Captain Dave and his first mate are the best! We went out on 8/29/21. Started out very calm and got rough later during the trip. The first mate worked real hard to keep adjusting depths, changing lures, whatever it took to keep us on fish during tougher conditions. I got the biggest fish of my lifetime and a buddy of mine got his first ever salmon on Lake Michigan. Cant wait until next years trip already!

What a great trip. Captain and crew are very professional, yet they also make sure you have a ton of fun. The fishing was great. Boat was clean and organized. I will definitely fish with Dave again! If the fishing slows down for a few minutes just have him pull out his secret trick! 👏👏 Whooo!

I’ve never had much luck fishing, so I arrived with low expectations.There were three of us and we did two five hour charters. We almost reached our limit both days and the fish were big. My arms are still sore from reeling in all those big fish for two days.Very friendly and knowledgeable crew.We’re very happy, soon to return customers with a freezer full of fish.

After being out on multiple charters, this was by far the best trip we have been on, and not just because of all the fish. We had a GREAT time and if I could give more than 5 stars I would!

We chose to do some charter fishing while our son was home on vacation from an over seas Air Force station. Captain Dave and first mate Nate showed us a great time, even though the weather wasn’t on our side. It was very foggy and rained on and off but that did not stop them from showing us a good time! The reels were not even in the water 5 minutes and had one on the line!! On some down time, Captain Dave and Nate would share some stories. Can’t wait to do it again! Awesome job Captain Dave and first mate Nate!!!

We just happened to find Playn’ Hooky on the internet and it was everything we wanted so we booked right then. Weather almost forced us to cancel but Dave was extremely flexible, and communicative as we waited out the winds. He made arrangements to push back our trip to the next day, and again to later in the day — each time giving us updates on the weather and offering us a full refund if the timing didn’t work for us. He even offered to extend our time once we were out on the water, if we wanted to. Of course we did because we were having an absolute blast. The boat was so comfortable and relaxing — with a couch and plenty of seating and a bathroom inside, a second level with seating, and lots of space on the back deck of the boat (where all the action happens!) Dave and his crew were so friendly, helpful, and chill. And man, do they know their stuff and work hard! They were constantly teaching us about fishing, the area, boating, etc. Changing up the rods and lures, depth of the lines, etc. They answered all of our questions with a smile, telling stories and just having a great time. They were obviously strangers to me and my husband, but we felt like we were just out boating with our buddies. It took a while to get the fish biting but man when they started to, they came in one after another! We had a truly wonder experience and went home with 9 catches! Just had our first salmon dinner tonight and already trying to figure out who we should invite to come up with us next time!

We had a great time with Dave and First Mate Nate. We got into fish right away and had a consistent bite after. Dave and Nate were friendly, funny, and taught us more about Great Lakes fishing than ever before. 10/10 I will 100% book with Dave again. If you want to fish Sheboygan you NEED to go with Playinhooky. They will make a Novice Fisherman feel like a professional angler. Go with Dave!

Had a phenomenal time with Capt. Dave. Have been out twice with him and its a well run operation on a great boat. Very personable guy and he knows the lake well. Caught plenty of fish and still had a great time even during the lulls in action which is not something you get with many captains.

Really did have a great time. Capt Dave and 1st Mate Chris are the real deal. These guys worked really hard to catch fish. They were accommodating to my teenage kids as well. Both of them had a great time. Only bad thing was I had to go buy a bigger cooler to haul all the fish home in! 🤣

We were fishing within 20 min and it didn’t take long to boat the first fish and the get a double for for my two boys 8 and 11 …we had steady action for the whole trip and even landed a bonus fish during cleanup Dave and Nate were very personable my boys asked if we could go back tomorrow 😁🐠🐟… we will definitely recommend Playin’ Hookie Fishing Charters to others and will definitely book again ourselves. I have known Captain David for many years and he comes with the perfect personality for manning his own charter boat. But ultimately him and his first mate put us in fish. We had a great time. The weather was absolutely beautiful and the fish were biting. My family had a blast with Captain Dave and 1st mate Mitch! Great guys!! Captain Dave crushed it and gave us an awesome trip (and on short notice)! I enjoyed the fishing as much as experiencing his passion for the craft and ensuring everyone had a great time (he had some great jokes)! Because he’s a local, I found him to be very knowledgeable and took us to some great spots. I’d highly recommend him to anyone looking to book a trip in the area.

There were 6 of us on a 5 hour schedule and we did not catch a single fish. I understand that some days theres just no fish biting, but I do feel that the captain and first mate could have made a better effort and changed up some tactics to help us get some fish. I found it odd that even after the first mate made a comment about how rainbow lures hasnt been working for them, he still continued using the same lure for us. At no point did they change the lure or change locations. It was a very simple boat ride and we didnt go far. This was a bad experience for me.

Captain was great and mate was great too for talking. Just sat in same spot I thought and the reason of 5 hours with no fish at all. Maybe give another chance but no way spending that much for just a boat ride. Or atleast offer people half off to go again if no fish what so ever.

I would like to say thank you Dave! This man is so knowledgeable he will do his damndest to put you on fish! He is knowledgeable and will make sure he and his first mate explain to you the process of what is going on. It was really cool. OTHER charters I have been on told you to show up do as they told you and that was it. It was just a job to them. Dave on the other hand with Playing Hooky Charter they want you to know everything and experience all that there is to experience. ASK questions they will say often.I will not go with another charter as long as Dave is the Captain. You can not beat the knowledge and the gorgeous view that you see along with catching fish!

I cant promise you will catch fish, but youve got the best chance of anyone out of the Port of Sheboygan with Captain Dave. We had a spectacular afternoon excursion in July. No fish for the first hour or two, but David is so knowledgable about Lake Michigan and the Sheboygan area, we learned a ton. And suddenly, we had a hit! Nothing gets your blood pumping like taking the rod in your hands and wrangling with a huge coho salmon. What an experience! We ended the day with three beautiful fish and a slight sunburn (bring sunscreen). The best part? David and crew clean and filet the fish on the dock! We went home with dinner ready to cook. In Sheboygan, Playing Hooky is a must.
