They are not friendly. Denied me and my 2yr toddler son at door for Xmas event at Urban Grace Church today. It was open until 5pm I was there outside in rain at 3:30 they came outside an said they were closing early at 4pm..This is totally unacceptable due to the fact there was PLENTY of items left but they (staff) didnt want to stay any longer..We stood outside in line watching as staff came out with plenty of bags full of Xmas things.. So my kids & I were denied Xmas help this year, as well as other families with kids in rain.. I am extremely APPALLED by them and I will be spreading the word about them. They might be better at some things to help community but today was not a good experience with them at all!!!
To Sister Ro Hunter. I don’t know if you remember me but I was one of the ladies in line with you for the presents. They hooked ME up but I did see everything and I just don’t get it but it wasn’t holy like whatsoever. I felt HELLA bad! I’m so sorry that happened to you girl. I tried to talk them into letting you in. After you left they let someone else new in after they turned you away. I thought that was so messed up girl and was just confused by them people. I also want to add I think you handled the situation well. Evilness shown from others can easily spread and run off and fuel fires! They need to understand Gods people makes mistakes but to not stand in correction does them no good themselves and who they intend to be, and need to display the empathy they would want shown to them. I am truly sorry that happened to you and I just want you to know that someone DOES care! God bless you and yours eternally.
Honestly I am completely appalled by the actions of the owners. I had originally went there trying to get help with clothing so I could find a job, they still had me fill out paperwork even after I didnt find any clothes that fit. And when they found out I was the out of work computer tech and graphic design artist they employed me as a volunteer to do a poster flyer for a recent event. The owner Jeanette was constantly bothering me to get the flyer done even though I was letting her know I may not have time to work on it because I was in dire need of finding a job because I needed to pay my rent, she then told me that they help with rent and then I didnt need to worry about anything, once the flyer was complete I sent it to her I never heard from her again, and when I attempted to get ahold of her for help with rent because supposedly they help with rent and she had told me I didnt need to worry about it she wouldnt even answer my calls or my text messages or my emails, and when I had my caseworker from Tacoma Housing Authority contact her she picked up the phone immediately and pretended like she didnt know who I was, when the flyer was brought up and it was brought up that she may have offered to help me with rent she immediately started stonewalling and saying that I never got anything and paper and she never gave me anything in writing stating that she would help me which was true. The fact that this establishment calls itself a Christian organization is laughable, they are in it for the profit and it was very obvious with my working with her she has no qualms about bending the rules to avoid having to pay any cash out to anybody for any reason. The reality of the matter is that this is another nonprofit organization abusing the system, collecting money to help people they dont actually intend on helping an offering help to those who help them with absolutely no follow through on their end, they are evil, they are not of God.
I figured I would add that I would have to agree with Ivan, the owners are quite 2 faced. If you want to donate, or offer assistance, donate to organizations like The Tacoma Housing Authority, or Associated Ministries, two non-profits that dont operate outside the law and actually provide needed services to everyone, not just African-Americans.
Good folks and willing to help those who want to mak a difference
The best organization of its kind in the Tacoma area.
They threaten to kick people out all the time. Two face comes to mind, when in public or at there house.
Great service for the community.
