TLDR; Sunrise had been my last resort, but I wish I had chosen to go to them first. They met my needs and exceeded my expectations in every way.Because of the pandemic, I found myself in a situation where I was fortunate to get a new job—and along with it, new insurance. However, my new PCP gave me an emergency refill of a much-needed prescription, but wasnt willing to authorize further refills because my previous evaluation was too old. Like so many other people, I am completely overwhelmed at work because of ̶c̶a̶p̶i̶t̶a̶l̶i̶s̶m̶ staffing issues (my company cant attract new people because they arent offering a living wage, so I am single-handedly doing work that would ideally be split among three or four other people), and I have had to make and cancel 4 separate appointments because of how busy I am.I managed to ration my meds to make them last longer, but my supply was getting perilously low when I found out about Sunrises Testing Center.Travis, the manager there, found a way to squeeze me into their schedule on very short notice, and it was a Telehealth appointment, so I didnt have to take time off work to travel from Yorktown all the way to Virginia Beach and back during a workday. Truly, if this hadnt been an option, I would not have been able to make the appointment, so it was absolutely a lifesaver.On top of that, Nerissa, the counselor who administered my evaluation, was incredibly understanding of my situation and was able to process my evaluation and send me the results very quickly. Because of her incredible professionalism and compassion, I was able to fax the necessary documents to my PCPs office the same day as my appointment.The next time I am needing help, Sunrise will be the first place I call.

My therapist is great!!! (Jasen) I’ve been seeing him for a year now & I would 100% recommend him to anyone. And so is my NP i see for med management (Latoya) There was one instance I showed up and I guess my appointment was never saved? but she worked me in & I was able to get a refill on my meds.I’ve also seen Christie at the testing facility downstairs and she’s awesome too!! Love all of the people I see! Also love it’s all in the same practice so my providers can work together to develop a comprehensive treatment plan that works best for me!

Completely unprofessional. I usually have no co pay. My insurance company makes a mistake and instead of looking into the situation, they charge my credit card without notice?Update: Ive called and left messages. Two weeks later... no call back but they continue to charge my account.

Brian is absolutely amazing. I see him for couples and individually, Ive seen therapists before and it felt very clinical, but with Brian its easy. I dont have to worry about being judged for what I say or do. He makes it so easy. If youre ever considering therapy do it!! The only downside side Id say is getting in to see him is hard because hes just that amazing!

She really took the time to talk to me about what my concerns are and to consult WITH me on a medication plan. She explained what I could expect, pros and cons to my options. Ive never felt so comfortable with someone managing meds as I do with her. She is professional and kind.Shaun Salzman has been such a phenomenal resource for me; helping me to reframe thought processes and working with me to find tools that help me manage stress and work through internal struggles.I also worked with their testing center and the process was seamless and comfortable.I also like that all the services I need are with one office and that all of my providers can communicate with each other to help develop the best treatment plan for me.Finding Sunrise Counseling has been life changing for me!

Emily is amazing! I’ve gone through a bunch of therapists until I’ve found one that I liked and Emily was it! She also referred me to Brian for more of a relationship/couples counseling and he was wonderful as well!! Fun and I actually look forward to going. It’s more of a friendly vibe then the typical someone listening to your problems. I’ve also seen the med dept with Latoya and Jamie and they’ve been great!

Ive been seeing Shaun for over a year and hes helped me out tremendously with the many facets of life. He has been accommodating and flexible to my schedule, whether it be in person sessions or telehealth/phone sessions. Overall, a positive experience all around.

My husband and I see Sara for counseling and I also see her on my own, she is so amazing and made us both feel so comfortable. She is great at helping us work through our problems and helping us learn to communicate better with each other, my husband loves going too which is also nice! Emily Teel is absolutely amazing! She is so kind and patient and very knowledgeable. I was nervous initially going in to my first session with her but she made it feel so comfortable it was almost as if I was just speaking to a friend who’d known me forever, she was so warm and caring. I really believe you can tell how much a person is truly meant for this job by the way they speak to you and how easily you can open up and she made it so easy for me to always open up and talk freely about whatever was concerning me or on my mind. When I first researched Sunrise Counseling, I came across Jasens information and decided to reach out to him. If anyone has sought counseling before, you know how pivotal it is to establish an open and honest connection with your Therapist and I was able to find that within Jasen. He is able to provide and demonstrate an immense amount of both empathy and sympathy within his methods that show you he is truly here for your needs and concerns above all else. For me personally, Jasen has been critical in redirecting my stubbornness and unwillingness to see self attributes and situations in a positive or more realistic way than what they appear to be within my world. Upon moving to Virginia during the most difficult time I have been faced with, I obtained no support system and within Jasen was able to find a motivator, friend and outlet for my pain. Ive had an amazing experience here so far! I hadnt seen anyone yet (had an appt scheduled) and was going thru a crisis. They had the crisis management counselor call me right away and he was able to fit me in for an appt the next day. You are in great hands at this facility.

