Every time I have had to interact with Animal Services, they have been nothing but helpful, friendly and compassionate. Im finally getting around to writing a review because I just found a dog wandering on a busy road about to be hit. They made the necessary calls back and forth for me to get the dog reunited with the owner, for which Im very thankful. If you have to leave a message while they are busy or after hours, they actually call you back. They come to rescue as soon as they can (from my previous experience) and they really seem to care about doing right by the animals, though I realize there are laws they have to follow which are sometimes a bummer. Compared to many cities and towns in the United States, Sarasotas Animal Services seems top notch - a well run organization.

Worked with Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office of Animal Services on a few occasions concerning a litter of kittens under my parents home and a lost dog my husband and I found. Both times the staff and officers were extremely caring and eager to help. They are definitely an asset to our community.

Perhaps the apparent rude mistreatment of prospective pet adoptees is why people resort to pet shops where you may be treated politely. These comments make me extremely reluctant to even go there even though I would love to adopt a pet.

Over the years weve gotten 2 different dogs, Max & Tootsie. Both were/are great. On both occasions, the staff at the location were absolutely great to work with. Questions were answered, we took dogs for long walks and the volunteers were always there to train us about each dog and their own personalities. We spent enough time with the dogs to see if it was a match...both ways. Weve been very fortunate with the dogs and equally fortunate with the help weve received from the workers. I highly recommend this Animal Service center for anyone looking for an addition to their family.

The one star is generous. The staff are quite possibly the rudest people I have ever met with... the dogs are adorable and the trainer is the sweetest person ever (but if you ask kristian, she says they don’t have a trainer) Lauren and Kristen (two front desk workers) should not be in this profession. If you want answers and actual help then I’d suggest asking a floor volunteer or worker. By far THE WORST front desk staff. I am forced to adopt from someplace else because I just cannot go through their rude comments TO MY CHILD AND I again. The dogs are adorable and the volunteers are amazing. But anyone going should stay away from LAUREN AND KRISTAN.

The staff and volunteers were extremely friendly and helpful. A volunteer helped us meet individual dogs in a covered turf area with plenty of toys. We met and adopted a beautiful pit mix who had obviously been cared for very well while at the shelter. Two weeks later volunteers followed up to check on everyone.I cant say enough good things about our experience with Animal Services.

Recently had a senior dog wander off .Called them and they couldnt have been more helpful and kind to me. Went to their location out east Bee ridge. They took a report from me, helped me make flyer, and never minded my multiple daily calls checking to see if she had turned up.Found the dog 3 days later, but the resources they connected me with were life saving . There job cant be easy. They still manage to not only be professional, but infinitely kind. Thank you.

I love this place, I have lived in Sarasota my entire life, and Ive gotten several pets from there I love the volunteers they care about the animals so much and all of the animals Ive gotten from there are amazing. Please dont let the negative comments on the staff affect your decision on rescuing an animal, I assure you they love the animals very much even if theyre not great with people. I promise you wont regret adopting an animal from here.

Years ago I took my children on a field trip and was beyond impressed with the cleanliness and genuine love for the animals by staff and volunteers. Recently I returned, even more impressed with the beautiful renovations to the facility. All of the dogs are clean, well cared for and have a new bone shaped doggie pool to enjoy!

About 7 years ago, a family member passed away and I was out of town. The Sheriffs Department impounded the three dogs that I had at that time. All three were traumatized. As I alone could only care for one pet, I gave one to the deceased family members son, one to a friend, and kept one. She would not let me even touch her for six months. She is now my best friend in the world, but it took months to repair the damage done there. Take your pet anywhere else. Get your pet elsewhere. Government agency; need I say more? In addition, a family members tried to adopt a cat there, and despite the fact that one of them WAS a volunteer, and approved, the approval was revoked upon arrival. STAY AWAY.

Terrible service via phone. Didnt even receive a goodbye; all I got while waiting for a goodbye was a dial tone. During the conversation I must have heard ...like I just said at least 3 times by the woman I spoke with. She kept repeating the same thing over and over but it wasnt registering that what she was saying had absolutely nothing to do with my clearly presented questions. Get someone else to answer your phones, preferably someone whos professional and willing to help.

A year ago, this animal shelter did not have the best reputation, but now they have defaintly upgraded in every aspect! Majority of the time you are greeted and ask if you need help.My family and I got Zeeke, a mutt from this shelter. They took very good care of him and gave us everything we needed. Before we could go through the adoption process he had to be neutered, so my brother and I would go and play with him and take him to the amazing pool they have! Zeeke is very happy with us now, and we are happy to have him. He was already house trained and sort of knew some commands. A few weeks after bringing Zeeke home, one of the volunteers called us to check in and they were so happy to hear he was doing well.Overall facility is in good repair and you can tell the dogs and cats are very well taken care of. Stop in and see the kittens as well, they will melt your heart!

This office would rather have animals living in cages, rather than a loving home, most of the office staff have zero personality, they hang up the phone on people, the supervisors make decisions without even calling or asking questions to at least base their decisions on facts. Almost every person we have dealt with at this office should be fired.

As if it werent bad enough that i had a family emergency and had to leave my dog while i went to Canada, the Sarasota County Animal shelter service was very unprofessional. They had my dog in the shelter for a week and didnt contact us to let us know we had the dog, When i called to report her lost they told me they had no dog like that held in the shelter. I later called to report that she was found and the lady Id spoken to gave me attitude, She did NOT mention the dog was in their care but instead told me If you dont want her you can give her up you know not knowing the difficult situation I was in, The manner she spoke to me was VERY disrespectful. I called and filed a complaint with management (Tammy) and she too was extremely rude and disrespectful. spoke to me in a very rude and unprofessional manner and hung up on me, I would NEVER adopt another animal from this shelter as they are are not professional in the manner that they handle their business and represent themselves and the county of Sarasota!
