I came in last night with chest pain. Absolutely everyone treated me kindly. I came in contact with doctors, aids, nurses, technicians, housekeeping, interns to transporters. All treated me with dignity and kindness. Thank you all for helping me so wonderfully. I appreciated being able to stay calm and know I was in good hands.

Brought my 5 month old daughter in for decrease in urine. Dr. Faye first of all asked of me and her father were vaccinated after our response she immediately expressed her rude thoughts. She kept asking what we wanted them to do for our daughter . We are not doctors that’s why we brought her in. They took her blood attempted an iv for fluid her vein blew. So we fed her she threw up the right after. Got her blood tests back showing she was dehydrated . She wanted us to feed her again she wouldn’t take it so another iv attempted the nurse Emily couldn’t get it told us she wasn’t poking her again someone else could try if they wanted .. my daughter finally took a bottle and kept it down but peed very little. So after her tests showing she was dehydrated we got sent home with absolutely no answers and told to come back if she doesn’t get better. Then her discharge papers says inflammation in intestines which was never said to us nor did she ever have anything done to look for that. Not a happy parent at all. This place is a joke. So much for being the best hospital for children.

I was brought to st Johns Springfield on Sept. 13 2021 for major heart attack. I was in the icu the first 36 hours. They did a fantastic job fixing my problem. On the 2rd day they transferred me to another floor for recovery. On that floor I was treated very rudely and terribly mean. The staff was hateful and rude. When I asked to sign myself out they tried bringing in psychiatrist to to get me locked up. I was sick and very scared. A nurse put her hands on me Ive never been treated so poorly by a medical team in my life. I was there to recover from a major heart attack. I was not there for any psychological treatment. Im still so confused. It has left me afraid to trust medical profession.

Had lower abdominal pain and checked into the emergency room Sunday evening. Everyone from the support staff, nurses, radiologist, anesthesiologist, and of course doctors provided the best care imaginable. They made a relatively serious issue feel routine. I felt comfortable and informed throughout the entire process. Within 5 hours of checking in I was in surgery and on the mend. If you have any issues this the best hospital around! Thank you St. John’s for all you do! 👍

Took my mom in to get looked at for head pain and numbness (she has Anyrisms) a while back and it took more than three hours to get looked at. Even people who came in after her were brought back first. Thr receptionist was very rude and callous. I had an upset look I guess and she looked at me and said why are you mean-mugging me? I went to charge my phone on the courtesy charge port and got a big shock. No one made sure I was ok after I told them and all they did was put an out of order sticker on it...worst experience ever at a hospital...

The ICU is very caring and attentive, thats who gets the 2 stars. Once my disabled Aunt transferred from ICU to a regular room they were completely neglectful. My 75yo Aunt, unable to walk by herself, just got out of major surgery for kidneys and blood infections, couldnt even adjust her seating position without help, got extremely neglected. My mom was there visiting for 2 days and saw how bad it was. One day, the floor was totally empty, she pushes the nurse button, she had an extremely painful issue with the catheter being put in wrong. 3 people visit, including her doctor (doctors are supposed to help, right?) and no one helps. They all say, your nurse is coming. Like there is only 1 person in the building that can fix a catheter. 2 hours later, being completely helpless and in pain, gets it fixed.now, imagine that all day, being seen maybe twice and having no help with anything. so, keep her on a catheter and a poop bag and leave her all day. Absolutely terrible and disturbing.

I don’t know why but my appointments keep getting canceled. I asked them why and they said they don’t know. It’s really frustrating. I have to take time off work to go to these appointments. When I show up they tell me it’s been canceled. Please stop canceling my appointments. Going to the hospital is stressful enough. They won’t even fit me into their schedule even though I’m supposed to be scheduled to be there.

I came to the ER with breathing difficulty due to having covid the hospital immediately put me in a room and began giving me treatments to give me relief. When i was put in a regular room my night nurse(a younger African man I can’t remember his name) was very soft and put off a very comforting energy. This made me feel better as I was having lots of anxiety. When I was moved into ICU i was put on a ventilator that night and as family members have told me the nurse Michelle was absolutely amazing. She took care of me and was great about keeping my family informed. It is so relieving to hear that even in a coma I was given great care. They did everything they could and knew when it was time to send me to a bigger hospital. I will forever owe this hospital for my life.

