I have used this company numerous times to open and close my pool and last year used them to replace my liner, skimmers, pump, filter, some of the PVC lines, and purchased an automatic cleaner. The owner Todd was very direct and easy to work with and they did a great job. I highly recommend using them.

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I hired them to close my pool fall 2020. I discovered this extra PVC piece installed in my skimmer (without my knowledge or consent) when I opened it spring 2021. After numerous emails back and forth and the owner admitting his inexperienced labor did not follow protocol, attached a PVC fitting without notifying me and removal of that piece with a saws all caused damage to that area. Yet REFUSES to accept accountability. His offer to patch it if he finds a leak that another company has already determined is there is crazy. I ask, would you trust a company to do that work when they are obviously trying to push off the whole situation? How a company like this stays in business is beyond me. 1 star is too much.

I had used this company for 10 years to open and close my pool and deliver chemicals. NO MORE! I called them to repair my automatic cover. Service person offered me an option of repair or replace. I was told TWICE that total cost of repair, with labor and materials, would be $500 or $600. Imagine my surprise when my credit card was charged the next day for over $1000! I had lengthy email exchange with Todd, the owner, who was consistently defensive and rude and threatening. No concession whatsoever that I made a decision based on a totally false statement by his worker. I cannot work with a company I cannot trust, and will not give business to someone whose only response is to be rude and defensive.

Horrible!!!! One of the crew yanked the pool cleaner out of the pool by the cord and swung it throwing it on the cement. When I approached him on it he told me that I didnt belong down there. Meaning that I didnt belong poolside......ON MY OWN PROPERTY?? Then when I asked the crew lead, he said thats the way we do it all of the time. They stripped two of the anchors and didnt attach 3 more. They were in too big of rush to do the job well. I believe they have developed bad habits due to most owners being at work when they are closing the pool. No One Ever sees how they handle the equipment.....Which was with no regard to not breaking it.I emailed the owner Todd:Good Afternoon,I had an issue with one of your staff today with the handling of my equipment and would like to discuss. He was also very rude and arrogant when I called him out on the lack of concern for my equipment. I really don’t appreciate being told to leave my own property (poolside). Your son was better, but still lacked the customer service skills to handle the situation appropriately.I also am putting you on notice that if my pool cleaner doesn’t work in the spring I will be sending you a bill to fix the damage or replace the unit.If I don’t receive a call, I will be stopping payment on my credit card. My expectation is that I receive a call this evening or tomorrow during working hours to discuss. Please call the home landline 651-XXXXXXXHis reply (below) was uninformed/inaccurate of the facts and also down right rude. I wanted to discuss what happened and he basically went off on me with out even talking to me. His Google reviews are also not stellar, 2.7 rating. His Reply:Ms. Thode -Your email to me is a direct threat. Your threats towards me, confirm my employees version of what truthfully took place at the pool closing.*(My Email was not threatening)You have absolutely no legal right to withhold payment for services rendered due to a verbal confrontation with my employees that you initiated not once, not twice, but three times.*(I didnt approach his staff 3 times & I have contacted my credit card company to dispute the charges)Furthermore, we are not taking any liability for your pool cleaner because the pool cleaner should not have been in the pool for the pool closing appointment AND we removed the cleaner exactly in the manner that your owners manual details. I actually sense a set-up so I suggest you test your cleaner now and not wait until spring.*(We were never told to remove it, in fact they state that they will take out ladders & steps, I have no way of testing the cleaner now that the pool is closed. He Didnt remove the cleaner to manual instructions, the manual says to NEVER remove by the cord. You are supposed to remove by the handle. This is in no way a setup, we continued to run the cleaner to keep it as clean as possible before closing)We will no longer provide any services for your pool as a result of your attack on my employees.(LIKE I WOULD EVER HAVE THEM BACK!!!!!)The Job was done incomplete, property damage incurred and unprofessional both by staff and owner. I definitely would not use this company ever again.Update - When I filed a report with the better business bureau, PPD had the nerve to respond that I had complained about 4 or more pool companies in the past 5 years. Which is an out & out lie. I have never filed a complaint or posted a review (good or bad) before. This is the first time ever. I challenge PPD to prove the accusation.Response to PPDs owners response. He should be a fiction writer, with the imagination he has. You dont get a 2.5 rating unless there is something wrong with you and your service. He may need to look at the quality of the crew he is sending (one being his son) Its funny, in the reviews he calls all of the dis-satisfied customers liars. I think everyone can figure out who the liar is...……..10/24/20 - Amex close the dispute and found in my favor.

