Delivery of the paper is a terrible. Our previous carrier, Michelle, was great and represented TCJ very well. She gave us her cell, so we could stop our paper by texting her . The last two trips out of town, I have used the automated system, which is a complete failure. The carrier continues to deliver the paper, fortunately my neighbor continues to pick them up, however there are some days he is out of town, so they just will pile up. On our last trip I called 4 times to try and get the paper stopped. Of course you dont talked to anybody local and never to same person. All they can do is send notice to where I dont know. It sure isnt to the delivery person. I asked them to call somebody, which they cant do. The last person I talked told me she cant do anything more. A end of the call, they want a survey done, which talks about their great service. You are kidding right! In the past when I used the automated system, after you entered the restart day, it would let you choose what you wanted done with your papers. You could choose to have them saved and delivered upon your return or you could donate them to a school, which we always did. That service is no longer there, so I dont know what happens to the papers we paid for. The automated call just says Have good vacation. Of course if they are going to continue delivery of the paper it doesnt matter anyway. I am asking if we can have a local number that we can call if the paper is not stopped. I long time customer of TCJ.
We have the BEST PAPER CARRIER in the world!!! Whomever replaced Sandy who likewise was the BEST!!! Just want to thank whomever you are in the North Sherwood area off Indian Hills. Thank You!!!
Seems like when you dont get a paper on a weekend youre just out of luck. You used to be able to call the main number and get transferred where you could say you didnt get one. Now all you get is that they are open from 8-5 Monday thru Friday. For what we pay for the paper this is TOTALLY unacceptable. They dont even deserve a rating of one.
Full Disclosure: I deliver this newspaper. I dont, however, work for them.It is like most every print newspaper struggling to maintain viability in a new media world. By a huge majority of like 100 to 1 the subscribers I deliver to are elderly and somewhat disabled. All of that said the CJ still manages to cater to local interests even though they are a shadow of what they once were as local observers and reporters. The paper has a unique and interesting history and is worth checking out.
Hard to find parking. but they great people inside.
Problems with delivery, and difficulty in contacting the newspaper with complaints about delivery issues....
Despite being a Millenial, Im also a bit of a Luddite and still prefer reading a physical newspaper over a website. Ive been reading the Capital Journal for over a decade now and the number of pages in the paper has been declining during the whole period, despite the price for the daily edition doubling from fifty cents to a dollar over the decade. While not doing a horrendously bad job covering state government and Topeka topics, the CJ uses only one third of a page to cover national and international news. The sports section is really spotty in coverage: Topeka high schools plus a few collegiate sports (mostly limited to KU, K State, and WU football and basketball). Pro sports are mostly limited to KC Chiefs and Royals, plus some coverage of the Topeka Roadrunners. Very little coverage of other items in these leagues, and none at all of other local teams (such as the KC T-Bones, the KC womens soccer team, etc.)The daily edition Is mostly limited to only the news, sports, and a few pages of classified. Business is only a couple stock quotes on page two.
Very rude and dismissive staff
The giant printing presses sit dormant, no longer needed ... sales of newspapers so low they are now printed in KC. ... still an awesome sight
Fantastic publication compared to the Chicago Dispatch.
I work here and the people are awesome!!
Voice of the Democrat party.