For all who read this and are looking for help. I have been working with Jasen since the beginning of this year. There were so many issues I had that I cannot begin to explain. One I will touch on is control and freaking out when I had no control, flying was my biggest freak out. Within two months I was able to fly overseas and back with no issues. Now a couple months later I feel like myself and I have started to do things again that I never thought I would do in my wildest dreams. I still have plenty of issues I am working on day to day but the progress I made with him I never thought was possible. If anyone is in need please reach out, Jasen can help. Also please remember that there are people in this world who care about you. And if you ever think you cannot take it anymore just remember this world is so much better with you in it. People care and I care, and people do love you no matter the circumstances they will always love you. You are not a burden on this world if anything you are what makes this world so great.

Emily Teal is amazing! This is my first time seeing a therapist as an adult and I love that she is so easy to talk to and it doesn’t feel stuffy or awkward like you’d imagine or like it’s portrayed in movies or the sopranos (haha). Having someone objective to talk to helps put things into perspective for me, and since everything’s totally confidential I don’t have to be afraid to be completely honest about what’s going on and how I’m feeling. I also love that she’s available by phone if you can’t come into the office. Can’t recommend her enough!

Cannot recommend this establishment for marriage/couple counseling. I felt ostracized and unable to speak on important issues which would’ve made a difference during counseling. This was due to conflict of interests and a loss of trust. I can’t go into detail here but consider looking elsewhere for couples therapy.

I previously was seeing Ms. Latoya Mullen at a practice prior to her switch over to Sunrise Counseling. I have nothing but great things to say about her. The staff at Sunrise Counseling is efficient, kind, professional and helpful. As a patient, I have received excellent care and would highly recommend this practice to anyone.

Jasen Eberz is a fantastic therapist. Focusing on person centric therapy, he works with you to find ways that you can help yourself, leaning on skills and tactics learned during appointments. Scheduling is easy, the entire staff is warm and friendly, and Jasen is very accessible if/when a crisis occurs and you need him ASAP. I cant say enough about him.

Medication management is absolutely awful and unreliable. If you like gambling on if your prescriptions will actually be submitted to the pharmacy on time every month, this is the place for you. Of course, when your provider inevitably does forget to submit your prescriptions, you get to play the fun game of bombarding the office’s phone lines in the hopes of actually getting through to someone.Providers are friendly enough, but honestly, you’re just a number here.

One of the best counseling places I have ever dealt with. Korrin is always so kind and compassionate. Makes me feel good having such a strong supporter to face life challenges.

I had one appt with my daughter. The 2nd session was scheduled a month out. I called to confirm and see if it was virtual, no answer left message NO ONE EVER contacted me back! No one ever called to confirm, reschedule or follow up!

The phone / desk staff is horrible youre told you can get medications or to go on the website for appointments theres no links or no one in the office. My favorite is when Im out on hold and then hungup on. The worst is when I have to call 20 times just to schedule ANY APPOINTMENT!!!!

As someone who avoided therapy for 24 years due to the extreme anxiety it brought on, I can say that Sunrise has thoroughly eased that anxiety!! Shaun is absolutely amazing & has helped me work through so many underlying issues. Working with him in conjunction with the medication management team has helped me in more ways than I can explain! I can not thank Sunrise & their teams enough!!

Really adorable office. Waiting area is always calm and comfortable. Both me and my son work with two of the amazing counselors here. I have never felt as comfortable as I do with Emily. She provides me with help, as well as, makes me feel as if she is genuinely there to support me. I am equally as happy with Noeris. She has been working with me son, and he loves coming to his appointments. I recommend this office for anyone in need of counseling!

