They only care about money. Please don’t take your little fur babies here, otherwise you’ll never get to see them ever again. We brought our cat in for a quarter sized dog bite to get some stitches. Within two days they already came up with a bunch of excuses as to why she wouldn’t make it. It didn’t make sense to us as to why she could die over a small dog bite. They performed surgery on her but we didn’t expect the incision to be so big! They completely tore through her entire back and unnecessarily removed tissue that didn’t need to be removed. I believe they did a terrible job just to scam us for more money, or maybe they’re not worthy enough to be certified vets. How could you do this to a harmless animal? Even our other vet couldn’t wrap his head around why they would make such a big incision for such a small wound. Again, I am not lying or exaggerating, do not bring your pets here! I will include a picture of what the back and the stitches looked like after day two of the surgery. Mind you the stitches came apart shortly after we withdrew her from the hospital. She stayed motionless the entire time at home because she couldn’t move. So these vets better have an explanation as to why the stitches would’ve rupture by themselves!
I don’t have enough words to describe the professionalism and honest concern about my pet’s health. Dr Samantha Kegge was absolutely amazing!. Today marks one month of Henry’s surgery and he is doing great.Henry had a herniated disc high in his spine with severe ataxia, he couldn’t stand or walk. His recovery was a breeze and each day he regained more strength, he walked with a help of a swag and little by little he transitioned to a regular harness. 4 weeks after surgery he stands strong, walks like a dandy and started to run. He can enjoys life again thanks to Dr Kegge and her team. We are forever thankful!
Wonderful customer service and bedside manner. They were quick taking care of my dog and explaining different options. Thank you.
Communication was great! I did not have to constantly called to receive updates. Very loving staff
Ive debated about doing this and needed to let my emotions settle before I just react. Hindsight is always 20/20 which has eased me in to knowing this is partially both my fault and also SL Veterinary Specialists fault.I took my cat here on a Sunday night and was instructed there was going to be a 2-4 hour wait, like it was going to scare me away.Sat down, went online and filled out the online application. Less than 5 minutes after submitting it, I was called back.I explained what the issue was and why I brought Tigger in that night. He wasnt acting his normal self and would kind of walk, but not straight up like a cat normally does. The doctor took him back and did, what I expect, was a visual feel/external assessment.Doctor came back and explained that he wasnt walking up right and that was probably due to a fall and something happened with his hind legs. The hind legs were hurting him and medicine would help as it healed naturally. He mentioned that without x-rays they couldnt be conclusive. (This is where I shouldve asked for x-rays, and I have to live with that). They explained they would give an injection of pain medicine and send me home with some to give him orally and to follow up with normal vet in 3 days, Wednesday. We were home within 90 minutes from when we walked through the door. I had to keep him locked away to keep him from jumping up on things, but he wasnt in a position to do that anyways. Still feel bad about that also.He did decent on Monday but his health was declining, we could just see it. We end up going to the vet Tuesday around noon and they said: we have to do x-rays, I said not a problem. The x-rays determined that the problem was actually a degenerative disc in his neck that was causing all of his pain/discomfort and everything. I obviously was not able to take my Tigger home.Again, I blame myself 50% because I shouldve asked for x-rays when the doctor mention that would be conclusive, but the doctor should have said we NEEDED to do them.Ive been here before which is why the rating is what it is, that visit was great. This is just my feelings for this particular visit.
I have dealt with Sugarland Vets for a couple of years now and the facility, Drs, & technicians are impeccable to the care they give your animals. I totally trust them with all my pets should an emergency should arrive needing their expertise. When you need the kind of care they give here you wont be disappointed. They treat your pets as their own! Love love this facility!
I am thrilled with my experience with SLVS, they have been very informative, responsive and caring every step of the process. Our sweet rescue is getting Chemo treatment and I have complete peace of mind bringing him here for his care. They have gone above and beyond, I am so very grateful! The staff is amazing! Dr. Novasad has kept us informed, thoroughly educated us on the process and we can tell he loves what he does. If youre looking for above and beyond care, this is your place!
They took care of our boy like he was their own. After dealing with a misdiagnosis this is the only place I will take my animals. They kept me up to date on his progress and i felt safe leaving him there. Thank you!
This is the 2nd time I have had to take my girl, Kayla (cat) to see them. She has a history of kidney issues. Both times they have taken Great care of all of us. The staff and vets are AMAZING. They listen and act upon the details and provide a solid response/plan of action.Kayla has fully recovered both times. In our follow up conversation with her vet, I shared that I sure do wish they provided general services as we would love to be a permanent patient.Thankful for this place as they are TRULY ANGELS and a HUGE BLESSING in a time of crisis.
Our pup got her foot caught in her kennel. Thought it was broken but wasn’t for sure. We received such a compassionate response and personable customer service. They ensured we were kept up to date on her treatment plan and the estimated pricing. We will forever be indebted to them for their exceptional service and care provided to our furbaby
Our Biewer Terrier, Cleo started have cluster seizers out of the blue! We were upset, worried and I was crying uncontrollably The front staff calmed me down and immediately took her in. At on point we were thinking we would have to put her down (didnt want her to suffer), the doctors told us no, give us more time, we will figure this out! It took a couple of days to stabilize and find just the right amount of meds to treat her. We took her home to recover and everyday is better than the next. When i think that we almost took her life, I am sick!!!! But, when I think of the doctors and staff that made us hold on, I feel blessed.Thank you Sugar Land Veterinary Specialist from the bottom of my heart. You saved my baby Cleo, who provides our home sooooo much joy!
Well-informed vet. Appreciate the phone calls. Great staff.
My initial experience was good. They were extremely busy and I had a long wait after they assessed my dog but I was fine with it. The team was really nice and kept asking me if I was comfortable or if I needed anything. During the shift change, I was concerned and went to the desk to confirm what the doctor had communicated with me. The girl at the desk, was rude, extremely short and acted annoyed I inquired. I told her that she was coming across rude and with an attitude. She immediately began cutting me off and talking over me. Rude and unprofessional was an understatement. When I finally saw the doctor, I was upset due to her rude behavior. Several of the employees there witnessed her behavior and told me to report it because it was not what the company stood for. It is unbelievable how ONE person can ruin an otherwise pleasant experience. The doctor even apologized for the employees behavior.
