Been training at Renzo Gracie Seattle for two months and couldn’t recommend it more. The coaches have great attention to detail and the students are all very friendly. Combat sports can be intimidating but RGS creates a safe environment for people of all skill levels to learn.

I have been training here for a few months, after scoping out a couple other places, and could not be happier except by some unrealistic expectations. There are the normal ups and down -- for me it was minor injuries in the first few weeks of training, due to my own spastic movements. That is much better now. The people are friendly and willing to collaborate, to share knowledge, and to drill together outside class hours. Coach Josh is very kind and helpful, even as he submits you -- he will often roll with unskilled students, unlike some black belts, and he is able effortlessly to coach even as he rolls. He is skilled at managing several things at once. I would say the gym as a whole is very well-managed, and while there have not been noteworthy problems as far as my eye can see, I have full confidence in Josh and Fred to deal appropriately with any issues as they arise.Come join us, if only for the free class! I will personally welcome you just as I was welcomed, as will many others. You can greatly improve your skills here if you are internally motivated and consistent. As for the sport, I cannot recommend it enough -- it can make you tougher in the right ways, build immense confidence, develop camaraderie, and all while staying in shape and supporting flexibilty, athleticism, and long-term health.

I’ve been practicing Bjj for quite a few years at many gyms, in many cities, and Renzo Gracie is just different. It feels like home. Fred and Josh are great instructors, they are really detail oriented, and all the students are respectful, nice, and friendly. Also, Fred and Josh put a lot of emphasis on takedowns to have a well rounded game. I highly recommend the gym for any level.

Renzo Gracie is the best place to train in Seattle. Fred and Josh have created such an amazing community and both devote a considerable amount of time and energy to each student.Their instruction in top notch and they provide a full curriculum that incorporates all aspects of jiujitsu and wrestling. In addition to the instructors everyone in the gym is great. You’ll always get quality training and everyone is always willing to stick around and drill to make sure everyone is improving their game.I really can’t say enough good things about this place and Fred and Josh. If you’ve been thinking about training stop looking now and drop in.

I dont normally write reviews, but this gym definitely deserves one. Renzo Gracie seattle is by far the best gym I trained at, and I highly encourage anyone to stop by for a class.Pros:High quality education: The curriculum at Renzo Gracie seattle is simply a cut above your average gym. Both Fred and Josh trained under Danaher, and this training expertise is clearly shown in the curriculum. The training curriculum is based on the principles of Feet to Floor, which emphasises the development of a complete, well rounded grappler. Whereas most schools brush over the standing technique and focus mostly on the ground, Fred and Josh have developed a curriculum that effectively integrates wrestling, judo, and BJJ for a seamless transition between standing and ground work. Each class begins with standing hand-fighting rounds, that strengthen the fundamental skills necessary to fight on your feet. Furthermore similar to the Renzo Gracie fashion, you are encouraged even as a beginner to attack the whole body, ashi garami isnt taboo rather it is encouraged and taught safely to all levels.Excellent Instructors: Fred and Josh are both outstanding instructors that truly care about their students. Fred and Josh build upon eachothers strengths, and their teaching styles work extremely well together:Fred has an incredible attention to detail, he provides a thorough deconstruction of every move and a variety of useful details that result in an effective submission. Subtle things like hide your knuckles or go fully prone turn you from decent to outright dangerous.Josh does an incredible job at integrating submissions and positional attacks to give a strong big picture about BJJ as a whole. Josh teaches in sequences, and effectively shows you the interplay between attacks and counters.Joshs privates are also a fantastic addition to your game. He truly cares about his students and will work with your strengths, and improve your holes. He will build you a plan custom made for your skills, body type, etc.Welcoming environment for all levels: Renzo Gracie seattle is a great place to train, regardless of your experience. In the 3 months I attended this gym, I saw fresh faced white belts turn into absolute killers on both the feet and the ground. The emphasis on standing skills is also incredibly useful for self defense situations, and improves your confidence in your own BJJ. Furthermore the gym is very encouraging and follows a rising tide floats all boats mentality. Everyone is helping each other achieve their goals, before and after nearly every class you can see some of the students working through technique with one another.

I trained here for 3 days this past week, both gi and no gi, as a visiting student with 3 months of experience. They gave me a loaner gi the first day. Make sure you give them a call first. They were super good at following COVID guidelines, asking me if I was vaccinated and keeping masks on the whole time. Not to mention the foot sanitation procedures! This is hands down the cleanest jiu jitsu gym I’ve ever been to. The instruction is also very top notch. I like how Fred and Josh drill a technique and reveal/review details every couple minutes to make sure everyone is following along. I felt very confident afterwards. The instructors and students here are the friendliest and kindest people I’ve met. Maybe it’s a Seattle thing. I could see myself living here and training at this gym everyday!