Wish I would have read the reviews first.Todd was rude, condescending and apparently the customer is never right. His technicians came to open our pool and seemed to be very rushed. When they turned the switch to our motor, it siezed up. They said we needed an electrician due to arcing electricity, smoke and sparks. The technicians did not say this to us. If it would have been true, it would have been extremely negligent not to inform us about the dangerous electrical problem. We called an electrician and there was no issue with the electricity whatsoever...and now we are out double to cost.If you expect professionalism, honesty, and integrity; DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.- Take a look at how the owner responds to complaints. Most business people would respond to a negative complaint apologetically and make an attempt to right the wrong. His responses prove a point. Calling a client a liar on the Google reviews... Not a great business move.

I can’t say enough good things about Todd and pool products direct. I have used them for two summers to open and close my pool, do my weekly chemicals and for quite a few repairs to my older pool system. Although communication with Todd is all done through email rather than phone, he responds to every one of my emails almost instantly and if I email at night, I have a response by 6:00 in the morning. His technicians are at my house for repairs the very next day after something breaks and have gotten my stuff repaired for very reasonable prices. My pool has been crystal clear for two years straight and I have never once added any of my own chemicals. Todd is a straight shooter, honest, and fair and his technicians know how to get the job done fast and right. I would be in a tough spot this summer with my pool without Todd and pool products direct. Thanks a lot guys!Clint Spohn

I am new to Pool Product Direct and I am very pleased with Todd and PPD. Todd is very prompt with his emails and the service is always performed on time and as described. He gave me options for either fixing or replacing the pump, his staff orientated me on how to run the pump/filter and they are currently advising me on how to fix/maintain the chemicals. I had one minor issue and he was willing to give a fair compromise which I am more than happy with. Thank you Todd and PPD, you have found a loyal customer in me!

Its hard to even describe the interactions I had with Todd; it was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a company...EVER. His online scheduler had not been reset yet so I emailed him directly about setting up a pool opening time. He indicated the calendar had not been reset for the new season and he set me up for an appointment via email. When the time came he denied that ever happening even after I forwarded him the original emails. Proceeded to berate me via email and tell me it is my loss as he will never work with me again and he is the best and best priced in the area. I was floored!

In my opinion: The owner told me I should be ashamed of my wife for her statements regarding this company and then notified me that a lawsuit was inevitable if she didn’t fix or retract the previous review while implying we were “millennials”. I believe the owner should be ashamed of how defensive he gets when dealing with customers.Update: First of all, DO NOT tell me that I should be ashamed of my wife. We retracted our reviews and emailed that we apologize things had gotten this out of hand but certainly did not want to deal with going to court. I have emails from Todd where he admits that the technicians forgot to communicate the need for a new J-tube. After the service, we were emailed a revised invoice which was the first we were learning of any additional charges. This is primarily what my wife was referring to in her original review. Not sure why Todd is so defensive and insists on getting the last word in.

I have been using Todd at Pool Products for years. He has done routine opening and closings each year along with installation of new equipment and repairs. His customer service is OUTSTANDING !! Most recently, I emailed him at 7 pm with an urgent crisis and leaving town for 3 days the next morning. It was compounded by 3 days of 90 degree heat and family visiting for the whole week and family reunion. 7 young grandkids expect to swim! I got an e-mail response from Todd at 5:40 am the next day, and two of his best guys were at my house already having diagnosed issue by 7 am. They needed to track down a part and called me twice during the day to update me on the situation. The guys went above and beyond to figure out away to get my pump and chlorination working while awaiting rush shipped part from Texas. They once again were at my house by 7 am the day part arrived. We did not miss a beat using our pool thanks to their vigilance and dedication to customer service. FYI; price is always fair and reasonable.Anyone who has any need for your swimming pool is nuts to go anywhere else!!Thank you Todd and crew,Cindy PalomoP. S He has also rescued me at other times when my pump died, as well as another time I had company and my heater died. Just shows customer service is consistently remarkable !

DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE!!!We had bought a new pool motor from this company and in less than a year it seemed to be failing. The guy we were in contact with insisted our wiring was the issue so we had multiple certified electricians check it out and were told that that could not be the issue. When we reported that back to Pool Products Direct they insisted we were using our electrician friends to try and cheat them. They were disrespectful throughout the entire process. Suffice it to say they will not be getting our business again.

Service person caused a crack in the housing of my pool pump by screwing a gauge in too tightly and the owner Todd refused to do anything about besides provide me the charges of what it would cost to fix it; which was three times the cost of a new part. Won’t use them anymore.