This place doesnt even deserve one star. Rude staff. No indication of wait time given by the person who checked us in. Two hours later after her yelling out that we were going to be next at one point, I ask whats our timeframe looking like and she says it will be another two hours at least, and I told you that when you got here. That was plain and simply, a lie. My dog was bleeding on their floor which didnt seem to be of concern to anyone there. They have only cheap wooden park benches in the lobby and expect you to sit there for hours on end. None of the vending machines work properly. The water fountains are broken and had potted plants on top of them, I guess in hopes nobody would notice. People were coming in with dogs off leash and staff said nothing. Everything I saw points to this place being very poorly managed from top to bottom, and thats not even getting into the crazy high prices which thankfully I didnt pay, since they never got us in and after almost three hours we gave up and went to another vet.
The vets are fine but the managers are not professional or responsive. My dog coded during staging and l paid 1300 for the code then took her elsewhere to be staged without sedation. Then my dog had surgery and her surgery site opened and another 2600 and numerous trips and bills for bandage changes. Management refused to discount any services. I have spent close to 7500 and am disabled along with being a cancer survivor snd a medical professional.I have had at least twenty pets in my lifetime but after this question if l will be able to share my compassion with another furry friend.
From the initial call SLVS was very helpful. We were told about prices and care as well as options from the start. The treatment they offer ranges from loving your pet up when you leave, to detail reports and videos explaining everything, simply the best we could hope for. We felt very well taken care of especially our pet and will forever be thankful. The MRI showed a different picture then the referral CT from our vet and we thankful they did further diagnose before treating with SRS. We did the Video Consultation and were very impressed by the notes they took as well as listened to help guide us from a far with treatment options. We did not do SRS like planned, but they sent the molds with us and were open to helping from a far as we drove to seek care. I would recommend them to anyone needing help with their furr baby!
SLV did everything they could for my very sick pup. The staff was awesome and made him very comfortable and communicated well with me. In the end, he did not make it, but I know they gave me every option possible and listened and walked me through the decisions every step of the way.
These may be the kindest people I have ever met at a clinic. I guess when you work the night shift you automatically know that your cases will be an emergency situation. Not only can you tell they have a real love for animals but they also have the soft skill to help soothe the humans. Amazing place. Super super impressed with every single person I encountered.
Sadly, our dog Jake was suffering from cancer and died today. Linda, Dr. Trevino, and the rest of the staff were professional and empathetic in helping us through Jakes death today. We wanted to express our gratitude for the assistance you all provided to us today. Andrew and Kay Adams
Totally impressed with my interactions with this vet hospital. They are very thorough and punctual. Their updates and insight have made a huge difference in the health of my dog. I drove 3.5 hours to take advantage of their Neurology department and I will do it over and over thanks to their level of service and knowledge.
SLVS figured out what was wrong with our dog after our family vet misdiagnosed him. They were very thorough, answered all of our questions and provided answers and solutions. Biscuit is doing so much better and had wonderful care here. I would highly recommend them if you need emergency pet care. I am just so happy my dog is feeling like himself again! Also the staff and vets were very polite and thoughtful!
I previously went to a different 24 hour vet clinic and was very displeased with how they treated my poor dog who was in pain. I was out for 5 hours in the middle of the night and in the beginning the nurses and receptionists refused to tell me that my dog was going to be okay. Communication was terrible and they handled my tiny Chihuahua harshly, and worst of all; they were VERY slow. It was very clear they only cared about the money. But that was not the case at this clinic! The nurses were very kind, compassionate and enthusiastic about their work! they were very gentle and explained everything splendidly. They took action quickly and I truly felt as if my baby girl was in the best hands possible! They also called me twice to give me updates on my dog whom stayed over night in their care, communication is wonderful here!! I dont usually make reviews, but Im really grateful for the nurses quick and hard work! Thank you! If anything ever happens I will definitely visit this place as its definitely my first option!
We had essentially no wait time. We had barely sat down before someone came out to assess Missy. Dr. quickly diagnosed her neck problem. After waiting for blood work, we received meds and instruction and headed home.
I brought my dog in for an open wound as an emergency visit. The vet on call was not very compassionate and would not wrap her wound if I didnt pay for certain things. So we basically left there the same way we came, with my dogs wound open and bleeding. What kind of place allows that to happen. From there my dog began to fade fast. We ended up taking her to another vet hospital where she was diagnosed with a ruptured tumor. That is something the vet at the Sugar Land hospital misdiagnosed, she said it was an ulcer and wasnt considered urgent. Well it was very urgent because my dog died. I am beyond heartbroken and devastated, she was our family. I will never bring another animal I have here again.
If I could give a review of 10 stars I would in a heart beat. My 14 yo 8 lb dog had to get an emergency surgery to address her inguinal hernia that had affected her small intestine. Needless to say, if they hadnt done the surgery when they did, my pup would have passed. Our vet had told us we needed to find a specialist not only for the type of surgery but also because of my dogs older age.At the time this all happened, I was based 3 hours away while my dog resided with my parents. Because my mom wasnt getting back to me with information as quickly as I was wanting, I took the matter into my own hands and decided to call Dr. Sherwood myself. Dr. Sherwood and his team were fantastic in keeping me in the loop. They communicated everything from the events that lead to my dogs admission to expectations with pre-op/surgery/post-op. They called with updates during the surgery as well as while my dog was under observation post-surgery.When we finally got to take her home, they called to check in the next morning. The front desk was readily available to answer all my questions and concerns (yes, even past midnight, and I called A LOT).At the end of the day, Dr. Sherwood and his team saved my dog, and I am forever grateful. They were honest and compassionate when discussing the harsh reality of my dogs delicate condition. 100/100 would recommend!!!!!Its been about 3 months since my dogs surgery, and you would not have known that she had such an extreme surgery done. She was back to her normal self within a few weeks post-op, and her scar is barely noticeable!**I will say if your pet had some sort of procedure and you call them after hours, its best to quickly state who your dog is and what procedure they had so whoever answers can find your pets file and help you accordingly. Otherwise, youll get some generic info thats not relevant to your pets condition! I realized this as I was making my many phone calls. Its also helpful if you keep track of who youve all talked to and what they said, so you can relay that information to others or ask for those specific people (especially if they were involved in your pets care!).
