Ive been a member here for several years and have witnessed, first hand, the steady decline. AC in the racquetball courts rarely works. Benches that we use to rest between games...removed and placed in the gym to accommodate spectators. Nobody ever seems to be there that can actually RECTIFY a problem, they just say theyll let someone know. I dont know who this someone is but they NEVER seem to actually resolve the issues. Its always one excuse after another with no changes. Step up. Be better. We pay EXTRA to be able to use the courts, they shouldnt be dirty, without air and not well maintained.

Called in to set up a trial because i just moved to the area. I was told to come in and try it out free all i need to do was speak with manager and they would be expecting me . Got there and the manager had no clue what i was talking about and tried to charge me $21 for a day pass. Went to optimum gym off Kennedy instead and signed up today .

Leaking air conditioner, no towel service, trash all over the workout floor, dirty bathrooms. This is no longer a signature club. If the GM spent less time on their cell phone, something might get done. The bright spot, great personal training

The South Tampa LA Fitness is awesome! The staff is super friendly and dedicated to making sure each member has the best experience each time they come into the facility! Alex the GM has great energy, you can tell he puts his heart and soul into his profession! Phat is also very welcoming! Alex and Phat make a great team!

Sales driven gym, they don’t care about the customer only about what they can get from you. Didn’t feel welcome to check out the gym thanks to Alexander Witherspoon who immediately stopped me when I entered and saw I was using a guest pass. It felt as if I were being watched to make sure I didn’t use certain amenities rather than them accommodating my experience. It was my first time visiting and it will be my last.

Wow....I wish I could give this place 10 ⭐️’s. The facility is huge, Pool 🏊, Jacuzzi, Sauna, Basketball court, Racquetball, Spin, Yoga, you name it. Best Gym in South Tampa hands down, you never have to wait for anything! And also the GM (Alex) phenomenal he took care of me and my family, make sure you ask for him! God Bless.

Overall very disappointed. It’s usually overcrowded and I end up waiting several minutes in between each exercise for equipment to become available. A workout that can be done in 45 minutes usually takes an hour and 15 minutes. Several machines are perpetually in disrepair. Half the time the sanitizer dispensers are empty. And that’s during Covid times…. Imagine otherwise.

Been a member for about 6 months and have never had an issue. There’s certain times of day you want to avoid because it gets busy, but over all a quality experience every time.

It’s a pleasure to go to this gym. Everyone working out there has class and puts the weights back in the correct place. There’s enough machines for everyone and multiple areas to work out. Everything is up to date and clean! Keep it up! I love this location.

Nice Gym clean good equipment, membership services and GM(Alex) are terrible though my only complaint. All they want is to sign you up, don’t care about your needs/wants. Sad because I was excited to come here on the recommendation from my co-workers. I should Have stayed at crunch smh....

I don’t suggest this gym. Receptionists and customer service is extremely rude. They are always on their phone texting, usually never any help. You will get hung up on if you’re on the phone with them to ask for help. They have luxury prices without having anything luxury.

Today I used the lockers. I put my stuff as I always do and locked it. When I finished training my padlock was no longer there. Someone opened my locker in the restroom. They STOLE all my cards and credit cards out of my wallet.

Good gym but be 100% sure you want to sign up. It is impossible almost to cancel your membership. Luckily contracts are null and void during pandemic.

Due to poor customer service from Tyler, I canceled my LA Fitness membership and will discourage all friends on the Force and family members from signing up.

I say they have good opportunities for working out but their hot tub and sauna is always broken and ever so often they are out of towel and takes them forever to actually get the broken Equipment worked on and their kids club assistant fell asleep while my child was in their care on 09/21/2021 also while he had food BIG CHOKING HAZARD don’t recommend the kids area unless they have a different person working that day

Love this gym! Joined here about 10 months ago.. Always clean, tons of space with the 2 floors. Easy parking. Especially like the new green area upstairs for HIIT and bootcamp type training. Lockers and showers always clean. Great staff too including some great personal trainers.

First time back in 15 months. I was impressed with how active, clean and professional this organization continues despite the challenges.

Went in for a membership and was refused since I have a CA DL, not a FL one. I have two homes, one in CA and one in Tampa (2 miles from the gym). My Tampa address and bills are in my name but the GM flat out said I dont care. So apparently LA Fitness cant figure out how to sign someone up with a CA DL but has a home in Tampa. No worries, plenty of fitness opportunities to take my business to in the area.

Place is not kept clean. The parking garage has trash all over . Routine maintenance is not kept up with

This is the best fitness gym. It was wide that you can comfortably do your workout properly there. The fitness coach was very determined in teaching me the proper ways to do the routine. Thank you!

