A little doggie showed up on our doorstep. We gave him food, water, and bundled him. Then brought him over to the shelter. They were very sweet with him. There has been a family looking for someone just like him. Happy that he will continue to be loved.

Very loving people work here. They do care about the animals and families being matched just right. Drove 2.5 hrs and ended up adding a new addition to our family that we would have never considered.

I had to go to the shelter to attempt to locate my lost dog. Unfortunately, there were some dynamics’s and my dog was not there and was at a clinic. When I called the clinic the night before they told me I had to contact the shelter first to get my animal. Brittany is an animal officer was genuinely kind and took the time to help me locate my dog and find out if the clinic still had my animal. Her time and consideration did not go unnoticed. She is a an Asset to the Stockton animal shelter and to the community! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and help Brittany.

I have been here three days in a row and the staff couldn’t be friendlier and more caring. They were very helpful when it came to resources for trying to help me find my lost pet. Even though I didn’t find anything here they gave me lots of extra places to check. They really do care.

Stockton Animal Shelter is on the up and up mainly because of new leadership. The team here loves and cares about the animals, and that says a lot about how things are shaping up around here. At first, being a 501c3 rescue, Ive had a perception of the city, but with all places, you have your good and bad apples and SAS, is set to change that perception. Staff friendly and helpful. Old facility, second building was pretty warm when we went,nothing staff can do about it sadly. Kennels pretty clean both times that we went. Can only see pets by going in with an escort,so kind of slow process and not fun when standing outside in the high heat! No shade by door where you have to wait to be taken in but not staffs fault,its just the current rules in place.

Didnt realize the size of the operation there. Great folks and plenty of animals that need homes.

Showed up at 501pm (they close at 5pm) with a very injured stray dog and as a person was leaving I went running to the door with small dog carrier to the door. A females voice from inside was Hurd yelling out Ughh No!! Were closed! And the customer that was leaving ended up staying inside and slammed the door in my face. I waited till someone left and I peeked in and asked the guy behind the counter Alfonzo what to do with this injured dog. She was ran over, badly hurt and in need of immidate attention. He gave me directions to a emergency clinic where I can surrender this poor animal safely to get the help it needs. The lady whoever she was very rude. Thanks to Alfonzo the dog is now getting the help she badly needs.

Clean, animals all have flood and water, raised beds off of floor. Staff friendly, knew dogs names, dogs well treated. We found the perfect dog for us. Darcy needs some training but she is young. She is in good health. Great with our Special needs grandson. Thank you!

I called this place Monday to report a lost/stray dog. (German shepherd) it’s been walking around my yard and won’t leave, it’s Thursday now. And still, nobody has came out. I have them a call and they told me that my call was still pending… it doesn’t take 4 days to send someone out here and still no show of a service officer or anything smh

Horrible, last month me and dad took 2 stray kittens to this animal shelter. Today we just saw a stray kitten that looks similar to the one of the kitten we took last month in our backyard. Guess what? It’s the same EXACT kitten! I can tell because how it looks and the meow sounds similar. The kitten has a white tag around the neck, it doesn’t say anything though. This really sucks, because we already have 2 STRAY kittens living in our backyard.

They found my Pitbull after 101 days of gone missing thanks to the chip that was installed in him as a puppy. They text me me as soon as my dog came in. Hassle free. Thank you Britney and colleagues for taking good care of my 12 year old baby!

Our Stockton Animal Shelter is a very clean, no-kill shelter. An appointment is required before you go to the shelter. When I got there, a very nice young lady came outside to greet me. I told her I had an appointment so she took me inside to look for my missing cat. Unfortunately my missing cat wasnt there. The people who work there are very knowledgeable, polite and very kind. I used to dread going to our shelter. Im no longer dreading going there to look for a missing pet or to look for a new fur baby!

Extremely well organized facility. The employees and volunteers are passionate and caring for all of the creatures entrusted to their care. They have great programs for people who want to spend time with the animals. Outstanding dedication to the wellbeing of the animals.

I have brought a couple of stray animals in and everytime the staff are so nice and professional.I wish they would get some type of grant and be able to completely remodel the entire shelter. Im sure the animals and the staff would appreciate it. I do recommend anyone who is wanting a forever furbaby to go there. They have so many amazing babies available.

The staff is fake nice, very rude undertones to everything said.They ask for an Immense amount of very Personal Information that is Completely unnecessary UNLESS you are physically adopting!My daughter just wanted to check out our local shelter! No plans on adopting today, and they would not let us enter after waiting in line over 20 minutes and filling out my First Name and phone number ( As I believe Thats more than enough information if all I want to do is look!) As well as the poor dogs in the facility are sadly Screaming as youre waiting in line, made my daughter upset.I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS FACILITY!I am willing to drive to my Hometown facility over an hour away before I would visit this place that is just a 15 minute drive. I feel terrible for the poor animals that are stuck there.I have a little zoo at home, we have 10 pets. All of them are rescues!!

