Louis and Dr Gerard really acre about our furry babies. Dr Gerard REALLY takes the time to explain and summarize what happened during EACH visit.

I recently visited Dr. Gerards office after I found one of our neighborhood cats was sick. He and Lois are amazing. He was knowledgeable, empathetic, and helped me put together a plan to get this sweet cat healthy. Lois helped facilitate the whole process and even called at 8pm one night to check in after we had another cat neutered. What an amazing team! We will definitely be staying with this outstanding practice. Thank you!

Called to ask a question about my pet. Lois was RUDE and unprofessional. I am glad that I discovered this ahead of time because I would never come here now and I would never recommend this place! It is bad enough the stress that you have with an older dog, and then you cant even ask a question to see if you can get an appointment! What does COVID have to do with my dog? Are you afraid that my dog may transmit it? It is okay. I will take my services elsewhere. If you cant be compassionate, find another job!

Gizzy my little Chihuahua, wasnt feeling well and we came to Dr. Gerard and he is the most through vet and Lois is always so kind and treats your pets as if they were there own. Dr. Gerard takes his time explaining what is/was wrong and how to prevent/cure it. They dont rush you out the door or try to sell you overpriced, unnecessary products, tests, services, or prescription recovery food. I highly recommend this establishment. Even when my little Dezi passed away the staff gave me time after they were closed to say my good byes and helped me with the arrangements with Mr. Bullock. I cannot say enough positive words about this establishment. You are more than a number there you really are a member of their extended family!!!

I took my new dog Bella to AVH today for the first time. They were Great. My previous vet could not see him till Monday. I really wanted to get her in before that. I had a bad experience at a local shelter. I called this morning and they fit me in today. They were Friendly Helpful and reasonably priced. Dr. Gerard spoke with and told me what to expect with my new dog. It felt like I had been going there for years and it was truly a pleasure to do business with them. I am very happy to have found them and looking forward to bringing Bella in the future.

Lois is ungodly rude. Only lets employees do things if they are authorized, like she has a god complex. Lois is the definition of a Karen.

In response to the individual who had an interview with Lois- be thankful you were not offered the position. I worked for Dr. Gerrard and (unfortunately) his wife Lois in 2013 or 2014. I am not joking when I say it was a traumatic and psychologically abusive working environment.Their “training” period involved extensive coursework written by the founder of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard. They also had the Scientology “Tone Scale” hanging in their back hallway which Lois would defer you to often. Having worked in the veterinary field for years prior to this it seemed absurd that the training had little to do with veterinary medicine but instead was about indoctrination.Lois was the epitome of a condescending control freak and even required her female employees to wear sports bras, white tube socks, earrings and makeup at all times.Do not support this clinic as long as Lois is present. It is clear from the reviews and the responses to the negative reviews regarding Lois that Dr. Gerrard is well aware of his wife’s volatile temperament and continues to enable her to abuse their staff. You have been warned.

Fantastic vet and staff. They really care and it shows. I had an emergency this weekend and they were outstanding. Highly recommended.

I rarely write reviews but after my last encounter, I though I’d share. I have been going here since February because of its cleanliness, location, and the very helpful/knowledgeable Dr. Girard. He has been great to my pup and I am always pleased with his professionalism and service. Mrs. Lois, on the other hand, has been rude on multiple occasions. She mostly seems visibly/verbally annoyed and inconvenienced when we’re arranging appointment dates. It’s frustrating especially when she doesn’t communicate flexibility effectively. I came an hour before closing and she clearly didn’t know how to handle her attitude or multiple customers under pressure. Today I left there feeling insulted after arranging a surgery for my pup. I’m only returning to get the surgery done, but the customer service here is not where it should be. I’m highly disappointed. 3 stars only because the person we all come to see actually does a very good job.

Ive been to other vets closer to my home, but I ended up coming back to Dr. Gerard because he is by far the best. Knowledgeable and trustworthy, I never want to go anywhere else with my fur babies.

