It has been exciting to see Expert Dojo continue to gain traction in the startup acceleration arena. Led by head honcho and sensei, Brian Mac Mahon, the Dojo team is hyper-focused on finding and training the best startups from around the world. I have personally watched Brians journey, and am excited to have supported his growth over the years. Being a guest speaker, emcee, and holding week-long training for his cohorts, I have had a great inside look at the value Brian and his team create for their startups. The passion of the team is undeniable, and they have created simple systems for startups to accelerate connections to investors, leading to millions in funding. Kudos to Brian and crew for the great work you are doing with such a diverse group of global startups. Your efforts are being amplified across the world through the startups you help to succeed.
Expert Dojo has helped countless entrepreneurs overcome challenges and reach the next level within their fields. Having worked closely with Expert Dojo I can attest to the immense impact they have made within the entrepreneurial ecosystem, as well as the level of knowledge they impart to those they work with. They’re depth of knowledge is only rivaled by the hands-on care they have provided to the community they have fostered, and I’m happy to continue working with Expert Dojo through my own work.
A business built around helping start-up companies and entrepreneurs succeed. They have training/education, networking, and they bring in true world class investors and speakers. Ive learned a lot and made some great connections. Brian is really passionate about helping people and getting good ideas to market. The cost of membership is relatively low, less than what some other place charge just for co-working space. A nice upscale location to conduct interviews, meetings or pitch sessions.
They are doing excellent job. They truly help other grow their business. Amazing community, Brian is awesome.
The epicenter of Silicon Beach. Great community/network of entrepreneurs, investors and startups. So much going on here and lots to learn from Brian and his team. Would highly recommend to any startup.
Great spot for meeting down to earth people in the LA startup scene. The founder is an awesome dude.
Great venue that often hosts events. My favourite view of the 3rd street Promenade is from here.
Im writing this review to share my experience at Expert Dojo & working with Brian. I wasted over $30k becoming a member of Expert Dojo & being coached by Brian. Please know that Brian will write a reply to this, it is his job as a business owner. I firmly believe in accountability & honesty. I paid Brian $1500 a month for one on one coaching & mentoring to launch my business. I left with an un-useable business plan, business deck, & more what not to do information than useful business information. Both I had to pay an outside vendor of Brians to do in addition to his fee. One of the many red flags. Youd think a coach would knows how to make them himself or has someone within his business to do it. My business plan was shredded to piece by a friends friend who owned a bank (yes owned). Thankfully I only paid half the amount they wanted for it, which Brian did help make happen, due to the sheer embarrassment of how awful it was. I was informed by the only two investors I formally met with through the Dojo that my business deck was lacking the information they needed. I joined the Dojo as I thought it would be great to have a coach who knew how to launch a business. Problem being Brian has no history himself of launching a startup, besides the Dojo, knowledge hardware products OR the cosmetic industry. I questioned Brians ability to truly coach/mentor/advise me & wanted to leave after only a few months. Brian convinced me to stay (trust me one thing he is good at is selling is his own business). While my product was still in prototype stage, Brian convinced me that it was time to hire people & get an office to make a better impression to all the investors he would be scheduling me to meet (note this office was a sublet of a lease Brian has & therefore meant I was just paying him even more money). I questioned this & wished I gone with my gut. You do all these things once you are in the black, not the red! Now to the investors & festival. I asked to meet with investors starting in early fall 2017. Due to the disastrous business plan it was delayed till Jan 2018. Brian told me he would have at least 12-15 investors for me to meet. When it came time, there were only 3. One I had been speaking to for over a year. Brain told me he wanted to make sure he took the he lead on it to make sure it went well. Worst advice ever. The second, told me she doesnt invest in pre-revenue business, maybe in the future. The third I cancelled as I found out from Brians employee at the Dojo I was not nearly prepared enough to meet that investor. The one company I know that raised a lot of capital told me it took forever to get the investment & the meeting were more like being grilled. Brian had told me that that one investor just wrote a check after a meeting, like it all happened so quickly & easily, obviously from my own investigating I found out that this was false. Brian also continually assured me my company would be the fastest investment round they had ever done, 2-3 weeks max. All completely false. His employee told they were struggling to find the right investors. Brian also asked me to compile a list of investors from the beauty industry for him & they would do it for me being the so called experts in this field, they did nothing. I expect Brian to respond saying I didnt give it enough time or some excuse. Truth is hed had since early fall to figure out which investors would be best & create a plan I did, over the year, at the investor festivals, meet many investors. However, even the Dojo team were skeptical about a few & whether or not they were real investors or if they were actively investing. The majority I met do not invest pre-revenue, very few into hardware products, & no one walks out of the festival with a deal in place, the meetings are minutes long, most deals weeks/months unless you have a strong relationship. I left the Dojo immediately following the business plan/deck, investor nightmare, & a sexual harassment issue myself & a girl worked with me had to deal involving a male friend of Brians / the Dojo.
Great PRODUCTIVE event! Amazing startup activity.
Brian Mac Mahon is the most inspiring startup coach I have met. Expert Dojo has taking my startup so many steps ahead, I am really happy I chose this startup accelerator before any other!
What a great find. You have no idea what youre missing until you find it. Expert Dojo is where you go to learn how to start your start up.
Great place for meetings about starting a startup.
Expert Dojo has provided me with the entrepreneurial accumen I have been lacking to grow my business. Their network is extensive and everyone there is there to help each other. I cant recommend Expert Dojo, Brian MacMahon and Dustin Dye enough.
Wonderful space for start ups, that allows you to build a community of successful entrepreneurs.
I was introduce to Expert DOJO 2 years ago and have been apart of their club ever since. Their mission is to help entrepreneurs become experts and they do an excellent job doing so.
Neat community room of santa monica mall.
THE place for serious entrepreneurs to get the training they need to succeed! Great people that are there to help with expert advice and access to financing and other important resources.
Bringing people ideas and success together.
The place for startup to break through to the next level in business
This is a pretty great space to get work done, just wish there was some music/background noise to tune out some of the noisier entrepreneurs.
Idiot didnt have the consideration to let us know that the event was postponed 3 months!!!
The best in town.
Is a shop in center in the middle of Santa monica
