We love this place!Our 6 year old has been coming here for almost a year and it has been a completely positive experience for him. Sensei Tobey is a master at engaging and inspiring the littles. The tempo and cadence of the class is fun and challenging, sometimes funny and always super cute. We feel supported and like we are a part of the karate community.I can’t recommend this place enough!

My son was reluctant at first but Sensei Tobey really has the right approach and he now loves it! He just passed his first belt test and he is so proud of himself and loves coming to classes! Cannot recommend this place enough!

Great Karate - School! Best Sensei in Town!

Sensei Tobey and his team are amazing to work with. I just completed the 2 week trial (adult program) and I couldnt be more thrilled. I think the most amazing aspect was the sense of community built from day 1. The other students were as warm and welcoming as the instructors. I have NO prior karate experience and I was NEVER made to feel out of place or behind. I was encouraged at every turn and provided gentle and instructive feedback. And boy did I laugh. Sensei Tobey is a very funny man. I also greatly enjoyed learning about Japanese culture during every class. I am also proud to say I can now count to 10 in Japanese. :) Thank you Sensei Tobey and Emerald City Karate!

Great for adults and kids, but especially for parents interested in training along with their kids. A great environment for fitness and learning.

I started training in Karate at Emerald City Karate about a year and a half ago.Even though I was born and raised in Japan, I had never done Karate in my life.Karate has literally changed my way way of thinking.Ive become more patient, I have more focus, and every week I pick up a bit of new wisdom.If I hadnt met Tobey Stansbury Sensei, the head instructor, my life would have never changed like this.Besides the physical techniques of Karate he also teaches Japanese Proverbs, and Japanese culture which is something that other Karate Schools do NOT offer in their daily discussions on the mat. Everyone from children to adults love to hear these Mat Chats.I would strongly recommend Emerald City Karate to anyone who is interested in Karate and Japan.

Sensei Tobey runs a very well organized, traditional style dojo. Low student-teacher ratio is most beneficial and made for a great training session. His passion for karate and his students is evident in all he does in the dojo. I would highly recommend Emerald City Karate if you are interested in Karate.
