A newly constructed building located behind the old location, on Main Street in Southbury. Parking is located in the front if the building for the hardware store and in the rear for power equipment. The old building will be housing the rental equipment. Upon entering the store is clean neatly organized. The store has supplies in nearly all needed categories saving a trip to a big box store. For summer grilling, Weber products are in stock along with all accessories. As a Big Green Egg dealer, nearly all sizes are on display with again all accessories to make your neighbors envious. If home decor is on the honey do list, paints are in stock and custom mixing available. All of the associates that we met were helpful and friendly.
The staff here is amazing. Big shoutout to Don for being so helpful and making sure we got everything we needed when we had to make an emergency stop here on a long road trip.
Rented the 6 Vermeer chipper, it did the job in spades and handled some pretty gnarly brush. Chatfield made the process easy with excellent service and friendly staff. Ill be back to rent from them again. Dont hesitate to use them!
Great selection, new clean layout, and always there to help with any questions. Awesome customer first attitude.
Chatfield True Value Hardware rented us a beautiful tent, tables, chairs and table cloths for my sons Confirmation and it was perfect! The gentlemen who came to set up/take down really did a great job. My yard looked lovely and the party was a success.
Very nice store and the owner Chuck is awesome. I was dropping off a truckload of old paint at their disposal box and the owner helped me unload all of it which he really didnt have to do because the store makes no money off paint disposal and im sure there was other work to be done on a busy Sunday. I appreciated the help so Im leaving this review as a thank you.
Love this store, very helpful staff. I have used this store to get materials on a good few projects and the products are never sub par. Prices on wire and pvc are unbeatable and I highly recommend this store for hobbyists, electricians, and plumbers.
Great service and happy to support a local business.
Chatfield’s fixed our snowblower and did so in reasonable time at a reasonable price! Couldn’t ask for more. Added bonus the kid who dropped off the blower to our house was very kind and courteous. Highly recommend and would do business with again!
The new building is excellent. Easy to find what I need.
I like the folks who work here, they were very helpful. Nice huge new store with service department downstairs.
The wors company ever I rented a mini excavator for 7 days they delivered a junk excavator with issues I started to do the backfield and the hose blow upI call them and someone on phone was very rude!I paid the amount for full week and insurance included! They charge me $180 extra for the hose!I never heard or got charged extra in rental tools!Short they are sucks and disrespectful people I will never rent again from them!
Staff was friendly & helpful.
Very helpful staff, great selections
The BEST!!! Very friendly and knowledgeable! Everything and anything you are looking for.
Fantastic looking new store!
Great local place for everything from cleaning products to high end commercial lawn care equipment. The staff knows their products well and always look out for the customer. You can not get this type of service in the big box stores!
Amazing. Customer service always working with the customer. Also have everything you could possibly need
Awesome place to do business. Purchased a Stihl BR700 leaf blower a few weeks ago. Was having some initial problems with it so I brought it in for a fix. When the fix didn’t work I brought it back and Mike, the owner, didn’t even bother looking at it. He gave me a NEW one! No questions asked. He told me he would rather have a happy customer than have me keep coming back. Turns out the leaf blower was defective. My new BR700 works great. No issues. So because of that great experience with Chatfield, I went back and bought a snow blower from them. Their price was competitive with other places I looked at and when I bought it, Mike helped me again and I told him I bought it from Chatfield because of how accommodating he was with the leaf blower issue.Keep up the great customer service. You do have a customer for life.
Their hours still list them as being open till 6:00. They are open till 5:00. This kind of screwed me over.
I went in on Sunday March 26, 2017 to Chatfield carrying a bathroom sink with two badly corroded faucets that I couldnt remove. I was hoping to buy a tool to take off the faucets. Charlie spent 45 minutes helping me to remove the faucets from the sink. I wanted to pay him for his time and help but he wouldnt take any money. What a wonderful family run business this is. I highly recommend Chatfield.