Adopted a 3 year old German Shepherd who was a day past his due out date. There was no event going on, but his adoption fee was waived. Please leave a donation if youre fortunate enough to be that lucky.The volunteer who let me meet him was very knowledgeable about him and other animals at the shelter, the staff were kind, and able to answer any questions or concerns. They also provided two free sample bags of the kibble they feed in order to aid in transitioning to whatever food you feed at home.I adopted Thursday and was able to take home the good boy Friday immediately after neuter. The process was simple, just let them know which animal I wanted and they will tell you whether or not there are behavioral issues or if the animal has any red flags.They have a vet on site, the surgical area, and wound are neatly and professionally closed. After about 12 hours his anesthesia wore off and he is such a great addition to my home. He did have kennel cough, but that is almost unavoidable in a shelter scenario, so they sent him home with a 10 day supply of antibiotics. Shelter name was Murphy, he didnt respond to it so I renamed and am training him to Achilles.Thanks for all you do Stockton Animal Shelter!

I lost my dog to old age several months ago. I have been looking for another one but none of them seemed right. We stopped in yesterday to see what was available. When I saw her my heart felt full again, she hobbled to the kennel door. When we asked to bring her out she ended up sitting in my lap & kissed my face....... IT WAS ALL SHE WROTE! I didnt pick a dog she picked me. We get to pick her up tomorrow & bring her home.Moon I cant wait to go for walks & have hiking adventures with you.

Clean facility, amazing staff, however the day after we adopted our cat, she presented with a bacterial upper respiratory infection which also got our other cat sick. So now Im stuck with $300 in vet bills.

We just adopted a beautiful 1yr blu pit,because I am county we had to wait extra to bring her hm also because surgery list was long city residents where first. Knowing the dog is for my grand daughter they have let us visit all we want and when a play yard is open even leting us spend time there. DUE to the extra wait they also waived ALL fees which i say was up wards of 150. They do spay..all shots and chips~ my best friend recently also adopted a pitbull from them who needed her leg amputated and they where very kind and empathized with new mom allowing her to visit as much as she wanted untill she was ready to go hm

So someone left a kitten on my porch so I went to take her animal services. The workers were genuine when interacting with clients and pets. Be prepared to wait in line because they dont allow anyone to enter until they are done helping the previous client. But overall I was very happy with the service I recieved.

Nice staff but they sent home my baby with a large abcess and he had a hole in his intestines. They cleaned him up and gave him surgery and hes good but its hard to get ahold of anyone on the phone.

To all the people who are complaining about this facility, why don’t you do something to help. Many of the workers here are volunteers and they have limited resources. As far as dead animals being picked up, my understanding is that there is one person/team who does that and one who picks up stray dogs for the whole city. This is not high on the populous agenda when it comes to voting and allocating funds until it affects them directly. Vote for funds for city and county services, volunteer, donate money, food, blankets and towels. I have adopted from there and I think they do a stellar job. Yes the pandemic has caused longer waits and slower service but sadly that is everywhere and everything. It is better to err on the side of health safety than to put the public or animals at risk. Know before you trash a worthwhile and wonderful organization.

We came to the shelter from San Francisco in hopes of finding a pup to add to our family. We adopted our dog during shelter in place. I really appreciated how friendly and helpful all of the staff were with us. Their jobs are not easy but it’s clear they care for the animals. James helped us meet several doggies that we liked and was so patient with all of our questions. There are so many great dogs and cats who were strays or surrendered that just need good homes.

Found my dog there. Archer is a most awesome companion. He is a HUGE Black Belgian Shepherd. 125+ lb eating animal with HUGE dog plops to scoop up. Small price to pay for all the love and devotion such a beast gives just for adopting him and saving his life! Enough about how great my pooch is. The establishment was very nice and helpful. Before they would release Archer to my custody, they neutered him for no cost to me, and inserted an identifying chip in his neck/shoulder with my info in case he wanders off. Also no charge. AND they waived all adoption fees! I walked out of there a week later with a FREE DOG! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! For bringing me and my best friend together. It would be a bargain at ANY $ price!

They were so awesome I found a chicken running around in my front yard I took her there and they found a sanctuary for her to go live at talk about the perfect situation the girls that work there were so nice

Its sad to see animals behind bars but Im happy to say these were well cared for. I wanted to check out the shelter. Normally I check out the fur babies at the pet store in Trinity Parkway. Each weekend I go and love on them. They have been doing free adoptions for large dogs for a while now at the pet store. The shelter also gives out free dog food at the end of the month from 9 to 11 am. Check out the shelter its a happy place.