I thought this place was great, but apparently they do not call patients back and refuse to refill medicines that one needs to take daily. I have been trying to get in touch with them for a refill and to schedule another appointment for a week and they have not called me back and have denied my refill requests (for an antidepressant!) from the pharmacy. To call this neglectful would be putting it lightly. They clearly do not care about the wellbeing of their patients. I have told them multiple times that I am out of my medicine and am experiencing withdrawal, yet they do not seem to care in the slightest. This is absolutely unacceptable behavior from a psychiatric practice!!

Emily has been fantastic. She has been a great sounding board and very understanding. Emily has been very accommodating with my schedule. She is giving me the tools I need to help me become successful. I would definitely recommend sunrise counsel and Emily.

Emily has gone above and beyond the expectations of a counselor in helping me navigate difficulties in my work and personal life. I cannot recommend her enough to anyone looking for guidance, as I’m able to have honest conversations without fear of judgment and trust that she’ll lead me in the right direction.The environment feels more like a friend’s house than a doctor’s office, which definitely helps me feel more at ease each time I visit. I scheduled an appointment with Kendra-Jackson Ralph on January 01/02. She sent me the intake forms and I even received a email confirmation for my appointment. Here comes the day of my appointment 1) I had trouble finding the office2) they looked into the system to not even see my appointment listed despite the fact that I scheduled3) I logged into my online account and my appointment was no longer there so Kendra must have cancelled without my knowledgeShe could’ve at least informed me that she cancelled prior to so I didn’t waste my time or gas. Definitely will not be going to this location or even consider it in the future. VERY disappointed to not get the services I desperately need.

Ive been frustrated with Sunrise for over a year. As far as the Counceling staff goes, I havent found anyone remotely capable to work with my teenage son. One therapist spent 3 sessions trying to convince my son that he was misdiagnosed by several doctors and specialists. An absolute waste of time and mentally damaging to my child.I have had billing issues from the beginning. Ive been charged several times for services covered by my medical insurance, and always have to call to have my file there adjusted. When their billing offices messes up, their appointment staff wont schedule you and they will refuse to fill your prescriptions.Last week, I was told there was NO appointment times available to see the psychiatrist and then today was told that he needed to see the psych to have his medications refilled. Medications Ive been calling to have filled for the last five days, which they finally told me on Friday afternoon... that no one was in the office to process the prescription refill I have been asking for... for a week.Ive lived all over the country and have worked with several offices and specialists. This office staff is kind, but unprofessional. They often cant help you with clerical issues, you spend a great deal of time in office waiting for help or on the phone leaving messages you might wait several days to get a response.

First off, I would just like to say this place is great!!! Emily is the absolute best, comfortable to talk to and very approachable. I never wanted to talk to someone but find her very easy to talk to and enjoy getting to get some things off my chest with her. I am very glad I chose her! The staff here is very accommodating with schedule and there is plenty of people that are here to help that will fit your dynamic.

Our Therapist Emily has been such a blessing to our marriage! She has been a key factor in giving us important tools to make our marriage healthier. Shes given us fun new ways to reconnect and build on our communication. I cant say enough great things about this group! I see Emily for therapy and Latoya for med management but weve also seen Jason for marriage therapy, Nicole for some therapy with our son... I have been in the office frequently in the last 9-10 months and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend anyone here- I am very observant and see just a passion for people in this office. They are not just therapists- they actually engage, get to know you and they are so good at working to the root of issues. After years of nearly debilitating anxiety and bouts of depression as a full time working mom and military spouse, I found myself in a spiral of negativity that was affecting all aspects of my life. I have learned so much about myself through working with Emily and Latoya has been instrumental in proper med management- she listens, makes no judgement and was incredibly informative about options but also I dont feel over-medicated or a push to try things I dont care for- between the two of them, I am feeling truly balanced. During the COVID shut downs, we moved to teletherapy, I havent missed an appt nor do I feel Ive received less care- they are flexible and thorough even with the video options. I never thought Id like teletherapy but in fact, I prefer it! I would be remiss if I didnt mention the amazing support staff they have- the front desk and admin staff is all so kind and welcoming. There are so many great providers here- dont hesitate to try them out.

I’ve seen a couple therapists at different offices in the past but never really seemed to click with them like I wanted to. I started seeing Emily a year ago and she’s by far the best one I’ve had. I first went to her when I was going through a really rough time and she was able to tell me what I needed to hear while still being compassionate. I always looked forward to our sessions and couldn’t wait to update her with what was going on in my life. In fact I actually just moved a couple hours away and I still plan on having sessions with her whenever I can... Highly recommend!!

