So I’ve been going to this academy for about a month doing combat submission wrestling. And am shocked of how much I’ve learned and have been able to retain in such a short amount of time. The teaching here is one of a kind. Whether you are looking to lose weight, learn self defense or plan on pursuing MMA you won’t be upset with choosing this academy. Everyone here is very nice and respectful and we all push each other to get better. Being a former Marine the I feel like I’m apart of something again. I have already recommended this academy to all of my friends so try it out

I came across eastern academy when looking for a place to train with my dad. I was looking for real applicable training for real life events and an outlet, and that’s exactly what I got! Waseih is an amazing instructor who always puts emphasis on the health and safety of his students. I am in the CSW/MMA class and have gotten to meet everyone from all of his classes, and everyone is there to improve and help others improve. Training days are the highlight of my week and ever since starting I feel more in control of my emotions and how I respond to stress. The workout is amazing every class and the value of everything he teaches can very well save your life one day if it’s ever needed. I plan on staying at EAMMA to train for a while and couldn’t be more excited about being a part of his classes. If you’re looking for a place to train, look no further. EAMMA is an amazing environment with amazing people.

I absolutely love it here!!! I train in the MMA/CSW program. Everyone you meet here, no matter what program they do, is super nice and super helpful. Wahsei is an awesome Kru and an amazing person. I grew up training and when I became a father I fell away from it as my sons needed me more. They’re older now and really needed an outlet for their stress and frustration that life throws at them. One of them currently trains here and soon a second one will be training here too. We both love it. Great environment, superb instruction, and you quickly realize that you are welcome. Everyone wants you to get better. The instruction that Wahsei provides is taught perfectly and patiently to make sure you get it right. It’s awakened and old love of mine, and being able to do it with my son makes it even better!! It’s a real stress reliever, it’s excellent exercise, and quickly becomes addicting. When we first met with Wahsei, I walked out and told my sons “we need to train here”. His values, his discipline, and his overall general demeanor reminds me of my training when I was younger. That training back then changed my life (total 180) and training now has already made a huge impact on my son’s life. We love going to train and having to miss it for any reason kills us. I’ve been training here for about 3 months now. Before stepping foot in this dojo my health was going to hell and I was having trouble losing weight on my own. I’ve learned a lot from Sensei Miran and thanks to him pushing me and mentoring me along the way, I’ve lost 13 pounds and feel like I can go places I never thought possible. I always wanted to do Muay Thai so, I did my research and went to some schools in VB, but as soon as I entered the EA MMA, I felt like it was the right place to practice it and I was not wrong. Wahsei is a great teacher, passionate about martial arts, and he cares for the safety of his students. This place is all about the essence of the sport. Also, it is the most clean place I have seen. As soon as training is done, everybody cleans everything. If you are thinking about practicing martial arts, definitely try EA MMA.

Eastern academy is a great school. I’ve been taking Muay Thai for 3 months and the coaches and students are all very patient and accepting. All of the students that spar have good control of their power. And the instructors will show you where you need to improve. I started February and have learned so much physically and mentally. 2020 was a rough year, but these Muay Thai classes have been helping me with so many things - especially the battles I have within myself. I’ve been going to EAMMA for only 2 months now and honestly, I’ve already seen such a change in myself. In my drive, in my energy, in my confidence. I feel myself getting stronger, Wahsei inspires me to push myself every moment I’m there. I get excited to learn more each and every day there’s training. I despise going to the gym, it’s an effort to go there, to do the workouts, and it never feels like I did enough when I leave. It couldn’t be any more opposite than it is. I’m excited to get there, to work my butt off, and even when I’m SO SORE the next day, I’m feeling so accomplished. Highly recommend EAMMA.

Started coming here a little over a month ago and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! Not only is Mr. Miran a great and professional teacher, he runs a very personable business where you can make good friends. Learn a lot, get in shape, feel at home.

You really get a lot of great technical advice on form and strategy from this place, not to mention the fact that this gym has a very diverse population. What I really appreciate about this gym is the atmosphere of respect and discipline. Ive been to other gyms where thats pretty much absent and theres a lot of unprofessionalism on the part of the staff. You wont find such a thing here at EAMMA. Its especially great that you feel great when you leave the gym.Overall when you step into this gym you know good and well youre in a different environment from your everyday routine. This gym will really work you, challenge you, reward you, and is above all safety first. I most of all appreciate Wahseis authenticity. He lets you know whats up and looks out for his students.Something to also consider is how responsible this gym has been with regards to COVID-19. This gym takes your temperature at the door and refuses to let anyone in who has symptoms of a fever or chills. Thats been absent at a lot of gyms Ive been to.