I kept getting thrown as soon as I would get to the switch board to my moms room. I would try to explain to them I want the nurses station. I took three calls before somebody finally listened to me instead of just rushing to o a conclusion. Then the nurses station was just as bad. I am trying to explain a complicated situation and they gave me literally 6 seconds or less. Theres no way I can do that. And they wont even give me a straight answer. So Im suppose to wait for god knows when to maybe get a call back. Regardless if this works out or not I am not impressed. It shouldnt have to be difficult to constantly call back do all of this. We were told weeks before my little brothers surgery 2 parents were allowed to come in, my father was unable so my mother asked if I could in his place and a nurse said yes that was fine... we drive over an hour at 4am to find out Im not allowed to stay because Im not his parent was told they dont bend the rules so I drive an hour back home and while my mother was waiting in the waiting room she was told by a mother and grandmother of another young patient that they called and made the same argument and were allowed the grandmother to come in place of the father yet I was not after being told it was fine. So my mother was left without any support of help while her 4 year old son went through a multiple hour surgery away from home. I think it was very unprofessional and the woman at the front desk was not understand at all about it. After the surgery his nurse even said that was unfair and not appropriate for me to leave yet another person in the same situation was allowed to stay within the same time frame ?

The only reason I went to the ER at this hospital was b/c of the care my son received 2 years ago, but times have changed. I do not recommend going to the ER at this place. The doctor had no compassion and poor bedside manners. She asked me less than a hand full of questions (literally), dismissed most of my symptoms and wrote me a prescription for pain meds that I dont need. Sadly, experiences like this are why people get discouraged and dont see a doctor.

Not thrilled about this place. Cleanliness is quite poor, dust on walls, dirt building up in corners, shower floor was very dirty. Wasnt real pleased with some of the staff. Couple of nurses were very compassionate but couple seemed snotty and rude. Some if the nurses blatantly ignored requests from patient, and wasnt check on from for many hours until 4am, then all the nurses want to come in and wake up patient to do the entire night worth checking then.... at 4am.... not good conduct in my opinion. Patient asked for glass of water and had to wait almost 4 hours to recieve it. Terrible conduct for that.... will prob travel to Champaign next time and try luck there. Management needs to do some walks throughout and check cleanliness and observe conduct when they think they arent being observed. May realize how neglectful some of the nurses are. This wasnt all of them, as there were some kind compassionate staff, but the ones that werent sure do leave bad taste in mouth.

Bad and great experience!(Bad 1st) Went to wrong St. John’s building (cardiovascular pavilion)( which is extremely confusing to get mixed up because they are attached) and asked directions to cust service reps right inside the doors. I didn’t know where the surgery center was and thought I was in correct building. One lady didn’t speak English well and other was extremely rude and didn’t even try to be helpful. Acted like I was making a scene even though I was trying to get across the word vein surgery to lady who couldn’t understand what I was saying because she knew little English. Rude lady cut in and Said “ Can I Help You? She acted like she couldn’t understand Me either, like she was already irritated by my presence. Her help was saying I should of been given instructions! She said she was hard of hearing but, my daughter spoke in low calm voice in a way I couldn’t even hear and rude lady told her to go upstairs, they might be able to help? She said she was hard of hearing yet she heard my daughter? I talk loud because I have a hearing aid and partial lossof hearing. She sent us on wild goose chase to find correct surgery center. Eventually a kind man helped me find correct building for my surgery. Next:The registration clerk at surgery center was cold, commanding, not caring. I was extremely stressed and upset by time I went into surgery prep area.(Amazing experience)Rhonda was my attending nurse in surgery and she was a breath of fresh air. Actually even though I was on verge of tears and upset on the inside the entire surgery staff really calmed me and made the whole process smooth! Very blessed to have such a good doctor and wonderful nurses! 1 star went to 3 because of medical staff!!! They deserve 5 stars, hospital deserves 1. Advice, surgery checkin is confusing, I watched 6 people besides me go to surgery desk and then get sent to registration across the hall. Also St. John’s should hire friendly, caring, good customer service reps to be the front line for your hospital. I cant say enough about the staff, surgeons and facility quality. I lived and worked with a c 5-6 hernia for almost a year before I found Dr. Neil Patel. Im in the healing process from my ACDF but I can neither adequately pay them back nor can I give them enough praise for everything they did for me. A special thank you to the staff on 9 and ortho recovery.

Hospitals only out for money not patient needs. The nurses know nothing about you or proper treatment for certain illnesses. Would rather see someone die than give them food if that is what needed.they call outside people

I prefer St. Johns over Decatur Memorial and St. Marys.Doctors are better at St. Johns. Dr. Abrams and Emily Martin rule!!!!! They care about patients.Do not talk ish about this hospital, you couldnt get better care anywhere else. If you have ANYTHING negative to say, please bite your tongue.
