I cannot describe how much my family has enjoyed the experience that we have encountered at North County Self Defense. We Started attending the dodo in 2010 when my son was only 6 years old. He would attend classes with is uncle who had been involved for many years prior. I have attended kickboxing classes here that will kick your butt. (an awesome workout) My 7-year-old daughter loves every minute she spends here. This place is truly a family orientated environment. The owners and all of the staff are amazing people that I completely admire and trust to teach my children confidence, effort, responsibility, and respect. If ever you are seeking a safe and nurturing environment, this is the place to be.

Im really glad I enrolled my child with them. They have excellent experience and knowledge in teaching the arts of self defence. Very family oriented environment and great with young children. They base a lot of their classes on dealing with bullies as well as the dangers of strangers and child abduction

North County Self Defense has been a great experience for my 10 year old grandson. He has been taking classes for over a year and has not lost any enthusiasm to attend classes every week. The instructors are very supportive and the kids have fun while learning. NCSD has helped my grandson develop the 4 Cs - Character, Confidence, Camaraderie, and Cooperation.

We love this place! Sensei William and all of the instructors are s good with the kids and welcoming to families. They combine skills with fun for a great learning environment. I highly recommend!

I have been a student of North County Self Defense for six years now, coming to this school originally for self confidence and mainly, to get healthy. I have had such a positive experience that I persuaded my entire family to be a part of this family-friendly and wonderful environment, including very young nieces and nephews. The training I just received, Self-Defense in the Event of an Active Shooter, is 90 minutes of usable, essential, real-world information on how to survive the unthinkable. The instructors, William and Sarah, make a great team. Both are very insightful and patient with questions and scenarios. I walked away with a page of notes, but more importantly - a wealth of knowledge to share with my family, friends and co-workers. North County Self Defense is first-rate!

I have trained with Master Moss for almost 20 years.All the instructors are very interested in the individual goals of all students, and it is a safe place to learn.Not only do I train there, but my son went through both programs for kids and adults to receive his Black Belt. The training has helped him with focusing in school and work. Great job guys!

At North County Self Defence they are very experienced teachers and staff who are caring, professional and whom the kids respond well to. My son, who is now five, has been going to Little Ninjas class for a year. He has lots of fun and is more confident and balanced. He always looks forward to the next class or test.

I have been associated with North County Self Defense for over 10 years, and am so proud of their professionalism, knowledge, positivity, and love for what they do, their students, and the community. Free womens self-defense seminars are offered on a monthly basis, they support and educate children in enrichment classes in Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, and San Marcos school districts and my son is self motivated to accomplish his weekly responsibility sheet, which is checked at every class. His responsibility sheet includes personal hygiene, household chores, respect for his authorities, schoolwork/homework and any other personal areas of improvement. The instructors are very knowledgable and supportive and the owner has over 25 years experience as an instructor and over 40 years experience in the martial arts. This is a very positive, disciplined and supportive family environment and I highly recommend this school to anyone up for the challenge of becoming a better person.

The worked with my daughter who was shy, they worked with her as best as they could. I have to say Sarah was amazing with her. Even with some confusion they did their best to solve it.Two thumbs up

I initially was invited to NCSD to try out a free class for my 3 y/o son. My son is kind and loving, but had a bit more difficulty focusing, listening, staying still than other children. When we entered the school, we were welcomed and made to feel comfortable. The instructor was so patient, kind, and understanding for my son. After only a few weeks, I could see the positive changes in my son... he was doing so well that I decided that Id put my 2 y/o daughter in the classes too. Now, at only 4 and 5 y/o, they pick up their toys, brush their teeth, clear their plates, etc. without me asking. They do a great job at listening to instruction and being respectful. I am really impressed with level of skill and professionalism of all the instructors.I even started taking classes here and have been for almost 2 years. I love the high-energy classes and the invaluable training I have received. This is a great school and I wholeheartedly would recommend NCSD to anyone I know!

We have had an amazing experience at NCSD. The instructors and classes are wonderful, and so is the environment. William Moss keeps my son engaged, motivated and respectful during class and eager to do his best not only in karate, but school and home life as well. I couldnt be happier.

I have nothing but positive things to say about this dojo and the instructors. From the day we first walked in over a year ago everyone has treated our whole family as their family. The instructors are compassionate toward their charges and passionate of the martial arts. Truth is I wish everyone I know could practice here!

North County Self Defense is so good on so many levels. Shihan Moss is a powerful presence and created a welcoming, encouraging, productive — and fun — dojo for us here in North County. The instructors are caring, highly skilled, and great teachers who make you want to do well and learn more. They are especially good with kids, and warmly encourage character development in addition to the skills of martial arts/self-defense. The students who attend — a wide-range of beautiful folks — are fun to be around and clearly share a love of the dojo. Shihan Moss is also very community-oriented, which is awesome to see in a business. About three years into kempo karate classes, special training like active shooter scenarios and other offerings, I can say I am much better equipped to take care of myself and those around me. The overall training is good discipline mentally, physically, and spiritually. This is good practice, and this place is the real deal. You will likely LOVE North County Self Defense if you give it a try!

I spent a long time trying to find a Dojo that I like. A friend recommended I try Krav Maga, and I have not been disappointed! The emphasis is on practical self defense, situational awareness, and fighting spirit. Combined with a new gym routine I’ve lost a ton of weight, learned practical skills for self defense, and my endurance and confidence in threatening situations is rock solid! Sensei William is approachable and knows his business well. Best of all he’s very good at challenging everyone at their level, experienced practitioners and beginners can learn and be challenged together. While the evening classes can be crowded, mornings are small enough size to get a lot of individual attention but also spar with a few regulars.

Ive had the best experience at the school and the instructors are awesome. The school has a family type environment and is very welcoming and the instructors are very helpfull and are great instructors with the kids class and adult class. Ive been with the school for 18 years and everything I see is positive in every class I attend and watch. All the kids and adults love the school because of the high quality training we recive from our awesome instructors.

My child did not feel comfortable during the initial meet and greet. Instructor mumbles at best and the excessive blinking was distracting to me as a parent. Did not get a good solid vibe from this place.

My son has gone to NCSD for several years. The reason I started him there was to learn how to fight or even to defend himself. Those were just added bonuses. The reason I started him there was to become more disciplined and appreciative of the little things that life offered. He was not happy at the start of his training. Initially he thought the training was tough and there were too many RULES! LOL However, over time he became better! More skilled with his movements, stronger and faster. Most importantly, he became disciplined and an overall better person. His grades improved and he started using words like Yes (vice yeah) and Sir and Maam more frequently. While there are a few (you cant please everyone) that may have unrealistic expectations or perceptions of the dojo or instructors (Masters Moss and Ellis), I applaud them for transforming individuals into upstanding members of society. My son became one!

They have it all kids kempo, youth kempo,adult kempo, kickboxing and Krav Maga. They teach in a unique way that you cannot compare to any another school around. They ask you what your goal is and what you are looking to get out of the class. You are important to them as a student, everyone makes you feel like your family. Amazing instructors and staff that always greet you and update you of your individual or your childs progress. They keep you and the kids motivated, aware of anything and everything and most important very happy.

William is an outstanding, professional instructor. This school offers all types of classes to meet the needs of a wide variety of people.