Our vet found a tumor in our 5 year old dog. After removal, the margins were not clean. We took her to Sugarland Veterinary Specialists for a scar resection so that we could make certain that the tumor was fully removed. The staff was caring, compassionate and they explained everything to us so that a 5 year old could understand (which is good, because I dont listen so well.)
My dog had a seizure one night out of the blue. We rushed her to Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists and we were so happy with how they took care of her. All of the people we spoke to were supportive and kind. They let us park up front so they could use a gurney to come and get my dog which made me feel so much better about someone other than me moving her. They instantly made me feel like they were capable and calm. They let me see her when she was stable before I left her for 24 hour observation. Their billing was reasonable and simple to deal with. I appreciated that because of how worried I was for my dog and how little I was able to think of anything else. During the 24 hours they updated me 3 times since their policy is to update in the morning and evenings. In the next few days whenever I had questions I called and each time either the doctor or some one at the front desk got all my questions answered.
Sam was coughing and I was so afraid I was going to lose him. When I arrived Sam was whisked out my arms and escorted inside. I was updated, questioned, and kept informed along the way. I had video of what I saw and heard at home and the nurse came out and really addressed my concerns. I was so afraid. Dr. Trevino spent 40 minutes with me on the phone answering my concerns and assuring me Sam was going to be fine. This is our number one emergency stop.Sams person
Dr. Emily Davis at Sugarland Vet Specialists is amazing. My chihuahua had a life-threatening autoimmune brain disease. Dr. Davis acted quickly to see my dog and to provide a combination of treatments that put my dog into remission and saved her life.
I was devastated when my Irish Setter started showing signs of instability. Dr. Kegge and her staff were so knowledgeable and caring. They spelled out every detail in a way that helped me understand what was going on in my furry friends body. I felt very comfortable putting his care in their hands. He is now on a regimen of antibiotics and I can see changes in his stability and demeanor. So thankful I was referred to them by my local Vet. I would highly recommend them.
We used SLVS for emergency care on a Sunday morning. We had excellent service from the receptionist, from the doctor and the technician who discharged us. I sat in the waiting room for a couple of hours and watched how well they treated every person who walked through the door. I would highly recommend SLVS for emergency care. I dont use them as a regular veterinary service as they are too far for us. However, I definitely would if I lived closer to them.
If you ever need to take your pet to an emergency veterinarian hospital come here. They ask to me what happened to my cat. They told me what I needed to pay, I payed the quoted amount. Remember this is an emergency hospital the prices are reasonable for what type of surgery my kitty needed. They diagnose the problem, scheduled surgery the same day. All went well with surgery, They told me they needed to give me a $2000 refund, I was so happy they are honest. Everyone was friendly, doctors were very clear on what needed to be done after surgery they explain everything. If I ever need to take my pets again to an emergency veterinarian hospital I’m coming back here
Staff was very friendly and professional, but I found the internal medicine doctor (Dr. Medici) to be not very empathetic or good with communicating information. My cat was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor, and I was given very sparse information on her condition and very little guidance on anything we could do to try to her help out. I felt like I had to know the right questions to ask to get any information out of the doctor, and since Im not a doctor, I obviously dont know all the right questions or what we should be doing in this situation. I needed information, guidance, and sympathy and felt like that was all lacking.I realize in some cases there may not be much you can do, but It was like the attitude was Yeah, shes dying, good luck with that.... I would have thought for the thousands of dollars we spent on initial work-up and CT scan, they could have at least provided us with some additional information on palliative care, experimental treatments that might be available, and/or supplements or something that might at least make her more comfortable in what time she has left. Maybe Im being overly critical due to the obviously horrible news we received, but if I had another pet with a suspected tumor, I would probably not go back to this vet for the reasons mentioned.
I had to bring my senior dog in for near-fatal dog bite. They were quick to get her stabilized and gave me detailed updates about her progress throughout the day. Their honesty, compassion, and empathy helped me get through the traumatic situation. Against all odds, my dog was able to pull through and is still living her best life. Thank you for saving Dipper.
I have used the Oncology Dept for my pup diagnosed with lymphoma. The whole team has been outstanding in their care of my dog and with communication to me. If you need a specialist I would highly recommend this group of vet specialists!!
They are literally life-savers! Our cat, Sebastian, swallowed a needle and thread. They came up with a creative, fast surgical solution that quickly removed the needle safely. Sebastian has made a full recovery and is very happy. We were thrilled with his care. Thank you again!
Everyone at Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists was so kind and caring, from the people I spoke to on the phone, to the vet tech, and the doctor. We adopted a sweet, but very sick dog 5 months ago. She has been to our local vet over a dozen times and still no answers on all her issues. Our dog has vet anxiety (understandably) and everyone was so kind and patient with her. The vet took the time to explain all the test results and the tech has answered all our follow-up questions. So thankful we are one step closer to figure out how to help this sweet dog.
Very caring and knowledgeable. Explained things in a way that was very easy to follow and understand. No pressure to make any decisions. Very glad we went there.
I took my 4 month old female dachshund slinky around 7 am. They were quick and professional from the moment I was outside so they could get her and start checking what was wrong with her. They texted me a picture of slinky to put me at ease and I greatly appreciate that. I 10/10 recommended this place for all your furbabies needs. Slinky is doing great thanks to the professionals
I took my very sick cat to the Sugarland Veterinary Specialists with little hope that they might be able to save him. He was with them for 4 days, and as far as Im concerned, they performed a miracle. Two things most impress me about the emergency care center. First, every single person there genuinely cares about the animal. This was evident in every communication with them, as well as in the demeanor of my cat when they brought him out to me to come home.Second, the communication is beyond exceptional. I received updates on my pets condition multiple times daily, from vets who sounded more like pet owners talking about their own cat. They explained every detail of my cats condition, his prognosis, treatment plan, and progress -- and anything I didnt understand they explained in a way that I could. They were honest with me when they werent sure he would improve, but they told me in a way that didnt worry me that they werent going to do everything they could to save him. There is no question about whether I would go back -- I would in a heartbeat. And Id highly recommend them to anyone who needs pet care. Youll not just be getting a vet, youll be getting an extended family you can trust with your pets life.
Was happy with the vets and techs. My only complaint is that the major medication was on was rated for up to 33 pounds and my dog weighed a little over 40. I am concerned that this lower does (per weight) did not help him and we ended up losing him 5 days after discharge.