A little pricey, like most smaller hardware stores but its right in town and they have a good selection. Staff during the week is awesome! Weekend staff is horrible. Typical teenager /young employee mentality - they want you in and out so they can go back to socializing with each other, cant answer questions or give blow-off answers to try to get rid of you. Nevertheless sometimes you just have to go to the hardware store on weekends. Typically closed Sundays in winter.
These boys set you up and keep you running! Trusted equipment combined with professional service!
My daughter was married in October, with 125 guests, in my backyard. We rented everything from Chatfield: one very large tent, tables, chairs, lighting, heaters, and even the deluxe portable toilets with their own generator. (You have to see them to believe them!). From the first information-gathering contact we had with them over a year ago, to their finally pulling out of the driveway when everything was over, they (every employee who helped us at one stage or another) were fantastic. They were friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and very helpful in all of our decision making. I highly recommend them to you for any such outside event.
Best Hardware Store! They have just about everything you will need for your home. I go to purchase home repair parts, potting soil, chain saw blades, tools, have my propane tank filled, and the rental center is all you need for that next party. Awesome prices and the staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and always helpful.
Friendly staff very helpful. This place always has what I’m looking for.
PROS: This is a great local hardware store. Selection is impressive, and youll find what your looking for more often than not. The tool and equipment rental shop is equally impressive, with a good selection and prices that compete directly with Home Depot. Employees are generally friendly and knowledgeable.CONS: They definitely suffer from small town shop hours, essentially only open during banking hours. Prices for some items are on the higher side.Overall, its an excellent hardware store for local residents who prefer to support a local business, or just dont want to do the drive to Waterbury or Danbury. For equipment rental, Ill always try Chatfield first.
Excellent store
To save making a trip for nothing I called Chatfields to verify an item was in stock and on the shelf.A girl answered and I asked her if she could check for me. I told her I was looking for 6D finish nails 2 long, and that I need that exact size. It seemed she wasnt familiar with such things so I asked her if she could write it down so she could check. Five minutes later she came back and said yes we have the 4D nails. So I explained to her thats not what I needed and repeated 6D finish nails 2 long. So she oh, ok, hold on. A couple seconds later she said yeah we have those. I knew she didnt have time to check so I asked her are you sure, I need those exact nails and I dont want to drive down there for nothing. She said yup Im sure, we have them. Twenty minutes later we arrived at Chatfields. The girl I spoke to was at the register. The one with multi colored hair. We told her we had called about the finish nails. After a bit, and someone else there looking also, the store did not have the nails I needed. Apparently, the girl had lied about checking, I guess she didnt want to be bothered.I try to support local businesses, and assume they appreciate their customers. I was wrong. Very disappointed. Home Depot had what I needed so I went and got them there.
This place has a lot of good stuff to rent and the employees are very helpful
Bought a scag zero turn from them, very nice very knowledgeable and price was right.Very happy with them
They had what I needed, just had to find it myself. They are adhering to all social distancing.
I was able to rent everything I needed for a party from Chatfield in Southbury. Everything was clean and beautiful. The service was great. Chris and Joe were extremely helpful. I recommend and will be using Chatfield for all my party rentals in the future.
I have rented here a few times, and the equipment worked well, no problems. A quick delivery and explained operation of the equipment well. I think the prices are competitive.
Great staff. nice and knowledgeable. nice new store layout. Great power equipment rentals (and party rentals) in addition to traditional hardware.
Brought my lawn tractor here after it would not put power to the ground after we changed the rear tires. Their diagnosis was a bad transaxle and apparently needed a new head gasket, and telling us it was “not worth fixing”. After deciding to take it back and taking it apart, we found that it was only missing the axle keys on each side, a $2 fix. This not only means that the tractor was never even touched by a service technician, but also that the staff blatently lied to us about what needed to be repaired. After finding new axle keys at another local hardware store, the mower now runs and drives fine.
All around great service - From parts departmwnt to rentals to hardware. Modest but nice selection in hardware section with very knowledgeable employees. Ive used their rental departing from everything to bouncing castles to wood chippers. All rental equipment has been in great working order (unlike some other big orange stores). Finally the parts department is great. I have tractor from the early 80s and their parts deptment not only has the parts I need, but also the expertise to diagnose problems. My go to local hardware store
Extremely helpful! Great staff!
