A lot of changes here, new remodeled space. Faster system than before. Well organized and no more long waiting in line. I came in and out within 3-5mins. Good job on the big improvement. Customer service is great to focus on and for that, i give 5 stars.

Ok so heres how they are working now since covid (7/22/21): line up outside. Let you in two at a time. You check in and either get a call back from a case worker later that day or a letter in the mail. Its actually way faster believe it or not. Got there an hour before they opened and I was 7th in line. Do not go on a Monday or Tuesday. Bring a snack/water/ and maybe even someone to hold your place in line if you need a bathroom lol. Again its way way faster than before covid. Atleast the Skokie location I went To.

A friend of mine who speaks little English had her food stamp cut off during a very difficult time. I called this office and spoke to Ms. Malary several times over a period of 2 weeks. She was very kind and professional and took the time to look into the problem and get it resolved. I could not have asked for more.

Actually they were quite helpful. That is not an office that Ive been to before. I just needed a printout for something, I was honest with them and told them exactly what I needed. The gentleman said that I wasnt from that office and I told him the issue that I had. He had no problem helping me. I was probably out of there within a half hour. There was a man causing a scene there and the security guard was quite nice to him. I asked if they would be willing to display some flyers for school that I had gone to last year. That was not what I originally went there for. The gentleman was quite interested & told me the founder of the organization that I where I went to school at was more than welcome to contact him.

Be prepared to wait in line for at least 2 hours and thats WITH an appointment. If youre coming with a baby like I did, bring lots of food, drink and entertainment. Theres no vending machine or coffee machine and its not clean enough to let a baby crawl around. Come very well prepared to be there for a long long time! On the up side, the security guard was really friendly and when I was finally seen I did get good service.

TIPS:1. DO NOT come on Thursday. It is their processing day with limited case services.2. Start lining up at 7:30, if you can--this way youll be seen by lunch. They open the doors at 8am but start servicing at 8:30.3. Expect a minimum of a 4 hour wait, even when you have an appointment.4. Bring your charger! Your phone WILL DIE from the hours of activity youll be trying to sway the boredom.5. If you have a disability, TELL THEM UP FRONT and they will expedite your place in line. I heard the security officer say this also applies to people with infants in their possession, but that might be a case-to-case basis defending on the security guard.6. Bring food and a water bottle!7. Make friends with Glenn, the super friendly security guard. Pray for him and his family. Above all, pray he never leaves this job because he is the only beacon of light in that dark, dark place!

Omg this has got to be the worst office I have ever been too. I dont know why the employees are so angry, why they act like the clients are taking up their time, why doesnt everyone know how to do what the client requests but then get mad when clients get upset from the employees not knowing what to do. After spending the ENTIRE day there, I left with fake promises. A month later I found out that the employees did absolutely NOTHING on my case. Why would the employees take clients aggravations personally? Dont tell me every single client is hostile! Because if they are Im sure their just tired of being nice and still not getting what they need! These employees need to be replaced with people who have empathy, compassion and honesty!! PERIOD!!

The wait is long. The only good experience is the super nice guard from downstairs. He is polite, helpful, respectfully assists people.My case worker didnt care or bothered enough to help me. Its part of her job . But since the system is not working right and people take advantage...there is not a chance the DHS office can be successful in helping problem.

What an absolute joke! I know the state is broke but this is ridiculous! No one picks up the phone...ever! That leaves going in and waiting for three to four hours only to be sent upstairs to wait again. Their computer systems keep going down too. Honestly i think thats just an excuse to get people out on lunch breaks. Only go if you absolutely have to. If you do then make sure you have your schedule free. Bring a book! Youll be in there a good 6 hours.

This place is another example of failed government. Before arriving we called to make sure we could speak to someone on behalf of a disabled family member. We were advised there is a release in the system and it wouldn’t be a problem. We arrived filled out the forms provided and were once again advised we will see someone “shortly.” After waiting over 7 hours we were finally told they cannot speak to us without a specific letter from the family member. The employees are lost. Supervisors are just as lost. Perfect example of the blinding leading the incompetent.

They have what’s called “Limited Thursdays,” so if you show up without a scheduled appointment, you might as well go home and come back another time because the case managers won’t help you. That being said always go bright and early so that way you’re out of there by at least 11am.

Slow, Came in 9:40am, got a #.. Got called at 2:40pm for official check in...@ 5pm everyone in waiting area had to leave (close at 5pm) and was told they can start from the begining next day.. Recommended 7am to be in line.. Place opens 8:30 .. Good luck to all

My waiting on the first floor was 40 minutes, on the second more than 2 hours, but I was helped, I have a bad English - but they tried to help me. The staff were polite and sympathetic, they helped me solve my questions. The guards are wonderful. The expectation was long and tedious because of the large number of people, but overall I am satisfied.

Absolutely no help. This is by far the worst state and worst office to get public assistance from. Definitely need to report this office and employees. Im ashamed to have to even select a 1 star. Id give it a 0. Citizens who have given rights should never have to wait from 9am until 5pm and get sent home. Horrible service. Disgusting. I doubt things will change but I hope they do.

Go Department of Human Services in Skokie the process was real slow it took us like $7 for the security guards and all the staff that were very helpful to me and my girlfriend we are both visually impaired I am partial she is total the wait was quite long but durable under the circumstances and once we got in everything kind of went okay like I said was just very slow with the waiting and all the other stuff but the staff was very helpful with us and very kind and courteous

Not too many people would agree with me on my rating. For the most part I would agree. Long wait times. Sometimes 5 hours. Recently I had to come in because somehow my medicade got lost in the system.??? Miss Shelton called me to come in the next day. Report at 8 am. Wednsday the day before Thanksgiving. Within 15 minutes of my arrival she called me in. Although she couldnt give me an answer to why it got lost. I had a printed copy of my online application form from 11 months ago. Miss Shelton gave me exceptional service. Had a couple of ladies to help. One suggestion was get my email address and send it to me. Miss Shelton said NO. Hes not leaving until this is fixed. Not only did Miss Shelton fix the problem she was extremely helpful and pleasant.

