Called ahead, asked if you were accepting away members, you said YES. DROVE OVER PAID FOR PARKING NO ADMITTANCE. Same woman didn’t even apologize for the error.
I drove from venice beach area to this location only to be told by front desk employee that they are not accepting members from other ymca locations. He said its a private ymca. I called in advance another ymca location and they said i could visit any ymca as long as it is in los Angeles area. Staff member was a total jerk. Ill never visit this location again.
So clean. Thanks Arman in the pool area
Great place. Nice, respectful members. Machines are maintained well. Free weight room is a great space with speakers set to a local rock station always playing music. Large swimming pool and underground parking available on-site. This Y and the Downtown YMCA are my favorites in the L.A. area.
Im very happy with the special program that was Santa Monica YMCA has for cancer survivors. I am looking forward to being able to partake of the various workshops, and especially getting instruction with supervision on the weight a quipment with which I am not familiar. We get to use all of the facilities and parking is free. After the workshop which is run by Lidia, I look forward to being able to use the cool, sauna and take advantage of the other workshops. After finishing this program, because I am Santa Monica resident I will be able to join the Y without paying the initiation fee and will have a discount which will allow me to be able to afford to belong to the Y. I am so very grateful for this program and for Lidia who runs the program for all of us.I highly recommend any cancer survivor to check into working with Lidia on this program at the Santa Monica at YMCA!
I attended a seminar . Facility is older. Customer service is good. People are helpful. Parker is tight. However, as it is located in heart of Santa Monica, you are lucky to get parking at all. There is parking in their basement garage. All in all, nice facility and seems to have reasonable equipment. Check it out! Who says: Don Owens
Ask for Mary Kay if you have any questions about how to use machines or fitness questions. Shes very approachable and knowledgeable and genuinely likes to help! This place is great!
I am very upset with Camille the new girls lack or customer service and attitude. Please fire her the same fast way you hired someone so inexperienced and unskilled. It’s awful coming to the Y with such foul service from Camille. Her main goal is not to help members, but her own agenda. Please hire more experienced people not children like Camille. She looks down on people as if she owns the place. So so bad. My family have been members of the Y for over a decade and this treatment from an inexperienced staff member is absolutely unacceptable.
My kid goes to daycare here and he loves it. I like the girls that watch my boy! They do a really good job.Update: Its Covid times and I still love this place. They do a great job with the kids and theyre very Covid-conscious.
Very friendly people, professional staff huge facility with many amenities, safe, clean, and feels like family. Many different activities to choose from.Santa Monica YMCA has helped change my life! I feel better physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Nice crawled. But nice. I went to pay my month membership. Need to take classes Use the pool. Etc.
I love when I read bad reviews on some place before I go there, and it totally lowers my expectation, and then when I actually go there its totally awesome. This YMCA is super legit. Amazing facilities. Rock climbing wall, basketball courts, indoor pool, steam room, sauna, free classes, etc. And Ive never once had to wait my turn for an elliptical. Do they have steamed towels for your face or whatever? No... But its $50 a month, which is less than half the cost of some of these trendy LA gyms. This YMCA is for people who just wanna get fit and dont need to be seen at the gym. Its great. No LA pretentiousness. I love it.
Every single employee gives a different answer when you ask them a question. Not to mention the gym itself is just begging to close every chance it gets. Its not worth the $50 a month.
Friendly place to give kids there first sports experience. My son has been there since he was 5 n had many great moments. Wether is basketball swimming or any other sport they will learn teamwork n proper way to play. Not to mention super well kept n clean. Has a pool sauna Jacuzzi weight room basketball courts rock climbing wall its endless.
I love the Y! I cant thank them enough for all they do! Thank a staff member. My kids love all the teachers.
Excellent facility. Friendly staff. Very clean. Never crowded.
Yes this is a nice ace to be santa monica..my home
A great staff, a great price and a great workout facility!
Poor customer service skills. The front desk lady (whos name I forgot, but she could barely speak English) gave me a hard time about getting a guest pass for me and my daughter. I will never come to this location again. I like the one in Palisades better.
Convenient but I do not like indoor pools with cold water.
Expansive, clean, well - equipped, well - staffed facility with abundance of diverse variety of classes and community activities all day and night for all ages, from baby- and - me to children, adolescents, adults, senior adults, and people with special needs. Lap pool, training pool, hot tub, locker rooms, weight rooms, yoga/ dance rooms, exercise machine rooms, community events halls, after-school programs, summer camps, youth (and maybe adult coming soon) basketball league.
For an organization as big as the Y, why the hell do I have to call in 15 days before the charge date to cancel my membership??? People, STAY AWAY from this organization! The pool is not worth it, this Santa Monica YMCA is extremely dirty anyways. Dont even bother complaining to the staff, tremendously NASTY people who do not explain to you all the clauses carefully so youd end up like me: paying extra! They made me pay for membership for the month of August, even though I have cancelled beforehand. They are a complete and utter scam in disguise, and youd be much better off paying less at 24 Hour or the like for a lap pool, and your cancellation is effective immediately.