My dog, Dancer, came to SLVS for hyperparathyroidism, needing surgery. I could not be happier with the care my dog received, nor could I be happier with the way the office, Dr. Sherwood, and the surgical staff communicated with me. I know there had to be times when I was a pain--not because I was trying to be difficult, but because my boy is a huge part of my life, and I needed reassurance. They were kind, compassionate, empathetic, and understanding. If I could give them a thousand stars, I would!
My cat was having joint issues and SL Vet Specialist were able to schedule him for surgery the following day. They kept me informed with emails and pictures, showed me how to do exercises with him, and explained everything that was going on. At the following up they were just as patient and answered all my questions. Highly recommend!
Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists saved our dog. We will be forever grateful to the amazing staff and doctors who took such great care of our dog and kept us informed of every single detail. Without a doubt it is the best place to take your dog in case of an emergency, they save lives!!
Excellent patience services! Thank you for giving Manchas a boost when he needed it the most. I can not thank your team enough. My decision to bring him here was solely on the phone call I had with one of the receptionist I could genuinely feel the concern in her voice. Manchas, My family and I can not thank yall enough. May all the patients that come through your doors feel the care that your team has for our loved pets. Happy Holidays.
Our 5 month old puppy had torn open her stitches from where she had been spayed and she was bleeding profusely. It was Saturday evening and our regular vets5 office was closed. So we took her to Sugar Land Veterinary specialists. They took her back right away. But then they came out to our ar with the estimate. $2200. And we had to pay up front before they would work on her. Then they told us she would have to spend the night, so we went home. At about 11:00 they called to tell us that they had miscalculated and had neglected to add on the fee for leaving her overnight. They wanted another $800 before they would start her surgery. Thats $3000! We were lucky because we could afford it. But I shudder to think what would have happened if we couldnt afford to pay their exorbitant fees UP FRONT. She probably would have bled to death. The work they did on her was very good and very professional. But I think their prices are way too high and their requirement of up-front payment of the total ESTIMATED cost is ridiculous.
Neuro did a fantastic job during a stressful situation when our bernedoodle began to have seizures. Very thoughtful, experienced, & understanding. Absolutely suggest
First off, we took our dog, who we thought had severe internal damage from a 6’ fall on her behind into 2 vet clinics and Gulf Coast Veterinary hospital before we brought her here. The first two places shrugged off anything and didn’t really examine her. They just prescribed anti inflammatory and pain killer medicine. The second of the two was confident it wasn’t a spider bite when I asked him what could be making her muscles tighten up they way they did. A week later she rapidly declined. Then we tried Gulf Coast after being referred priority by the second vet. We waited an hour to be checked in and they told us it would be 8 hours before they could see her and her priority wasn’t high enough. We left there and went to Sugar Land. They immediately brought her in. Called an hour later and said here are your estimates for leaving her overnight so they could figure out what’s wrong with her. They called that evening and suggested it was an insect bite of some sort after thoroughly examining and testing her.Sugar Land was super informative and communicative in the entire 3 days she was there to figure out what was wrong with her. They worked as a team and got me answers and got me a solution for Jenna.Best place to go. Ever.
The receptionist, Miss Kathleen was very nice and helpful. Believe the vet who examined my dog Rocky, made an inaccurate assessment of Rockys condition and made a recommendation for unnesessay treatment, primarily I believe to generate revenue. Fortunately, as the experienced dog owner that I am, and with the knowledge I have, the visit came to a conclusion financially best for me and the health of my dog.😐😐😐🐕🐕🐕.Kenneth J. Sielskip.s. They work to make money, not because they care about your pet and want to make your pet well. Stay away unless you have lots and lots of money to spend.
We brought our puppy Pepper in last month with an unknown illness at 1:30 AM on a Tuesday morning. Pepper was diagnosed with Parvo ( this is after her getting all her puppy shots completed, by the way ).The staff was responsive, caring, and attentive, and Pepper was put into basically a doggie ICU.She is cured now - they did fantastic work ! They kept us updated and all from the vets to the techs were first class.Premium service and people do not come cheap, but it is also true that you get what you pay for.For us, and our pup, it was worth it - we are glad we made that choice.
Dr. Sherwood and staff are amazing. My 2 year old mini boxer tore both her TPLO. Dr. Sherwood explained and answered my questions about her procedure and my concerns. Staff was wonderful in emailing me pictures and calling with updates. Her first surgery they called a week after to check in on her.
WOW, I am impressed ! My vets office had given me this number and name in case of an emergency and good thing I remembered, Dr Trujillo was wonderful, explained everything where a normal person can understand,, the staff very professional, the clinic was very clean, the price was reasonable especially it was a sat. and I did not want my doggie to suffer (family member). I highly recommend this clinic, oh and I got lost and called the clinic and the lady that answered the phone stayed on line until I found the clinic. I could not have asked for more. So happy I know where the place is
Arriving at 6:50 and leaving at 11: 00 is total unacceptable. Sat in my vehicle without any communications whatsoever for three hours. Parking lot had at least 12-15 other vehicles. Staff (understaffed) was very courteous once they were able to communicate. If they had a real emergency with maybe 3 pets needing care at the same time—someone’s beloved one would never have survived. Come to find out that there was only one vet on duty. Is this a way to conduct business? I think not. At the very least time expectations should have been communicated at check in. Don’t let the client set his/her expectation. If I had been told that I would be there for almost 4 hours then I would have bee been prepared to do so. But to sit there for so long without any knowledge of when to expect the promised phone call is not the professional way to do business.
Was referred to Sugar Land Veterinary Specialist by out local vet because my 5 year old lab suddenly couldnt walk. They worked her in due to severity, or it would have been a 2.5 week wait. They did an MRI and learned she had a ruptured disc in her back. Immediately did surgery and kept me updated every step of the way. They sent text updates and pictures over the two nights she was there. Dr. Davis was amazing and made sure we were very well educated when my Shelby came home with us. I would highly recommend SLVS to anyone who needs emergency care or specialist for their furbaby. I would make the 1.5 drive again for help.
