My son started Sylvan for reading because not only was he behind and having trouble with normal class but also because he has dyslexia. I wasnt happy with the progress he was making in school and with his dyslexia program so I wanted him to have some extra help with everything from phonics to fluency. Not only has he made gains academically but he has also found confidence. Sylvan has made reading not such a chore but something he does automatically. He loves the prize wall and getting to choose a prize. The prizes are his incentive for doing well on the lessons.I love how open the staff is with everything and they are always on top of how he is doing, what needs to come next, and what progress he has made. Dan makes scheduling very easy and convenient. The office staff is very sweet and always greets us on the way in.
I brought my sister to Sylvan when she started to struggle to keep up with her classmates. Although she is smart, she just wasnt able to understand the curriculum the way her teacher would explain it in class. The center has a warm and comfortable atmosphere for the children to get help in. I like the ratio of 1 teacher to 3 students. It allows my sister to get individual attention, but then prove that she understands the work every class. Before Sylvan, my sister didnt like to read and that made her reading level decrease. Since she has been attending Sylvan her reading has improved, and I have also noticed a change in her confidence, this alone has already made the cost of her program worth it! My sister will now raise her hand in class and actively engage, something she wouldnt do before because she was embarrassed that she did not get it like the other kids. All of the staff is great but Miss Rachel is was what really sold me on the place. She had answers to every single question I had and explained exactly what I could expect from Sylvan. The teachers are qualified! I am comfortable with Sylvan because I get an update on my sisters progress every few weeks. I am so happy we chose Sylvan!
Praises for Sylvan Learning Center of Waco! My son is participating in the Advanced Study Skills program in preparation for high school and it has been EXCELLENT . . . just what he needed! This was determined by an initial meeting with the director, intake testing and a formal meeting to discuss his results. His program was designed specifically for him, is flexible depending on areas of strength or challenge and includes homework support. He has gained confidence and his grades reflect his investment in the program and ours. It is not inexpensive but it is professional, personalized and a proven method for creating successful students. Every teacher here is certified, engaging and clearly enjoys the work they are doing with the students - kudos to each of them! The director, Katie, is phenomenal! She is personally aware of and invested in every student, communicates exceptionally well and provides abundant feedback and encouragement. Formal meetings are scheduled regularly to discuss the students progress and to adjust the program as needed based on data produced from his performance. Additional meetings are always welcomed, in fact encouraged, if needed. I inquired about Sylvan on the advice of a friend but had no real understanding of what it was or how it worked. I am so thankful I did! It has exceeded every expectation and I can recommend it without hesitation. If I ever wonder if it is worth it (which I havent, but . . . if I did), I would only need to look at my student before and after Sylvan. It is worth it!
I enrolled my daughter into their ACT prep program, and we had a very positive experience. Being able to finance the cost was extremely helpful as well. In my opinion it was worth the cost of the course as she ultimately raised her score by 6 points, and even on her first attempt she had improved by 4 points. The director was very proactive, the extra web based materials were a big help, and she had only good things to say about her instructors. Recommended.
I have taken all of my children to Sylvan throughout the years and have found it to be the fastest, surest way to get them the help they need. My son needed a summer for reading help, my oldest used homework help for math - specifically algebra. My youngest has special learning needs and in addition to homeschooling, is making great strides in reading and writing with her hours at Sylvan. Her favorite teacher is Pam. Every instructor including the boss is an excellent, personable teacher who gives written feedback on your childs daily progress which is discussed with you every month. My child gets praise, tokens and toys/rewards for all her hard work. I am very happy with Sylvan and trust them completely.
Katie was fantastic. I came in to take a test for Western Governors University and was pretty nervous and her friendly professional attitude really calmed me down. Facility was clean and well equipped and easy to get to. I plan on having the rest of my tests proctored there, much simpler than doing it online with the webcam and restrictions they have.
My child has been a student coming to Sylvan now for 3 years. Chrissy, Katie, and Tonya were great!! Now, my son does not want to.come back because all the teachers and administrators are gone that he really liked working well. Get rid of the new owner!! Bring back Tonya or Chrissy. Maybe make Caroline the administrator if she is still there??!! Feels like a sterile doctors office now. Move it back in town!! Who keeps changing the hours students can be seen???
Great place!
Sylvan is awesome! The teachers are great with the kids and the staff really cares about the value of the program. They guarantee what they say they can achieve with your kids grades - where else are you gonna get that? My high schooler has issues with organization and study skills and Rachel, the director, is helping her with those issues. I highly recommend Sylvan!
