We were members of Youth Fitness Zone off and on for many years. We had a lot of mixed experiences. The open gym is a lot of fun and birthday parties there are the absolute best. They win there, hands down.I have four kids, and I feel like I know them pretty well. Two are very easy going and two are definitely spirited. We had problems with a few different coaches ruining the fun experience. Even my “easy”, very obedient, child complained of mean coaches. My spirited little girl was told her “jumps were terrible.” She was in beginning cheer classes. 😳 Of course they were terrible! How mean to say such a thing to a beginner 6 year old. When I complained, the owner told me she is a great coach and maybe just had a bad day? Neither of my older kids wanted to go back after that.I didn’t want to force them to go, so we pulled all of our kids and decided to drive to Edmond and attend Oklahoma Gold. WOW! What a difference. All of the kids are thriving and truly enjoying gymnastics again. I feel like they have made so much progress in their short time at OKG and their confidence has definitely grown exponentially.I’m really sad we were not able to get that experience locally, as we strive to support local and small businesses whenever possible. I’m leaving this review so if others are reading this and having issues at Youth Fitness Zone, they know there are other options!
My 21 month old granddaughter loves the activities that she performs with her momma
My daughter has been competing for this gym for over four years and has loved every minute of her time here! She loves her gym family. She is there 16 hours a week during the year and 20 hours a week over the summer. This gym is safe and fun and the owners love our gymnasts like they are their own children! You will NEVER find a safer gym with coaches who are trained to handle any situation! They are supportive and encouraging and are a second family to everyone who comes through their doors!!!!!
BEST gym ever! My gymnast and my cheerleader get to compete for the same place. Less time wasted traveling between gyms, and the staff/owners are amazing. They know our family by name and create a fun atmosphere for kids to learn and grow in.My 3 kiddos are STILL a part of the Zone family, and I absolutely stand behind Julie, the rest of her family, and all coaches/staff at Youth Fitness Zone. As a mom to a VERY rambunctious little boy, I have NEVER been worried about his safety while at open gym. There are several areas where kids are allowed to play at the gym. There are signs and instructions on which areas your children should be in, and the staff is pretty great about ensuring the safety if all kiddos. Parents are welcome to go into the fun zones and SUPERVISE their children. Im not a staff member, but I have personally had to back up some staff members because some kids were not listening. They are usually polite in asking kids not to run, not to play on certain equipment, and especially to be mindful of others. However, most children, do not listen to niceness, in those times. I have used my cheer voice to garner the attention necessary for kids to listen for instructions. To blame the owners/staff for an accident that could have happened anywhere, is absurd. As a mom involved with this gym for over 3 years, with 2 kids on competitive teams, I hate to see this gym under attack. No, I dont want to see a kid hurt, BUT I also realize that accidents happen, and questions should be answered before jumping the gun. Was the hurt kid in their designated zone? Was a parent of such a young kid within arms reach? Was the staff responsive or dismissive? Lets not jump to conclusions and give insight on preventative measures. My gymnast (16 years old)was CONSTANTLY looked after while on the team. Any and every hurt was looked at as an issue, NEVER had an ache dismissed. I find it hard to believe that a young child, 2 years and under, would be mishandled by the staff. My cheerleader was given the same treatment and even a small incident(sprained wrist) was wrapped, iced, and given a referral. My son, NOT a Zone member, was treated with respect, kindness, and gentleness by the staff and other kids who are regulars.
Amazing gym and support system for our child. We have been a part of the Zone family for 6 years. Opportunity for fun or a more serious commitment to gymnastics. Fantastic birthday parties, awesome summer camps, and competition gymnastics. Try open gym! Kids will be hooked. Great fitness for kids and adults.
My kiddos love this place!!!! My oldest is 10 yrs old and she has been going there since she was about 3 years old. It is a place my wife and I feel very comfortable leaving our kids at knowing they will be safe and have fun. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a kids gym.
My daughter took recreational gymnastic here and loved it! The teachers were great and attentive. A wonderful and safe place for your children to learn!
My daughter Georgia has been going since she was 2 years old, we started out doing the open play on Fridays now she is on a competitive team age 7. We have never had any issues with this gym, my daughter has thrived through their coaching and encouragement. Julie and her coaches truly treat all the kids as if they were there own. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a place for their gymnast or somewhere to have fun on a Friday night. We love being apart of the YFZ family and know that my daughters coaches always want the best for her.
Great place for kids to keep them active!