I took my dogs to this office for several years and was overall happy with the veterinarian’s level of care.The two negative aspects of this business consist of the cost of their service and dealing with the receptionist who doesn’t know how to interact with paying customers at all.

Hands down the most thorough vet care and professionalism. Mrs Lois the receptionist is always willing to help and offer support. Dr Gerard is extremely skilled and doesn’t approach cases with a cookie cutter answer. You won’t find compassion like theirs at many practices. We appreciate their attention to detail and focus on the patient. I’ve seen many reviews where someone called in wanting a price....well it’s not about price....it’s about the level of care you receive....that’s why you don’t get a box answer. He’s always been willing to work within what we were able to do. All being said, they’ve been there for us for over a decade, rejoiced in our successes and grieved with us in our losses. He’s far beyond what you normally find at a general practice vet. You won’t regret becoming a client.

We take our mini goldendoodle and kitten to Dr. Gerard, and I couldn’t ask for a better vet! He always listens to our concerns, takes his time explaining directions in detail, and was very accessible when we had a small emergency one night after hours. Ms. Lois is an incredibly caring receptionist and goes above and beyond for our pets. I’m so grateful we chose to take our little guys here; We will miss them when we move next year!

We have taken our three dogs to this vet for a few years now and they are wonderful. Dr. Gerard is patient, very knowledgeable, and makes sure you understand your pets condition. Lois and the rest of the staff is very kind and supportive. Ive never had a problem getting my dogs an appointment. I recommend Dr. Gerard to everyone we talk to in need of a vet.

My wife and I live in Jacksonville but were visiting our daughter in Sumter. While our grandson was walking our small dog, Pumpkin, she was attacked by a large dog and suffered several injuries. We chose Advanced Veterinary Hospital for emergency treatment simply because they were close to our daughters house but, WOW, were we fortunate to have made that choice. Dr. Gerard was absolutely fantastic and his compassion for helping animals was quite obvious. Ive dealt with many good veterinarians over the years, but Dr. Gerard is the BEST I have ever experienced. So thank you to the fine staff and, most of all, to Dr. Gerard for the wonderful treatment of Pumpkin. By the way, I thought the charges for an emergency treatment on a Saturday, which included an X-ray, other diagnostics and medications, was very reasonable. The pet owners in Sumter are certainly fortunate to have Advanced Veterinary and Dr. Gerard in their area!

The receptionist is not a very desirable person. On all of the occasions that Ive come in, shes been short and upset with me for no reason at all! Seems like she doesnt care for us or our pets and only cares about the money we can give her. I dont recommend this place at all.The doctor, however, is very knowledgeable and will help you out. Hes the only reason i would even consider going back.

I highly recommend this vet. The staff is wonderful and Dr. Gerard is phenomenal. He helped me so much with my cat suffering from CKD and was great even after she died. They were always able to get me in when my cat took a turn for the worst. I only wish I could take Advanced with me to Georgia; they are the thing I will miss most about Sumter.

Lois handles the front office very well with all the aspects of the business she handles. Dr. Gerard is very thorough in how he explains everything so you completely understand all the procedures they plan on taking care of for your pet! Sometimes its a longer wait than youd like, but its probably because hes being just as thorough with someone elses pet! Id definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a vet!!

Within the last 2 years I have took over 20 animals to Dr.G, as well as a few other vets here in Sumter. By far he is the most caring, understandable animal doctor I have met. He explains everything down to how to read the medicine dropper, xrays, test results, and you pets over all conditions. Never do I leave there wondering how to do something, or what the next step is, with broken bones, abscess eyes, embedded claws or any other condition ive found strays with, he is awesome and very informative. We need more vets like Dr.Gerard

Weve been going to Dr. Gerard with our two cats for a few years now. We find him very thorough and you can tell he really cares about our furbabies. He and Lois have been nothing but kind, courteous, professional, and compassionate in their care of our cats and I would recommend this practice to anyone.

I was called in to apply for a position at this office. The doctor was so nice on the phone and we had a great conversation but the next day i came in and applied for the position they had open at the moment, the lady that was at the front desk was so rude and ignorant. I have worked in customer service for 10 years and i would of never treated someone so rude and smart mouth like she did. Now i see why they cant keep no one because of her. I hope the doctor sees what shes doing one day and get her straight. No one should have to put up with her like i did.