5 stars is not enough! My kids have been going for over a year and have learned and absorbed so much. Wuhsei is a great instructor and does an amazing job with both the children and the adults. I started going to classes about 2 months ago and I am very impressed with the adult training. Both my kids and I have learned so much! Wuhsei is the perfect combination of patience, strictness and high attention to detail with each student in the class. If we ever have to move, I don’t think we will ever find a gym that compares to this one. I highly recommend that you check it out!!👍👍👍

EAMMA is an excellent place to study martial arts. Mr. Miran is an excellent instructor and ensures his students learn and perfect techniques, not when they get it right, but when they cant get it wrong. At any level or experience you may have, Mr. Miran is able to tailor the instruction to the end user. If you are looking for a cookie cutter martial arts studio, or one to make you sub-par fighter, this is not the place for you. The only form of instruction you will receive from this studio is quality. Furthermore, the facilities are clean and sanitary, with updated equipment.

WOW!! I had such a great experience in sparring/workout Wednesday I highly recommend Eastern Academy of mixed martial arts to all ages. Whether you are looking for a work out to push you a self-defense art or just being around great people. I’ve been taking classes (Muay Thai and Jiu-Jistu) and I have learned a lot. It’s a very professional setting with a very good and friendly quality of people. I love this gym! The instructors really care about you and your progress. Whether youre just trying to get in shape or learn how to defend yourself this is an excellent place to train! Wahsei, the owner, is an awesome martial artist and coach. Hes not the type to sit back and have you punch bags all class. No matter which class you are in, him and his instructors will demonstrate every technique and coach each and every person in the gym until everyone understands what he is teaching. Very good adult class for beginners to experts. I absolutely had no martial arts experience but I feel like I am progressing and improving. Be ready to commit some time and make this a part of your schedule or routine, if you really want to see results. Definitely recommend using the Groupon so you can check out the different classes, before you commit. Also look at the schedule and make sure that you can do it before you sign up. It is a pretty set schedule from my experience. They have really good kids classes there as well, very disciplined and respect oriented. The kids class is very impressive to watch as well.

I can’t say enough positive things about Eastern Academy of M.M.A.! My son absolutely loves it and has developed self-confidence, discipline, increased physical fitness, and made new friends. Wahsei Miran is the best! He is very knowledgeable and dedicated to making sure his students learn the skills and develop a sense of confidence. He holds his students accountable, and demands personal responsibility. His students actually earn their stripes and belts! It’s also great to know that my son is learning self-defense and life skills. He was recently attacked by another student at his school and was able to successfully defend himself. Im a beginner in martial arts and started this gym a month ago and plan on staying. Muay Thai is a great workout for men and women of all ages. Nice and clean gym that offers all martial arts. If you want be good at a martial art you will here. The instructor/owner is a passionate instructor who is proficient and extremely knowledgeable in all the martial arts he teaches. He will work with you personally should you need extra help and he will push you at your own pace. The environment is great with all students, they are all very friendly including all the senior students. Everyday you leave class you will either have learned something new, pushed passed your own personal limit, and you will leave feeling empowered and proud of yourself every class.

Great academy. Would never train anywhere else else as long as I am in Va Beach. Kru Miran is a Patient, firm, smart and gifted instructor. I was looking for a place where I could build confidence, technique, and condition. But seeing how a lot of instructors and students of martial arts schools acted while growing up has kept me from really attempting to get into it. This academy has done an amazing job making me feel like family the first day. People are always willing to help even if you are struggling with something. The instructor does an amazing job of teaching new techniques in a way everyone can understand and is willing to slow down or speed up depending on your progress. Hands down the best school around.im almost 40 and I try to go to as many classes a week in several styles.you wanna be more prepared for real life horror.my youth I was the tough guy time which is a weakness. But now I feel safe,not helpless and hopeless. I dont need to fight to prove anything.but if I have to i feel street ready in my 2 years at the academy. All the styles are very effective in 0my opinion .I could write all day but come by.JKD and Filipino martial arts are by far my favorite but if that s not you there are great styles the blend well together .

For someone like me who came along with no experience in any form of martial arts, let alone self defense, I would HIGHLY recommend this school! As someone who had no previous experience with martial arts, I had no idea what to expect coming into the Muay Thai program at Eastern Academy of Mixed Martial Arts. But this is the most personal and engaging environment I could have hoped for. I have been training here for two months now. I did not start because I wanted to learn to fight. I was overweight and wanted to be healthy. I have lost over 25 pounds already with class and eating correctly. This academy is not designed to hurt you but only help you become the better version of yourself. I go 3 times a week and every class has been different. It is as challenging as you want it to be. I am very happy and excited for the next class to start.

