business that really cares about its customers. I even got a movie recommendation when I picked up my car.
Great service! My window had been broken as the result of a robbery and they were able to see me immediately after I called on a Saturday am. The service was fast and I managed to get my car back by. The customer service is super. I highly recommend!
Knowledgeable, honest, efficient. Your car will be diagnosed and repaired in as affordable way possible. So glad we found this garage upon moving to DC.
I truly had a great experience with Ben Nielsens as this was my first time so I was a bit apprehensive but they had me at JEEP. They took good care of her today and even impressed me with the digital full service body inspection. Great team here and I will definitely be back.
Good communication and efficient service. Close to my home so made drop off and pick up easy. Pricing seemed on par with other places Ive been to.
**Update to my original review**The shop reached out to me directly and apologized, as well as offering two future oil changes at no cost. I appreciate how communicative management has been since my oil change and how open theyve been about discussing my experience.Original reviewI took my car here for an oil change. I dropped it off at 9:45 am and made an appointment online, which apparently made no difference at all. I was told I would be given a call when it was ready, but no indication as to the time of day or what time to expect. I heard nothing for several hours. I finally called around 3:00 pm and was told they had not gotten to my car yet. I asked around what time it would be ready since they close the shop at 6pm and I didn’t want to get a call at 5:45 pm saying I had 15 minutes to get there. They told me they weren’t sure and they would call me. 5:30 rolls around and no phone call. I called them again and was told they would not be getting to my car at all that day and could I pick it up the next morning. The fact that no one bothered to call me to give me any timing indication is completely unprofessional and terrible customer service. I had to continue to call and check on the status of my car myself. Luckily, I didn’t need my car that night. I will not be going back here - this business illustrated zero accountability, poor organization, and thoughtlessness.
This shop is great Im so glad I found it, bad things keep happening to my car and Dion has been great. Fantastic communication, willing to go above and beyond, and trying to keep costs down for me. Everyone here has been friendly and nice- genuine and trustworthy.
These guys are great. They care about their work, and hence your car, and are helpful to someone who doesnt know a whole lot about cars.
Very efficient and friendly service to repair a flat tire
Went here recently based on the good reviews. Needed an oil change for my 2009 Honda CR-V and wanted them to cut off a piece of rusted heat shield that was clanking around underneath my car. They told me I needed all new struts, brakes, fluids changed--over $5000 of work. I agreed to to $2000 of it (fluids and rear brakes) but wanted a second opinion on the rest. When I picked up my car, the piece of heat shield I asked them to remove was still clanking around, so I turned around and watched them try to cut and then rip it off my car. Later that day I noticed oil leaking from my car. It turns out these guys messed up the oil filter when they installed it. Additionally, they put hole in my exhaust when they ripped the heat shield off (which is why you cut it off); the brake fluid they said they replaced was still really dirty and had to be replaced again; and about $2000 of the remaining work they told me should be done was completely unnecessary. I am pretty disappointed that I wasted my time and money with this place and recommend that you dont.
This has started to be my go-to place and I am so thrilled with the continually outstanding service. 14/10 recommend!
Everyone was so kind and helpful. From the moment I called to leaving the shop, I felt like I was in good hands. As a first time car owner, vehicle issues can certainly be stressful but they helped fixed my tire in only 20 minutes. 100% recommend these guys and I’ll be certainly going back in the future!
Great service. Staff was friendly and helpful. 100% will go again for future car needs.
