I have an old saab, and whenever I call for a part or need service Phil always comes thru.
Had my spark plugs replaced on my Elantra. Thanks Bruce for getting me in super fast. However for $80 in labor cost for a 10 minute job, i would’ve hoped they put my camshaft back in place. Had to self diagnose and found it was left unplugged
Phils Foreign Auto is a top notch repair facility where they treat their customers amazing. My father brought his 2017 Mini in for diagnostics and they treated him more like family than a first time customer. Hes earned our business for the long haul! Thank you!
This place was recommended by a neighbor. When I called 2 weeks ago, I was quoted an estimate of $500 less and Phil’s was unable to honor that original quote. My appointment was meant to be for 2/9 and Phil’s failed to contact me to let me that there would be a delay in repair. The most concerning part of all was the lack of COVID-19 protocols. Store owners were not wearing masks yesterday or today and did not require customers to wear masks either. I will not be back and do not recommend.
I would highly recommend Phils Foreign Auto!I was getting a fuel smell in the cabin of my Subaru Forester. After taking the car to two other mechanics who were unable to diagnose the issue, I was starting to lose hope. I thought I was going to have to get rid of the car. Then, I came across Phils Foreign Auto. The owner, Bruce, has incredible knowledge about Subarus. He had a good idea of what was going on right away in our initial phone call. I dropped the car off a couple days later and he was able to diagnose and fix the problem. In addition to being an incredibly skilled and knowledgable mechanic, Bruce was very easy to communicate with. He was always quick to respond and texted me photos so I could see the part that needed to be replaced. It is amazing to be able to speak directly with the mechanic, rather than having messages passed on by someone else. I have found my shop for life. I will be taking my Subaru to Bruce for any work that is needed in the future.
Phils Foreign auto has completed ALL of the work needing to be done on my Subaru Impreza after the factory warranty. This establishment is worth waiting for. Usually doesnt have a long wait time for appointments, but if they do, wait for them. They do the work right the first time and they dont find extra things wrong with your car. Your car will exit their shop in better shape than when it entered, as a good mechanic should be. I highly recommend using them. It also helps a local mechanic grow his small business!!!!!
Reasonable with pricing and estimates. Great customer service. Didnt even feel like Covid.
Being in my 70s and having a love for cars I have had dozens of mechanics and quality car care service stations work on them. I have to say that there has never been a more professional and caring repair service work on my vehicles. Bruce recently went way beyond my expectations of any business to care for the safety of my Toyota Sienna and a trip I was about to take. Both of our cars are running better than ever and and at a very reasonable price. Not to mention peace of mind. Thankyou
The team are always 100% in their assessment and beyond fair in the pricing. Tip top independent auto repair.
Bruce knows what hes doing!
They know their VWs and they got me out of a jam in record time. I would trust them with any foreign auto.
Great crew of people at Phils. Many years of knowledge between them. Would highly recommend them for any car, Especially Euro/foreign ones.
Bruce and the team kept my 2000 Volvo going for another 3 years. Another placed wanted to rebuild my engine. They found the issue (not the engine) and fixed it for a lot less than the first quote. Highly recommend. I just wish they would open a second location closer to me!
Tons of lights popped up on my dashboard and I couldnt switch to 4-wheel drive so I called Phils Foreign Auto. I was expecting to have to wait about a week for an appointment but they said to bring it over in 2 days to have a general scan. I brought it over and waited for less than an hour while they found the problem. They had to order the necessary part so I made an appointment for 2 weeks later and they gave me an estimate for what it would cost when all was said and done. When I brought it over the second time, they had it done in 2 hours and the cost was the same as the estimate previously provided to me. Overall, they are very efficient and are just trying to fix the problem you bring your car in for instead of finding anything they can and charging you a ridiculous amount. I would highly recommend this business to my friends/family!
Seriously! I treasure Bruce and his whole team. They are keeping my 78 Beetle and 94 Range Rover on the road. All my thanks and praises. A rare find.
After several unpleasant experiences with the Mercedes dealership, I listened to a trusted client’s advice and brought my vehicle to Phil’s. Bruce takes time to explain issues and suggest repair options. It is refreshing to not feel as though I am being worked over. Phils Foreign Auto provides quality service at a fair price, and they stand behind their work.
All I can say is, I am so thankful for Phils Foreign Auto. I was driving in from out of town for a weekend stay in Portland, when the 2007 Toyota Avalon that I was driving started to sputter and send off the Check Engine light as well as the Vehicle Stabilizer Control light. The car made it to the hotel, but when it was time to leave, I had to figure out what to do. Found a few mechanics, called. No answer or they couldnt look at the car for a week. Not an option. Called a few Toyota dealerships in Massachusetts. Their advice? Tow it to us. Not an option. I found Phils and called. Told them the symptoms, they said drive it over, youll be fine. I did. Bruce ran a diagnostic immediately, and gave a general assessment that it was likely spark plugs and possibly coils. Their employee Abby, a super professional woman, gave us a lift to the Enterprise Rental near by that then gave us a further discount THANKS TO PHILS! We could continue on with our vacation to Massachusetts. The next day, Bruce texted and told me the job was done, and it came in at a third less of the original estimate due to further investigative work! All in all, they were not only life savers, but kind and attentive to out of towners that were in a serious bind. I HIGHLY recommend them.
Have an 05 Saab 9-3, with lots of issues. Bruce just spent half an hour on the phone with me explaining the options, and sharing excellent and first hand knowledge of the vehicle. Extraordinary customer service in my opinion. I would HIGHLY recommend this repair shop to anyone. Thanks again to Bruce!
Super reliable and honest folks, extremely diligent about diagnosing the car and doing the work.