I have been training mma for about 5 years. I have competed 10 times and lost or got a draw on all of them. Under Mr. Wahesis instruction i feel he is giving me the missing pieces and important details Im am missing. The instructors are very detail and care about how you progress and if you are getting what you need to be successful at the martial art you choose. Its not like an assembly line just drill and hopefully you can keep up. Its an education of the art you choose. I highly recommend to anybody that wants to get their child in martial arts, someone who is serious about training, or to older guys like me who feel they still have something left in them to compete.

I started here in the first week of February and I am absolutely in love. Not only did the teachers make me feel comfortable but my fellow students were incredibly welcoming. Hands down some of the best training I have received. Wahsei cares about his students and takes the time to modify his instruction to each of their individual abilities. I have trained elsewhere and if you want to trade dollars for belts go ahead but if you want to actually learn how to fight or defend yourself or just to get into great shape Eastern Academy is a great place to train.

My kids started training BJJ in another state. My priority when we relocated to Hampton Roads was to get them back into a high caliber gym. We decided to try a Gracie program for its prestige and worldwide recognition. However after a few months, I found myself disappointed. That is when I decided to sit in on a few kids classes at EAMMA where I had recently enrolled in Muay Thai classes. I quickly realized that my kids were going to truly learn in this small, unassuming gym without franchise colors and curriculum. The gym with the dedicated, passionate Teacher/owner carefully crafting the curriculum from his 30+ years of experience in BJJ, JKD, Kali, Muay Thai, CSW. The little gym whose walls are covered in photos of the grandmaster with the coach when he was in his teens and pictures of Coach cornering his students at competitions. Coach Washei is personally vested in each and everyone of his students. He has a tremendous ability to catch things while having multiple students participating in the class. He will stop and make sure that everyone is understanding the technique and able to demonstrate it before moving on. He is a detail oriented teacher that will present the material in two or three different ways if needed because he understands and respects the various ways in which we all learn.I highly recommend this gym for anyone who wants their kids to learn BJJ or stand up self defense ( the two youth programs currently offered).Martial Arts at this age is an investment in your kids character development and real life application of self defense. Dont settle for a name or look. Dont be wowed by fast paced belt promotions. Scratch the surface, do your homework on the instructor, talk to the adult students ( and notice where they have their kids enrolled).go check out EAMMA and see what a tremendous place it is.

Ive been training Gracie jiujitsu self defense with Wahsei for a couple months and I love it! Ive always thought I had to be fit to defend myself but hes showing me how to just use leverage to pick people bigger than me up & even toss them. Im also learning how to escape holds & break a fall. I feel more confident every time I go, and Ive been recommending him & this class to everyone I know.

I have been taking muay thai and jiu jitsu classes for about 2 months now and am extremely happy with the progress I am making. I am in way better shape and am improving every class. This is thanks to mr. Miran who is very passionate about his teaching and it shows in the quality of his students.

Hands down the best school in the area for high level training in all aspects of the art. Mr. Wahsei is not only a respecter of all skillful and practical applications of martial arts, but will also take the time to teach the tradition and culture of them - which most instructors today wont take the time to do anymore. He bends over backwards to help me personally and ensure I get the best training possible, and theres no question he wont do the same for you. The students here are one big family, and you cant help but have so much fun, all while you are learning skills that may save your or someone elses life one day. Come in and get your fight on!

EAMMA has been nothing but AMAZING. I have recommended this place to friends, coworkers and complete strangers. I woke up one day wanting to learn how to defend myself and came across this wonderful academy that makes you feel welcomed. All of the instructors do great job working with students getting them to better themselves physically and mentally. They are extremely knowledgeable about techniques and curriculum for this sport. I have only attended 4 classes and it has been awesome. The teachers know what they a doing and they teach with positive reinforcement. I never leave class feeling disappointed in myself.

Eastern Academy is an outstanding MMA gym with top-notch instruction! The owner and main instructor is a highly talented mixed martial artist with nearly 30 years of experience. He has earned instructorship level in multiple martial arts under some of the top names in each discipline. I have been training on and off in martial arts for many years. Prior to starting at any school, I do lots of research and seek out the best schools wherever I live. Eastern Academy is definitely one of the best. The school itself is large, has tons of training equipment, is well-maintained, and very clean. The atmosphere is great! Everyone is highly professional and friendly where all students no matter what rank help each other to Increase their skills. I signed my daughter up and she loves it as well. I recommend this school to anyone wanting to learn MMA, increase their self-defense skills, become a fighter, or just get in better shape!

