Don Foshay Discount Tire (South Portland facility) has earned and now has become my go to place for tires and service/maintenance. I have consistently found them honest, competitively priced and up front regarding service & tire matters. It is then backed up by a high level of customer service.

Andrew Hobin was a lifesaver. I was on a road trip to Maine with my family when I stumbled across a pothole and all my tires were affected. I looked around for dealerships and came across this one specifically. When I arrived Andrew not only explained everything but helped me so much. He ordered me tires and got my car back on the road. This is a great shop! I had to cancel an appointment I had made for an estimate on an exhaust leak at the last minute due to a personal emergency. I spoke with Steve who was very understanding and also able to squeeze me into their busy schedule the next day. Not only did I get my fair estimate, but they also ordered the part and completed the repair the very same day! The customer service I received was top notch. Steve even applied my AAA discount which I wouldn’t have otherwise asked about. Many places offer similar services but the supreme customer service and honesty is why I will be returning for any and all automotive needs going forward. I recently had a small vibration coming from my vehicle at high speeds and brought my it to Don Foshays Discout Tire and Alignment. After discussing my issue they recommended that my tires should be rotated, rebalanced, and also check my wheels to see if they have any defects due to terrible roads. After they completed the work they gave me print outs of how far out of balance each tire was. They even took it on a road test (with my permission) to ensure the vibration was gone! Overall great service and friendly staff!

Car had a flat in the driveway, so AAA came and pumped it up. Had not previously needed tire service in Maine so based on reviews, call Don Foshay’s to see if an appointment was necessary to bring it in. Jim said if I could get the car there soon they would take a look before techs went to lunch.Thankfully, the outcome was good news, and they were able to plug the tire.Don Foshay’s Customer service was great, turnaround time quick, and pricing was very reasonable. I’ve been here multiple times. Their work is quality. Their pricing is fair. But they’re customer service (especially in a mechanic- like field) is great. Well above others. And they’re accommodating. I even think they try and help out with price matching in some circumstances. I’d recommend going here.

Made appt. for problems with Volvo V70 noise while driving and turning. Worker looked at my car said it seems like this could be wrong and that could be wrong. Needed to open up car to make a better evaluation. His supervisor said things looked like they might break after opening my car and it could get really costly could not give me an estimate. I am not leaving my car to a garage that says things could break after my car passed state inspection 3 mos ago! Asked about AAA discount. Its NOT worth the discount AAA. MY MONEY IS AS GOOD AS ANYONE ELSES MONEY. Your loss. All I needed was a steering fluid flush, brake pads.

Went in for a mount and balance of 4 new tires. They couldt find my wheel locks and asked me an hour after it had been in the garage... they were in my glove box. They then failed to put all 4 wheels on with one of the new wheels getting eaten by the tire machine. They fixed the tire with some compound and after more than 3 hours in the shop they finally give me my keys. On leaving my TPMS went off almost immediately. When I got to work to check my tires 3/4 rims had new scratches in them one of which is nearly 6 inches long. I went back, they fixed the TPMS but refused to cover the rims under the excuse Thats brake dust residue so it must be old... ah yeah right the whole car was spotless 2 days ago and those scratches certainly were not there. They refused to do anything for the damage to the rims but will be replacing the tire they mangled while mounting. Good luck if you are a future customer, roll of the dice every time hope you dont lose it all.

The employees are always friendly, knowledgeable and ensure that all questions are answered. Great service and I will continue to use Discount Tire for all things related to my vehicle.

Honestly this business was top notch. I had a flat tire, went to JiffyLube (across the street) out of habit and they pointed me to Don Foshay’s. I was patched and on the road within 20 minutes. They didn’t try to up-sell me on nonsense I didn’t need and they didn’t push for other things. I knew my tires were garbage regardless and upon asking they gave me multiple estimates for options, from economical to luxury, in order to meet my financial needs. All in all great customer service and will be getting tires from them in the future solely on that. Highly recommend.

BEWARE. Was traveling in Portland during 4th of July weekend and found a small screw in my tire. Went in to the Portland location to have them plug it (it was center tread so easy to plug). They tried selling me a new tire and refused to plug it despite the fact that it’s a legal tire, but is worn and will need to be replaced by end of summer. Took it to Honda in Portland and they fixed it for free within 2 hours. Thank you Honda if Portland for your honesty! Shame on Don Foshay’s of Portland.

I drive for an hour to buy my tires from these guys! Very friendly, always give great advice for the application I am looking for, whether I can change sizes, and when I should be coming back for rotation or alignment. Great promotions spring and fall. You may find tires for a little less money, but not worth the risk in my book. I love the Cooper brand!

My wife and I got a flat tire on our Subaru travelling through the area. Not only did they have the tire in stock, but they were able to get us in and out in less than an hour. Due to having an all wheel drive vehicle, we ultimately had to replace all four tires, so we took the opportunity to utilize their nitrogen filling service, which has really paid off in the colder temperatures and will keep our wheels from corroding causing leaks. Id recommend this to anyone. Andrew, Charlie and Jim are very professional and knowledgeable about their trade - stand up guys. If youre in the area and need tire work, you can trust them to get the job done right.