I am so impressed with the care that Scout received at Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Care. Following a visit to his regular vet, where he received a new treatment for allergies, Scout was not able to walk or stand on his own. The vet kept him for observation, saying that this had not been observed at all during his visit. Our regular vet called into SLVS for council from a veterinary neurologist there, and recommended that we take Scout there to receive care from a specialist. We did have the option of having him transported there, but his vitals were stable, so they gave us the option of driving him there. This was at 4:30 on a Friday afternoon, and from the time we arrived until the time Scout was discharged, I was extremely impressed with the communication of the doctors, techs, and staff. After a tech came to our car to take Scout into the office, she let us know that we would receive phone call updates with all new information on our sweet boy as well as treatment costs and options. I received the first call from staff in the office to make sure that they had our correct information, then, we received another call from the tech who took Scout to hear about our concerns, and then the veterinarian called about 30 minutes after we arrived to let me know he had seen Scout and to give his recommendations. Scout ended up having to spend the night after blood word found that he was dehydrated. We found that Scout had not had a reaction to his allergy treatment, but unrelated canine idiopathic vestibular disease. Scout was released the next morning after blood work showed improvement, he had shown slight improvement in being able to stand on his own, and after he was able to eat. I spoke with another vet the next day who explained this information as well as Scouts long-term prognosis. We felt very knowledgeable based on the level of communication that this hospital held throughout Scouts stay. One day after resting at home, Scout has shown a great deal of improvement in his ability to stand and walk on his own, and I feel secure that he is following the path to recovery that I was told before his release. I truly cant say enough about the care Scout received and the level of communication that we experienced while he was being cared for by Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists.
Great and friendly staff to both humans and animals. They even helped to keep us calm and reassured during our situation with our dog. We’re so thankful for you guys. Thanks for all you do! ❤️
We are extremely please with the care Abby (our Australian Cattle Dog) has received at Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Kegge was on top of everything immediately with getting a diagnosis and aggressively attacking the problem. Abby is diagnosed with meningoencephalitis. Under Dr. Kegge care, within days Abby showed much improvement. We are very please with Abby’s progress and the attention she has received from Dr. Kegge, the neurological staff, and office staff. Everyone has been very kind, professional, reliable and responsive to Abby’s needs.
I brought my dog in for a rather severe dog bite. When I checked in, I was told there may be a wait up to 5 hours. I thought that time frame was a bit steep, but decided to hang in there as it was a Saturday night a 8pm.First of all, they made me wait in my car. (They didnt want anyone inside because of COVID. The COVID excuse is getting a little old - we all know you would rather not have us inside and have to deal with our questions and frustration for having to sit there for hours. MD Anderson doesnt have as severe restrictions as you guys do). Secondly, I saw several people come and go with their animals in the 5-6 hours I sat there. And I do understand triage - if an animal comes in in worse condition than my dog, I understand that they have to treat the worst diagnosis first. I would want the same if I was the more critical case and I am trying to be patient. But, some of these dogs walked in and walked out. The emergency was not apparent, but I dont really know how serious it was. The fact is they were mobile. However, my dog was sitting there in a kennel for over 5 hours. They had not cleaned the wound, put antibiotic ointment on it, nothing. They had just taken her vitals to make sure she wasnt on the verge of dying and then let her sit there. She was in the exact same condition after all that time as she was when I brought her in. Really? There was no one that could have at least cleaned the wound? That was cruel and unnecessary. If you dont have enough staff to do better than that, you shouldnt advertise yourself as an Emergency Hospital. You are simply a Veterinary Hospital that takes emergencies with no promise of actually treating them on an emergency basis. While Im sure they do a fine job in the Veterinary Specialties during normal working hours, and probably after hours if you happen to be there at the right time, this is not the place to go unless it is an immediate life or death situation for your fur baby. I dont know a veterinary clinic anywhere else that would allow a dog bite victim to sit in a kennel over 5 hours without doing anything. So, you get one star only and that is for teaching me that I can go online and find out what I need to know about taking care of my fur baby until she can get in to see her regular vet who actually cares about her. Because it doesnt appear that you have much compassion at all unless the timing is right.
Being a first time dog owner is scary! Almost like having another child to take care. I brought my 16 week year old pup in for excessive vomiting, lack of movements and not eating. What I liked was they ran the necessary tests needed to figure out what was wrong with him. They were very kind and professional when updating me on information, as well as when I called to get updates. The doctors were very passionate and hopeful that whatever was in his stomach would pass through and he can poop it out. From the start to the end, it was painless and they never judged. They took good care of my baby and I never felt alone in the process.I would recommend my friends and family to come here if there’s ever an emergency with their fur babies. Even through COVID, they managed to keep you updated through every findings since you are not allowed to be in the room with your baby and for that I really thank them!
First visit with our Cody for a suspected snake bite, very well handled, knowledgeable and thorough. Very well explained over the phone. Prices were discussed to authorize, glad we found you all. Highly recommended!! Thank you !!
They treated our dog with great care and kept us informed at all times. Very thankful for the doctors and staff.
My baby girl of 12 years started to show symptoms of congestive heart failure around midnight on 3/20/21. We rushed her to Sugar Land Veterinary, however on arrival she stopped breathing and collapsed in my arms. The staff came out immediately and took her in to start CPR while pumping fluid out of her lungs. Unfortunately she had passed, and after 15min of CPR she could not be resuscitated. Obviously this was a traumatic experience and time stood still, my interactions with the doctor and nurses felt like a blur. However, they made sure I was comfortable, kept me informed and gave me the time I needed to hold her for our final goodbye. After handing her off to the nurse, we reviewed options for her afterlife and pricing. I can honestly say the service was compassionate, even though it was brief.
The only reason I’m not completely happy is when I arrived with a deathly ill puppy in anaphylactic shock, the front desk person made me fill out forms online before the would attend to my puppy. I would have handed them my credit card if requested. That was unnecessary stress for me. Otherwise they did a good job and even though I received a high estimate for care it didn’t cost nearly that much, so I received a refund. The doctors and staff kept me regularly updated all through her stay.
I had to bring in my old woofer for a 104.5 fever at 2 am Christmas morning. I was so unbelievably happy they were open despite the Holiday. The service was spectacular from start to finish and the care they gave to my pup was even better. They did a great job communicating with me through the entire process and I appreciated how upfront and transparent they were about the cost associated with our late night, holiday visit. I hope you never have the need for an Emergency Vet visit but if you do this is the place to go!
I am very impressed with Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists. Making an appointment was very easy and the staff is friendly and accommodating. They were wonderful with my cat and talked with me about all my options and worked with me through it all. I feel the staff really cares about the animals they work with and take very good care of them during the time they spend there. Thank you all so much for your continued help with my cat, Ginger.