Hello everyone! How are you all doing? I would like to leave a review of the best of the best mixed martial arts in Hampton Roads! My son started to go there in summer 2017 when he was 4 years old. He has been so happy and looking forward to going there. Also, he has improved his skills about English because his first language is Russian, how to be more patient, respect and listen all adults, grateful and to protect himself. My son and I love the atmosphere over there. Mr. Wahsei is a very knowledgeable and professional. All kids love, respect and thankful him. I cant recommend this place highly enough! I have been training in martial arts for the better part of my life. Between the Army and the Police Department, I feel I have a firm base to work with when it comes to self defense. What Ive learned in the time Ive been training at Eastern Academy has opened my knowledge to a whole new world.Instructor Miran is a very proficient practitioner of several martial arts but, and more importantly, he is a very patient and thorough instructor. Not only does he have a depth of knowledge that I find absolutely amazing (the details change the game when it comes to BJJ) but his actual method of instruction surpasses the instructors Ive had before him. He has perfected teaching the material and fine tuned it over years of practice. You can tell hes passionate about his profession and the big selling point for me, and the reason I chose his school over all of the others, is his astounding knowledge of the history of his martial arts. From Brazilian Jujutsu to Jeet Kune Do, he can trace his lineage and the lineage of those who started the individual forms to their founder all the way to its newest practitioners of note. I could sit at a desk and simply learn that and be happy with my commitment to the school but that is not his style. He has a very dynamic and engaging system that keeps you involved for every minute of class.My son is 13 years old and attends classes with me. Hes never been particularly passionate about any activities hes been involved with but he loves Eastern Academy and its staff. He has taken to it with an enthusiasm Ive never seen him show for anything else. When we arrive early, I have the pleasure of watching Instructor Miran and his staff teach the young childrens class and its truly fun to watch. While the kids laugh and appear to be simply wrestling around, they are learning the fundamentals of BJJ in a very subtle and organized way (Its the only class Ive seen but I hazard that theyre all like that.)My favorite aspect of the class, its most important aspect in my personal opinion, are the people. Never have I joined any activity or group and been made to feel so welcome so very fast. I believe that this is why my son and i have taken to it the way we have. I have been to several academies in the past and found many of them to be ego driven practitioners in a constant state of trying to determine who the alpha is. That is absolutely not the case here. Everyone wants to help each other as much as possible and in a short time weve grown to know each other like a small family. We celebrate our victories together and nurse our defeats together and i wouldnt trade it for any other school.In summary, if youre looking for an academy, I highly recommend that you check into Eastern Academy as its a family friendly place that creates practitioners that are technically and tactically proficient yet devoid of hubris and aggression. The very thing I was looking for.

Have been attending the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday with only rare exceptions for the past two years. The culture of Eastern Academy is outstanding, with safety and respect for martial arts traditions valued much higher than pursuing individual glory/accolades at any cost. Would highly recommend the school to anyone.

I attended this academy for about 8 months 3 of which i missed due to scheduling, recovery and so forth but in that short amount of time i was able to learn and apply a big majority of sensei mirans teachings, i took his CSW classes and it was hands down one my BEST experiences and decisions, every day we learned something different, the classes were fun and we broke a sweat always and class was never overboard, i loved that when sensei miran would teach us it was always technique over muscle which was exactly what i was looking for, i give this place a 5 star because i believe if you live in the 757 and you want to be the best version of yourself this is where you want to be, i recomend this place to everyoneCONS: could only think of 2, 1. Csw is only 3 times a week and thats just so sad lol2. Sometimes there is to much story time lol

I have been a member of Eastern Academy for about 7 months, and absolutely love it. I trained Muay Thai previously at another facility, but had to find a new gym due to scheduling conflicts, and I am truly glad I found EAMMA. There are many different classes offered both day and night, so finding something that fits your schedule should not be a problem. Each class is different, so you never get bored. As far as the people go, I have not met anyone I do not like. Everyone is extremely friendly, and welcoming. The instructors are all caring and compassionate, and will take the time to correct mistakes and break every move down to the smallest details if need be.

Whether theres 10 people in the class or youre the only one, the same hands on training with personal investment in your growth as a martial artist. Highly recommend for people of all experience levels.

