Not recommend!!!! I signed up my daughter to learn Gymnastics here and paid a month fee (4 sessions). We decided to not send her anymore after her first session because there were so many people there and I didn’t see any kids or coaches wear a mask at this point that COVID-19 cases a lot of goes up, especially for kids. Then I asked to freeze the rest of sessions if it’s possible. or it’s fine for us to paid a month fee, even though we just sent my daughter one time there. I think that I am kind enough to not ask a refund, but The drama responded by them is that we have to pay two month fees because they have 30 days advance notice sign out policy!! Seriously????!!!!
Our 13 year old daughter has been a gymnast at Olympus Gymnastics for 7 years. Watching her transformation in gymnastics has been both impressive and enjoyable. Her coaches are all incredibly experienced, and are always motivating her to give her best effort. She has also been coached for many years by the owner of Olympus, who has created a positive environment that allows gymnasts to thrive as athletes. The trust my daughter has in her coaches is evident by her relationship with each of them. Every year we get the pleasure of watching our daughters teammates graduate and go on to compete in college gymnastics. They all come in to train when they are home, and the energy in the gym is so exciting on these days because they are all great role models for the young gymnasts who aspire to follow in their footsteps. Our daughter leaves the gym every single day in a good mood and proud of what she accomplished in her workout. The training and conditioning program the gymnasts follow is designed to minimize injuries. We feel fortunate that our daughter has had very few injuries over the span of 7 years, as gymnastics is a high intensity sport and injuries are not always avoidable. Olympus is not a gym where coaches allow gymnasts to try skills before they are ready. They emphasize proper technique and skill progression and repetition before a skill is allowed to be attempted. This is where the term trust the process comes from. The coaches have always been very kind and patient with our daughter, who sometimes struggles to make corrections and perfect skills. She has never been the top gymnast in her level, (she has progressed from level 3 her first year to competing level 9 this year), but her coaches have continually been encouraging and always find a way to acknowledge her strengths. This positive and supportive coaching style makes her beam with pride and keeps her motivated to continue to improve and be the best she can be. Her teammates are always supportive of each other and their friendships extend beyond their time in the gym The facility is huge, extremely clean and one of the nicest in the country. I would encourage anyone who is thinking of gymnastics for their child or who is looking for a new home for their gymnast to take advantage of the free trial classes offered to see if this is the right fit for your family. There are always going to be many 5 star reviews and a few that make you cringe, but the only way to know if a gym is the right place for your child is to experience it for yourself. My daughter loves Olympus and there is no place she would rather be.
My wife was a gymnast, she’s also coached at other gyms. They are great but nothing like Olympus. We have a daughter in level 3, she loves it and loves the coaches! The staff and facility has a happy and positive atmosphere, it is so clean and has the most amazing area Upstairs to watch your child in class. Our daughter also chose to have her birthday party at Olympus and it was so much fun! We would highly recommend sending your kids to Olympus Gymnastics, we have had the best experience !!
*****False advertising and completely taken advantage of!We signed our daughter up this week to start gymnastics, (I didn’t know until we got there that they had a free trial class) anyways we did our research on their website that they were following strict Covid guidelines and everyone was wearing masks, that each child was bringing their own water bottles and when we got there we found that none of this was happening. My daughter is now home sick, I called and asked for a refund and was told that they could not refund me. After making a big deal about their website vs what was actually happening I was told that they could give me some money back. So essentially I paid $50 for a one hour class that my daughter got sick from! Michelle at the front desk was very unhelpful!!!! I work for a local hospital and will NOT be recommending them!
We love Olympus Gymnastics! My daughter has been a competitive gymnast here for over 5 years and has loved all of her coaches along the way. Olympus is her home away from home and I feel completely safe leaving her in such a good and encouraging environment. Not only has she progressed in the sport but she has learned how to set goals and work hard to achieve them. The girls are supportive of each other and she loves all of her teammates. Olympus has helped her become the strong, talented, confident and happy young woman that she is!