After a few years of visiting this gym I’m sorely disappointed. Filthy facilities, poorly maintained pool, and hostile employees! The manager especially is hostile and threatening. Don’t waste your time!

With customers it is greet them or lose them. Greet your members with the care and attention any customer would want.It’s unbelievable to see that personal trainers don’t ever greet clients. How can you inspire clients to work out with any of your trainers when they lack basic manners.

Ive been a member since 2018 and I loved this gym and the staff. Im ok with some people not wearing a mask, I wear mine and I work out. But recently Ive been uncomfortable going there because some people who workout at the gym asked me why I was wearing a mask?! I ignored that and I went again to the gym because I love this gym, however, two guys passed by me and one of them said I have Covid, he has Covid, everyone does referring to theres no point in wearing a mask. I was disappointed, this wouldnt has happened if the gym paid attention to people not wearing a mask. The gym has a sign that requires wearing a mask, yet some people who workout there find it weird that Im wearing one. Today I transferred to another LA fitness and If I experience the same thing, unfortunately, I will cancel my membership.

Place is run by the most unprofessional staff. I’ve been an LaFitness member for 8 years. I went to South Tampa location. The place was a wreck. Weights laying all over, used paper towels all over the floors. Needless to say I left before I started working out. I tried to talk to a staff member named Phat. He’s was cocky, rude and didn’t really care. It’s a shame what South Tampa has become.

Put down your phones and act like you want to be at work..Not only are you not greeted at the desk, if you need something you cannot get any eye contact. No soap in the one handicap stall for 3 days in a row. Same with hair in drain covering, 3 different colors of hair, on one day!! I have removed and put in area outside the stall on floor so it is visible to cleaning staff. With Covid your cleaning staff needs to be property trained, gyms were closed because they are germ magnets! Had a session with a trainer and HE made some VERY insensitive comments that makes me not want to come back. At all.

It’s a nice gym but if you are high risk or worried about covid in general, I wouldn’t reccomend coming to this gym. I thought there would be better enforcement of masks here but there is not. I called to ask about how they are enforcing masks since it seems that about 70-80% of people walk around without masks on between machines/ around the building in general and they said they don’t have the staff to be able to enforce masks.

They checked me in for the free trial on October 14th, 2020 without me even being there. I got into an accident on October 10th, and took off over a week from work to recover from a swollen face due to back and neck trauma i had. The text messages will prove that you checked me in without me being there since you dont have cameras. Do you really think anybody walked in there with a swollen face and a messed up neck and back? I can take my business elsewhere if management wants to act like they dont care.

Lol at the some other reviews mentioning cleanliness. I hv pictures proving the exact opposite.This gym does not enforce mask wearing. You only hv to hv one checking in other than that you can wander around mask free like Corona where!?!If your worried about covid this isn’t the gym to go to. I see ppl all over with no masks.

I’ve been a customer of LA Fitness and formerly Urban Active for over a decade. I love the signature club because there is TONS of machines and weights, however there is a SERIOUS issue with soap being EMPTY and paper towel rolls being empty. I have NEVER had an issue at any gym I’ve been to like this one. You have to search for paper towels and soap on the regular. IS IT REALLY THAT HARD TO KEEP PAPER TOWELS AND SOAP STOCKED UP?!!?!?!? It’s amazing to me they still can’t do it with corona floating around. I guess they really don’t care if we can properly clean the machines! The staff currently is a pleasure to deal with but about a year ago wow there were some unfriendly women in here. Hopefully they never ever get rehired. It’s a pretty good gym and corporate offered me a $39 national plan with no annual fee since the actual club wouldnt. I enjoy working out at LA but this location could use some upgrades and improvements for sure. You can basically get the same things minus the pool in the area for half the price. I don’t have an issue with it being too busy but it can be a little hectic at rush hour. That’s any gym in Tampa Bay really tho. Do keep your cars locked here there have been break ins and people STEALING CARS.

Most of the equipment here is new. You’ll usually find most people don’t put the free weights back where they belong and that can be pretty annoying. The monthly membership can be pricey if you don’t do group classes also. The trainers can also sometimes be pushy about signing up for personal training sessions.

This is a signature club. Amazing club. One of the best LA Fitness.

They have refurbrished the place which is nice, however, who puts a turf in a gym? It is not hygenic, very uncomfortable to lie on while doing any floor workouts. Turf cannot be wiped clean, specially now keeping everything sanitized, the turf is a bogus idea. Has to be be changed.

