Thought I’d find another kitty to befriend the one I currently own. Walked in to look at the felines and eventually found one a little over a year that would’ve been perfect! We decided to adopt her! Sounds great right? WRONG, we had to wait about 4 days AFTER we visited and filled out the application to even hear from the shelter. Just to let us know that there are MANY other steps to be approved. I get you’re trying to find a great person to adopt these animals but come on. I’ve owned cats my ENTIRE and I felt like I was being interrogated and that I wasn’t good enough of a pet owner. I wouldn’t recommend this place but if you had a good experience then I’m happy for you. But I will never go back. :(

I rescued a kitten from a dumpster in the State College area, and Centre County PAWS was an incredibly helpful resource. They rent out Havahart traps, and the one I used was clean and in good condition. They offered me kitten food from their foster cat supplies. Ultimately, the kitten was rescued and is doing fine, and Im incredibly appreciative of the support that I received from Centre County PAWS throughout that process. They also had $10 cat carriers when I stopped in which I purchased to transport the newly found kitten to and from my apartment.

We adopted our first dog from PAWS about 2 months ago and couldnt be happier with the experience and the outcome. PAWS has a rigorous application process (as did all other reputable shelters we came across in our search) which proved to be very effective in matching us with an ideal companion. Once our application was approved, there was a very quick turnaround time to meet and take home our dog Elliott. The shelter staff and Elliotts foster answered all of our questions, loaned us any supplies we needed to be able to take him home the same day we met him, and set us up with vouchers for a free bag of food and a free vet appointment. This is such a fantastic shelter that cares so deeply about their animals and the people they adopt to. We are so grateful to them for finding us the perfect dog and highly recommend them to anybody looking to bring a new pet into their family.

We’ve been lucky enough to adopt two of our family members from PAWS. The staff was friendly and explained the entire process. My favorite part is becoming part of the PAWS community-attending events like the dog alumni event and sharing update photos. Both of our pets were fortunate to be in a foster home before coming to our home and the fosters were so kind and loving. Their facility is amazing, but knowing our pets were able to be in a loving home before they came to us made me feel so much better. I couldn’t believe our pets came to us up to date on all their shots, spayed, and microchipped ..it is incredible they are able to do all of that for the small adoption fee. Check out PAWS for your next family member, you will not regret it!

I am happy to give the strongest review of PAWS from the perspective of a foster, volunteer, and an adopter. PAWS has enabled me to be a part of the solution towards facilitating happy endings for many dogs. As a foster, I get to assess dogs preferences, training level, and begin training to improve their fit in their new homes. As a volunteer, I get to play with many dogs and help place them in loving homes by being dedicated to best fit and making sure that the families and the dogs are set up for success. Finally, as an adopter, PAWS has helped me fill up my life many times with a new 4-legged family member. Sometimes I needed to be patient and work with the Adoption Counselors to ensure best fit and success in my home. Patience has payed off many times.

PAWS is an incredible organization that really stands out in terms of how much effort they put into placing animals in their perfect homes. They’re not looking to just unload animals to anyone that will take them. They’re committed to finding animals their forever homes and will provide outstanding care to those animals until that day comes. I adopted my dog, Daryl, from them after he had spent a little over two years in the shelter off and on. He has some behavioral issues that intensified in his previous home and I don’t think many other shelters would have given him a chance after he returned to PAWS from that home. But PAWS did, got him professional training, and worked to address his issues. He’s a perfect angel baby and I’m so thankful PAWS took such good care of him until I could adopt him. I’d highly recommend anyone in Central PA looking to adopt to start with PAWS.

I felt attacked and judged when I entered this building. I had been considering adopting a cat for a very long time but wanted to make sure that my schedule would be open enough to give an animal the time it needed. I have been around and raised various cats and dogs my entire life and felt it was the perfect time to apdopt from a shelter. When I told the women in the front I was interested in adopting a cat the only thing they asked me was if I was an undergrad student. In a very rude and condesending tone they proceeded to tell me that I was unable to adopt a cat based on my current academic level, even though I am about to graduate this fall. The women told me they would contact me if any of their policies changed yet never asked for any type of contact information, indicating that she had no intention of ever allowing me to adopt a cat from this shelter. This is discrimination, there is nothing holding me back from providing a safe and loving enviroment for a cat. I am appalled at this service. I would like you to know I have found another cat and she is very happy.