The location is great - in the middle of downtown. The parking is free in their underground parking facility - another huge bonus. But the facility itself is rather tired. Really needs some updating and upgrading. Especially the locker rooms.
A very good facility: weight machines, rowing, treadmill, saunz, Jacuzzi. etc., but more importantly, a cosmopolitan and family atmosphere. Friendly staff.
The staff is always nice, helpful and courteous, the facilities always has someone running around cleaning and the workout machines are (most of the time) in great working order to sculpt your body or to just sweat.Great location, safe parking structure underground and convenient hours.
The Santa Monica Y is where our kids learned basketball. The learned all the fundamentals, good sportsmanship and team spirit from playing there. The coaches are all mostly parents and all volunteers. You cant ask for a better program. My two youngest are still with the program. My oldest has moved on to travel ball taking with him the skills he needs to play at the next level. If your kid wants to play basketball I highly recommend the SMYMCA.They also have amazing judo and swim programs. One student of judo competes at the young Olympians level. They also offer childcare and amazing summer camps. You really cant go wrong with the Y for your kids. For adults, they have everything you need for a great workout and recovery at a low cost. Free weights as well as every other kind of gym equipment you may need. There is also a great choice of workout classes to choose from.
Im disappointed in this Y so far (I just recently joined). Ive had 3 experiences and none of them were great. The first one was for an aquatics class; instructor started the class 15 minutes late. We were all just in the pool waiting. The class was good, but it wasnt the whole hour. Second time - I looked online to find a stretch and strength class; show up and find out its been cancelled. Third time - today, I went up for the Rock Climbing intro class from 3-5; finally left at 3:30 because the instructor didnt show up. Needless to say, the classes are extremely unreliable.
I like it! Has a gym, pool, study area, basketball, and I have a friend who works here tour me around. Very clean.
Very rude bald white man that works the counter, wouldn’t even let me use the restroom, claimed they were “closed” when they weren’t. Rushed me out and was not helpful at all.
Very nice YMCA, showers/lockers and restrooms, pool, court and weight room.
Very useful facility and clean. Should be a sign near the staircase, as I got locked inside the staircase and only way out was fire alarm door... luckily I texted my freind to open a door and let me out!
Really bad customer service by a lady who is in charge of swim lessons after calling and telling her i was coming with a child for swim lessons once i got there she had a really bad attitude left us standing there and went to sit down in her office. She should not work there and it seems like her co workers feel the same way.
We used a private meeting room there. Good venue.
No hassle gym experience . it has a steam room, Jacuzzi and pool. Great equipment .
I am a proud member of Step_Up..been in Santa Monica on the path to permanent housing, but YMCA SANTA MONICA..catagorically refused to let me even use the bathroom once.I had a problem with my heal and could hardly walk more than.a block..Over the last few years they also turned down putting me on the reduced or handicap membership despite having two different letters saying that I am on social security and permanently disabled. So this is the way they play the system. They claim to be a YMCA. but actually thats the way they avoid paying taxes. As oppossed to a regular club that depends on stock holders. How inconvenient it will be for the temporal state when I blast through the YMCA gate with a light bill...or cable bill..to.qualify as a Santa Monica disabled resident. I hope the two Ivy League Americaucasions sitting at the desk twiddling their thumbs have moved.on by then so they dont trigger a bad memory .What would Jesus have done ?
Love this y primarily for the pool. Good staff too
Way better than the West LA Ymca.
Really great place to work out. Open late, wide array of different work our options (see other reviews). Friendly staff! Gigantic free underground parking!
Location is great. They have an amazing array of facilities for the price: a whole room devoted to each method of weightlifting: nautilus, cybex, free weights, as well as another room for mat work. 2 full-size basketball courts, 2 racquet ball courts, 2 locker rooms for each gender plus separate ones for kids. They have sauna, steam, a kids pool, a huge hot tub and a low-chlorine pool for lap swimming. Its true that the whole place could do with a coat of fresh paint. Its also not a place to find hot singles. But if you just want a workout, its a great spot. Also, in being a member for 3 years, Ive never had any trouble with the front desk people - though Ive never had any questions either. Theyve always been quite friendly and happy to scan my pass and give me a towel.
One of the nicer ymcas Ive been too. Great nautalis machines
Bad experience at Santa Monica YMCA. Carla rude, uneducated at front desk, men rude. Homeless, smells bad and equipment not working. Dont come here
The place is ok no paper towels in the ladies locker post remodel took away the hand towels to wipe down other peoples sweat from there work outsThe water arobice teacher on Tuesday and ThursdayTreated me like an idiot does the workout instead of teaching the class and I dont even thing he is certified. The aquatics director did not even listens to a word I said and was defending the teacher not addressing the issue also the music was so loud it gave me a head ache the director didnt even put my needs into consideration 25 yrs and this is the respect I get I miss Hector so much he was the best aquatics director even kept his department organized tought the class properly and was physically fit I the new director is out of touch and over weight please get replacements that understand there Job not there egos
Amazing pool.A lifeguard name Chris was was really attentive to members needs. Go see chris if you hav want questions or looking to learn how to swim. Best life Gaurd.
