My husband brought my daughters beetle in for the AC. My husband had already looked at it and had asked them to check the control module, 2 hours later hes told the compressor needs to be replaced, no mention of the module. So they ordered the compressor and put it in, doesnt work and they think its defective, so they ordered another. Put that in and still doesnt work! Then lo and behold whats the problem? The CONTROL MODULE! After 4 workdays (6 including the weekend). My daughter ended up paying close to $900+ and it still wasnt fixed. Plus the tech got bbq sauce on the dash and dials. Disappointed.

I have been coming here for several years, and they are extremely knowledgeable about vehicles. I was referred to them years ago by another shop to do the work that needed specialized knowledge and they delivered. I have been bringing big jobs to them ever since. They have fixed problems other shops couldnt figure out. I always have them do my smog, because they have in-house technicians that can help resolve the issue, unlike most smog shops that would send you to Joes anyway if you failed.

If you have a more complex smog issue with your car, take it to Joes Smog Shack. Their prices are reasonable and they do a good job. They come highly recommended by local mechanics in town.

They helped me with a dead battery when many other places wouldnt even mess with my Fiat. They were friendly, had a good sense of humor, and got my car going again at a fair price. If I had any complaint at all, and this is super nitpicky, it would be that the waiting area is pretty small and it was hard to stay cool during the heat that day as the fan only blew on one area. But even then they offered me cold water. I am actually going to call them today cause I made an oopsie that cost me a radiator. Ha ha. I expect things to go as good as they did last time. Highly recommend.

Joes Smog Shack, Inc. are so incredibly helpful to all your automotive needs. My Jeep wouldnt start one morning so I brought it to Joes Smog Shack, Inc. He checked it out and said it wasnt anything. And its ran fine ever since. Oh yeah, he did my smog for my truck for a great price too. Give him a try, you wont be disappointed.

Upon recommendation of another Tracy repair shop, I brought in my 20 yo SUV for an engine light diagnosis— it requires a pricey fix which I will have to think about.I can appreciate the owner’s right to a sense of humor as he’s plastered a waiting room wall with pro-Trump printouts, but I found it offensive to see anti-Nancy Pelosi, anti-Adam Schiff, and anti-Democratic Party jokes. I can only guess the owner doesn’t care whom he insults.

Terrible! Almost an hour for a 2001 OBD2 smog thats plug and play, no Dyno and takes minutes to be first charged almost $60 to then get coupon for $38.95. They didnt know I have my own repair shop and know about smog and repairs but I dont do smog. Ive referred customers to them but never again. Beware!...

I would give less than 1 star if I could. Paid $95.00 so they could tell me why my car wouldnt pass, in the end, they could not tell me why. I went to another location in town and of course had to pay the $90 evaluation fee and he was able to tell me quickly and very easily. Bought the parts and the car passed no problem. They are liars and took my money and did not do anything for the money, I considered suing them, but did not. sad I didnt because I know I would have won.

The lady at the front desk is horrible.Super rude I refused to bring my car there even though my buddy Andrew whose a great mechanic works there but due to the lady at the front desk I wont bring my car there any more she left me on the phone for 20 minutes on hold and never came back to answer my question and when I hung up and recalled she answered and realized it was me instantly had an attitude and I couldnt get a smog

I took my car to a different shop to get smogged and it failed. That shop wouldnt tell me what was wrong. I then took my car to Joes Smog Shack due to a recommendation from my brother-in-law. They tested it again and saw that the Catalytic Converter was shot. (I have a 94 Civic.) They replaced it and retested and it passed. The total for parts, repairs, plus the smog checks was much less than I had planned --and my car was in the shop for only a day. I was very pleased. Four years later and Im now going back to them to fix my clutch. Ill add a new review once that job is taken care of.

I have no problem with their techs, they all do good work but my issue comes down to price. I called for an estimate on a clutch replacement for my 2001 Mustang GT/Bullitt and was shocked when I heard the price. $900+ w/ parts and labor, or $700+ labor only. For a 4 hour job, thats just ridiculous. I called several other places in and out of town and none of them quoted me over $500 and this was including additional work such as replacing my clutch quadrant, cable, and adding a clutch cable adjuster, mind you this tacked on another 1.5hours of labor and still came no where near the price Joes wanted.Another incident where I was bothered by price, and honesty. My heads were blown on my original 2001 Mustang Bullitt (2 or so years ago) and was told by the techs they had to remove my engine to remove the heads. I thought it a bit funny at first but told them to continue anyways, BAD IDEA. I later did my research on forums and talked to a few Ford techs at multiple dealerships and it was confirmed that the heads can be removed with the engine in place. I got hustled out of $1400 for a job that shouldve cost no more than $300-400. I still have paperwork to confirm this and have written confirmation from dealerships explaining engines do not need to be removed. Call it what you want but I cant say its honest, or full of integrity.