Tl;dr: listen to the handful of negative reviews on here and do not go here if you are a young woman or if you do not know much about cars.I brought my car in for a front end alignment, so as any greedy auto shop working with a young woman would, they recommended that I get new tires, brakes, struts, and shocks, even though my car had been inspected and had new tires put on it just 3 months ago. After declining that work, they informed me that I needed to replace two control arms with ball joints to do the alignment. I agreed to the work, which they estimated at $1,500. I agreed to that cost because I did not know how long it would take and was NOT provided with a detailed invoice at that time. I looked up the cost of the parts and assumed that most of the cost must be labor. But when the car was finished in less than 3 hours, I asked for an itemized bill, which said I owed $1,000 for labor. When I went to pick up my car, I asked how they arrived at $1,000 for labor when the work took no more than 3 hours and they charge about $140/hr for labor. Both the mechanic and shop manager instantly became extremely abrasive and defensive and said that the book quoted the work at 6 hours and, though they admitted the work took no more than 3 hours altogether, it didnt matter because they had to charge me for 6 hours of labor. I told them that I would not pay for 6 hours of labor when it took half that time or less. They continued to argue with me and insisted that I had to pay for 6 hours of labor. I stood my ground and eventually they agreed to reduce the bill and charge for 3 hours of labor, but only to get rid of me. In fact, the mechanic told me that he would never work on my car again and that he wanted to be done with me. Even though the mechanic later claimed that he overcharged me by mistake (which doesnt add up given that they knew all along it only took 3 hours, but defended charging me for 6 hours), the manager defended the $1,500 estimate and was extremely hostile and argumentative with me. After an upsetting conversation that the manager made unnecessarily confrontational, I still ended up paying more than I should have because the work did not take a full three hours. I will not bring my car to their shop ever again and I would recommend going to another shop if youre a young woman and/or if you dont know a lot about cars and how much repairs should cost.
Speedy service. Excellent pricing. Trustworthy. Replaced water pump. So glad I found them- will definitely use again.
Excellent customer service. I couldn’t change the hatch locks on my Celica by myself. I found this place online and it had good reviews. I called ahead and tDion was able to take me in the same day. The whole service was very professional and friendly. Would definitely go back.
Quick and honest, well priced... Was there for a window fix and the issue was fixed same-day
Great! A little pricey though compared to places in Arlington, that are just 10 minutes away.
Called on Monday, took the car in for A/C repair on Thursday morning, and then had the car back and working by Thursday afternoon. Tough to beat the quick and professional service I got here.
Chris was very professional, nice, and knowledgeable. The work got done quickly and the whole experience was very pleasant. I came in for regular maintenance and to have the hatchback door fixed on my Prius. I will definitely come back.
Love this place! I usually go to the Skyline Automotive location in Falls Church, but decided to try out the DC location. You may drive past unless you were specifically looking for it - so when you go, keep your eyes peeled! Overall, knowledgeable and attentive staff, comfortable seating room. There are windows on 2 of 4 walls so you can see the shop during work. I went in for an oil change for my Jeep, but Id highly recommend this place for basic or more advanced work. Ask for Dion, hes been in the industry for a long time and knows his stuff!
The day before our trip home from DC, the car had a flat tire. After calling a number of tire service companies without much luck in arranging for repair/replacement, we gave Ben Nielsen’s a call.Spoke to Tracy and were given all the information we needed and an appointment for next day early morning.Tires arrived on time and work was finished before noon.Dion and Lil Jay got us back on the road. Thanks for your great work and customer service! 😊
Amazing customer service, quality, and timing to fix our car before our road trip. We got an oil change, new windshield wipers. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Thank you!
I recently purchased a used car, and have run into a couple of minor issues--one my fault (wheel cover related) and one the dealers (wrong windshield wiper attachments). Both times I drove it over to Ben Nielsens, which is conveniently right in my neighborhood, and received excellent service. Dion went out of his way to track down the appropriate windshield wiper attachment and didnt add any charges to the bill. I will definitely be back!
If not for Mr. Dionne and the 10th st. family I don’t know if I would even have a truck. There were so many things wrong with this vehicle starting with the transmission that I know I would have just gotten rid of it. Thanks so much for the effort and time you all gave to me and my vehicle.Btw I love all the updates you give while working thru vehicles thru email. All my business for any vehicle that I own will be coming here...Thanks for everything!!!
Once again, 10th Street steps up. Yes, I’ve had them service my bmw for general reasons, but also lately for a hole in the radiator and a leaking valve cover gasket. This week, I had a broken trunk latch, which may sound routine, but not on a bmw. Total replacement of latch and electrical components. So this group continues to excel. Their technicians are superb and Chris is a delightful person to work with. I appreciate their ability to keep my older bmw running.