Great place wonderful helpful staff
Good and courtesious service.
We rented a tent and dance floor from Chatfields for our wedding. They were excellent to work with & the tent was the perfect size for our event.
Top notch service, very knowledgable staff that is honest and dependable. Hardware store staff is also very helpful. Supporter local businesses like this
Always has what I need. Prices are compatible with big box stores. Except they have the items in stock. Never a line and the staff knows what they are talking about.
Need some information, namely who paid for all the Porta Potties that ended up in Sandy Hook. No one at Chatfield is willing to state who paid for them, and if you ask nicely they will turn and around and have the State Police in CT call you and state, Do not call Chatfeld. Sandy Hook was of course a CAPSTONE event, 2 1/2 years in the making, everyone involved had scripts, and not one person died. They were all paid $200,000 to take part in the Sandy Hoax.
Very knowledgeable and personalized service. The exact opposite of the Big Box Hardware stores i.e. Home Depot, Lowes
As always... friendly helpful service
Excellent, and clean....many portable toilets to pick from at Sandy Hook Elementary on 12/14/12. A Great experience!
My local go to place for Stihl equipment and service. Great, knowledgeable, trustworthy staff.
Attentive sand knowledgeable Staff... great prices.
Bought a scag mower from chatfields in the summer. Got a triple bagger and lights for it. Its a beast. They have a excellent customer service and they delivered my mower free of charge!!! I recommend chatfields 5 star all the way!!!!
My scag mower had a blow motor had some one else look at it and it had a blow fuse.... Mower runs fine new fuse runs like a champ now
The last weekend in June the mower belt broke on my John Deer Tractor, so I called Chatfield’s and asked if they fix John Deer Tractors and they said they do. But, it will be two weeks before we look at it. At that point we will call you to let you know what is wrong with it. O.k. so far.One month goes by, it’s July 30th and I have not heard from them, so I call in. They tell me it is only the belt and nothing else is wrong. The belt has been on backorder, but they just got a shipment that has not been unloaded yet, so your belt is probably here now.Three weeks go by; it’s August 22 and no call back. I call them and they say, the belt is on back order from the distributor. “Unfortunately, there is nothing they can do if they are not shipping the parts”, I’m told. Then, they call me the next day and say, “we have done some research since you last called and located a belt for your tractor. We will take care of you on the price since it has taken so long”. You will have the tractor for the weekend. But, Monday the 26th comes and there is no tractor, so WE call and they say that the distributer sent the wrong size belt. No ETA on when a new belt may arrive. So, what to do? We Google “John Deer parts, CT” and find a John Deer store in New Milford and call them. They carry the mower belt in stock or we can go to Farmington as they have also had the belt in stock also. We call Chatfield’s back and tell them that WE will go get the correct belt for them so we can finally get our tractor back. It’s a bit of a “heated exchange” since it has now been about 55 days and we still have no date as to when we will get our tractor back (paying $45 ever 10 days to have our lawn cut while waiting for the tractor, $225 up to this point) We buy the belt from John Deer and drop it off on Tuesday the 27th.Wednesday the 28th I get a call that the tractor is ready and the bill is $225. I said that seems like a lot for a belt. The last person who called me (and only person in almost 2 months) said, “because of the very long time this has taken we will take care of you on the bill”. His answer is Well, “I’m the service manager and I am the only one who calls customers and I never said that”. Now, does he mean I imagined the conversation or does he mean I am lying? Hmm Before I say anything, he tells me he will take $50 off and only charge me $175 instead. I say OK, and hang up quickly. I believe its best not engaging a person who will argue about the topic of a conversation that they were not present for.At 2:30 my tractor is delivered but the $175 bill does include a $51 charge for that very same belt that we drove to New Milford to buy and then delivered to them. So, I had to have the poor deliver guys call in and have the $50 taken off the bill.In the end to get the mower belt fixed it took about 57 days, cost $121 and required us to drive to New Milford to purchase the correct belt and deliver it to them. Not so good.
Love this place ! Maureen