Traveling through Seattle for work so I decided to drop in at the gym. Coach Fred Borden and all the students welcomed me immediately. Everyone was polite, kind and took it easy on me even though I was just a new face in town from another academy. The gym was clean and modern inside with adequate showers and restrooms. The quality of instruction was unbelievable, Coach Fred was detailed and articulate. Class started with a quick warm up and continued with some standup work. For the main technique of the day Couch Fred taught a basic armband from closed guard but added more and more details to it so students of all levels were learning and drilling something new. All around it was a great experience. I most definitely will be going back soon.

I came out from Ohio to Seattle for work and wanted to stop by and check out a gym while I was here. I went to the submission grappling class. Absolutely loved this place. Everyone was really friendly, coaches were tentative and really took the time to explain and perfect techniques, and the overall atmosphere was really welcoming. Would highly recommend.

I joined Renzo Gracie a few weeks ago to learn BJJ (Im brand new to martial arts), and its been a really fantastic experience these past few weeks. The coaches - Fred and Josh - create a welcoming atmosphere for students of all levels and really care about building a community of students. Theyre great teachers, emphasize technique and details, and encourage students to ask lots of questions during class which I really appreciate. The class is super friendly - honestly everyone Ive met is willing to help out new people and even proactively give tips on how to improve which is super cool. I forgot how to tie my belt like the first two classes and people (shoutout to Blake) were super helpful with even small stuff like that. And if it wasnt clear already, its a ton of fun! Training environment is super clean and just a lot of fun to grapple and learn. Definitely planning on continuing training at Renzo Gracie!

While visiting Seattle from NJ, I had the honor of training at this dojo. From the moment I sent a note asking if I could join a class, to the final bow out, the facility and staff were excellent! The instructor introduced a mix of standing and ground techniques in an expert way, and the fellow students were very welcoming. And who showed up to visit and say “hi” but Rigan Machado! The fact that a bjj legend invested time to visit this dojo is a testament to special place that Josh and his team have built.I would recommend this academy to anyone, whether just starting out, or a competitive black belt.Kudos!Rob from Jersey

Ive trained with Renzo Gracie since before the move to the new location. Instructors Fred & Josh are both outstanding! They are able to work with all skill levels, and want to see you improve. We train Gi & No Gi, with classes throughout the week. Theyve cultivated an excellent group to train with, where everyone looks to see improvement and become better training partners. If youre in shape, out of shape, looking for some self defense techniques, or want to become a killer on the mat I would highly recommend Renzo Gracie Seattle. This location has plenty of parking, restrooms, showers, and a huge space for mats that makes training easy! I would encourage everyone to try it!

Being new to town, finding a new place to train is never easy. I started training at Renzo Gracie a couple of months ago and couldn’t have imagined of a better place. Great atmosphere together with the best coaching ever and now with updated facilities (the best mat I’ve ever rolled in). Whether you’re new to the game, training for competition, gi or no-gi, you can’t go wrong by coming to train with Fred and Josh and be part of the Renzo Gracie family.

Renzo Seattle is a awesome place to train! I have been to different gyms all throughout Seattle and I can easily say this is #1.Fred and Josh are the head instructors and they compliment each other very well. Both have a unique coaching styles that can fit anyone who is willing to learn. They mix lots of stand up and ground work in to make you a complete grappler. The team atmosphere is very inclusive and any ability level should feel comfortable attending classes.Best decision you could make for your Jiu-Jitsu game!!!

I come train here every time I visit Seattle from DC by recommendation of my coach who is also a Renzo Black Belt and teammate of the head instructor, Fred Borden. Every time I leave this gym, I feel my standup game knowledge meter goes up a tick (My standup is terrible). Standup is a specialty of RGA Seattle as both of the coaches were former wrestlers, but don’t let that fool you as their BJJ knowledge is vast having come from the legendary blue basement in Renzo Gracie NYC. In addition to the knowledge that I gain, I also a gain bigger BJJ family too. I always feel welcome here. Every training partner I have rolled with has treated me with kindness and respect.Did I also mention their new location is amazing? The mats are CLEAN with ample amounts of space for training, the facility is well taken care of, and there is a shower room to wash off after a good session of training.Go visit Renzo Gracie Seattle. You will not regret it!