Mechanic was rude he didnt let me know where to park the vehicle for service 🙄
I brought my old Toyota to Ben Nielsens because of the positive reviews online and Im glad I did. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I loved that they were able to work on my very old low tech car (many shops wont work on it anymore) but their communication was high tech. Their thorough diagnostic report complete with pictures and explanations was sent in a link to my phone.... very convenient! A technician took the time to explain what I needed and why. The end result was my car was back on the road at a very reasonable cost. Due to Ben Nielsens customer service and quality of work I now have a new service center for my car.
Today was my first visit. I have had many cars and taken them to many garages in my lifetime, but this experience was the easiest, timeliest, and most professional of them all. I had numerous items that needed catching up on with my Toyota and I feel they took care of each of them to perfection and at a very good price. I certainly will be back and will highly recommend these folks to others. Thanks for a job well done.
Got an oil change done. Nearly 40% less than another nearby place and didn’t take too long. Everyone there was nice and professional. Hard to beat the location too.
Gosh...I really want to like these guys, but so expensive. Be ready for it. Very organized, clean, do fine work...but I dont trust their pricing one bit! Went in for an electrical problem...Mazda CX5 ignition would shut off the car, but electrical accessories (such as radio) would stay on. I had them diagnose...they came back with a problem with the shifter switch. How much to fix? Over $800. Doing some homework...similar repairs reported at $200-$400 max. I told them that seems high...response have to remove a lot of dashboard to get at it, so it adds to price). Well ok...Ill try do fix it myself. Happy to say I did it. Yes, had to remove a number of console pieces, but did it all in less than one hour! So why would it cost $800?! Sad to say, I dont trust their pricing one bit. Expensive!
There is a reason this place has 5 stars. First time customer and I’ll 100% be back.
Great people, very clear and helped to make decisions about which repairs were necessary. I have a 14 y/o car and need to take a 14 hr road trip so their expert advice about repairs was important. I will be making the trip in 14 days so checking with them before I hit the road was important. Repairs completed in a timely fashion. All good. Thank you.
Great, professional, friendly service. Will definitely return next time I need car maintenance.
Loved it! Thank you.
I posted a negative review about this establishment about a week ago (which is below). I honestly never thought that these reviews made any difference. I was surprised at the immediate response to my concerns by the owner. I reached out to Mr. Nielsen (owner) as he requested in his reply. In my opinion, the true test of a company is not how it functions when all is well, but how it functions when there is conflict. Mr. Nielsen was very apologetic and helpful. He offered a free diagnostic. I almost felt guilty for writing the negative review. My truck was in the shop the next day and the staff, as I said previously, continued to be polite and cordial. Although my truck was beyond repair, I now see why there were so many favorable reviews. The company showed a genuine concern for the issues I had. Thank you Mr. Nielsen and staff!!!Previous Review: I heard great things about this shop and when I was having transmission issues, I immediately reached out. I was fortunate enough to speak with one of the owners who was very professional and nice. We ended up having a hardy discussion and he shared how well the business had been going, inspite of the pandemic. Since my truck would only go in reverse, the owner advised that they could send out a tow a week later because of how busy they were. I agreed, and he advised they would come between 9-12pm.On the date, I waited until 2pm before calling and check on the status of the tow. I was advised that there was an oversight but they could come the following day between the same hours. They next day, I waited...no call and no show.I let a week go by and decided, because they were so busy, to have my truck towed to them through my AAA account. When I called to advise of this, the earliest they could accept my truck was 10 days later. You would think, given they were a no show on two occasions to pick up my truck after a promise to do so, that they would give me some preference...but this was not the case! While I don’t doubt these guys do great service, and my phone conversations have been very professional, was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with the lack of follow through. So as it stands now, my truck, 3 weeks later, is in the garage and I have to find another mechanic. I still wish the shop success cause times are hard, but my experience has been frustrating!
I cannot begin to express how great Frank and the team were! I found them quick on Google and it was my first time working with them and they treated me like I had been coming to the shop for years! I came in with a boat load of issues after purchasing a used car and Frank and his team were so welcoming and very open and honest with the repairs I needed! I felt like they did their best to ensure they did the most cost effective method for repairs and provided great advice!! I would recommend this shop to anyone and I will for sure be back for routine maintenance!