All the reviews are becaise people cant read right. I was with them till I looked into it. They handled the situation perfectly. From what they said in reply it was exactly how life guards should handle it. If I lived closer Id recommend this place to people i know.
My daughter has been coming 2 days a week for girls rec and rookie tumbeling. The instructors are great .Very hands on with kids. Also the owner is a super nice lady . Very professional . Would recommend this place for sure .
My kids have been going here for years. Its very safe and the owners and staff are very friendly. All the negative reviews on this place are hear say over a post made on the web from someone that used this place like a daycare.
We have had 3 daughters in this gym over the past 13 years. This facility has operated with the utmost safety, care, and professionalism that entire time.
My daughter has attended Youth Fitness Zone since she was 2 yrs old in a mommy and me class. Now at 14 years old and part of the Zone family for 12 years, her love of gymnastics and Youth Fitness Zone is immense. Julie Kemmerly, her family and coaching staff are amazing. Their love for our children is genuine and safety is #1 in their books. My daughter spends over 20 hrs a week at Youth Fitness Zone with her excellent coaches and gymnastics team. I trust them 100% to do everything in their power to keep our children safe. And with any gym and any sport, there are risks and injuries. And in every instance, no matter how minor, Julie has contacted me immediately following and continued to follow up with genuine concern days later. I love the Zone family, blessed my daughter is a part of it, and know that the life lessons learned thru gymnastics, teamwork, and dedication are priceless.
As a former competitive cheerleader for Youth Fitness Zone, it saddens me that there are numerous bad reviews( Mainly ones that are copied and then pasted) about the gym. I have had numerous accidents and injuries, even ones that were life-threatening and not ONCE did the owners or coaches dismiss the situation at hand. If anything they do more than what is needed to ensure that any and everyone who steps foot inside of the gym is safe. Now, from my personal experience, I do understand that open gym can get a bit rowdy. However, each time a child is getting out of hand a coach, or anyone(including myself) who sees the potential danger at hand says something to correct the childs behavior. For me, it is hard to believe that the staff acted as if nothing was wrong with the child. Especially when there have been other incidents regarding cuts, broken bones, rips, sprained ankles, and even something as simple as a hangnail that was resolved as quickly as possible. Also, in an emergency situation where someone is severely hurt, the correct thing to do is make sure that the people around the injured person are calm. This ensures that the child will remain calm and will not cause further damage to his/herself due to stress. I feel as if the Youth Fitness Zone was absolutely correct in the way they handled the situation. I do, however, have questions about the situation that took place. If the child was under the age of 8, I feel as if they should be more supervised, which in turn can limit the chances of the child being severely hurt. You are in the gym long enough to see that older/bigger kids are running around freely having a good time, obviously not really paying attention to their surroundings (Which is very common in young children.) because they are too busy having fun.I remember an athlete at the gym who was doing a tumbling pass on the beam and completely missed her hand placement, which in turn led to her breaking her glasses and hitting her head on the beam. Not once was there any hesitation with the owners and/or the staff to make sure that she was okay. They correctly assessed the athlete and the situation that took place. With me being on the Youth Fitness Zones cheer team, I refuse to believe that they acted as if they could care less about the childs safety before and after the event took place. Weve had girls fall on their faces in stunts, twist their ankle, cut up their arms and hands, and yet the gym never failed to help them. I, specifically, was going to do a cheer jump and then a back-handspring, but I had too much power so that resulted in me turning too fast and landing straight on my head, neck, and then flat on my back (and yes, in that order). My coaches immediately stopped practice to check and make sure that I was alright. Even though I insisted that I was alright and re-did the tumbling pass to show them I was alright, they still told me to take a break so that my body could heal.Youth Fitness Zone is my 2nd family, everyone who steps foot into the building is treated fairly, equally, and without any failure..respectfully.They have gone to extremes to make sure people are being treated fairly.I won a jump competition a few years back and had only received a foam ball as a gift,I was very appreciative of the gift(Mainly because Im just a nice person in general and wasnt really looking for a prize) However, my coaches felt as if that was not enough, they went out of their way to order me a medal and congratulate me for the win.I think its pathetic that one bad review (that clearly had a missing side of the story and a misunderstanding of why some things took place) can cause more people to write bad reviews. Write about your personal experience, dont go bashing one business because of what you heard. Not everything you hear is 100% true. There is always something added or missing when it comes to re-telling a story smh.As far as what took place with your son, I am deeply sorry for your sons injuries and hope that he is able to have a quick recovery.
My kids, 8 and 10 love going to the open gym when we are in Stillwater
Wonderful place and everybody cares about one another
Awesome