My daughter has trained at gyms in CA and TX. When we moved to UT, both our CA and TX coaches highly recommended Olympus. My daughters skills and enjoyment of gymnastics have improved tremendously at Olympus. I believe its not only the quality of coaches that matters but also the environment and culture of the gym. Olympus is amazing on both points! Highly recommend.
The coaches are the best! They do so much for the gymnasts and always are willing to help out and be there for us. The facility is so nice and kept up to date. The coaches have helped me get to where I am today and help in my decision to commit to Utah gymnastics. So grateful for Olympus gymnastics!
Olympus gymnastics is my daughters home away from home and her happy place. We moved here over 4 years ago and love it. The coaches are very knowledgeable and care about the gymnasts. They are human so mistakes are made of course. If you have read others reviews on here please know that that is not how 99% of the students feel. The facility is beautiful and well maintained. We have overall been happy here.
Oh my goodness, I cannot say enough good about this facility and the staff. From the moment I walked in we were greeted by the most darling young lady. She was so friendly. I think she is the same bubbly personality I spoke with on the phone. We just moved here from out of state. I wish we had moved here years ago. My daughter is an upper level gymnast and the coaching here is off the charts. Super positive and boy are they pushing her to be the best that she can be. wow wow wow!!! Ryan and Jamie the owners were so nice to welcome us personally. Who give this type of service? Well, I can tell you, Olympus Gymnastics does. My daughter was already a great gymnast but they have pushed her to be even better. They have set goals with her and are helping her to achieve her dreams. I have only watched a few times as my daughter doesnt like me to watch but I have been nothing but impressed. The high level of coaching in the recreation program, the Xcel program, the team, it is all spectacular. I love how much cheering and celebrating is going on from both teammates and coaches when kids accomplish their goals. I love hearing the coaches cheer and push these girls. And, the conditioning that they do is soooo good. My daughter has never been in such great condition. When she first came, she wanted to work some of the skills the girls in her group were doing, but her coaches told her she needed to build up more strength in order to do it SAFELY. I am so appreciative that these coaches put safety first. I love seeing the confidence in my daughter increase daily as she is getting stronger, learning new skills, and being celebrated! Thank you Olympus, Ryan, Jamie, and all the staff and coaches. You truly are amazing!!! I am grateful! We are here to stay!!! So excited to have a truly stupendous season this year.
Excellent excellent excellent excellent. What else must say this gymnastics arena is excellent. The arena is new and beautiful with best equipment and a massive equipment. The athletes are gorgeous and so fit. The athletes work so hard every day and coaches work hard with them. The skills levels of athletes is the best! Coach Mr. Kirkam is very funny. He has some good dance. He makes gymnasts laugh. When having bad day he make my daughter laugh. He is tough coach but he is compassion. Best gymnastics in Utah. Utah gymnastics must get these athletes. They are best!
I have been going to this gym for 7 years and I love every part of it. My coaches are amazing and have helped me to do things I never thought I could do. My teammates are incredibly talented and so so nice! I’m so glad I get to go to Olympus Gymnastics and I would never want to go anywhere else!!🤍
We have been with Olympus Gymnastics since my daughter was 4 years old and have absolutely loved the staff and training offered there. We started at another facility whose staff was not well trained and whose facility was dangerous. Moving over to Olympus was the best choice we could have made for our daughter - she has flourished under their care and guidance. Olympus is one of the top gyms in Utah for a reason!
My daughter has been attending Olympus for roughly 5 years now. She has learned and grown so much, love the teachers, great communication and more so watching my daughter love this sport is a great feeling. Would definitely recommend this gym. Clean, professional and absolutely love the coaches.
Olympus Gymnastics is the BEST gym in Utah by far!!! We’ve gone to a few with our daughter and you can’t find anything better! Our family drives 30 minutes to attend that gym when there are so many more closer to our house. The facility is spotless clean, they are constantly in communication with the families, and most importantly their coaches and gym staff makes everyone feel so safe. Our daughter has learned SO much since attending classes at the gym and look forward to spending many more years there.