Our son has been receiving services since April at Sylvan in Waco. Everyone has been so wonderful and kind to him and to us. We are so thankful for these wonderful, caring people who truly have helped our son become more successful academically.Thank you to everyone,Laura and Barry Shank
When my husband was deployed to Cuba and my Dad was diagnosed with lymphoma, our daughter, Elizabeth, world started to full apart. Her grades started to fall and I was concerned about the STARR test. Thank God, that I personally knew Rachel. She assured me that they could help Elizabeth. They helped her in Math and Reading. Elizabeths confidence slowly started to return. She now enjoys Reading and likes Math. Elizabeth is now a fifth grader and is making all As. Sylvan is awesome! I highly recommend Sylvan!
Sylvan has been an answered prayer for my three boys. When I first sought their help out I was taken back by the prices, but Im here to tell you its worth every single penny!! The directors are the main ones I correspond with and they are always very friendly & helpful in making sure I understand whatever it is I might not be sure about. All 3 of my boys tested way behind initially, but over the course of their learning two of my boys went much further then I ever imagined and are finally making the honor roll. Their self confidence is up, they dont mind homework anymore. The directors are really good about keeping in touch with the teachers which I think is a plus. If that isnt enough ... they offer incentives to the boys for their effort in learning and following directions. So for me its been a win win all the way around!!! My third child is still attending because hes in a higher grade level ... so in turn needed a lil extra time & help ....but he has made leaps & bounds himself ... it wont be too much longer and he will be making the honor as well!!!!
My sweet Mia was testing a full grade behind when she started at Mia. Wed tried everything we could at school, including being pulled with a small group. I was beside myself and didnt have a clue where to go to help. Chrissy reached out and promised they would do everything they could to get her to where she needed to be. Mia started in Novemeber and as of January, she tested a full grade further than when she started. Sylvans created a lesson that catered to Mias needs and I am so impressed with the results. She loves going to learn and the tokens are a great reward. Ive recommended Sylvans to anyone who has a child in need and I mean it when I say, this place rocks!!
It works :)!! I recommend Sylan Learning to all my family and friends. The investment in my son was worth every penny.
My daughter has gained so much confidence in her ability to learn since being at sylvan. She was starting to lose interest in learning due to her struggles, but that has all changed over the past few weeks. Thank you Sylvan!
Sylvan has helped my child gain confidence and improve in her reading skills. The staff there is very helpful.
Sylvan has made all the difference for my daughter. When she started, she suffered low self esteem from falling behind at school, she did not pass the Staar test and she struggled, taking 1-3 hours to complete homework. Upon 2 weeks of tutoring at Sylvan, her grades improved, she was able to complete homework in 15 minutes and she passed the fifth grade Staar test with flying colors! Thank you Sylvan! Thank you Chrissy and Kelsey! I highly recommend Sylvan!
Im reviewing Identogo which is located inside this business. Lets start. Is there a 0 star button. They should really make one. This business is broken from the top down. Lets start with the technician. A loose term for the person smashing youre finger into some print reader. This person had little customer service experience, but that could have been overlooked Id it wasnt for what happened next. She printed the card and had me check the info. It was wrong. When I asked to fix it she proclaimed that it was not going to happen. She had printed. It was done. She then proceeded to hit the finish button. When I voiced my opinion she told me there was nothing that could be done. All I could do was make a new appointment and pay the money again to get it right. Fine. I left and made another appointment. Before my second appointment I decided to call customer service. That didnt go well either. The representative had an attitude and blamed me for the mistake. I explained what happened and she relayed the information to her manager. Then she told us that it wasnt their problem and that we would have to repay to fix the issue. Clearly talking to her want getting us anywhere, so we asked to speak to the same supervisor. The representative explained that the supervisor was too busy to speak to us and that we would have to leave a message. Eventually the supervisor would get in touch with you. Fat chance. I demanded to speak to her immediately, rejecting the notion of speaking to a machine. Finally I was transfers, but she doesnt answer. Im on hold for several minutes until the phone is hung up.Customer service has no clue how to help, but more importantly they didnt care to help. We were a pest to them and they swatted at us.Do not use this company, at least not in waco.
The teachers work one on one with my grandchild or no more than one on three.i liked the 10 tips to keep my child focused.i have seen great improvement .
She enjoys going and learning new things also more confident in herself!
There identogo in this building is horrible, wouldnt take my card then told me to get a money order for the wrong amount then told me she couldnt take it because it was the wrong amount, sooo had to get another money order and came back and they were closed for an hour. This place is a joke.
I am really happy with progress my son is making in Math due to Sylvan Learning Center.
Thanks Mr. Joseph
I love it it teach students