My toy poodle was attached by a large dog and required emergency surgery and care. The staff and veterinarians were very responsive and took good care of my pet over the course of several days. They provided me with frequent calls and updates on her status and their plan of care. Unfortunately my dog died but I knew that they had done everything they could for her. I visited as frequently as I could and the staff and doctors provided me with privacy and time to be with my pet and were available to answer any questions I had. I would highly recommend the Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists & 24 Hour Emergency Care center for any emergency care your pet might require.
I was told to come at a certain time. I waited from7 am on for 2 hours.. I then was told the surgery slot was filled and ‘we can’t assure you of surgery. Please find another veterinary hospital”. This was for a brittany dog with infected, blocked kidney. DOG owners, would you ever go back? NEVER. They called a day later and apologized for the poor communication. Did that matter to me??? NEVER again.
First visit emergency Dr. Oakley and his staff were awesome.. couldnt ask for a better experience..in the end our baby had kidney failure and due to his age and not wanting him to suffer he was put to sleep and I can rest in ease knowing he was taken care of in a professional atmosphere..thanks to everyone involved in his final care...Rest in Pet Heaven Lil Joe...
Its never good when youre taking your cats to an emergency vet on the weekend. That said, SL Vet Specialists made the experience as pleasant as it could be - fast, courteous, and caring. If our pets have an urgent need for emergency medical care in the future, this is where we will be going.
This place is wonderful. I have been here twice, one for an animal who was not mine and then this past Saturday for our cat, Mr. Mittens, who had been attacked by two stray dogs. The amount of compassion and attentiveness we received were beyond our expectations. I am so thankful for the wonderful doctors and techs who work here. They worked with me regarding my financial concerns and helped my family through everything. They took very good care of my kitty and kept us updated through text and phone multiple times throughout the night and morning. I would recommend this place to anyone who is going through an emergency with their furry family member. Mr. Mittens is making a full recovery at home and even got a brand new bed for Christmas in the next coming days. :) Thank you to everyone who works here- from the person who answered our phone call at 11:00 at night, to the tech who took Mittens back, to the doctor who came in only minutes after we arrived to discuss a plan and update us on his condition, to the front desk staff who helped work through our financial worries. I am so so very thankful for everyone, so is Mr. Mittens. Thank you again!
Totally irresponsible as an emergency center for pets.My cat is pregnant and the doctor said she should be in labor in 7-9 days. But today my cat suddenly went in labor and her kitten is too small and died a few minutes later.I called this center to ask should I bring my cat to see a doctor right now and they said they cant answer any information because the mother is still in good condition and this is supposed for emergency only.I asked what should I do next and they declined to help me and hung up on me what the hell? They said nothing they can say or help and hung up.Whoever picked up the phone, she needs a training for customer service.Worst customer service that ever happened to me.Time 8:11PM Date: 6/25/21.
I brought my dog because I was redirected by the nearby vet because they said these guys would be able to take him in, and when I got to the desk I tell them the situation and they have the audacity to tell me that the ER doctor isnt working and the wouldnt be able to him in until 7 PM, the time I got there was 12pm, so that meant the ER is unavailable for a full 8 hour gap when I got there and God knows how long it has been unavailable before I got there
The veterinarians here and vet techs are very knowledgeable and very caring. They take very good care of my pets when I have to bring them in.
I had to bring my fury baby lil dog to visit the oncologist. We were treated so kindly and put at ease with every step.An important fact Id like to point out is the way they cared for my baby every step of the way treating him like he one of there own.He is normally skittish of strangers and doesnt do well. he took to them immediately and didnt mind the extra attention that they gave him which put him at ease limitting his anxiety during this process. The doctors and staff talked to me in both layman and technical terms explaining what each thing meant so that I could understand the process, spending several hours there was well worth the fact that they made sure that they could do all the tests and x-rays possible in one trip. This may not be possible for everyone, But in our case it worked out. We were fortunate in the fact that everything revealed no cancer but because of their thorough examination an underlining condition was shown of a collapsed trachea which helped diagnose the issues that he had been having for quite some time. Highly recommend them if I was ever faced with that situation again I would return
We brought a very sick kitten in for treatment. The previous vet had recommended euthanasia and, considering the state of the kitten, that wasnt a bad course of action. However, we wanted a second opinion at SLVS. It was expensive but SLVS watched over this kitten as if it was their own. Although we still do not know what caused the near death incident, we know for certain that the kitten would be deceased without SLVS. We truly appreciate the knowledge and care demonstrated by them
When my dog was bitten by another dog in the neighborhood and needed stitches, the team at SLVS were compassionate and responsive to our needs. They were able to care for my dog on a late Friday evening when our Vet wasnt available. I highly recommend them!
Dr. Garcia and Dr. Medici of the Internal Medicine department showed enormous skill and reliability in caring for my cat, Millie. They were clear and communicative every step of the way, and did their best to provide outstanding medical care. I appreciated seeing how they, along with the rest of the amazing team here, genuinely took to Millie and wanted to support us in making the right decisions for her. I cannot thank them enough and would recommend everyone to this clinic for emergency care.
Everyone at Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists was extremely professional and caring when we had to take in our 14 year old cat for what turned out to be renal failure. We did have to sit in the car for awhile due to Covid restrictions, but we were informed of this when we arrived. When they came and got Jynxie she was promptly tested and diagnosed and although the news wasn’t what we wanted to hear, we were given all of her options in a very thorough manner. We were kept informed as additional testing was performed and once the decision was made to have her put to sleep the entire staff and Drs. couldn’t have been more compassionate and thoughtful, allowing us plenty of time to say our tearful goodbyes. A week later we even received a lovely sympathy card with the signatures of everyone who had dealt with her. Thank you for taking care of our little girl and making our loss as bearable as could be expected We would definitely trust Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists again with our animals.
Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists helped my cat through an emergency where he began suddenly experiencing seizures. I was very impressed with the professionalism and quality of care SLVS offered, and would gladly rely upon their services again.