2 dogs were running in and out of traffic on March lane one car almost hit another. Car I called 2 times and no show ..I was taking a patient to have radiation because she has cancer and I tried to catch the dogs while she is having radiation when she got done with radiation we went and bought dog food a man helped us catch the dogs get them in my car and I had to bring them to the shelter because I live in a mobile home ..i did not know that there would be a line ..so with my patient sitting in the hot car with two hot dogs and because I tried to tell the girl that she took longer to come and help us get the dogs out of the car she even took 2 people ahead of me I guess because I complained. Im sorry but it was a really long time I think they need more help

Great and friendly staff, we got our dog name Rosy from this shelter, when youre here ask for David and Mayo.

A terrible place to try and adopt and rescue animals. They leave you waiting in the hot sun for well over an hour. No shade or canopy provided. If you are there to adopt you are the last priority. Everyone coming to drop off animals, get licenses or get rabies shots are admitted ahead of you. They allow just a single person with a mask to walk through their entire facility to look at the animals despite there being plenty of room for many others. Its totally insane. Government bureaucracy at its worst.To top it all off, we drove for over an hour and 40 minutes to get there and were assured multiple times the pet we wanted was there. When we finally were admitted we looked and she was not there and the staff person told us Oh, she was probably adopted before you got here despite the fact I had emailed the same person who said she was available that I was on my way and again that I was waiting outside. We got there 30 minutes after they opened so I really dont believe this.After over 2 and half hours of driving and waiting outside I asked if, at least, I could use the bathroom and was told No, we dont have public restrooms. How crude, inconsiderate and totally mean spirited. Evidently they shelter animals but dont give a damn about people.

Called ahead for an adoption and pick up. When I arrived animal had been adopted by another family. What is the point of operating and giving out false information? Not only do I consider this unprofessional, but troubling. I drove an hour for this pet. Such a sad way of misinforming people. I will never consider this place again.

Horrible customer service, didnt give us the correct case number, and is making us pay a ridiculous fund to get our dogs back and they havent even been there for 24 hours, only go here to adopt NEVER drop your dog or cats off here, theyre overpriced and genuinely horrible, forcing us to pay 250 dollars, never gonna even consider going here again, and screw the people at the front desk.

I have been trying to get someone from animal control out to our location now for 4 days because there is a dead dog laying on our curb. No one can seem to get out here to pick it up. I was told on 06/22 that someone would be out here by 5pm yesterday and there is still no one here and they have no clue when they will be able to get someone out. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

The wait is like 2 hours. Staff let people in that they know when you have a lot of people waiting in line. People just cut in line. I just wanted to look at the animals. Staff was rude to some people. I don’t understand how stray animals can go in first when others been waiting in a long line.

I love stockton animal shelter. They really care about their animals and do everything they can. They keep it pretty clean and their paperwork is pretty good. When you bring in found animals they can be pretty short with you but they are just trying to get through the line as quickly as possible and trying to figure out where the heck to fit the poor animal in the crowded shelter.

So many pets here that need a loving home. We just adopted our newest member of the family from this shelter. The staff there are amazing. The way they care and love those animals, so sweet. Volunteers are amazing. Justin was very helpful when we went last Friday. He was very informative. Great with the dogs and with us. We appreciate the friendliness of the staff there. We were able to take our Poppy home the same day. They were very very busy but not too busy to assist us at any time.

There are many wonderful dogs and cats down here that would love a forever family. Go visit! Adopt!

I was waiting in line to be seen and this lady that was there had no way to leave work on an arranged day to pick up her dogs medication and here comes JAMES to the rescue. He worked with the woman to meet her at her job after hours without hesitation to get her dogs medication to her. I was so pleased to hear that there are still amazing / Outstanding humans in this world. GO JAMES! WE SEE YOU!

Small facility with very few kennels, tho i highly suggest they build a bigger facility dued to the population in stockton ca. However tho, the customer service there is fairly great.

Its always sad to see the numbers of pets that need homes please visit the shelter and give one of these dogs a chance before you pay for a purebred!! new renovations to the facility & expanded heated areas to walk through was an improvement.However I went to look for my lost cat and post a flyer to their message board and they wouldnt allow it ... there was plenty of room on the board this policy needs to change .this contradicts the reason why you go to the shelter if youve lost a pet

Never pick up dead animals until weeks later.. they leave them in the street or just move them.They need better training and I feel bad for the animals in their care.

Affordable for everyone to be able to adopt a pet. Animals appear to be well taken care of here. We love the two kittens we got here and plan on coming back in the future for another pet.

We rescued both of our babies here and we our beyond grateful and blessed to be able to call them family. Appreciated the advice and kindness we experienced throughout the adoption and neutering process.

I was hoping to find a dog to adopt, but didnt find it. Although all these animals are precious, I have my heart set on a Bichon Frise. I will say that the animals look healthy and the facility was clean.

This is great. Clean, nice, and you can tell they really try to get the dogs adopted out if possible. Adoption fees very reasonable, and they even have days/conditions (such as age or size of the dog) when adoption is free. Awesome public shelter.