This place is terrible. There is no signage for anything. After walking around for about 10 minutes I made my way to the front desk and asked, “where are the free weights? This place is terrible there is no signage for anything.” The employee (looks like Moby) said that everything is closed for about two weeks and pulled out a sign that he forgot to put out on display stating that.
Its old school, a lot of old people and even people that Im not sure have an actual home come to this YMCA. The steam room is smelly and the sauna is not kept up. If youre trying to pay a low membership monthly dues is the place to go, but dont go there for the health experience. Its not kept up very well or cleaned well.
I love the Judo and Jujitsu classes here.
Very nice place to work out. I once stayed in a summer camp here. We went to Disneyland, Six Flags, and Knotts Berry Farm.
This place was quite horrific five years ago. We are still good friends with another couple who had a child here and we cannot believe what passed for child care all these years later - complete shell shock. Our sons were anticipating a year-end smoothie party that was hyped up for weeks. On the day of the party, their son wouldnt (couldnt) take a nap because he was so excited. To punish him, the director specifically ordered that he watch everyone else drink smoothies while he got none. Our son tried to share some of his smoothie and they wouldnt let him! Talk about cruel and unusual punishment. While this is only one anecdotal example, similar things happened all year. They were symptoms of a general dysfunction largely propagated from the top with classroom caregivers who were totally green and petrified of the leadership. For the other family, the smoothie party was the last straw. It single-handedly convinced them to move out of the state despite both holding excellent jobs. They are wonderful people and a net loss for the neighborhood. We stuck around the area longer but thankfully found a much better daycare the following year, which is no small feat in the area. The development center might have changed since then, but I highly doubt it based on the same leadership listed. Caveat emptor!
Santa Monica YMCA has something for everybody.Modern facility and a great Community organization.
One of the best ymcas
Great place- new weight room, lots of machines and at least one of every type. Multiple pools, clean and friendly staff with free parking!
There is a constant theme here in the comments..... Its dirty but even worse.... Is the customer service. Save your money, go somewhere else. Trust me
Great place to workout and the parking is free and i always feel compfortable and well taken care of here
For the purpose that we attend the Y, the amazing Judo & Jujitsu program, the Y meets our needs. Come in, check out the class, and decide for yourself!
Place is pretty awesome. Only issue Ive run across is the staff being rude but other than that, the place has everything youd want it to have.
Friendly staff and plenty of space to workout
Great when I was a member a few years ago.
Its a shame to call a place and ask for information and you dont receive any. All you receive is someone who has a smart mouth and delivers condescending information which leaves a bad taste. I thought I wanted to bring my child here but will select a different location. Terrible service. I contacted the Westchester location and received complete opposite service. I will make the drive to avoid such service.
Closed for the Covid it looks like.
If you like sharing dirty locker rooms with paranoid schizophrenic homeless people yelling threatening epithets at anyone in their direction, head on over. The lack of customer service at this particular Y is unlike any other. Stuff breaks and you get no answer as to when the repair will be made. Wi-fi out? Whens it coming back? No idea. I only go because its a couple of blocks away. However, its one of the least hygienic and most poorly run Ys Ive ever been in (and Ive been to Ys throughout the United States and the world). If there was less than one star Id give it that.
They are currently accommodating members from the now closed Westside Y. This has resulted in overcrowded conditions and a lot of rude behavior. If I hadnt been a member here for so many years I would leave
Great place to work and relax. The staff are amazing
Interesting and healthy. My gym.
My favorite place to work out in!
Awesome place. Gym. Pool. Steamroom.
I have been to the Y twice, once trying to help a senior find out about swim classes and once with a member. Even though these visits were six months apart at different times of the day, the receptionist was rude, unfriendly and unhelpful. I felt as though we were interrupting her and she was far too busy and important to deal with these low-life questions. I will not recommend this gym to anyone.
Best gym in SM
The person at the front desk very rude specially if you are a latina
Very large YMCA! had free parking when I visited
The steam room is awesome.
Nice new facility.
This place is horrible front desk people they don’t know how to talk to people I went there few times every time was disappointing the Hispanic girl name is Carla she doesn’t like white people she had very bad attitude and as customer which I was deciding to sign up I totally change my mindWhy should I pay every month around $70 and deal with none educated people .I already report to Santa Monica department and people has right to know what’s going on here .
Horrible to give such a weak rating! Judo classes are awesome
From what I see outside, Im scared to go in.