As a parent of a level 10 gymnast who is committed to a college, I can tell you that you will not find a gym with a nicer facility or equipment. You will also not find coaches who are as committed to the success and happiness of each girl. Ryan and Jess are not only extremely knowledgeable concerning the sport of gymnastics, but very understanding with injuries and allow each gymnast to listen to their own bodies when it comes to the number of reps they practice and the types of skills they perform. They also make practice fun and have great sense of humors. No gym in the world is perfect, but you will not find better than Olympus.
We moved from Atlanta to Sandy, Utah in 2018 and needed to find a competitive gym for my daughter. She loves Olympus and the coaching staff there and felt welcomed right away. She currently is a level 9 gymnast. Great facility and great friends too.
I have two daughters at Olympus Gymnastics; one who has been competing on team for 4+ years and one who is just getting started with the sport. We have been with Olympus for 6 years and have nothing but great things to say about our lengthy experience with this club. I am highly engaged in all of my children’s sports whether it be wrestling, soccer, swimming, dance or gymnastics and have high expectations of those I allow to influence their lives. Olympus absolutely meets those standards! The coaches care deeply about the child as a whole. They not only provide incredible professional technique, putting high priority on quality drills and strength conditioning to prevent injury, but on the flip side, they also understand the personal and relational level...the value of the coach/athlete foundation of trust, and they do an amazing job of customizing their instruction to the individual’s needs. Through a positive gym culture, my girls have been taught discipline, self-worth, team work, how to be goal-oriented and achieve greatness through dedication. These life skills trickle over into their academics, friendships, home lives and I SEE the benefits everyday. I am so grateful to have Olympus Gymnastics and their coaches be a part of our lives, helping me shape strong, confident young women.
We absolutely love Olympus Gymnastics. My daughter has been going for almost 3 years now. Great coaches and friendly staff. I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking.
We started at Olympus 3 years ago. We switched from tumbling to gymnastics. Both my girls loved going! They loved their coaches throughout each level. It was fun for them when we first started because they had younger coaches. Who were capable and qualified to teach the basic skills of those levels. The younger coaches with the tots and subsequent levels made it more fun, little girls love “big girls” it’s like having a fun older sister teaching you awesome tricks! Both of my girls advanced pretty quickly. My youngest (6) decided once she was in hot shots she wanted to do dance. They were sad to see her leave but wanted her to do whatever she loved. They still greet her by name and ask how she is. My oldest (8) is now a level 3 on the compulsory competition team. Ryan K held a meeting for all new comers into competition and he is very well spoken, up front, honest, he has integrity and runs a great gym. One of the things he said that stuck with our family is “This is a marathon not a race” My 8 year old is now training hard long hours. The coaches Kalani and Emma are awesome with all the girls. Jess occasionally works with them also and my daughter loves Jess also. This has become our second home. It is teaching my daughter not only gymnastics skills but life skills. Work ethic. Time management. Confidence. What it is to be part of a team. Her gymnastics friends are now her friends more than her school friends. Believe it or not these kids also learn from each other. One coach for a group of kids is normal. It teaches children independence to have to do a cartwheel or round off by themselves for 5minutes. Rotations are used for skill training and the coach usually stays at the “main skill” rotation they are teaching for the week/day to assure safety and be hands on with each child. They pass off skills and you move up levels. It might take a week, it might take months. It’s up to your child. The coaches see talent and skills. When you’re ready they have no hesitation on progressing your child. Michelle walks around frequently helping, checking, teaching, coaching, testing and playing with almost every class. This is an amazing gym. If you want a tougher drill Sargent type environment go somewhere else. If you want your child to have fun as they develops skills and move up this is the best place!!! We love it here! Thank you Ryan, Mia, Michelle, Kalani, Emma, Jess, Wendy..... and thank you to all the other coaches and staff we’ve had the pleasure of meeting over the years!