I have been studying at Eastern Academy for about three months in the mixed martial arts/combat submission wrestling (MMA/CSW) class, and I can say with confidence that you will have a hard time finding a better MMA gym. All of the instructors have a wealth of experience and knowledge, and they are very hands-on with student development. You can expect to have your questions answered and a solid workout every time you go to the gym.There is regular sparring to help apply everything you learn, and it is done with the utmost care and respect. They have quality instruction or people at every age and skill level, from kids classes to adults attempting amateur competition. If you really want to learn martial arts, you will not leave disappointed.

I want to take a moment to express my appreciation, gratitude, and respect for Professor Miran and EAMMA. I found EAMMA while looking for a school for my boys to train. I have both of my boys (6 and 9) in EAMMA’s Muay Thai program, and my 9yo is also in the BJJ program. I could not be more impressed.I have always tried to maintain a high level of fitness and have trained at many gyms and martial arts schools over the years—and maintain a great deal of respect for them all. When I started my boys at EAMMA I had high standards and expectations. EAMMA has far surpassed any of my expectations.Professor Miran is the real deal. He is a top level instructor and competitor. He has been trained by legendary instructors/competitors in every discipline/style—BJJ, JKD, CSW, Muay Thai, just to name a few—and Professor Miran has reached a high degree of expertise in all. To look at his wall of pictures and degrees is to look at the history of martial arts and is truly impressive.After taking my boys to and from class over the past year, I decided to start training full time at EAMMA myself. I have always tried to maintain a high level of fitness, but also wanted to get back to training BJJ on a more regular basis. There are enough black belt instructors in the Muay Thai class to give all the kids individual instruction. EAMMA is not a belt-factory. So Insanely proud of my husband for receiving his black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu yesterday at Eastern academy of MMA in va beach! Over 10 long years of commitment and dedication, with challenges of staying committed with work and family and he’ll tell you “I still have so much more to learn and grow” but I couldn’t be happier with the school he’s earned this with. And now both my sons will grow up learning at the same martial arts school. The positive attitude, confidence and discipline I’ve seen in Caleb when he’s walking into the school and during class, showing support to his classmates is so adorable and rewarding to see. Its going on to about 3 weeks since Ive joined and I have to say that I love it here already. I come from another gym that, well once I came here I knew Ive come to a better place. Our instructor really works with you on the smallest details to help you improve with your training. Everything is here, the dicipline, knowledge, training. Im taking the BJJ and Muay Thai classes and theyre awesome. Its a friendly atmosphere and everyone helps you get to where you want to be whether you ask or not. Our instructor is great. Very disciplined but at the same time great sense of humor he wont sugar coat anything. Hell definitely let you know what you need to work on, very humble. Im in the military and when the time comes I might just stay in Virginia just because I love coming here so much already.

We have been with EAMMA for more than 6 years. They are consistently a very professional and responsible teaching organization. The enduring principals they teach and the personal involvement of Wasei Miran and his excellent teaching staff are unparalleled in the industry. Law Enforcement, youth, skilled fighters all have benefited greatly through their instruction. The proof is in their students, many of whom are accomplished fighters and skilled instructors. I recommend them to people of all ages and walks of life.

This place is far greater then any Jeet Kune Do school I could have ever imagined. As soon as I walked it this place I didnt have to go to look at any other school (that is rare).They truly teach the art and concepts of Jeet Kune Do the way Bruce Lee wanted. The instructors train and certify right from Dan Inasanto which was Bruce Lees best student and the one person Bruce Lees son (Brandon Lee) chose to train with to learn what his father had taught.Their methods of teaching are very effective and the there is a high level of discipline and respect ingrained in everyone. We even got to practice sparing on my second class to help bring everything we had learned so far together.I have read every book on Bruce Lee and have a pretty good understanding of his ideas and beliefs in what he taught and this place, in my opinion, is the next best thing to training directly from Bruce Lee himself. I signed myself and my son up the same day I went there the first time.I am and will be forever grateful to Wahsei for teaching me and my son. Thank you.

I visited a couple of other academies before landing on this hidden gem. Kru Wahsei has decades of expertise under the great masters ( Inosanto, Sirisute Chai,...) and it shows.His lessons are carefully structured and designed to successfully cover the extensive curriculum of Muay Thai, Kali, BJJ, etc.Hard to find someone so vested in his students and demanding the best (because he provides the best)I particularly love the attention to detail to sharpen technique, the respect and reverence he teaches, and the camaraderie between students.Because of his extensive knowledge, continued training and personal aptitude I feel this is a fantastic environment for both fighters/ beginners to expand and deepen their knowledge. This gym has been around for almost 20 years and it isn’t your latest “mma” gym to come get a cardio kickboxing workout. Be prepared to get a demanding mental and physical workout and see what you are made of.
