We recently made the switch over to Allstate with the Colligan Agency. We are very pleased with their professionalism, knowledge, and friendliness. We look forward to also switching over our business insurance when were advised its time! We will also be securing a life insurance policy which was prepared and offered to us without even asking! Full disclosure: Better record keeping on my part would have caught the error sooner; However, I believe the local agent’s and the company’s response merits a warning to other consumers.I had motorcycle insurance through Allstate with a local agent (Machelle) (Not a typo), beginning several years ago. In February of 2016, I got a new bike and requested that coverage of my old bike be stopped at the end of the month. In March of 2016 my credit card information changed and in April I received a call requesting payment. At this time I was explicitly told that the second bike had been removed from the plan and I was only paying for the 1st bike. I said ok and absentmindedly paid the bill, resumed automatic payments and forgot about it. In February of 2017 my credit card was stolen and I received a call a month later requesting payment for my policy covering both bikes.At this point I called the local agent (Machelle) who told me it was my fault the bike hadn’t been removed since I didn’t catch it earlier, despite two phone conversations where I was thoroughly reassured that this had taken place. I called the national office who told me that without a bill of sale proving I sold the bike, they were unwilling to compensate me for the error in any way.The price was right for the insurance, but this experience went wrong in so many ways. What if I had a wreck and they had somehow messed up and never initiated proper coverage—Would they then leave me hanging? People make mistakes—good people correct them. I feel the mistake made was kind of large, but the response of refusing to correct it in any way is extremely disappointing—not to mention Machelle’s rude and condescending attitude.
Machelle has been an absolute pleasure to work with. She is professional and kind, and fantastic at what she does! She got us the lowest rate around. We use her for all of our insurance needs, whether business or personal. We recommend her to everyone!