April 2020 Update: Regrettably I have to change my review to the negative. I purchased a premium Michelin tire in April of 2016 from Don Foshay. The tire came with a 80,000 mile warranty, which is why I spent the extra money for the tire. I rotate my own tires and keep meticulous records for doing so.After only 4 years and 30,000 miles put on the tires, they are worn down to the wear bars and will not pass inspection this year. I rotated my tires on schedule and did so competently and correctly. I reached out to the store here and asked to file a warranty claim. I was told that the distributor would not honor the warranty due to the fact that I rotate my own tires. I was told that I was out of luck and then in the same breath given a sales pitch to spend another $600+ on tires. The only recourse offered was a $25 discount per tire. Thats it. No effort to go to bat with the distributor on my part, no further attempts to make things right.Previously I was very supportive of this location and the Don Foshay brand. Now I plan to bring my business elsewhere and warn prospective buyers about this business.----------------------------------------------------------------Original Review:A few years ago I purchased my tires from this Don Foshay location. Charlie was a pleasure to work with, as he handled the order and follow-up with me. When work is done here, it is finished up quickly and competently. I guess if I had anything to gripe about, it would be the inability to schedule an appointment for work. Because of this you end up rolling the dice sometimes when you stop by to have your tires rotated. Some days youre one of the only ones there, and other times theres a full lobby and you know itll be a bit of a wait. Either way, its a minor inconvenience to work with a great location and pleasant staff!

Car drove like new after alignment course bearings bad now but thats what I get for running 20+ yr old minivan so poorly misaligned for such a long time. Also got two new mid range tires I am happy with, decent prices, good people.

I have bought tires and have been having my cars serviced by Don Foshays Discount Tire for closing in on 4 years now. I have never - NEVER - had such honest, reliable, and trustworthy service anywhere! Theyve helped me time and time again, especially with an older car when I had to make the decision to repair or sell. A great example of their honesty - I went in one day saying I needed a new tire because mine had what looked to me like a terribly ripped flat. Any other place might have just sold me a new tire. Instead, they patched it, charged me less than $20, and I rode on that tire for another couple of years. Can you beat that? Good people, good service, good prices. No need to go anywhere else.

We were traveling from Illinois to Bar Harbor and experienced our tire pressure light coming on about 25 miles outside of Portland. We searched for nearby tire centers and selected this one because of its high ratings. When we called, Jim answered and politely answered my questions, offered directions, and told us they opened in about 30 minutes, which is the time we were due to arrive. The ENTIRE staff were knowledgeable, helpful, sympathetic to our plight, and had us back on the road quickly! We would highly recommend them to anyone.

This place is great if you have plenty of money and want repairs & parts by the book / factory. If you want any kind of repair work done in a budget-conscious fashion, this isnt the place to go. This isnt a hole-in-the-wall place thats willing to work with you to get you by. They have strict repair guidelines they arent willing to breech and strict prices that are non-negotiable.

I love getting my car worked on here. They are so kind and they work with your needs. Real honest people

They told me my car was safe to drive when it was actually potentially deadly to drive it and Im lucky to still be alive and not have hurt anyone else in a crash. By the grace of God I was not on the highway going 65mph at the time it gave out and no one was hurt when it all went bad... Then they had the guts to severely overcharge me (by hundreds) on a few items for the repairs following this! (Something which was caught, but not by them, and I made them pay it back though it took quite a while.) They then said all this was a communication error, though they acknowledged that they were totally at fault. Negligently putting lives in danger is not just a communication error! This was the last straw and a few weeks later I found out they had missed another serious safety issue in my car durring that state inspection. My new mechanic caught it immediately. (I brought it to another mechanic, who is now my new mechanic, when something else went very bad and I had to get it towed again. I just could not trust my car was safe in Foshays hands after their negligent inspection of it.) Ill never go to this place of business again for sure. They have really gone downhill in business practices and professionalism from what they used to be. If you value your life and the lives of your passengers and others on the road, I suggest steering clear of them.*Also, they only took such steps, begrudgingly, as to tow my car and make it right, after overcharging me etc, only after I very firmly insisted they do so and I wouldnt let the issue go until they finally did (it was not their idea to tow me or compensate me for the overcharge), though they certainly took their time when deciding whether to reimburse me.

Fast Service, Reliable Staff, Aggressive Pricing!I have visited Don Foshays two times. The first time I was given the most exceptional and prompt service I have ever received in an auto garage. In 15 minutes I had two new tires, mounted and balanced, rotated, and I was out the door. Very impressive! The second time I visited I needed a rare TPMS sensor that no one else in the Portland area had in stock. Don Foshays had it in stock, and cheaper than everyone else that I called! My son’s truck was in need of a four new tires for his 2008 GMC truck, and he asked me if I could help him out by swapping cars to take his truck into the shop while he was at work. I went to Don Foshay’s where they looked it over and gave my son a call at work to give him some options. They texted him some photos and info and they came up with a decision. The gentlemen at the counter, Jim, was very friendly and cordial. They also had to replace the lug nuts, and did a special run back to the warehouse to get the correct ones. When they were driving the truck into the bay, I asked the fellow doing so if he could replace a decal that had been removed from some previous body work. He was also extremely friendly and outgoing, and he said no problem. It was all very smooth, and now my son owes me a favor :)

He was sure to address the issue and thanked me for the review, assuring me he was working to make sure it did not happen again. I look forward to future business with them, as I really appreciate how I was spoken to and know that this will not happen again.Very disappointed and frustrated with the service I received. If you do not have time for my car, please inform me of the situation so it could be handled from that point. I understand being busy, I do not understand the difficulty in communicating that. Its frustrating enough having car issues, its even more frustrating having poor customer service. AAA recommended I tow my car to the South Portland location after it broke down Wednesday night. Monday afternoon it had still not been looked at, even after being told on three different occasions they would get to it. In fact, Friday evening they told me they would get to it first thing Monday morning and call. I ended up reaching out to them Monday afternoon to which they responded yeah we will get to it real soon. I was even told at one point over the phone you are not the only tow-in we have received, you know. I ended up towing my car to a different garage, which fixed it within 5 hours (alternator failure.) I was given no apology for the way I was spoken to, and was falsely lead to believe they could get to it each day, over the course of 3 days. Waste of my time and extremely frustrating.