I wanted to wait until I had closure to write this review. First and foremost I work in an emergency room setting for humans and understand how ERs work as well as what fake empathy looks like. I initially called this facility and the person at the front desk was really rude on the phone to say I was crying, frantic because this is my first pet and something is clearly wrong. I know the statement “you have to bring him in before we can give any pricing.” I get that, but I know why that answer is given because as I said, I work in an ER. It’s a trap bottom line to get you in the door. Secondly, I had to bring him there because I had no other option. We checked him in, they placed us in a room and whisked him off. I hadn’t really had any communication other than to the Tech and the MD. The tech and the MD displayed what I would call forced empathy. You learn this in an ER setting when you have grown desensitized to whatever is going on. That patronizing, over talking, and a casual I’m so sorry here and there. Not giving you straight answers to bait you into staying there. The assistant was way more concerned about the costs and me declining each level than listening to what I just said. She began bringing form after form after form. “I know that’s not what you want, but you gotta sign this,” knowing my cat was dying. I displayed major concern and to have someone keep refuting every answer with, but I just need you to sign this is ridiculous. Knowing what was going on was a time sensitive thing. They were not willing to work with me and I feel like prey on folks to get money from them. Asking someone to pay $4,000 upfront to save their friend is ridiculous when you can’t explain a $200 charge for medicines he MIGHT need. And then proceeded to bring me one for $1800, this and so forth until we got to $349. I said I just need you to help him last until the morning so I could bring him to his normal doctor because I don’t have that kinda money with COVID going on. But she was more concerned about the money. We work with your options where I work because we understand the sensitivity of the nature of the visit and to see that you guys don’t even have payment plans to help people out was completely discouraging. What hurt me the most is when they realized I wasn’t going to pay them anything, they put my baby back in this carrier and didn’t even bother to put his collar back on. Just left it tied to the handles of the bag. All I wanted to have them do is to stabilize him so I can get to a place that’s more affordable than a $4000 charge that I can’t pay. The MD would not give me a straight answer as to the health of my baby, striking fear in my heart. There were no resources given. And guess what? Tux did make it to the morning with him at my side, but we did make it to truly compassionate individuals who actually tried to save him life ASIDE from money. Tux did pass away the next day and I’m so grateful for the team that saw him in his last moments... but this place needs to evaluate why they do this in the first place. I will never be back and will never recommend you to anyone.
This is NOT a 24/7 emergency vet clinic like they claim to be. It is labeled online and on their front window that their emergency services are 24/7 which is false advertisement. We walked in with with our very sick dog at 10:30am and were told they do not have an emergency vet there until 2:00pm. They said we could wait but if we left and came back that we would lose our place in line. This business is not ran properly and is very misleading.
My puppy Chewie had gotten run over and had TWO broken legs. Dr B. was very frank with our options, costs and possible outcomes. We chose to have surgery on both hind legs and while expensive, it was actually less than another pet hospital we called. After the surgery and 6 weeks of rehab at home, Chewies surgeries proved to be quite successful with an even better outcome than we imagined. I am so grateful to the doctors, the nurses, the front desk staff, and everyone at this hospital. PS: all of this occurred during the unprecedented Texas freeze and this hospital NEVER closed! I dont even think the staff went home😮 I would come here again if I ever needed to and would refer anyone here who had a pet emergency
We took our sick dog in Saturday 22 because she had stop eating and drinking water and she started to vomit yellow stuff so they ran tests on her before the test we had to pay almost $500 just for blood work and maybe 2 injections so they sent us home with her still not knowing whats wrong with coffee she was dying slowly the problem worsen so we took her back to this place where they charged us $700 for a x-ray of a small dog in which they told us you barely can see. and then we where told that they have to do more test including another x-ray (why another x-ray when yall said they couldnt see the first one) we found that strange and then it seem to us it was all about the (money) so it was another estimate and it was 2,100 at the most so to us it was a little to high just spending all the other money we had so they didnt want to work with us far as the payment and said that we have 2 options have the money or basically go home with our coffe so we had no choice but to go home with her dying they gave her another shot in which it didnt do nothing for her she suffered even more when all they had to do was keep her. keep in mind you guys are the specialist still drooling from her mouth we only had for a playful 2 years. coffee was giving to Ashley as a gift because she was in an accident and couldnt walk for weeks we loved her so much just like a baby she was. Sunday 23 coffee suffered even more she started fading away from us Ashley had to work but got off at 8pm she was looking around for Ashley sniffing her shoes and pillow she was slowly dying she started to poo out blood clots we never seen this before with any dog we ever had we suffered watching her die coffee tried holding on for us to get her to another vet but she started crying and i knew she was about to die. Monday 24 2021 coffee died at 3am hours before we could get her help thanks to (Sugar Land Veterinary Specialist) our dog coffee suffered and died at home with us i Joshua Lamerson I am heart 💔💔 broken for my girlfriend Ashley and for our baby COFFEE I RECOMMEND THAT IF YOUR DOG IS SICK OR DYING DO NOT GO TO THEM UNLESS YOU HAVE (MONEY) OR THE FULL PAYMENT BECAUSE OUR BABY IS GONE 🐕🐶 NOW ALL WE HAVE LEFT OF HER IS A X-RAY AND PAPERS
The team at Sugarland is exceptional. We brought our very sick dog in after seeing two other vets. They followed and very methodical process for diagnosis. The efforts in our case were not successful due to secondary issues that were not detected by the initial testing, but the staff and their process was exceptional. I would recommend Sugarland to anyone with an sick pet, these folks are specialists.
Instantly felt very comfortable and assured that Tess would be taken care of once I met Dr. Davis and Jamie. Really appreciated all of their attention and care for Tess.
I went here after midnight when my dog was obviously not right, and the high ratings made be choose this place. The staff on the phone and vet techs and vet were all very friendly and seemed compassionate, which was comforting because I would not be as nice during a graveyard shift. They guessed what it was based on the symptoms and did some tests, but the tests showed nothing and would require overnight and more tests which I unfortunately had to decline because the costs kept adding up and this was an incredibly difficult year money-wise. So they gave her fluids and released her to me and I would take her to a family vet during the day. But the fluids and their guess worked, the antibiotics they gave perked my dog up to her usual self. She had gastroenteritis for the curious. However this is still a business first and foremost, and payment is needed up front before they will do anything. Please, please keep this mind, because in an emergency you dont want to waste time and bring your pet here only to waste extremely precious time. If a payment plan were implemented here that would work great, but there isnt. So again, do some research before settling for this place if you arent prepared.