I’ve been working with Emily for just over seven months. When our sessions first began I was extremely intimidated by therapy, generally pessimistic, and emotionally broken. I am constantly impressed and comforted with how well she managed, and still manages, to break through my barriers and encourage my personal growth/acceptance. Her approach is appropriately direct and I’ve never felt like a burden with any of our discussions. The most important element of my experience with Emily is that I feel as if I’m having a conversation with someone I’ve known my entire life. I genuinely trust her and believe she has my best interests in mind.

Ive been working with Emily Teel at Sunrise for several months now and I do not think Ive ever seen a better counselor. She is insightful and open. Shes willing to have a dialog and guide you to solutions that are tailored to your situation and really make a difference. Domany is the first counselor I have ever visited in Virginia Beach. I am a young man in my early twenties. I had survived four years of college. For the last two years of my college years. I started frequently drinking to the point of blacking out and gained heavy thoughts of suicide. I became a very depressed and emotional person. I left school three weeks to go into my senior year because I was at a crossroad of getting help or committing suicide. I was skeptical to have a counselor that specialized in marriage and family counseling. Also, the fact that she had her degree from Regent. I really thought I would get some white, conservative, religious woman. But I could not have been more wrong. Domany is a great match for my attitude. We have constructive and authentic sessions every time we meet. She has even offered to help me when I return back to school by video chatting. Sunrise Counseling communicates with their colleagues in order to get advice on specific cases. I highly recommend Sunrise Counseling to anyone have any ethnicity, disorder, age, etc. They are fantastic!

Im not sure if I personally just had really bad luck here or if this has happened to others who havent provided any reviews but my general feelings are that the professionals themselves are quite good at what they do but the management of appointments/communication is extremely poor. This is based on three separate experiences.The first was my initial call to schedule. I immediately got a bad feeling about the office because the receptionist explained the way they conduct med management appointments (turned out it was via a skype-like platform remotely, which actually ended up being totally fine for me) in a very confusing way that made it seem that even though I had an appointment she had no idea if my psychiatrist would be there or not. I felt like I was only going to see her if she had a cancellation or something, which was not the case.Second bad experience was when I had to take off work to come in for what I expected to be maybe 20 minutes at most (my appointments were med-related only so typically fairly quick) and the whole office was so packed that many people were standing uncomfortably close to each other. I guess they had messed up the scheduling that day and I found out that two other people there were booked for the same time slot and with the same person that I was. I only discovered this after waiting for about 30 minutes. Then they took in one of the others (the most angry at the time) and didnt give me any instruction on whether Id be able to wait and get in or if I was just out of luck. After about an hour I went up and specifically asked what the plan was and was told Id have to reschedule, which I did. Luckily it was okay with work that I leave again and come back for the rescheduled appt later that day, but that situation made me miss a total of about 3 hours of work in one day.I get that mistakes happen and I really tried to be patient with this office. However the last situation and why I wont/cant go back is that I came in for my appointment that had been scheduled a month in advance to find that they no longer accept my insurance and I could either pay $75 for an appt that day or I was basically out of luck. I needed my medications so this didnt give me a choice as there was no time to try and find another provider.My goal here isnt to bash the practice, but I felt compelled to put this information out there as I cant imagine that anyone with serious mental health issues would find this office to be a good fit for their needs.

As a military wife raising 3 kids, 2 of which have learning disorders, not to mention battling my own anxiety, depression, and ADHD believe me when I tell you I have gone to seek therapy from places all around hampton roads, in addition to North Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma and even oversees..... Ive met quite a few counselors, some better than others but no other practice has offered me and my family the warm and down to earth nature that this mom n pop practice has given to me, my husband, and our 2 youngest children. Dr. Crawford saved me from my depression after my first marriage fell apart. I was devastated and felt entirely alone before he taught me how to ride the waves life gave me, tools I continue to use daily. Emily Teele saved my husband from a lack of confidence and self destructive habits, both Mrs. Norris and Roshawnda have given my kids a spark of motivation to improve in school and learn to trust and open up about their feelings to their dad. Even now as theyve grown into a much larger and much busier and established practice, the quality of their therapy is continues to go unmatched. The office staff is the most personable and down to earth I have ever encountered in a clinical setting, especially at this size. It does not feel like youre walking into a busy clinical setting, you never get the feeling you are being rushed in just to be rushed back out or are being taken advantage of. The office managers Laurie and Travis both have a dry wit and real authentic personalities that will catch you off guard. Checking in feels like checking in with old friends. My son is just as excited to see Mr Travis as he is for his sessions with Ro. I can go on and on about how much I enjoy the people and atmosphere here, my ONLY complaint is that over the last year or so their small waiting area gets jam packed QUICKLY when people start coming in and out for their new medication doctors. Lets just say people rushing in and out to get their meds arent exactly the friendliest people to say the least......However, I was told that their are currently doing construction to expand this waiting room sometime in the near future, so Until then, Sunrise Counseling Services gets a 9.9 out of 10 :)