Totally Done with LA Fitness. I have been a member for at least 7 years never missing a payment. Due to covid I have not been to the Gym since last March. Still have made all my payments. I had a credit card comprimised so they have been harrassing me for two days for payment. Informed them I wanted to cancel not comfortable going at this time. A very sarcastic young girl told me only way to cancel is in person and hung up on me. Too many gym options out there do not got here.

Top gym, has almost everything you would need at a gym - free weights, weight machine, cross fit area, weight sled, extensive cardio area, pool, sauna, basketball, childcare, raquetball, spin classes, yoga, boxing bags, and more. Very clean, well maintained, a top gym for the price.

This is a gym with all the amenities. I am swimmer so a pool is a plus. The staff are very friendly and the service is very good. If you have a problem the staff gets right on it. I would recommend this gym.

LA Fitness (South Tampa location) on 301 S. Dale Mabry Hwy. has been taking advantage of my elderly grandmother and her contract. She has tried to freeze and cancel it for several months. Due to COVID19 and her underlying health conditions, she can no longer work out at LA Fitness. Not only have I talked to over 4 Managers at LA fitness, but each and every one of them tell me to address a certain issue with another. I am appalled how unprofessional this LA Fitness has been. I would NOT recommend in fact, I would suggest to try other gyms and fitness centers such as Soho Cycle, CycleBar, CAMP Tampa, the JCC, Crunch, before I ever signed a contract, much less, worked out there. There are so many options in S. Tampa and I would NOT choose this one.

I go to the gym everyday/ almost everyday and it’s awesome! i’ve done the classes i’ve worked out on most mechanics it’s worth the money in my opinion the only problem is, i go with my sister and sometimes we meet up with friends and there is this one particular worker that all of us have had a problem with, she has been very rude, for starters my sister lost her membership card and she set up the contactless sign in using her phone. it worked for her and then she had to restart her phone and when she tried to log back in it said that the login is logged into another device. of course that’s a technical problem but when my sister went to the front to ask (this particular lady was the only one at the front desk) for help she wouldn’t let my sister in, barley helped her figure it out made us drive all the way home to get her debit card (so she could cancel her membership and make a new one) and when my sister got back she told her that “she didn’t have the authority to cancel/renew memberships” she did let me sister in so we were able to do our workout she DID NOT tell me sister that she could have used her phone number to log in (which we found out the next day when we called/ came in) so this worker (who was not new she had been working there since my sister joined in january) she made me and my sister have to go back to our house to get her card come back, get told she couldn’t do it JUST for THE WHOLE TIME she could have used her phone number. we haven’t seen her in about 2 weeks either she got fired or she’s a manager and she’s not there often. also before we were told we couldn’t bring in a guest, even though we had privileges. When one of our friends who payed for premium (or whatever the top rank of the membership is) gave his friend the 14 day pass she stopped us made us wait like 20 minutes before starting our workout, he had a physical guest pass and she went through a full investigation to prove us wrong. anyways i know this seems like a long review but overall it’s a good gym just the workers are a little weird including one of the janitors who just sat down and watch me and my underaged girl friends do squats and leg/ butt workouts. like this dude pulled up a chair and just stared. mind you it’s pretty obvious we are teenagers, just make sure you guys keep an eye on your workers.

Managers LIED to my wife about refunding our annual membership. After being members for over 1 year at the signature club, my wife received a job offer that required us to move to NYC, where there is no LA Fitness. When we renewed our membership, the Membership Manager lied to my wife about the ease of refunding 100% of unused membership. We had looked into going with a monthly membership since we were considering moving for work, but were assured when the time came that refunding the remaining annual membership fee we paid upfront would only require showing proof of moving.This turned out to be a lie.Now, almost 2 months after moving, the Customer Service team at LA Fitness Corporate finally got us in touch with Ryan F., the Membership Service Manager at the Signature Club. He offered us 33% of our remaining annual membership fee from today forward. The monetary difference is massive; a full refund would have amounted to 75% of each annual membership fee of $399.90 each vs 33%. Is this how you would want to be treated if you had to move for work? Is this fair and decent? I couldnt be more dissatisfied, especially because I really enjoyed using this gym almost everyday, and really felt that the staff and managers respected us.Below is an email I wrote to corporate LA Fitness, detailing most of the about series of events and my complete dissatisfaction.If you are looking for a gym, look elsewhere.

We were relocated due to home renovations and John was very accommodating to our needs. Even each time we called the stuff was extremely professional and nice. The facility is very clean and spacious and plenty of equipment so you don’t have to wait for a a machine. Best part is the amount of classes they provide! All your fitness needs can easily be met here. Highly recommend.

