Nice establishmentWish the people who are working here and advocating for the disabled where sincere to their own intentions and not just to profit theirselvesπ€β οΈπ»
Very rude personnel. Doesnt look like their priority is to help people. Weve tried to give a donation (clothes for people in need), we were turned away every day and were told to come tomorrow... On the 3rd day we came again, brought the clothes, the door man told us VERY RUDELY: We dont take donations. We tried to explain we were told differently, to come tomorrow... He interrupted and said even more rudely: We dont take donations. The Director came out and we asked her about it, she said Ill go check. She came out and just walked right by us like we werent even there. When we called her she said we dont take donations.Very rude. They only want money so they can pay themselves, not actually help people.
This place helped save my life! If youre fortunate enough to get placed here its a blessing. There are Case Managers, three meals a day and your own cubicle to reside in. Its next to the light rail, Bus stops and stores.
Staff dont wear masks, the shelter residents dont wear masks, people bottle neck the current entrancebwithout masks. It is literally a Covid hotspot.
I have been with opcc since 2014 (OMG IT HAS BEEN AN INTERESTING EXPERIENCE GOOD AND SOMETIMES NOT SO GOOD) they are always on there toes. Try not to let it offend you if things get out of hand remember experiencing homelessness is no fun and sometimes the workers feel like throwing the towel in . But it is in their nature to help thanks to all of the helpers I really appreciate the help God bless all of you and your familys.
Great service poor funding and needs help to expand
This place is wonderful, people and the staff are amazing, and joining this organization has been a pleasure! I was welcomed with open arms and everyone makes me feel comfortable as if I were right at home.
People concern were there for me every step I didnt know how working on someone housing could effect countless many but people concern safe haven opcc st.jopesh ccsm thanks in my time of need there is a god
Another good resource for the homeless if you are in the area apart from Salvation Army
A wonderful place, they treat you like family!! Help with food, shower and clothes!!! Even when your high!!
This is the best place ever. The people are caring and nice. We have food and clothes. I feel safe there. I love Safe Haven.
Could do more to assist people without so many restrictions.
Great shelter. Kind and caring people work there. If ever anyone needs a place to live they will take you in.
The Nurses Are Wonderful. πΌ
The staff, tho somewhat jaded, can be helpful but usually very crass. The services are not evenly distributed. I guess its just whether or not they like you.I got an apt becuz of them but I had to threaten suicide to get off the streets. I was serious! But I also lost my apt becuz my caseworker/therapist got into a heated argument with my apt mgr. So once again, Im homeless. They helped me over the last 7 yrs and Im eternally grateful for that. But they sure dont make it easy, by any means! My HIPPA Rights were violated no less than 4 times, Im still trying to reproduce paperwork they destroyed, and getting my caseworker to do his job is like pulling teeth.I know they have a demanding job with a heavy caseload!! I appreciate that. But they go HOME at night, sleep in warm beds, eat hot food, have a cold drink, take a shower, watch TV before bed. Most of their clients go find a safe chunk of concrete thats out of the way and not too dirty or a bush to climb into, park what meager belongings they have left and lay down to dream of the day they can close the door, turn out the light before they go to sleep. The workers help the homeless, sometimes, but when they procrastinate or treat people rudely, it doesnt feel like they truly understand what we go thru.Ive also been treated rudely by staff as if these young people, straight out of college, are better than anybody else. Ive graduated from the School of Hard Knocks! Ive EARNED my education. If the apocalypse came, would you rather get help from a college kid or a survivor who knows where to get food, where to sleep and how to hide? We all have strengths and weaknesses. We ALL deserve respect.OPCC has changed its name to The Peoples Concern. What people? The donors? The neighbors? Its definitely NOT The Clients Concern! Were just a number.Ive heard they get paid for each person they help. Not sure how that works but if you are disabled, you are higher value. They keep closer tabs on you and dont want anyone else to help. I know this because my fiance is in a wheelchair. The Director of one of the Shelters told me, to my face, that they were going to break us up becuz relationships dont work in places like this. They tried! HARD!! Got me an apt in Lancaster and put him in Pomona. They even kicked me out of the shelter and put him in another one, leaving me on the street alone. But 4-5 years after she said that, were still together! This one worked Donna! You FAILED!!!!!Point is, if I helped him with routine things, they didnt make money off him. Or points or whatever. When I lost my apt recently, they told me theyd help me sorta cuz I was Alumni. I told them I was still a client and lost my apt cuz of them. So they did bare minimum but I had to do most of my own work. I told my worker at Section8 and she told me to tell OPCC to do their job. Im in a Program called Shelter Plus Care. They are supposed to be doing a lot of support services they arent doing. But when my caseworker found out I was Shelter Plus Care, he said Oh! Let me get back to you. Suddenly he was being more attentive. Come to find out, they get paid more for this program. He still wants me or anybody else to do all the legwork but thats the kind of worker he is. Cant wait till quitting time. Wont risk being late for that.Anyway, some of the people at OPCC are dedicated to helping. They are fair and work with you to reach YOUR goals. Most dont care that you have goals, much less what they are. And they want Exclusive Rights to you.My advice...try Saint Josephs or any of the other programs first. At least see what they offer. I wasnt allowed to find out.Good Luck and God Bless! Stay Safe!