My cocker spaniel ingested rat poison . It was the weekend and it was an emergency situation. The staff was fast, professional and took care of my dog. I would recommend them to anybody.. Price was fair and upfront.
Absolutely amazing. My fur baby fell out of the window & went under the back tire. After going to our regular vet, to a Pearland ER & then being recommended this hospital, I have been nothing but 100% satisfied. The receptionist were so sweet & so helpful anytime I called. They called every morning & every night with an update. If I felt the need to call throughout the day, they were always there to answer my questions. All of the doctors & techs who helped my baby get better we’re absolutely amazing. Dr. Cordova was the last one I spoke with & when I say you can just see how much she loves & cares about her job & the animals who come in here. Yes, it’s pricy. But with my dog being in critical condition I would’ve paid an arm & a leg anywhere I went. I paid for him to have the best team working on him & checking on him. That’s exactly what I got & nothing less. They have options to apply for CareCredit if you need it. I applied & was immediately accepted. HIGHLY recommend them.
I have a French bulldog and was traveled from south America to have her looked at. After everything, I am happy we decided to do so and even more happy we ended up at Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists.
I brought in my cat as a referral thinking I would lose him or spend my whole savings trying to save him. They kept me in the loop through the testing and were transparent about the whole process. They ended up calling me to come pick him up after they decided he was no longer in danger and didnt need to see their internist. They could have let him stay there and see the internist, which would have costed a significant amount more, but they released him to me instead. They are closely following covid-19 guidelines, so be prepared to stay in your car, call them, and wait for someone to come get your pet for examination. They will roll out a stretcher for critically ill pets when needed.
This has been the worst experience I have ever had at a veterinary hospital. These people brought out my sick dog covered in his own feces and when I saw him, the only thing moving was his eyes, as if he was sedated. Whatever they did to him it wasnt to treat him of his ailments. He was rushed to the emergency room with chronic diarrhea, dehydration, and fatigue and they did nothing to help. Rather they firmly demanded I pay 5,000 upfront. They stole my money and I left there without my dog. PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT THIS HOSPITAL.
The 24 Hour Emergency Care services are first class: a comfort to pet owners like me and my wife. Doctor Shotts and staff were responsive, professional, and caring. Their approach and attitude alleviated our anxiety. If our dog could talk, Im sure she would have many positive things to say about the care she received.
Our dog, Pidge, suffered a serious disc injury and our Vet in NW Houston highly recommended SLVS for diagnosis and treatment, which ended up involving surgery.Drs. Davis and Kegg were involved with the surgery and subsequent treatment and both kept us advised of what was happening and her progress the whole time she was in the clinic which lasted a total of 3.5 days. She is home now and making progress each and every day.Everyone at SLVS we came in contact with, from the reception personnel, clinic support staff and doctors, were very caring and professional. We feel very fortunate that there is a facility such as SLVS in the Houston area to address serious injuries in the pets that we love.Thank you SLVS - Penny, Warren & Pidge
I cant say enough good things about Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists and the doctors and staff there. Dr. McGee, Dr. Rome, Dr. Villanueva, Dr. Shotts and the rest of the team saved our fur baby after he ingested part of a sago palm seed. He spent nearly a week in their care, and they did an outstanding job keeping us informed with daily calls and updates on his condition. They even sent us pictures of him! The doctors were compassionate but frank with us about the severity the situation. They were also very patient with me and my husband, as we asked A LOT of questions. It was obvious that they love what they do and their patients. Thank you!!
Such a wonderful dedicated staff and Drs. I felt like my pets care was a top priority. I cant say enough good things about this place or the care.
Sadly and Unexpectedly, our 4 year old Boxer, Gunner had to be put down due to cancer. The day before our appointment I decided to research the Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists. I was not happy to see so many negative remarks. It scared me because we had to trust total strangers to take care of our Gunner boy.I am so sorry for all of those pet owners that had a bad experience...BUT I MUST SAY...that our personal experience with this place was a great one.My husband was distraught at watching his buddy Gunner change right before his eyes. He was on the phone with the front desk trying to get an earlier appointment without success but was told that if the need arised, we could bring Gunner in during the night. My husband broke down crying on the phone, they were compassionate, understanding, and they handled him with kindness. The next day was Gunners appointment. Needless to say because of COVID-19 we had to stay in the car. My husband called to let them know that we were here with Gunner. The person that answered the phone recognized my husbands name and asked him, Mr. Gray are you feeling a little better today? I was so touched to hear them ask him how he was feeling. That showed me that she was sensitive to the fact that my husband was having a hard time coping with the situation and that he was not just another customer.Someone comes out to get Gunner and also advised that we will get a call from the Vet before anything was done. The Vet called and was very patient and answered every question my husband asked and asked again. We decided on an MRI to find out what was inflicting Gunner. We were told to go home because it would be a few hours.Unfortunately, we were called with sad news and we were on our way back to say our final goodbyes. Again, they were patient, compassionate, and kind. We had Gunner cremated. Today, my husband picked up his remains which were nicely layed in a pretty carved box. There was also a sweet surprise, they had taken Gunners paw print and gave us a beautiful ceramic memory. Also in the mail we received a condolence card that was signed with sweet messages from: DVM Davis, Deana, Jamie, Melissa, and Nicole.THANK YOU TO ALL THAT WORK HARD TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE DURING A DIFFICULT TIME. GOD BLESS!
My baby was so sick before coming to Sugar Land Vet Specialist. They literally saved her life! She was being treated for pancreatitis through my current vet and an emergency clinic, she had elevated liver enzymes and couldn’t hold anything down. After about 10 days on iv and meds we were getting nowhere and she was deteriorating quickly. My vet referred me to SLVS and within a day the internal medicine Dr Garcia felt that she had a blockage and recommended emergency surgery. Dr Bubanik performed the surgery and found a mass on her biliary duct, her liver was enlarged from back up of bile. She removed the mass and took biopsies of liver, gall bladder, pancreas and the mass. We are still awaiting those results, but are hopeful. Our girl would not be here today is it wasn’t for the care she received from the doctors and staff, very professional and I am beyond thankful that I have my fur baby home with me.
The staff was great. Very helpful and considerate to my dogs needs. Estimate prices are discussed prior to exams, so you know what payment they will be expecting. They treated my pup with care and compassion.