I went to PAWS to adopt a dog and felt very unwelcomed simply because I was an undergrad. I have been planning to adopt a dog for a couple months now and my finances were in order, my community is very dog friendly and my schedule has me gone for 2 maybe 3 hours a day at most. I am surrounded by dogs in my friends and family and aware of the sacrifices and the responsibility it takes. It is the perfect time for me to get a dog. But none of this mattered, simply because I was a student. The faculty was so rude and unwelcoming. I was very excited about the dog I was meeting and when I asked about the dog and the application process the faculty members did not share my enthusiasm what-so-ever. The only interaction I had with the employees were rude interrogations with ignorant assumptions. Also I had volunteered at this shelter for 2 years, I stopped a few years ago. Yet I was told that to adopt this dog I would have to volunteer another 20 hours and the dog would not be put on hold for me. So while I am working for them to adopt this dog they could just give it to someone else?? I will not be contributing to this business. There are plenty of other shelters that would be happy for me to adopt one of their dogs.

I’ve visited this humane society on three separate occasions and each time I’ve been greeted by rude, demeaning, and tactless employees. They debased me simply because I was an undergrad and was, in their eyes, seen as childish and unable to properly take care of my own dog (not knowing that I have already raised a puppy into a mature and well mannered adult dog.) This presumptuous way of thinking led them to constantly reply to my questions with snide remarks while referring to me as a kid. I am a 24 year old with my own house, yard, and part time job. I went to the volunteer training. While handling a dog, I politely asked the instructor if I could choose not to wrap the dog leash around my wrist because it could cause wrist and hand injuries such as fractures and dislocations or ruptured tendons if the dog suddenly pulls hard. This is a safety precaution Ive learned over the years from working with a few professional dog trainers. The instructor, instead of addressing my safety concerns, got defensive and talked down at me in front of everyone and threatened that if I cant handle the dog then I shouldnt be volunteering. She then continued to talk down to me and make up her mind that I cant handle the dog I was walking when the dog was simply a little excited to be outside. To be fair, the leash was incorrect length (too long) and the dog ended up pulling all the volunteers walking him, including the instructor. Later on, I was able to peacefully handle another dog that was considered the same level as the previous dog.I didnt realize bringing up safety concerns could cause such an extreme and abnormal defensiveness from the instructor. Someone who is responsible training other volunteers should know how to handle a leash in ways that minimize the risks of wrist injuries. Bullying new volunteers and making them disregard their own safety just to incorrectly use the leash her way is just neglectful and irresponsible.I have done my share of rescue and volunteering overseas. Ive dealt with dogs that were traumatized and abused in ways you dont want to imagine. Im here to volunteer with good intention. However I find it alarming that it took so little to cause the volunteer training manager to lash out and antagonize a prospective volunteer who brought up a safety concern in good faith.

I went in to adopt a dog, they told me I would most likely be denied because I had an unfixed cat in the house. I get it there are rules that must be followed. My adoption advisor told me that they could possibly accept if I got her an appointment to he fixed. I texted her the day after per her request and she did not respond. That evening I received an email stating that someone else had been filling out an application and so they got the dog we were looking at. Thats fine. A few days later, she texted me informing me that they were about to get another litter of puppies and wanted to know if I was interested and if my cat had an appointment. I understand that there are rules to be followed but it just seems pretty fishy and unfair that I couldnt adopt the dog we were originally looking at but, I could adopt a different dog under the same circumstances. We do our adopting elsewhere now.

I had to leave to get back home before they were opened again since the hours are limited. I made arrangements with the friend there for me to come back. Unprofessional and discriminatory towards students of all ages. They do not tell you their policy of adopting the dogs until after meeting them. one of the volunteers insulted our ability to care for an animal because we are students. We asked if the circumstances would be different if we were the same age with a full time job, and not a student, and they said yes. If you want to adopt you need to volunteer 20 hours of your time to the facility, but if your school schedule doesnt align with their operating hours, they say you are unfit to take care of a dog, and will not allow you to adopt one of the precious animals that they have there. They do not take into consideration, your ability to care for the dog, but only how much time you will work for the facility. A better place to adopt animals is at Pets Come First, as they take time to train the dogs there, and make them more friendly. The dog trainers put a lot of time and effort into the animals to prepare them to be around other animals and people. They also care more about the ability to care for the dogs, and ask about whether or not you can provide the love and care that they need, and whether or not you are financially responsible to do so.They also do not discriminate towards students. (Granted some should not have pets, but if theres honest people out there who can and will take care and provide all the love that they need, they should be able to adopt the dog, not be discriminated against.)

