Beautiful community space. Tons of art and gallery space. Nice outdoors area. Great indoor space for community events. Not very Metro accessible so if you’re planning a visit, I recommend coming by car or being prepared to walk. But once you get here, it’s easy to spend an hour or two just walking around and looking and what there is to see. Take some time out of a weekend to check it out.
So we had stopped by to take a picture of the beautiful community center. It was obvious a church reclaimed by artists and is vibrant and so colorful. I have never seen anything like it.Inside is urban, community art and it honestly is inviting for all types. There are also artwork outside to admire peoples creativity and artistic ability to appreciate.Parking is a little difficult as it is non-existent and any street parking is permit for the apartment complex next to it.
*Heart Love Eyes* (x 1,000)We have nothing else like this in DC. For so long DC lacked the urban art culture that so many other cities had booming way before us. So its really lovely to see all the wonderful additions in DC, and Blind Whino is one!The building itself is a beautiful historic church. And then you add gorgeous colors and art to it?! DUH! How could it not be amazing?! So many weddings and private events happen here, and I can totally see why. Such a wonderful venue space. On top of being a venue space, Blind Whino has rooms that are transformed into art galleries. They feature different artists and exhibits. Although small, definitely a great space. Again, the building alone is amazing enough art to see!I could stare at Blind Whino for days and never get bored. Beautiful.Free parking lot. And plenty of street parking.
Amazing music, cool games. There are a few options to drink but they were good for me.
This is one of the premier art enclaves in D.C. The newest collection features a dad capturing pictures of his son in a space suit in numerous different scenarios to illustrate the exploration and continuous discovery of children. From the evanescent colors adorning the building to the awesome and kind people who run the spot, this is a must see for D.C.
Amazing space, beautiful art and great energy!
Went by here and I love the preservation of this space. It has recently changed name but the atmosphere and ambiance remains the same. I love how as a vendor you are able to curate your own space and make it your own for the time there. I love the funky design and painting of the building. This place can transition to whatever you mind can imagine. It is a creatives mind dream space.
Very colorful and pretty place but surroundings were not managed well.
Terrific exhibits from Heidi and Michael. I had nice convos with them. The space is just amazing. It has to be seen to be believed
This place is breathtaking, unique, and inspiring. The artwork that covers all the walls is stunning. This place is alive - both with art in bold, psychedelic colors that covers the walls and from the passion of the people that maintain this space. When I went, there were people working in the garden, cool music playing in the main room on the first floor (courtesy of the lovely Lisette), and an amazing art exhibit showcasing Ethiopian tribes with body paint in the gallery. (Also, the air conditioning felt effective.)
It is one of the best part of Southwest. It hosts a series different event. Colorful and amazing from inside out. The murals throughout this hidden gem will wow you. Great place to experience for so many reasons.
Went to the hip hop museum. Dress warmly, its cold no heat. Its a nice display of hip hop artists from the 80s and 90s. However theres supposed to be a DJ when it opens at 12noo. We left at 1:30pm still no DJ. And the DJ is also the cashier if you want to buy souvenirs. So not cool no Hip Hop Music to enjoy with my viewing
Loved the experience
Hip hop pop-up shop was amazing. Intimate, yet powerful. Interactive with the turntable and the experience of digging through the crates was truly a pleasure. A must visit for any hip hop aficionado.
I’ve collaborated with this venue for a few events and I’m never ever disappointed. The staff is amazing and the building is definitely historically retro but that’s the beauty of the place.BW is definitely a great spot to host a variety of events and the atmosphere is artsy enough to accommodate a brunch/party or a work happy hour. It’s definitely a DC spot, meaning if you can uber, you’d be better off as far as parking is concerned.
Very cool external shots. Be aware, this location is popular for inconsiderate point-and-shoot photographers. This means you will have people walking in and out of your shot constantly, so you will have to be patient. This shot was stitched together on my phone from there lot. Also, no photos are permitted inside, where there is an open gallery normally.
Went to a listening party here and aesthetically it’s very nice. However, the HVAC needs work. It was so hot in there during the party. There also needs to be signs for restrooms. Overall tho a gem in DC
Very cool, glad to be around young black innovators. The vibe was laid back and welcoming. Its a small space but a its worked beautifully ! Kudos to the owners and everyone making it great
Event was nice but facilities could be easier to navigate with better signage.
Whats to love: a church is now an art gallery! Convert the churches, all of them. Whats to not love so much: the misuse of a performing space.
Its a beautiful building and the people who runs it was very nice 2 thumbs up
The vibe of this venue is soooo cool! The artwork (currently, very creative 80s pieces by Shawn Mitchell Perkins) is phenomenal and the space is funky. If you havent visited, you are missing a DC gem!
A great addition to Southwest. This is an unique art venue in Washington D.C. I love how this old church has been reborn into something amazing. If you are an art lover this a great palce to come to. The outside of the church is painted multicolored and the inside of the church has fantastic paintings. The inside is beautifully decorated and is great for small to large events. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Love the vibe here - a quirky and energetic place with fresh ideas. When I visited, they were showcasing art by women. It was curated really well. This is probably my favourite place in DC. What a gem!
Amazing venue! They had a great exhibit featuring photos from Ethiopia. I loved getting to explore. Definitely a must-see stop while in DC.
Very great use of space for the event attended with efficient support staff!
Wu-Tang exhibit was great. Nice spaces if your looking for a venue to rent out. Shawn always has awesome art events. Check out Art Whino in National Harbor as well.
