I have been a student here for 5+ years, this is a great place to learn traditional Taekwondo.

My 14-year-old son joined Jae Hun Kim when he was in kindergarten and has loved it ever since. Ms. Perrin has created a positive, challenging, inspiring environment for the students (children and grown-ups) and my son has learned so much. Highly recommend it!

I signed my 5 y/o daughter up for classes to add a little structure to our day. Now both of us are signed up and go 6 days a week to all the classes we can. A few key things led to Taekwon-Do taking over all my free time (which I couldn’t be happier about). First and foremost, the head instructor, Ms. Perrin. I was incredibly impressed watching her teach the kid’s class. She is able to read the room, direct attention where is needed, drop in just the right line of encouragement or kindly (but firmly) stamp out bad behavior before it would disrupt a class. This becomes doubly notable when it flips over to adult classes and she is able to hit all the same notes…. only… ya know… for adults.Secondly, there are the teaching assistant black belts who are always happy to help; whether it’s reviewing moves with my daughter or demonstrating incredible patience while doing focus target training with me. It is remarkably simple to get questions answered or get that little extra help you need. This combination of a great teacher surrounded by helpful assistants ripples outward and forms a fantastic community. My daughter has made many new friends, as kids tend to do, and I was pleasantly surprised to have the exact same experience once I signed up. Taekwon-Do at the Jae Hun Kim Institute has had such a great impact on my family’s life, I highly recommend at least checking it out and seeing if it’s for you.

Cannot recommend highly enough! My son and I started practicing here when we moved to Seattle in 2014. The dojang has become a center for our family. It has improved my sons coordination, confidence, and joy in life. Mine too. I was nervous the first time I watched my kid put on the padding to (lightly) spar with other students, and VERY nervous the first time I did it myself. However, every moment has been safely, carefully supervised with clear communication, proper gear, and true expertise and care.Owner and Lead Instructor Ms. Perrin is a multi black belt master teacher with endless tricks up her sleeve to reach both kids and adults. She teaches just about all the classes herself. Supportive environment yet rigorous. Lots of classes in the schedule. Easy location. Wonderful part of Seattle!

A few years ago I had this gnawing feeling that my life was incomplete so I decided to pick up taekwondo again. Since I had prior experience I was very particular about finding the right school. Ten minutes after I walked in the door for the first time I realized this was exactly the right place. Jae Hun Kim Institute solely focuses on teaching taekwondo as a practical martial art in a fun and engaging way.But possibly the best aspect of the school is the community. Anybody from any skill level or age group can join. Classes are tailored for whoever wants to practice. In addition this school has a much more robust adult program than I’ve ever seen before and and its a very welcoming atmosphere. The intensity of certain classes can get pretty high (if you ask for it) but safety is always paramount. Once I joined I wasn’t just a member of the school, but a member of a family. Jae Hun Kim Tae Kwon Do Seattle is my other home.

I’ve been going to the JHK dojang for almost 2 years now and it’s been an amazing experience. Through the school, I’ve met wonderful new friends, gained many new skills and am in the best shape of my life, both in terms of flexibility and strength. I’ve also been extremely impressed by Ms. Perrin’s teaching abilities. Over time, she gains a deep understanding of what drives each of her students and is able to teach in such a way that each student responds well. She can push students hard if that’s what they respond to, or let them progress at their own pace. She also takes the time to work with individuals in class and critique technique in order to help the students’ progress in skill and keep them safe. Her individualistic teaching style is very helpful and helped keep me interested in a form of exercise where almost everything else has bored me. Highly recommended.

My kids have been going to the Jae H. Kim studio for years. Right now, my two youngest are part of the Tiny Tot program. Ms. Perrin and her staff do an excellent job and I cant recommend this studio highly enough. If you are looking for quality martial arts instruction -- in particular, a traditional taekwondo curriculum -- I dont think theres a better option in the greater Seattle area.

I began practicing taekwondo at JHK three years ago, hoping to learn some new skills, find an exercise I liked doing and meet new people. The school has exceeded my expectations. I appreciate head instructor Ms. Perrin’s emphasis on students’ understanding of the function of movements and how to effectively generate power. The class offerings cover a range of subjects, meaning that there is always something to learn or perfect. In addition to the physical aspects of taekwondo, there is a focus on positive attitude and community, which you can definitely feel. It’s nice to know that the students, as well as instructors, are happy to help each other, whether that means figuring out tricky new moves, checking back in on a twisted ankle or working on sparring together.