We tried adopting a second dog from Paws and found some issues with communication. The dogs themselves seem very happy and someone was always there to answer questions, do the meet and greet, etc. Although Sundays are super chaotic. We visited several times over about 3months with different dogs and each time we were told, no, you cant have this one because he requires a fence, which you dont have. Finally 4-5 meets later, one of the volunteers finally admitted that we could not get a hound, the breed we specifically listed as a preferred breed, because of the lack of fencing at our home. They sort of pushed a young special needs puppy on us instead (even though we listed 1yr or older on the application). I completely understand their requirements about the fencing, but we were quite upset having been through the ringer of the application, several meet and greets and the let-down of this could be the one! several times.

First: The staff and volunteers here are great. They really care about the animals and make sure they are going to good homes. I was a reference for my friends who adopted a kitten, and they emailed me and several others a pretty comprehensive feedback form about them. They paid a small adoption fee, but sometimes that fee is waived, or animals have guardian angels that have pre-paid the fee. Im pretty sure all of the cats and dogs who leave here have been spayed or neutered already, and they share as much history of the animal as they can. Its a process that takes a couple of weeks, but I think thats a good thing. The tireless volunteers really deserve credit as they make this place what it is: terrific for both the animals here and the humans who adopt them.

No sooner than the words “kennel cough” were out of my mouth, the woman ASSUMED I was there to complain or try to return my dog. She told me in no uncertain terms that once the adoption was final it was my problem. I had to bring her down to earth. Not nice and not appreciated.

Best place on earth if you have to be a homeless dog or cat.

They dont help cats that are left outside in the cold by the owner, they give them right back to the owner just because it has a microchip., The owners are still leaving the cat outside, I see it everyday and it begs people for food.

Staff can be very biased when choosing who gets the dog. Even in the room with interested adopters, one of the staff had said he would already get the dog. In the end, the gentleman they chose to give the dog to, returned the animal. Great pick of owner guys.

VERY BIASED AND OFFENSIVE, question a lot of stuff even the ones none of their business, and made me a psycho/fool with my full heart to love animals. 5 stars for the well cared animals, 0 star for staffs. I’d rather buy an animal to avoid such harassment, PAWS sells animals just like a shop so it doesn’t matter where to buy anyway. their attitude just helps increasing animal trafficking instead of helping animals to find their humans and homes.WHEN WE ASKED TO SEE THE AVAILABLE ANIMALS WE INTERESTED IN, THE VOLUNTEER SAID SHE WENT TO CHECK IF THERE IS AN EMPTY ROOM AND LET US FOLLOW HER, BUT SHE THEN CAME BACK AND HAD THE ANIMALS TO ANOTHER FAMILY!! HOW THE HELL OF THIS HAPPENED???Update: Better to not reply such offensive words with no apology at all.

I have had the pleasure of visiting twice from SC. The organization that I run sends dogs under a year old to this great group every 6 weeks. They are a pleasure to work with and we are so very appreciative for all they do.

Centre county paws has united me with my sweet girl, Daisy. I brought her home today. My adoption counselor, Ellen, was diligent and accommodating. She really found the perfect match. I cant express what a great organization that this is. They have been so organized and professional. I would highly recommend taking a look here if you are looking for a new companion. I would give three thumbs up!! Thankyou Ellen!! Thankyou PAWS!!! Great Job!!!

It seemed like i wasnt welcomed to get dog. And their dogs are not aloud to be regested emotional service. Dog.i am handicap. She seemed to try to deter me for getting. One. I didnt know i had to have training for a emotional support dog. I mainly want a companion to love care for. It makes me happy to be with animals to play with or brush. The reason i said going to training school was because i wanted to make sure we could learn each other out. Thats. All.