It is a cool building with interesting exhibits but, in agreement with other reviews, the AC seemed to not be working and boy, was it not in there. The space is small but well set up. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Strange place......old world venue for todays art exhibit s. Needs a lot of work to be a better exhibit hall.
Waste of time. I thought it was a great touristy spot. But nothing to see. The building is old and worn out. Wasnt allowed entry into the building.
Its still in its early stages, the building is still being renovated. So far, theres only a limited number of art works on display. Overall, the vibrant colour of the building seems to be catching attention than the art work displayed in the gallery.
Beautiful installation
A true community center to bring DC together and inspire conversation, fun and Culture (in a House). Plus the art they curate is fire. ;)
Glad I caught it when I did. Blind Whino is such a quirky, cool, hipster type spot so it was perfect location for the pop up HipHop Museum. Wish it was a permanent install here in the city but happy to have had it while it lasted
Not for the faint of heart. Radical even by Washington standards. Reminds me of San Francisco during the hippie invasion of the 60s
Beautiful venue, unique exhibits. Recently attended the launch party for The Hip Hop Museum - created by Listen Vision studios (WLVS) and it was so tastefully curated with incredible artifacts and memorabilia. Not to mention the dancefloors and bar. 11/10 would return
Awesome place to visit. Awful sound system. Poor neighbor relations.
Very nice space. I would definitely consider renting out this a space for a mid size event. There is outdoor space too.
Came here for the hip hop art museum and it was really a great venue. Theres plenty of space and a sizeable lot.
It’s beautiful place to get your instagram pictures front of and its nice area
Went for a wedding reception. Great venue and cool staff. The upstairs chapel room was well done and great for large parties.
Tie-dye church transformed to innovative artsy museum with featuring a hip hop pop-up museum exhibit starting from Jan 2019 (not sure when it ends). In a cozy room, the exhibit encapsulates hip hop artists of the 90s - Notorious BIG, Eminem, Wu-Tang, Snoop Dog, and Tupac, OutKast, etc. with customized display cases featuring memorabilia - records, sneakers, jerseys, shirts, jackets, bobble head dolls/figurines, newspaper articles. The autographed collection of mics was pretty impressive and my favorite item along with the Death Records chair! There was a DJ Sat afternoon spinning records and a speaker in the room next door. Theres also a large event space upstairs with beautiful murals. As the space is cozy, 45 min is more than enough time to comfortably walk through the exhibit and take pics. Theres a small parking lot behind the church and some vibrant murals on surrounding buildings.Although the area is a bit grungy around the outskirts of DC, its a gem and definitely worth checking out!
Came here for a poetry reading, was a great set up and show! They even had a live band that was a great touch
Such a great place love it everytime I come there, really enjoyed the HIP HOP EXHIBIT that is there now!!!
The varied pop up art shows and demos that frequent this venue are mad cool. Always a good time.
Fun venue, chilly!!! Dress warmly. Very hip and urban. Very DC arts scene.
This is a fantastic venue! Super cool inside and out. Its amazing what the community has created here.
Fun art to check out. Good food and beer! Nice place to stop by for a walk around the neighborhood.
Great experience, great art, great community. Amazing way to push the culture forward.
Pop up hip hop museum and qss s quaint and cool. The artwork on the walls upstairs was amazing great space.
Loved this vibrant place! When I visited this place, it was empty and the person there let us wander around inside. There was not a single wall that was left untouched!
Free entrance. Its a must go especially if you like taking pictures for your Instagram account. At the entrance, security asks if you have a DSLR camera; I assume its either not allowed or theres a fee for it. Phone camera is perfectly fine.
Art space venue great vibe and atmosphere
Blind Whino exists to show the world DC is a creative city expanding beyond the bureaucracy of the government. If anyone doubts the quirkiness of DC, head to Waterfront and find the technicolor church. Venture inside to find one of DCs most unique event spaces/art galleries. They rotate art galleries and they pick very local exhibits that represent DC. For example, one exhibit they displayed was a series of photos of a dad and son photographing DC spots wearing an space costume. It;s free to get in and quite the experience!
Wifes holiday party was held here. Good time and great place for the party.
I was there yesterday to receive Toys for Tots theyre from what I seen the place is pretty nice
Only went during the day for the free art. Very interesting independent pieces and I love the technicolor church. Staff was very friendly and informative.
Cool venue inside and out. Got to see the some work from Small Steps are Giant Leaps, and it was great!
Cool place but man oh man... the heat was insufferable... guys please install an AC. I thought I’d die in there.
Saw an amazing exhibit, took some cool photos near the graffiti wall and met Tabi Bonney.
BEAUTIFUL structure with even more art inside. Great venue for parties and networking events.
Nice place I would recommend this place
Awesome hidden gem! Great shows and really support the community.
Fun event space. Great relaunch party for DCist.
Awesome place. Andrew Katz HIP-HOP exhibit is a beast!!
Creepy please!
I absolutely LOVE this space. Its perfect for a party, provate dinner, and yoga!
The neighborhood made me a little nervous, but it was well worth it to snap some photos of this beautiful building
Dope space and decor. The exhibits were inspiring.
Enjoyable popup museum on hip hops history.
Great venue to view some of the best artwork in the city as well as throw events
Great art space and event spot. Free yoga on Wednesday.
Unique place to hold events when ts not used for art exhibition.
Whimsical event space, beautifully decorated inside & out. Parking can be tough.
I really enjoyed the environment as well as the art work it was super nice. Def a dope venue!
Place is ok but the upkeep is below standard. Needs to get a thorough cleaning, lots and lots of dust.