Great experience. They even got me an Uber back home! So through and professional. I brought it in for an oil change but it had been a while since I had gotten anything done. They have me a full report with pictures and exactly what was going on with the car. I had gone there when another spot was booked for days. They took my car in and got it back to me in 24 hours. So grateful.
10th St Automotive went above and beyond. I initially went to get an oil change and they did a full inspection and diagnostic. They were upfront and transparent/honest about upcoming maintenance and deferral options. I went back for full brake job later and their price and service was very reasonable. The front office and mechanics are knowledgeable, patient, and friendly. They communicate well and offered a loaner car unsolicited. Highly recommend 10th St Automotive. They are so refreshing in an industry not known for any of this- happy to give them my business going forward.
Awesome repair place.Love the modern digital format of the photos and explanation of your car’s issuesChris got me rockin with some new brakes and fixed other issues that other shops missed altogether
I found this place just doing a general search looking a for a repair shop. I enjoyed frank customer service, From the moment we spoke on the phone from the moment I met him in person. All the gentleman were just that awesome with explaining anything with along with their customer service which was again awesome. I didn’t plan on spending the money that I did,Lol... but I believe they told me the right thing information to get my car running well. I appreciate their help and I look forward to doing business with them in the future. Keep up the great work guys!!!!
Ladies, theres nothing intimidating about this place. The service was friendly, professional and good quality. They even email you short relevant gearhead vids that breakdown your breakdown. Without many contacts in this area it was tough choosing out of the blue but Id gladly pop back into 10th Street Automotive if ever Im in town with car issues again.
Very honest and professional people.
They got me in immediately when I had an emergent battery issue. They were incredibly friendly and accommodating! Will definitely use them for future car needs!
They are very quick to get you in, and I have never needed to leave my car there more than a few hours. Very professional while still being friendly. Upfront about prices.
I found Ben Nielsen’s automotive while googling “Mechanics Near Me.” Ben Nielsen’s popped up and they had great reviews. My air conditioner blew out which prompted me to go. I’m glad I read the reviews because they did a great job! They were friendly and affordable.
Honesty is why I first started coming her 20 years ago.Professional friendly, Clean garage and office. overall excellent service
This is hands down the best place to take your vehicle for any and everything you might need done. They take the time to find the root of the problem instead of giving you a temporary fix just to get you out the door. They got me in to replace my starter the day after I called in, and they kept my car for three days getting to the bottom of a battery/wiring issue. They did research and figured out the battery I had was actually incorrect despite multiple data bases saying it was which ultimately resolved my dead car nightmares. They go above and beyond with their service and customer care. This is the only place I trust with my car!
The cost of the work of outstanding, my vehicle was delivered faster than I expected and the work I asked to be done was ON POINT. Very Pleased.
This place is great. Dion was very helpful and professional throughout the entire process of our repair and service.*They are open during the quarantine and have great, thorough policies in place to keep everyone safe.
Dion took care of us every step of the way and even came to us to help try to jumpstart the car during the pandemic. The shop works very efficiently and they seem very honest. I’ve found it’s very easy to get ripped off at auto shops in DC but feel a sense of trust with this team.
They were very helpful in unraveling problems caused by another service shop. They are very honest and straightforward. Communications were easy (via email and phone), and their prices seem quite reasonable. I will definitely recommend them to my friends.
I brought my truck in for an electrical problem. It was fixed quickly and the garage was communicative. Im pretty sure they even fixed some minor paint damage on my hood free of charge too. Very organized, friendly, and pleasant experience overall. Ill be back (but hopefully not too soon ;-)
I took my company car here to check on some squeaky brakes, which were repaired several months ago at a different shop that has since closed. They took the weekend to evaluate and confirmed that this is a standard sound and the new brake pads just need some breaking in (no pun intended). Best of all, no charge for their evaluation since they didnt make any repairs! Nice dudes.