Dr. T has been the catalyst to a number of significant personal changes. She has improved my quality of life and I am grateful for it. Her new office kills too

NOTE: This review is not on services received, but my interaction with whoever is in charge of scheduling appointments. I called on 10/17/19 around 5pm ET.To summarize, I was told Im sorry, but I dont think we can help you.It takes a LOT for some individuals to accept they need help, let alone call and ask for help. So, I called to try and schedule an appointment for services. I was hoping they could work with my schedule and initially asked for availability for early and/or late appointment options. I was placed on hold (thats fine) then the woman came back and said the counselors who typically have that availability arent taking new clients and proceeded with Im sorry, but I dont think we can help you. I allowed a 5 second pause - shocked, confused, and waiting for her to respond with an alternative option (or say something else), but no, she ended with that. I told her that Id be willing to adjust my availability because of the great reviews, and asked if its mostly daytime appointments available, and her reply was Yes, just daytime with another 5 second pause, allowing for suggestions, or SOMETHING. So, the message I took from our conversation was They cannot help me. For someone seeking help, how do you think that makes them feel? Mind you, I put my big girl pants on and thanked her for checking and that Id look for a different provider, but sheesh...that response really stuck with me.I WORK in the healthcare clinical/BH/MH world and really cannot believe that this was the response I got from someone who works directly with individuals seeking help.Overall, Id say that was a pretty bad experience and hope no one else seeking help has to experience this, at any facility. I also hope this is addressed with staff and they adjust their verbal communications so this We cannot help you message isnt received by those looking to improve their BH and MH.

*Update* 1/10/2020I am beyond done seeking help here. The front desk said that the psychiatrist that I had been scheduled to see over booked herself, which left me and another patient who was on their lunch break in the front waiting room after our appt. time. When I was taken back to speak to the provider I was told the front desk does the scheduling. They like to play the blame game when it comes to late appointments and double booking. The provider also stated that the front desk didnt even check me in for the double booked appointment! I would say 80% of the time when I come here I am left waiting past my appointment time, or not properly checked in. I came once and waited so long for my vitals to be taken that I had to come back the next day because I couldnt wait any longer, despite arriving early. In addition, they did not properly bill my insurance, but certainly was able to bill my credit card for a full amount without the insurance applied! I checked both before and after the appointments with the young man at the front desk to make sure that the co-pay was accurate, and he assured me that there was no co-pay for my sons account, yet I was billed in the entirety for his without insurance applied. Mine I had paid the copay, and insurance was applied, and they still forwarded the balance. Avoid this place if you can, its not worth the headache.I really like the therapist, but front desk staff is always behind. This is my second visit and it took 10 mins past my appt time to check me in, then they have to tell the therapist so its a longer wait. It was 10 mins past my appt. before I even got called back, and I was early.

I have been attending this facility for a little over six months and believe that it has been one of the best decisions that I could have made in seeking the services that they provide. My counselor (Domany Davilmar) is not only warm and inviting, but seeks to always ask thought provoking questions that spear you to think about your situation and overs other ways of looking at it in a different light. T.D. Jakes says, Sometimes you much depend on the faith of others in you, when you dont have it in yourself until your kicks in. This place helps you get your faith back!

This is my first time trying counseling and I was a little hesitant at first, but honestly Domany A. Davilmar, M.A. is amazing. I haven’t had my sessions, but in just a short time, she has helped me through so much. I definitely recommend her!

Been seeing Emily for a little over a year. Being 25 I was pessimistic at first but she is amazing. She connects with you, she truly cares and wants you to grow as a person.

We love Ms. Korrin, Ms. Leah and Ms. Domany. Therapy has helped our kids a lot. They have taught them coping skills, the ability to talk about whats wrong, getting along, etc. Totally different kids than when we first started.