Its not a bad place to be if you have to be in this kind of place.
Very friendly and see
Great place doing great things for people. They accept clothes donations.
Shelters the homeless, fighting, stealing, and alot of guy contact. Homeless Arabic elderly woman was beat up with out staff interference. She complaint about problems. I was told that the police came and moved her out of the building. But was later find her briefcase pulley, empty and her blanket in the elevator with liquors poured over it.I assumed she was now missing, and all of her legal papers stolen. Someone complaints that she took a picture of them.
So Far they have gone above AND beyond to try help me,the reason its taken so long is I did some things that wasnt very smart and didnt do some things that I should have.Safe haven is the only place that will put up with the things that I sometimes do.Any of the other places would have wrung there hands with me.
Very nice community center as for facility functions. They offer help with laundry, and meals when you have none in Santa Monica. The intake is a waiting process and there are not enough case workers to help with your case. Somewhat unorganized for visitors and confusing at times when they are short staffed. I have waited a few months just for a case worker to assist me with a case. I have shown up regularly to sign my name so the center can receive the funding it needs. OPCC clearly does use its funding to make sure the center is clean. The shower is private, and you have 10 minutes. It is rather difficult to get around being disabled, however much more comfortable then any other shelter or center in LA. There are people just like at every shelter/center that are very mentally ill that are receiving help. Keep that in mind, if a person makes you feel uncomfortable or offends you. Have 10 back up plans from whatever goals you set for OPCC because there are far more people that need assistance then that receive assistance. Not nearly enough help as for case management for your personal needs. Far better once again then the St Joseph experience, but as for help for housing. I was involved for 4 months before my health no longer allowed me to be able to receive help from this center. In closing for a review, opcc has great meals donated to them. Laundry baskets full of fruit. A computer lab which is one computer in the meal area. A fenced in patio. A place to plug up if you have a cell phone you need to charge for appointments or whatever needs. 3 washers, 3 dryers. A clothing pantry open at certain times if you have no clothes. There is a bulletin board down the hallway of the shower that has several community classes they offer for their clients. You can join a drum circle or learn Spanish. If you call, most of the time you will actually talk to someone unlike most places in CA. No voicemail you have to leave like most places where you end up never getting a call a back from. Most places you must show up to in person to have answer questions unlike OPCC. Very unfortunate for those of us physically disabled, but that is the reality. Im very thankful for the needs OPCC helped in my time of crisis, also very disappointed in how unpersonalized it is for each person. Once again far better then most shelters or community centers. This is the best of them, all the rest are 1 star or less and a terrible experience. Worse then jail at some places. This place is heaven compared to all places downtown.
Very judgemental, unprofessional and condescending.
Do help us out as much as they can. What would be nice if they had a place also for couples too, emergency to sleep shelter with out having to wait 3-5 weeks.
I was homeless for 2 years starting in Culver City and ending up in Westwood on Ohio & Cotner under the Freeway for approx. 6 months. My boyfriend, Kirk, repaired bicycles and the community + West L.A. division decided to do a sweep and clean up the area so he got arrested along with others and I ended up alone in a tent with my 2 cocker spaniels, Mercedes & Benz. OPCC put my friend into one of their shelters called Turning Point and she gave me her Peer Advocates #. I called and asked for help and she (Alyssa Dubin) came out the next day and signed me up, brought us food and called me everyday to make sure we were ok. She fought hard to get us into Turning Point and a month later we were in. They accept E.S.As and Service dogs and work towards getting you housed. We were safe and off the steeets thanks to OPCC. Turning Point & Safe Haven provided 3 meals a day and shelter and they came through with their promise. My dogs and I just moved into our beautiful 1 bdrm. Apartment in Lancaster and OPCC furnished the whole thing, everything brand new. We are SO happy! Its a process but if your done being homeless you DESERVE it. Thank you OPCC! Youre the best!!!
Desensitized personels. Try to live on the streets for a week and you will understand.
OPCC has helped me and many others get the help you need. Housing, clothing, showers, laundry, therapust, casw management and many more. They are there to help.