Olympus does a great job training all levels from toddler- elite levels. They have kids that get college scholarships displayed on their wall. There is also a ninja area that seems really popular.
Have been so pleased with Olympus and the progress my daughter has made. Her coaches truly care about her as an athlete and a person.
I’ve had a great experience with Olympus Gymnastics! Highly recommend. Coaches are understanding with a child’s needs. Great facility with amazing employees and equipment!
I took my daughter to other gyms before we came to Olympus. We have found the right gym for us! The coaches are fantastic and are easy to talk to when I have questions or concerns. They are knowledgeable and show genuine concern for my daughter and her progress. The facility is beautiful and by far the best I have been in. My daughter loves coming to work out and loves her coaches. I am so glad we came to Olympus!
My daughter was at this gym for 3 years before we moved out of state. She loved it before we moved and the difference between Olympus and the other gyms she attended was huge! She came back to Olympus with a lot of self confidence issues and they have been amazing. She is back to the old self she was before we moved and loving everything about what she is doing. I cannot say enough good about this gym. Her coaches are VERY well trained and definitely know what they are doing. We love Olympus! The facility, coaches, staff, owners, gymnasts and parents are amazing!
I have loved bringing our daughters to Olympus gymnastics! As a former gymnast and coach I have seen many different ways of approaching athletes and Olympus gymnastics has always kept me informed with what is going on at the gym as well as the coaches reaching out to us. They encourage gymnasts to be their personal best. My coaches pushed me to reach my goals & perform my best which has been life-changing, as a wife, mother, & friend to set goals, work hard and to never give up! Thank you Olympus Gymnastics for doing the same.
Love Olympus! Friendly and professional staff! Great environment!
I did my homework before picking a gym and I’m so glad I chose to take my 3 girls to Olympus! I feel confident dropping my girls off knowing they are in a safe and positive environment. The coaches have had a positive influence on my girls and their teammates are all so supportive! My kids look forward to going to Olympus everyday. I would highly recommend Olympus to everyone!
My daughter has been at Olympus for about four years now. It is her second home, and is her favorite place to be. She loves her coaches and teammates like they are family. The coaching staff knows what they are doing, and I feel like they truly care about my child. The rec coaches are so fun and are trained very well. So grateful we chose to take our daughter to Olympus!
I have been associated with Olympus Gymnastics for 10 years. My daughter was a gymnast here. Ryan was her bar coach and helped her get a full ride gymnastic scholarship to Oregon State University! Her college coaches told me that Olympus is one of only a few gymnastic gyms in Utah that they come to look at to recruit new gymnasts. During her college career, she was welcomed back to work out during the summer and times when she was back in Utah. They are an amazing gym with great coaches. Their recreation program is set up for success with options for girls that really want to follow the gymnast path or for those that just love it as a fun thing to do.
Olympus Gymnastics has the most amazing coaches, gymnasts, families and parents. This place knows how to work these girls and push them beyond what they even thought possible for themselves, all while loving them and helping them achieve their dreams. We have now been here for over 6 years and you know when you have the best of the best!!! Olympus is definitely the best!! Ryan and Jamie are the owners and you wont meet more honest, caring and ethical people. The coaches have taken my daughter from absolutely no gymnastics skills to where she will hopefully be going Junior Elite this next year at the age of 12. She won the 12-13 year old Hopes National Championship this past year for all girls in that age group in the nation. No other gym in Utah can say that. She also won the International Gymnast of the Year 2 years ago and is the only girl from Utah to ever win it and was 10 years old at the time competing against girls almost twice her age. We LOVE Olympus and the coaches.