THIS PLACE NEEDS SOME ORGANIZING and the People that work there have ATTITUDE ISSUES! You wait forever its disorganized and theres no parking. The worst part of the job is the security people that work upstairs they Hate their job so much all they do is bark at you for the smallest things! The male security yelled at me because I was walking around slowly to make my baby quiet while he was crying he forced me to sit down while others were standing roaming around freely and he just started barking at me of all people! Needs better organization and better staff.

Shameful that an adequately sized waiting area with chairs cannot be provided. The room available holds maybe 30 people max. People were spilling into the hallway, sitting on the floor or standing. I was number 143, they had just called number 35. I left. No time to spend hours waiting for 1 question to be answered. Disgraceful!

The worst place to ever go to. Everyone is rude for no reason. They all have attitudes towards everyone except their own employees. Today was my first day walking in there and it was the worst experience ever. This place needs to hire educated nice people in order to run the business. These people need to do something about this because I wasnt the only one really really upset walking out of there. I will call corporate because its very sad that people can get hired like this. Theres no such a thing as respect in that building and its a shame. I will never walk in there ever again, but if any one is reading this, I advise you not to, and if you have no choice but to, then please walk in there with pride and get ready to talk back. Higher management needs to do something about this please.

Dread. As if being in a situation where you need DHS wasnt stressful enough, you have to go to these guys for help. Their main job seems to get you out of there without helping you at all. The door should just be revolving. The gentleman in the intake line is terse and condescending. He uses phrases like, are you planning on conceiving instead of saying are you pregnant. When you say no, he says good for you as if he has some moral judgment or say in it. He keeps saying, go home. When writing down your contact number, he says six and writes down seven. When you correct him, he says youre sharp as if someone who cant write a 10 digit number correctly is in any position to qualify your intelligence. Yes I passed kindergarten and actually teach it. This guy could use a lesson in respecting others and number writing.

They are the worst. They make you wait for so many hours and then they don’t even do your work. They make you come again and again and wait 5 or 6 hours every time. They need to become organized and find a way to manage. Once we waited 4 hours, and it was time to close, so they told us to go home and come back after waiting for 4 hours. Why do you even let people wait if you know that you are not going to be able to help them.

They have people take numbers.-- unlike Melrose Park where they make people stand in line for very long periods of time,,,,, but they keep taking people in order of their number only till the middle of the day,,,, unlike Naperville who gives out numbers and keeps taking people til late in the afternoon which is better

They assist for Medicaid,food stamp,SNAP etc.You need to wait long hours to see the service providers.I suggest try to do online first because it will save your hours & energy.In case if you have to visit the office then you should try to go as early as possible, I mean before 7 oclock because you have to stand in a long queue.After long wait you may not get appropriate or expected service then dont get upset because its happen!

Even if you get there an hour before they open, you wont be seen. 2 yrs in a row they messed up my benefits and I sit here getting nothing when Im appoved, because they dont care about doing their jobs. Sitting here now for months waiting for them to add my pregnancy to my case. Im 5 months pregnant. How much longer should I wait? Then after sitting there for 9 damn hours, they threaten to arrest anyone who doesnt leave at 5pm ... fire every one of them!! Its a shame that this office cant see more than 50 people in an 8 hour day!!

What a nightmare!! All I need are some dates to be printed and it is an ongoing issue. As this is the first time dealing with DHS, I tried by phone, left a voicemail - its been two weeks and havent had a call back. I tried e-mail - nothing.So now I learned my lesson. Calling doesnt work. I still wasnt aware of the horrible wait times, so as I go in (in a pleasant mood) I learn that it gets much worse. Soon that good mood was gone and the stress began.Learned another lesson that going at 1pm wont work. Waited until 5 and left without being seen. A second day I was earlier and still didnt get helped.Im pretty fed up. Not sure what else to do at this point...

The pic posted here is right on point. People strewn all over, signs with arrows leading nowhere, escalators that dont work, elevators take forever. Hope there is never a fire in this place. The concrete fire escape allows ONE PERSON OF NORMAL WEIGHT to go one way. Due to the afore mentioned signs, escalator and elevators- I was forced to use this Fire Escape where I was made to pay a toll to pass the obnoxiously large troll blocking my way, muttering ethnic slurs that made me think she must be blind 😶.

The State of Illinois is so broke and it shows. Be prepared to wait four hours or more.Management will give you a pat answer to your questions just to push you out but stick around for a case worker and always get copies and proof of your visit and whom you spoke with. Often have to submit the same information several times and caseworker entered information wrong or claims to have not interviewed me. Luckily I had proof. Frustrating experience

Wow what a classy place! Where to start.... well first the staff have this cavalier attitude that youd expect to find at a five star restaurant. The aroma of dirty clothes and unwashed bodies drifts through the air and penetrates your soul. And the way youre treated like cattle, it really reminds you of how living in a 3rd world country must be like. Lets not forget the promptness they show by insisting you arrive at 9:30 then you get to enjoy their waiting room for an hour. Only reason I gave four star cause I actually got assistance at the end of all this. Was hoping to be turned away like the cow I am. Like I said, classy place, and must take degree in social sciences to work there.