Super responsive, timely, and professional in their work. Ive used other local shops where the car sits for days and the process / parts / repair operations is generic at best and opaque at worst, including on the final bill. The interactive tool these guys use to show real-time progress on the vehicle, including photos, is extremely helpful. Highly recommend.
Incredibly communicative and quick turnarounds.Ive brought my Jeep in here a couple of times, theyve always been able to get me in quickly, usually sooner than Im ready for, and have done speedy turnarounds on my car while very thoroughly providing me with updates as to what theyve found and what my options are.In my experience, theyve been helpful and not pushy, honestly telling me what work needs to get done and flagging emerging issues (on my 20 year old car).Theyre also nice folks and have been good to chat with every time Ive picked up the car.
Very helpful and capable staff. I took my car in with a flat tire and was in and out quickly.
This place is awesome; less cost than a dealership, better quality than a dealership, and right here in our neighborhood. Its the only place Ill be going to service my vehicle. Dion is a cool shop manager too.
My car was having battery/alternator issues and I was hesitant to drive it out to the dealership in VA. Ben Nielsens 10th Street Automotive is the closest mechanic to my house, so I decided to give them a shot. They were fantastic! Despite a busy schedule, Dion was able to fit in an appointment the same day I called. He and Corey were very professional during the entire process, and they use an email/text/web-based portal to document the service theyre performing, including photos. It was awesome. I got a call from Dion to discuss the work that was needed (as well as other work that hes recommend for the future, but could wait for now) and before I knew it my car was ready. Convenient, honest, professional, and efficient - thank you, 10th Street Automotive! I will be back.
This is the best experience I have had with my car. Frank was so great and helpful, plus the step by step system that emails and texts you regarding your cars status is genius. Plus, there was nothing done to my car without notification which is something that just doesnt happen. I cannot recommend Ben Nielsens 10th Street Automotive enough if you are in Washington, DC.

I had a great experience at Ben Nielsens. Very professional, quick, and courteous. Ill definitely come back!
It has been a fiasco trying to get a new catalytic converter and crossover pipe, which has now led me to have to replace the muffler and resonator. They wanted to charge a high price until I called around to get other quotes, after which they lowered the price significantly.
Convenient and courteous.
I would just say, from the time I called them, til the time I picked up my car, they were on point, especially with the communication about wat was going on with my car and the service of the staff was on 1000, appreciate the love 💯👍
Update: After posting the review, Frank contacted me, apologized for the confusion on his part, and refunded me what I had to pay.Original: I had been to Nielsens in the past year and spent a substantial amount for a quick repair, so I was happy when they had sent me a $100 gift card at Christmastime. Recently, I was due for an oil change, and Nielsen was running a special on oil changes ($105 for oil, tire rotation, and wiper blades), so I figured it was a good time. When dropping off my car, I confirmed with two of the employees at the desk that the gift card could be combined with the service I was asking for, and that there were no stipulations. They said it would be good and they held onto the card for me.About an hour after dropping off the car, I received a call and they tell me I cannot combine the gift card with the special. I either pay the $105 out of pocket, or pay full price for the oil change package (about $180) and use the gift card. I ask to just have an oil change, none of the extras, so I can use the gift card. They tell me it will be about $85 and we confirm this together. A few hours pass, and I receive a call stating that the car is ready for me, and my total is about $85.Upon picking up the car, I am told the total is now $147. I explain how we had agreed on the phone before work was started that I only wanted the basic oil change, not the tire rotation or new wiper blades. They tell me that was never communicated to them; this is hard to believe considering the phone calls agreeing to $85 before work was started, and the call when work was finished saying my total was $85.I tried again to explain that I had only agreed to have an oil change performed, but the man did not budge and said my total was $147. Wait, wasnt the special supposed to be $105? At this point they tell me I can apply the gift card to the $147 and pay the difference.I used to think these guys were great at communicating to the customer what was being performed on your vehicle and the work to be performed before going forward, but this has changed my mind. Their price was double the market rate to begin with, and they just needed some more it seems.TLDR; Nielsen performed work on my car I didnt agree to after multiple phone calls saying what to be performed and what my bill would be. They wouldnt honor the agreement and charged me nearly double what was quoted.