We have been using Pool Products Direct for over 7 years. Ive had my pool for 15 years, and so happy to have found Pool Products Direct. The prices are honest and fair. People get scared when they buy a house with a pool (I was at first) as it could be a money trap, but it is not with Pool Products Direct. In the 7 years Ive been using them, ive actually never seen or met them. All the service is done while Im not home, and they do great work and never leave a mess. They have an easy to use website to do all your ordering, and I found the chlorine and chemicals to be cheaper than Amazon and Menards. Best to order your chemicals when you are opening your pool, as they give you a discount and deliver it for free. They also cured a major algae issue many years ago. You cant go wrong with these guys!

They do not stand by their work. Ive had my pool motor replaced twice in the last 2 years and had to pay full price for each because the owner claims the issue is due to electrical. Apparently he knows more than electricians with more than 25 years experience who told me there was nothing wrong with the electrical and that it was due to a faulty motor. Even had the breakers changed and he still claimed the breakers burned out the motor and wants me to pay another 400+ to replace it a 3rd time!! Todd is very rude and doesnt listen to customers or professionals. His business practices seem to be based on an Im always right mentality. He brags about having so many customers that he doesnt need my business so Im writing this review to advise others to go elsewhere for their pool needs. He just doesnt care about his customers and doesnt stand by his work.

Was not happy with my pool opening & wrote Mr. Wilson the following email:My email to Mr. WilsonI was disappointed with the pool opening this year. My wife was home & said the people were rushed & looked like they just wanted to get it done & not necessarily right.I found that the jets were just put in and not aimed to promote circulation and only 2 screws per jet were used. There were enough in the bag to use the 4 per jet that should be used. His responseScott - I personally opened the pool and rushed we always are but this has NEVER caused us to cut corners on the work we do. We also went above and beyond what we charge for by carrying and placing the cover exactly where your wife wanted it placed. Truth be told, I was a little miffed at her for expecting us to do this. I made the decision to install only two screws per jet as this is all that is required to hold them in place and the water temperature made it difficult for my helper to keep his hands underwater. As far as how you prefer the jets to be positioned, every person is different and its impossible to know what you want unless you leave us a note. Maybe I need to start charging $50 more to open a concrete pool as it takes twice as long to open in comparison to vinyl lined pools. If you want the extra screws installed let me know and I will send someone out to do this. For the record, When Im on the job I do put pressure on my employees to rush as I do not believe in walking at the jobsite. If a 20 something kid cant keep up with a 50 year old man that has had 2 back surgeries, a neck fusion, and an elbow surgery then I do not need them working for me. Mistakes can be made. It is how the company handles the mistakes that matters. Pool Products Direct closed the pool last fall and removed removed 4 screws from each jet. My wife was in the yard when they were done & Mr. Wilson didnt even take the time to let her know he was done. His response was very unprofessional.Very poor customer service. Will not do business with Pool Products Direct again.Scott

Difficult to reach, as he will not answer the phone. And after spending $1,000 on overpriced repairs, and asking for them to be fixed as there was still water spewing from a leak, I received this response:WOW!!! David, you are an idiot so please take your business else ware. To think we caused all your problems tells me that you totally lack ANY common sense or mechanical aptitude.Good luck with your pool!!!!I have over 900 satisfied local service customers and another 3200 nationally. Todd J. WilsonOwner/OperatorNot the response I would expect from a company, from the owner, and obviously they do not back up their service, and instead resort to calling their customers names. I would recommend as the owner states, take your business elsewhere. I wouldnt really give them one star, except I have to on this rating form.

I am a little surprised by the negative reviews, and find myself wondering about the story behind the story - there ALWAYS is one.....!I have done business with PPD for quite some time, as a matter of fact, Mr. Wilson installed my pool himself in 1999. I buy many products online from PPD and get the local delivery, but others products I buy from the people who do the free pool water testing by my home. Seems appropriate to support the companies that provide the service! However, when something is not right with the pool, mechanically or even stubborn water quality issues, I email Todd at PPD. Just this weekend we noticed an extremely low water level in our closed pool, and I sent an email late Saturday assuming Id get a response by Monday regarding a service call. I had that response with in 90 minutes, the appointment scheduled for Tuesday (today), the problem found AND fixed by noon.I have found Todd to be very energetic in how he works personally, and I imagine his people wouldnt last too long if they did not maintain the same pace! I would not classify that as hurried, simply efficient, however I operate the same way so I am biased. I also MAY have a tendency toward wishing people good luck in their future endeavors when I have had my patience level exhausted! Those with negative reviews certainly have the right to express their opinions, experiences, and recommendations freely, and to spend their money elsewhere. I shall continue to support PPD with mine. They have earned it.