Love this gym. When I moved to the area I got free passes to all the local gyms. This one is by far the biggest, therefore I never had to wait for a bench or a machine. That is important to me. They also offer lots of classes and amenities other gyms dont. Totally worth the money!

Had an amazing experience with Annie. Shes the right amount of push in a trainer who not only cares about the workout, but the diet as well. If youre interested in building muscle, losing weight, or even just a more healthy approach, shes a great person to work with.

Came in with no membership, was going i just pay the 20, but then they had great deal couldn’t pass up no initiation fee. Great place for athletes and former athletes want to stay active. Johnathan Price helped me out was awesome. Recommend this place to anyone, this specific location.

This club wants to be a signature club but is worst than clubs way cheaper than they are. The locker is always dirty and messy, they are out of towels, paper towel and soap all the time, the sauna is constantly broke and is just a mess. Only stay here because of the convenience of the location, but they should either up their game or take the signature sign down.

The gym itself is nice. But its waaaaayyyy too crowded unless you go at 6am or 9pm. Im cancelling my membership for this reason.

Let me start off by saying I was a member since it opened up. I also just go to the gym to workout (no pool, classes, etc.)I left the Hyde Park location for the same reason I am about to complain about at this location. Dirty, messy and poor machine maintenance. Not to mention expensive for a name, signature that holds no significance.I have since joined Crunch South Tampa and so far they are on top the maintenance of the facility. And the kicker here is, it is only $10 - mind blowing right!

I have had mediocre experiences as my 7 years as a customer of this gym but after purchasing the 3 year deal for $1,000ish, I was then locked into a $30/month for access to every LA Fitness in the country (which sounds like a great deal - and it was certainly good enough to keep me from looking elsewhere).Now with COVID, Ive spent thousands of dollars building a home gym and can no longer justify spending an additional monthly fee.I have called three separate times and no one is capable (or willing) to process my cancellation (even when I called during 9 AM - 3 PM, when a manager is onsite).I have resorted to getting a new credit card from Chase so they can no longer charge me and I pity the poor salesperson who calls me to update my card information on file when it does not process because I will have something to say!Business Ethics 101: Dont mess with peoples money!

I enjoyed my time at LA Fitness. The employees were nice and inviting. I did not get bothered to try and join because I was a guest which was great ! The fitness center has everything one would need and more to exercise, swim or relax . This must have been one of the premier facilities. This fitness center was clean, had a pool, jacuzzi, sauna and racquetball courts. I actually saw a cleaning crew cleaning my entire visit . I dont know if that is their daily practices but it was surely a pleasure seeing everything being cleaned continuously. I would go back just for the jacuzzi and sauna. In my opinion I definitely recommend this LA Fitness Center. Unfortunately I have not been to others because I do not go to fitness facilities in general because once again in my opinion its not worth the money . If I want to exercise I can do it at home as well as swim in my community pool. However this center definitely has it ALL !!

As an avid mountain biker I considered myself extremely fit. I always assumed the achy knees and the occasional injury were just part of my sport. A separated shoulder last summer at Tahoe had me looking for strength training as part of my rehab. At LA Fitness I hooked up with one of the top personal trainers in the country, Chris Anastasi. His initial assessment was that my muscle strength was merely an extension of the bikes drive train. The rest of my muscles were underdeveloped, my flexibility, core strength, and range of motion were horrible. I even walked bent over as if I were still sitting on the bike. In just 5 months he remodeled my muscle frame so that I have much more control of the bike on gnarly downhills and new muscles that add tremendous power to my climb. As an added surprise he built up the supporting muscles of my knees. I now have knees of iron - good by knee injuries. I thought I had good core muscles but they too were victims of the repetitive movements of bike peddling. I now can unleash the power of a more dynamic core with a much wider power band that not only allows me to push my bike with a hell of a lot more power but I have solid, strong control when things get harry. Whether youre a mountain biker like me or a roadie, you will be blown away when you find out how much farther you can push your game and avoid injuries once you get into a program like this. Show up - or fall behind!

Dudes charged me $21 for a 24hr (“day pass”). I tried coming back the next morning and they said without the print out they can’t allow me back. 👎

Great gym. Extremely good pool with salty water.When I first entered I notice that they have a lot of towels all over the place, in every corner. But it’s not an administration fault. It’s fault of those idiots who were given a free towel.I worked out in two other locations in St Pete, and definitely can say that this location is way way better than those two.