Olympus has been a part of our lives for last 5 years and before that I had an older daughter that did the rec program. We have always been super impressed with the quality of their coaches, the impressive athletes they produce and the positive atmosphere that exists at this gym. My daughter is currently a level 9 gymnast. She has excelled at this sport because of her coaches and teammates at Olympus! Through the ups and downs of this competitive sport she has had the support of all these amazing people. Watching Olympus athletes compete shows the amazing quality of their coaching. We love this gym and love our Olympus family!
Great Gymnastics program that pushes their athletes to be their personal best. In our experience (6 years) coaches are engaged and passionate and they care about the young people they work with. That starts at the top with the gym ownership. As any coach in any sport will say, some young people respond to one way of coaching, others respond to a different way they’re pushed and coached. I’ve appreciated the different approaches taken by different coaches to build and strengthen my daughters both physically and mentally. Our daughters are progressing and having fun while working hard...they love it!
Originally we were super happy with the Ninja class that was offered for ages 4-6. There was a great coach named Eliza who is now gone. We pulled our son out of the class recently because they have too many kids in class. They should either add a second coach or keep the classes smaller. Kids don’t listen to the coach and start acting up so overall it seems like not much is accomplished. There was one instance where an older boy started pushing a younger boy around and the coach didn’t even notice.
My two girls have been at Olympus for 3 1/2 years. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this gym and the coaching staff. Gymnastics is a hard and time consuming sport and they have given my girls the confidence and discipline to succeed far beyond their gymnastics careers. We love this team and theses coaches so so much!
My daughter has been attending Olympus since she was 3 years old. She is now 6 and the level of coaching you experience at Olympus is the very best/ highest level. Their team has some of the top gymnasts in the country and their facility is state of the art. After 3 years with Olympus we would recommend them to any of our friends or family.
Olympus gymnastics is a truly amazing gym. I have been doing gymnastics there for seven years and I do not regret one moment of it! The atmosphere is great and the coaches are amazing! They have your best interest in mind and will get you where you want to go! I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great experience with awesome results!:)
Used to coach at Olympus Gymnastics and my sisters have gone there for years. The coaches are amazing and love the kids as if they were their own. They are all amazing coaches and very professional. Your child will thrive and learn so much at Olympus Gymnastics.
Great coaches who care about my child as a gymnast and as a person. I know when I drop her off that she is in capable hands. They have helped shape her into a competitive gymnast and a confident, disciplined little girl.
We love Olympus and the coaches are amazing. This is our daughter’s 3rd year and she has grown tremendously in skill level and discipline. Thanks to Ryan, Jess, JD and Taz. She loves being challenged and every year she continues to improve. This gym is also brand new and beautiful, there’s a great viewing area for families and friends.
Going through and reading all these reviews makes me struck because I have had such a GREAT experience with Olympus. From the moment you walk in you are greeted by the blond that works up front who is very helpful and nice. My daughters teacher has been wonderful as well and always willing to talk with me about how my daughter is progressing. The parent viewing is fantastic as well and overlooks entire area. I havent had any interaction with the owner Ryan but in all honesty have never had a reason too. I did my extensive research before putting my daughter in here and read all about the background of Mary Wright and what she did for the sport and all about the competitive staff from Ryan, Jessica, and JD I think it is and let me just say WOW! I cant wait for my daughter to move up and be under them! Jessica was a FANTASTIC gymnast under the direction of Greg Marsden up at the University of Utah, Ryan has been in sport forever and learned from Mary Wright who coaches Olympic athletes across the world, and JD was a competitive boys gymnast here in the state. They have there backgrounds and they are great. All I can say as a parent is do your own research and you will be impressed.
No flexibility with make up days. If there is a holiday and your class is cancelled you still pay the same. If you miss your day there are no options to make up classes. It would be nice if they have some classes that are not full you could sign up and make your class up. Also for small children there is no formal check out process. Literally your child could walk out the door and no one makes sure the parent is down stairs waiting for the child.
I am a gymnast at Olympus Gymnastics and I advanced so much, I was in bronze and now I am in gold in only six months. The coachs are so supportive and helpful. The atmosphere is amazing you get welcomed right when you step through the front door. You can also get private coaching from some of the top coaches.