Ms. Perrin is a fantastic teacher and does a really good job at running the school. The other instructors are all really knowledgeable and helpful. There is a lot of different options in terms of classes you can take (general classes, forms, sparring, etc.), and Id say its accessible to all ages and abilities. In addition, Ms. Perrin keeps things interesting with special events and challenges from time to time.As a bonus, everyone JHK is really welcoming and Im so glad I get to be part of this fantastic community. Absolutely recommend if you are looking for a great place to do taekwondo!

An amazing school. In addition to physical training, JH Kim develops socio-emotional skills, self defense, self reliance, confidence, and team building. There are tons of opportunities for community building, too: parties, potlucks, movie nights, for students to become aware of the power of community and interdependence. We think this is the best school around.

I can honestly say joining JHK TKD Seattle was life-changing! Last March I rediscovered my love of taekwon-do and I am a better person for it. It had been many years (almost 20, to be exact) since I originally trained as a teen. Back then it was simply a great way to get out of the house and spend time with friends. Now, taekwon-do gives me strength through a full-body workout, mental clarity through being present, confidence through embracing challenge, community through new friendships, and growth as I progress through the curriculum. I can’t imagine a future without taekwon-do in it. It’s not about crossing Black Belt off my bucket list. It’s about an ongoing commitment to myself and taking actions that are in alignment with my values. It took the right time along with the right curriculum, instructors, and community for me to finally take action and I am so thankful I did my research. You’ve come to the right place if you are looking for TOP-quality instruction and an amazing community. I encourage you to come see for yourself!

I have been a member of the institute since December 2016 (coming up to one-and-a-half years). Before beginning taekwondo I had practiced another form of martial arts for around six years during my early to mid-20s. My experience at the JHK Institute has been rather pleasant and fulfilling so far. I wish I could come to more sessions per week but as a graduate student my schedule gets insane pretty often. However, I always look forward to coming to the sessions. All of the instructors are great. Ms Perrin, the head instructor, is very professional yet very approachable, very knowledgeable, and is also focused on the details of the techniques and moves we do on the floor. She also gives very good and timely feedback. In my opinion Ms Perrin is super legit. This is also a very professionally run school (which is not what I can say of many other taekwondo or even other martial arts centers) that is also located in a great neighbourhood. Looking forward to spending more time at JHK Institute!

As with everything else, there are pros and cons. Cons are more personal( I wish there’d be more adults class on daytime, available vending machine for refreshers..)But as a current student of the place for the last 10 months and as someone who has come from the country that Taekwondo has originated, I can assure you this is the right place to practice it. This is the best Taekwondo school that I’ve ever experienced in my life. When I decided to practice it here in a foreign country, I had to do some research about this one and many others. Once you start, it would not take you long to find out this place is exceptionally good, not only for training Taekwondo, but also for the head master, instructors, and community. Not to mention the Changheon-yu Taekwondo style is more traditional, interesting, and practical than others! I value Ms. Perrin’s knowledge and personality, because she knows how to lead the students and encourage them.

Over the last two years, I have been a member of the JHK dojang and this wonderful school has had such an amazing impact on my life. As a child, I practiced tae kwon do and fell in love with the sport. As I grew up and went off to college, I fell out of practice. A couple years ago, I got the itch to come back to tae kwon do after a 7 year hiatus and was really nervous. My former school had closed, so I knew I would have to start over somewhere. I worried that it would be different than what I grew up with and that I wouldnt be able to do it as well as I had as a child. After the first few weeks at JHK, all of my worries were gone. The school is very welcoming of new people and Ms. Perrin and her staff of instructors do a lot to differentiate the instruction to meet individual needs and personalize your learning in a positive and safe environment. One thing that really stood out to me about the environment of JHK was that they encouraged me to use my previous knowledge and skills as building blocks to grow from in a new style of tae kwon do. I love the curriculum at JHK because it is rooted in the traditional tae kwon do style and continually introduces new skills to keep me motivated as a learner. I have also had the pleasure of becoming part of the JHK community and have made some amazing new friends at the school who encourage me in my training as well. Overall, training at JHK has been one of the best experiences of my life! I cannot overstate how much I love my tae kwon do school!