If I could rate LA Fitness 0 out of 5 stars I would. I feel lied to and misled by this organization. The membership service team was not only dishonest concerning their cancellation and refund policy, but they reassured me in person of their terms which proved to be incorrect. I value transparency and honesty in a gym and sadly the LA Fitness Signature Club in Tampa does not value either in their customer relationships. I highly advice anyone considering this gym to look elsewhere. They will lie to your face.

Was a loyal customer coming here when they first opened. I just moved back to Tampa and now they want to charge a $100 initiation fee, + $45 monthly + another $50 annually. LA never had an annual fee before.According to the membership guy, apparently 5 people who came in before me today got $0 initiation fees but I’m “not lucky enough to get one.”They claim that the monthly fee “keeps the lights on” and the annual “pays for renovations” even though they never had annual fees before. They also pretend that “all other gyms in the country have both monthly and annual fees” but in the decade I’ve had gym memberships (6 years of which at LA) I’ve never paid annually in addition to monthly.Side note: Nice to see that 5 years after opening they still haven’t figured out how to keep up with keeping clean towels in stock.

2016:This is a very clean gym and the staff are pretty friendly. But it is super expensive. If Im going to be paying 10$ more for the Signature gym, I really feel like it my membership should be valid at ALL LA Fitness gyms. But other than that, I really do enjoy this gym. I go for a 2 mile run on my lunch break every day, so its awesome that there are like 20+ treadmills. I honestly have never gone to any other floor besides the first since starting 2 months ago, but the bathrooms and locker rooms are always clean. Im usually there right smack in the middle of the day and they are always quick and polite and always have towels of some size (once they ran out of smalls, but had large. Not the end of the world in my opinion) and theyre in good clean condition. My only true gripe is that for what Im paying, I dont get access to multiple sites, but this is a great gym so far.update 2017: for everyone saying cancelling the membership is a hassle, I literally just cancelled in 5 minutes. so this gym gets a 5 star rating from my previous 4 stars. I loved coming here, but with my new schedule, I just couldnt make it (or at least not for long enough blocks of time to merit a 50$ fee). I walked in, said Id like to cancel, and it was done. I think the key is getting in before your next bill is due (i came in a week before my next withdrawal).

I have been a member for 17 years since I moved to Tampa in 2002 and it was called Lifestyle fitness in Hyde Park in a temporary location! I love the Signature LA fitness on S Dale Mabry. The signature benefits, convenient location, towels, pool, spin room, kids club, sauna and spa. Especially the dedicated and inspiring fitness instructors such as Wendy Ryan and her Friday morning spin class that is outstanding and one of the reasons why I maintain my membership. What I Dislike: no bathrooms on the 2nd floor, no water bottle filler at the water fountain(requires two hands free to fill a water bottle and leads to frequent water spills on the floor), no fans in the spin room, and no spinner to quickly wring out water from wet bathing suits. I miss Les Mills and the creativity that the instructors used to have. Even though there is plenty of room in the spin room, they are not allowed to turn off the lights, play their own music, nor use mats on the floor to get a well rounded work out. Some of these small additions, would make a good gym into a GREAT gym! I understand that fans were removed from the spin room due to safety reasons, but it is necessary to have good ventilation and airflow during aerobic classes. If overhead fans are not possible, then safe stationary fans placed strategically need to be implemented.

This gym charges $60 a month because it is a signature gym. Very dirty gym!!!! Upstairs is so hot. Ask them yesterday to please turn on fans. Guy came up and said the outlets are not working. Didn’t bother to plug in other outlet. Here now and still almost 80 degrees

The bathrooms are dirty all the timeTwo friends tested positive for covid 19 and they do not check the temperature in the gym, only a mask and not at all.

The Management is well below the worst I have seen! No people skills, lack of Knowllege to what makes your club a signiture Club - Did not have the answer !? Unaware of what is going on in the Club. The whirl pool has been broken for over 2 Months, and Managers would lie about what & when it will be in working condition. The mens Sauna is FILTHY! Manager was told about it numerous times and nothing done! Please corporate, Please get involved! Thank You.

Hands down, this is the best/nicest LA Fitness that I have ever been to. This place is huge and has tons of up to date, well functioning equipment. The cardio floor is massive. I have never seen so many stairclimber in one place.They even have towel service.The best part are their hours. They open at 4 a.m. week days and 7 a.m. on weekends. I wish my location had great hours like this.

I have no idea how this is an upgrade. There’s no soap in the showers, there are bugs in the bathroom and wet towels all over the floor. I don’t blame the cleaning crew. This is a management issue.