My mom signed me up for the ninja classes and I really like them! The coaches are always fun and make the course challenging. The equipment is cool and my favorite is the warped wall.
Im not sure why I havent been contacted yet or apologized to for a rude employee I complained about. This is unprofessional not to address the issue. This is unacceptable behavior. I would not tolerate this as an employer. This worker was way out of line.
We LOVE this place. My daughter has been a gymnast here for almost 5 years and has done nothing but improve. She loves her coaches and team mates so much! My daughter tore her ACL last season and I have been so impressed with the care they have given her and the ability they have had to get her back to 100% again. She is now back to full gymnastics ready to start a new season thanks to her awesome coaches.
This place is in need of some serious help. I have read some of the other reviews and see the responses from the owner stating that they don’t know or have record of a person posting with this name. Just so everyone is aware this is not my personal name but a different email I use. But I have been involved with Olympus gymnastics for a very long time. Since they have moved to their new facility things have gone downhill very quickly. All you have to do is show up and see how many people are being crammed into this new gym. I urge you to take a look at the coaches and see how young and uninvolved they are while the kids are practicing. Ryan K is the owner of this facility and has been for a long time but since the move to the new place they have lost many of their experienced coaches . Thay have way too many people in the gym at one time. For the money, the time and everything that parents and children put into this sport there are better options. Please look again before you sign up there.
I have been a part and helping Olympus Gymnastics for over 16+ years and watched it grow with Mary and with Ryan. They are not perfect, they have room for improvement just as every business and/or gym out there does! Find me a perfect gym! The people that run it are human and can make mistakes but what they do is care for every child that comes through there to try and do there absolute best in creating an experience for the children and the parents from the recreational level all the way up to competition. Is Ryan’s coaching tactics for everyone? Absolutely not, but that is the beauty of this country and freedom that we can choose that and if nots for your children than that Is fine but it doesn’t make Olympus a bad facility. Ryan, and Mary before him have coached athletes that have went on very successful paths through life. Don’t go by the comments you read but rather go in and ask to do a trial class and find out for yourself! I love Olympus and so has my entire family including my sister who was a level 10 gymnast under Ryan and the valuable life lessons she received can never be replaced. Reviews only tell a 1/1000th of the story so go in and find out for how AWESOME Olympus is for yourself!
Great teachers and staff!
My wife and I moved our daughter to Olympus for a few months after her season ended. During the few months she was at Olympus she was not treated well. The male coach she had either ignored her or made her go condition instead of doing bars. We decided to pull her out after a few months. We tried to talk to the owner before we left but we could not get a response. Clean facility though with a lot of equipment.
I would not recommend. Not what they used to be. I went here from 1995-2000 and they were very serious and pushed us. My daughter has gone 2 years and is about the same age as I was when I attended, and I would be surprised if the coaches actually knew her name. From watching others, they seem to put time into girls on team, but anything else is basically overpriced daycare at a gym. There was an issue with my daughter- none of her coaches checked up on her or returned any phone calls and the owner didn’t care when I expressed my frustration at how impersonal they have been. Super disappointing.
Its the best gym for your little gymnast.
Love this place and they work well with parents and kids even when their really busy i highly recommend
Love this place!