The veterinarian is very good. He explains in detail everything you need to know about your pet. Works with clients on a variety of treatment options.

I tried to give this place a chance today, unfortunately my experiance started and ended with a call with the receptionist. I called inquiring about an estimate on a specific test i wanted done on my pup and she refused to give me any sort of estimate, told me the vet will decide whether or not i can have this test done or not. (wanted a fatty tumor tested) I mentioned that other vets i called looking for estimates gave me the price for this test and she told me she thinks it would be best if i went to another vet and this wasnt a good fit. She also told me i must be having a bad day because i was acting like something was wrong with me when i asked to speak to the vet myself. She told me theres no way the vet will talk to me unless i pay an exam fee and come in. I even told her i understand he could recommend a different test or other options and its an estimate not a set price but still she wouldnt let me speak to anyone else and recommended i go somewhere else.This was very disappointing to me because maybe i would have loved the vet but how rude and unprofessional the front desk is says a lot about a place and its environment. Personally i will not pay to bring my dog somewhere where anyone is rude to me and tells me there is something wrong with me because i wish to speak to someone else like the person that owns the practice. I am amazed they are in buisness when she recommends you to seek another vet. I really hope the vet that owns this practice knows how his receptionist is treating customers and what image she is giving off of this facility. But yes i will seek out another vet regardless of the vets abilities because i do not want deal with his front desk.

Easy to talk to, vet is very thorough in getting what needs to be done to get the right answers for the treatment my pets need.

From the first phone contact through to our last visit before moving we were treated professionally and with great care. I would recommend them to anyone. Your animal will be taken care of well.

This poor veterinarian needs to restaff from what I read...I am looking for a knowledgable vet for my sons dog. He has been going here for puppy shots. I called about setting up boarding through Thanksgiving and they werent open which was fine but the receptionist was extremely short with me. My sons dog is now having a serious issue but because I work for an amazing vet and staff I dont know whether he should continue.

I came to SC running away from hurricane Irma, my dog Mya, got sick with nose bleed, my dog been an old dog I was very concerned. I was looking for a veterinarian and due the bad weather every clinic I called was closed due the bad the bad weather, except this clinic. I explain the receptionist by phone what was happening with my dog and she told me bring your dog right away.Dr. Gerald took the time to explain me the treatment and what he thought was wrong with my dog, even before giving any treatment to my dog he let me know the costs of different laboratories to make sure I was ok with the lab test. Dr. Gerald has a lot of knowledge of his work and he has a lot of patience.Im glad we find this clinic and Dr. Gerald.

Dr Gerard is thourough, compassionate and reasonably priced (surgeries are pricey though). Hate that Lois lady at the front though!

Very, very, very POOR.I have been going to this vet for 3 years now and everytime I make an appointment it takes forever because they have the WORST hours. They take weeks off at a time or they will open at 12pm and close at 3pm or open at 3pm and close at 5pm. They are never reliable and it kills me that they never know what they are doing.About the comment on being able to rely on them in case of emergency is full of it. My mom had a dog and she was older and she called the vet for help and to get an appointment for the dog to be seen and she had been going to this vet for 20 years. (a loyal customer) When she went for the appointment days later they informed her that her baby was suffering from kidney failure and since they would be closed for the following week my mom had to either put her baby to sleep or let her suffer at home and see if she made it to when they would be back in the office. What kind of vet would do that to a loyal customer of yours....that is why she found another vet.I have found my other vet and start going this momth because I am tired of getting this vets answering service every time i call and having to wait weeks at a time to get a vet appointment and i usually call a month ahead of time anyway. They are very expensive compared to other vets in town and the other vets are better. Im just done and my babies need someone that is going to care about their wellbeing as much as i do and not just see dollar signs when i walk in the door.

Had some initial hiccups with the staff but the personal call from the Doctor made things right. I will give them another try!