I have relied on Phils Foreign Auto to keep several of my cars on the road throughout the years and they have never let me down. They are dependable, easy to deal with and very reasonably priced. If they cant fix it, it probably cant be fixed! Bruce is a straight shooter and will let you know what needs to be done and you can count on his work being top notch. Highly recommended!
Clean, fast and efficient. easily accessible right in South Portland. Kinda pricey but you know the saying you get what you pay for and these guys are good. Well deserved 4 stars
Took my Audi Q7 in for brakes. Final bill was less than the estimate! I received text updates throughout the day. If you have a foreign car, go see Bruce at Phils.
This business knows its foreign car repair! I became a customer after a bad experience with a dealership. They have never let me done....excellent work, fur prices.
Best place ever. I needed some help with an Audi I had just purchased. The dealership wanted $105 to check what was causing the Airbag light to come on.Not only did they help me with finding out what was causing the light to come on, but after I fixed it they did the scan to shut off the light. With no charge. Thanks a lot for helping me out! Better yet saving me money! You guys are awesome!
I have been using them for a couple years now. Probably about 6 times for two cars in that time. Every time I have gotten the best service. They dont over charge (I have compared) and do look out for your wallet and safety. It is a bit of a drive for me to get there, but worth it.
Bruce has been my mechanic for 15 years. He is honest and trustworthy and a great guy. He kept my old clunker running for many years and when I needed a new car - he was able to fit me in without notice to inspect a used car I was looking to buy. Hes the best.
These guys are the best! I am very grateful for the excellent work and services at Phils Foreign auto. They were recommend to me after I was thoroughly swindled on a used Volvo that had more problems than I could keep track of...so I turned it over to them, and theyve fixed every problem, on time and on budget. I sleep better at night knowing that the next time I find myself standing on the side of the road wondering what just happened all I have to do is call Bruce!
If youre looking for a shop that provides quality work then you should go to Phils. You will find that Bruce and his team do do a great job. The best in the business!!
They say that a great (never mind honest!) mechanic is worth their weight in gold and Phil’s Foreign Auto certainly fits the bill. Bruce Ordway has been taking care of 3 of my cars for well over 15 years beautifully and I wouldn’t think of taking them anywhere else. High praise indeed and duly deserved. Great guy and great place.
5 star service, great people, they do a fantastic job. Very knowledgeable
The rear brakes on my minivan needed to be replaced. On one side the brake pads were completely gone, so every time I braked I heard metal scraping against metal. After removing my wheels to inspect the damage, I determined that I needed new rear brake pads, rotors and calipers. My plan was to fix this myself but it got cold and snowy before I could, so I decided to have someone else do it. Thats when I called Phils Foreign Auto to see if they could help. I spoke with Bruce who told me they were booked for a couple of weeks, which was not ideal because I need my van to haul my kids around everyday. He told me to call the next morning because some people might cancel due to bad weather and he might be able to fit me in. The next morning I called and he said I could drop my van off and hed take a look at it if he had time. I wasnt expecting him to look at it that day and was just happy to have it with a mechanic. Near the end of that same day Bruce texted me to tell me that my van was repaired AND I only needed brake pads and rotors. He said I did not need new calipers, which easily saved me several hundred dollars in repair costs. I was able to pickup my van before they closed that day, it cost less than I thought it would and it drives just like it used to! This was my first time using Phils Foreign Auto and I highly recommend them for anyone needing vehicle repairs. Service was fast and professional. Prices were very reasonable. Most importantly, it felt like Bruce actually cared about me and my situation, which is something I havent found at any other local auto repair businesses.
Professional, courteous, shuttle to work and they do great work!
Took my car here for an oil change and sticker. They gave me a price upfront and didnt try to charge me for any extras my car passed they even filled up my washer fluid.
Ive relied on Phils several times for repairs on my wifes Prius, initially because it was convenient to where I work. Theyve always done excellent work and met their estimate of delivery. After talking with Bruce in the past it was clear to me that he was not only a very good mechanic, but that he had done his research on the regenerative braking system for the Prius, so last week I felt confident in having the front pads and rotors replaced there. Not only was it convenient, but it was a significant savings over going to the dealer. At this point Id have to say that Phils is my mechanic of choice, and I know a number of other people who feel the same way. I would recommend them without hesitation.
Took a while but great service
They are honest, fair and worth the appointment. Great garage, great service, couldnt be happier.
I took my 2006 VW Passat to Phils foreign auto, to get new brakes, tires, ball joint and control arm. Phils foreign auto is the best place I have ever brought my car to get worked on. Phil is the nicest guy and happy to explain everything, very patient. I know little to nothing about cars. He treated me with the upmost respect, and did everything he could to save me money. I would highly recommend Phils foreign auto to anyone who needs work done on their car. As an example my rotors had a bit of rust on them, Phil told me that he did not want to have to charge me for new rotors. So he told he would take it for a drive to see if the rust would come off. It did and saved me a few hundred dollars. If you are looking for an honest and fair priced garage I would highly recommend Phils foreign auto to anyone. I am extremely happy with the work they have done.
Would not recommend Phils Foreign Auto to anyone. Very rude and will charge you money for EVERYTHING they get a chance on. Not professional at all and I would look past these guys.
Perfect for the long term approach. If you plan to keep your car for a long time, bring it every oil change to Phils and ask them to check it over as well.
Knowledgeable but expensive
Ive always been given a square deal here.
Lady who answers the phone was rude!
Bruce is Awesome!
Phils Foreign Auto is a very dependable and reliable foreign car repair facility, with excellent service, customer courtesy, and a great knowledge base of all foreign car makes and models! I highly recommend this car mechanic to anyone looking for reliable car maintenance and repair.