I love Olympus Gymnastics I went here for six years and it helped me make amazing friendships and is a great involvement for children to learn how to grow and become independent. I learned not only how to do gymnastics but how to have good relationships with my coaches and teammates. I was such a bad gymnast but my coaches were always there to encourage me and push me to do my very best. They believe that anyone can do anything they can put there mind too. Not only are the coaches fair and honest they will praise you for your achievements but they will also help guide you when your struggling. Now the coaches are human and have there off days just like all kids, parents, teachers, and the whole entire human species, so we can’t expect 100 percent perfection from them every day all day but because of there amazing reputation Olympus gymnastics has very high standards for there coaches. Olympus is the best gymnastics training center in Utah and is one of the nicest facilities as it’s brand new. It does have wheelchair access and all new equipment. The owner and head coach of the gym is one of the top uneven bars coaches in the country. They have some of the most amazing athletes training at this gym and becauseof this they have a stricter workout schedule and moving up levels is harder, and it’s all because they want there athletes to be as healthy mentally and physically as possible so they are prepared to preform more advanced skills. Most parents have a hard time with there conditioning pass offs because there athlete didn’t pass off or advance and they take it out on the coaches when it’s not there fault. The coaches only do these pass offs to make sure the athlete is less prone to an injure, and doing a harder skill then there body can handle at that time is a fast way to get injured. Olympus Gymnastics is an amazing gym that loves there athletes and, works to help them progress as efficiently and safely as posible.
Olympus Gymnastics is my top choice for Utah. After touring several gyms over the years I keep wanting to come back to Olympus. They focus on conditioning which makes your child progress faster
Can I just say that Olympus Gymnastics has been a huge blessing in my daughters life. My gymnast has been a part of the Olympus gymnastics family for 8 years now. My daughter is going into her 4th season as a level 10 gymnast. She like most every gymnast has been through a series of ups and downs which I believe comes with the sport. She has battled on and off injuries through out the last 4 years and I have to say that with out her amazing coaches by her side and her teammates Im not sure she would have stayed in the sport. Today my daughter is who she is because of this gym. She is strong, kind, motivated, successful and an all around an amazing young lady who is thriving and working toward her dream of being a collegiate Gymnast. Thank you Olympus. This is by far the best gym to have your child at in the state of Utah.
Highly disappointed with our experience at Olympus Gymnastics. Poorly run business and untrained coaches. My daughter came to practice with team while we were on vacation. Nobody was welcoming to her and the coaches ignored her. Was not able to communicate with anyone about how her practice went. Unapproachable owner and staff. We won’t be returning next vacation we will look around.
Olympus Gymnastics is a great place for anyone looking for a great Gymnastics, Ninja or Dance experience! The coaching staff do a great job at assessing the students needs and they do a great job at sticking to the curriculum!
The feeling at this gym has changed in the past few months. Much less approachable, less concern for the development of the recreational gymnast. My granddaughter spends half the session sitting or standing around. Lead coaches don’t seem to be concerned about consistency of the coaching quality. Student to coach ratios run 7-8 to one. Often a skill is repeated only once or twice a week, at times, some students don’t have an opportunity to practice a skill others have practiced that session. Do not expect much progression for a recreational gymnast past silver as the quality of coaching and class size does not promote advancement.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! This place charged my credit card twice for enrolling, and then to refund the money, they want to charge a refund processing fee. Why should I have to pay a fee for THEIR error?? Find somewhere, anywhere, else to go, unless you like fighting scam/cash grabs.
Updated review-Though we had some issues about class placement, the school resolved it. The teachers are good, and my daughter loves coming here.
I have been involved with Olympus gymnastics since 2010. The gym has taken a downward spiral since the new owner Ryan K. took over. The gym has an abusive coaching style. Olympus gymnastics only cares about money. They will cram as many kids as possible in to every class resulting in 2 classes with 8-9 kids in each sharing the same set of equipment. How can the gymnast improve if they cant even get a turn on the equipment? The gym and coaches have no personal connections with the gymnasts and parents. ALL they want and care about is your money. Please never send your gymnast to this toxic and unfriendly environment.
Ever wonder why Olympus doesnt post the bios of their coaches on their website? Its because when the majority of their coaches were competing as amateurs, they only did so a level or two above what theyre currently coaching. Theyre coaching staff doesnt consist of any former collegiate or olympic athletes, let alone someone who competed at a level 10.Additionally, many of their coaches are very young and have never been mothers or fathers. Therefore, they lack the ability to be able to understand young gymnasts and communicate with them effectively. This often results in confused coaches who take out their frustrations in a mean and derogitory manner. Take coach JD for example. Heres a twenty something year old male trying to communicate with 6-12 year old girls. He doesnt understand them and they dont understand him. Add to that his personal lack of experience as an amateur gymnast and you have the perfect recipe for inadequacy as a coach. If youre looking for quality gyms with reputable coaches who have to bios to back it up, try GTC or Pinnacles.
I love olympus it is so fun and all of the coaches are so nice
Ok I haven’t been to this gym yet and I am wondering do you guys accept adults and if you do what is the age limit ? I use to do gymnastics and can still do some ? Who can I email I am interested in the gym by looking at the reviews any suggestions????
Weve been with Olympus for over two years now and are very pleased to be at Mary Wrights facility with her background in training Elite and Olympic gymnasts. Luci Collins 1980 Olympic team, Marie Rothliserger 1984 Olympic Team, Kathy Johnson 1980 & 1984 Olympic team, Jessica Duke who won level 10 Junior Olympic All-Around competed at Univ Of Utah and now coaches at Olympus, Jacey Draper International Elite Gymnast who coaches here, too, to name a few.Coaching: Our coach, Heidi, is extremely good at training the team safely with a strong emphasis on excellent form, great conditioning, helping the girls excel at new skills when they are ready, and outstanding team spirit. My daughter has struggled with ankle issues for about a month, and our coach is consistently communicating her concerns and thoughts about that with us. My daughter is not the type to show she is having pain, but Heidi explained last week how she knows. She was SPOT ON. Its very subtle and only Ive known the clue, but Heidi knew it! There was a bit of coach turnover on the level 3 comp year for us, but for Level 4 (and apparently up) the coaching has been consistent.Competitions: After competing in meets for 2 years I am so pleased at the strong emphasis on good sportsmanship. My daughter and her team mates have complimented and cheered for their teammates in and out of competition and done the same for other teams. We have been to many meets, and my daughter has complemented other team athletes on their performance. Interestingly, most of them usually responded with a snide remark instead of thank you. That really surprised her and disappointed me. Im pleased that the coaches instill that great team spirit regardless of the facility the athlete is from since you never know if youll end up on a future team together in college or elsewhere. By the end of the meet season last year our team took 1st place at every meet and won the State meet. Apparently that has been true for many years. So this is a great organization to be a part of if you have any longterm interest for your daughter.Longterm Goal: Which brings up another point, this gym is focused on getting these girls groomed for college scholarships in gymnastics. As a parent, I really appreciate that with the investment involved. The goal is not to rush the girls through levels they are not ready to compete just to move them up the chain. They safely advance them when they are ready and are conditioned to handle the level they are moving to. So far 5 of the 10 level 10s have been invited to compete at the collegiate level when they go off to college next fall. I dont believe the other 5 are graduating this spring.Expenses: This is an expensive sport at the competition level, so be prepared for more than you anticipated no matter what facility you choose. There will be tuition, meet fees (roughly $500 this year for the meets we chose), coaches fees(roughly $25 meet), leotards to buy (they are unexpectedly expensive so keep your competition leos at home for just use in competition, about $200 GK brand - which re-sells on ebay well), sweat suit (about $250), and any travel expenses. I came into this completely clueless and was very shocked at the expenses, so hopefully this forewarning takes the shock out of that part and helps you prepare. After talking with a friend whose son competed in So. Cal. and spent more money 10 years ago in that state then we do here today, I consider this part of the investment now. Each meet pays for judges (unaffiliated with the gyms), facility rental if their gym is too small to host, medal and trophy purchases, and more, so each meet can range dramatically in cost. This is a financial commitment but know you will get great training and safety here, good team building skills, and a chance for a scholarship if carried through, all at a facility with leaders experienced in all levels of competition.
Not enough staff for the kids. Young teachers that don’t do lots of hands on teaching
Not impressed!
