My wife and I went up to see the new facilities on Sunday, just to get an idea of what changes they had made. Disappointed might be the word. At 3:00 pm there was still trash (beer cans, paper products, flowers, etc) from a wedding the pervious night. The bartender didn’t know how to mix a martini and my margarita was all of 3 oz considered the price at $22 each and we decided this place was not for us. Maybe the trash and the unwelcoming bar staff but we won’t be going back.

I had a TERRIFIC time each and every time I stayed there!I feel so bad whenever I read that someone elses didnt experience the same greatness that I recommend for others to enjoy!Having traveled do much for my job I thought that it would be nice to recommend a place I actually did experienceThat had the utmost class and sophistication while I was there overlooking the renovations! Not everything is perfect and Santa Fe is a bit of a different world! But it is a good place! And I highly recommend it Im sure they would never make the same mistake twice!!!As I have been there several times!!!And I stand by my recommendation and I apologize for my mistyping but it should say top notch!

I love Bishops. Sure it was getting a little worn but nothing a little make over couldnt have fixed. My husband and I had been going there from California most every year since the 90s and have held our companys business conferences there and referred friends there everyone had loved it. I have great memories of cocktails on the terrace watching the thunderstorms. Walking the grounds to see the horses in the evenings after a day of shopping at Indian Market and of the chapal where I hope to scatter some of my husbands ashes one day. It was Old New Mexico and rustic but done with taste and character and elegant comfort. It is missed and I am sure the New Bishops will be lovely but nothing the same nor of course will be the price .

Husband and I vacationed in Santa Fe in October 2013, and one of the highlights of our trip was our ride with the Stables at Bishops Lodge. We chose the 2 hour private ride, and it was worth every dime. The lodge and stables is set right into the hills, and we had a fantastic array of different terrain to try out: up, down, (VERY up or VERY down in some places) ridges, gullies, creeks, expansive views - yet it was still very relaxed and an easy ride just the same. We were there at just the right time to enjoy fall color everywhere we went, and our ride was no exception. Our guide was Daniel, who was also terrific - friendly, patient and knowledgeable. We own horses in Texas, and always have fun experiencing other horses in new environments, and our mounts for this ride were perfect for our skill level, were also friendly, and were not barn soured at all. We would recommend the rides with Bishops Lodge, and we will certainly be doing it again when we return to the area! Thanks Daniel & Bishops Lodge Stables!

Very much enjoyed our visit to Bishops Lodge. A bit dated, but found there to be enough charm to compensate. Our room was large, clean, comfortable. The fireplace was wonderful. The grounds are very nice. Imagine it would be a great place to be in the warmer months.Ate dinner in the restaurant, which was a nice experience, though the food (wife had scallops and I had the chicken - because the sides sounded so good, which they were) was ok.Perhaps the biggest question for me, especially considering all the choices, is - would we come back? The answer is yes, we would.

This review is specifically for an activity at Bishops Lodge. My family of 6 (4 kids) stayed at Bishops Lodge on Spring Break in March of 2014. We were busy signing up for horse-back riding, and planning our hiking around the area. When we asked what other activities there were, we were pointed to Jades Drum & Journey Circle. I looked at the brochure, but it looked like a company team building class. I wasnt sure it was appropriate for our kids, being ages 6, 7, 10 and 11. Unsure, we even called Jade Gonzalez to check, she said the kids would be fine. Im REALLY glad we went! The 3 daughters participated well, and had fun following others lead or making a drum beat for others to follow. The real surprise was my 10 year old son, who drug his feet all the way there. He played for the whole 45 minutes, and then for the next 2 days went on about how fun it was! My wife and I had fun, but it was most enjoyable because of the group activity with the whole family participating. I would recommend going to this, with school age kids, it was great!-Milo Mills, Lafayette, Indiana

Wow! Such animosity and resistance. I thought horsemanship was beyond that. Sorry to find it is not. I hope the horses find better places, since the humanity seems so lacking here.

Arrived early and they were already saddling up our horses. They gave great instructions and were super friendly. Our guide was awesome and friendly, he even let us trot for a while. Our granddaughter loves horses and they let her love and pet on as many as she wanted. I would recommend this place for horse peeps.

A Fireplace in the bathroom! Okay, cleverly shared with the living-room-like bedroom, and still mindgobbling to me. Ballroom Conference Facilities, gentle and subtle service, beautiful surroundings and tasty order-inn foods makes this place a very special experience to me. Even though it was 13 years ago in the beautiful summer of 2001!!

Very romantic we went on and off season it was right before they were closing down for about 18 months to remodel the whole resort to me it was beautiful the way it was we cant wait to go back up and see the remodel we did catch a glimpse of the artists rendition but just be nature alone and the Heights and the beauty of the surroundings you could have been in a tent and it would have been just as beautiful the staff was great the rooms were beautiful and we wish we could go back every weekend recommend to anyone it will be a little costly for a few days especially with the remodel but its definitely a Time you will not forget

The only chance these horses have at this stable is being under the umbrella of The Bishops Lodge Resort. Im not sure if their situation is a boarding situation or if these horses are owned by members of the community. I know one of the catch pens that houses several horses, parallels Bishops Lodge. As any given person Drives By, they can see these horses switching their tails at flies switching their ears are twitching constantly trying to get flies off of their faces. All while navigating a treacherous ground that would not be good for a horse with eye problems. I dont know much else about what goes on there, only what I see from the road.

We stayed here as members of a wedding party that was having the reception at Bishops Lodge. It was a complete nightmare. We constantly fought with the hotel staff on things they forgot to do. Booking a couple of hours at the spa for the bride and her friends was nearly impossible. They would confirm services then turn around and say they couldnt or would not provide the services. We could never get a straight answer. After being assured by the Director of Sales that everything would be taken care of and that he apologized for such poor customer service they turned around and did nothing to correct the situation.Every time guests of the wedding party would try to check in there was never any staff at the reception desk for at least 15 minutes = unacceptable. The hotel staffs attitude towards the guests was rude, they acted bothered that we were there spending thousands of dollars in one weekend. The most troubling thing is that when I called to make reservation they said they had no rooms; I had to book the room through a company on Kayak. The company was “international” and over charged me $200 over the regular rate, along with “international” fees. It is kind of strange that Bishops Lodge would not book rooms directly with its guests; instead making them go through this stretchy oversees company??

In August 2016, I arranged for a 2-hour trail ride for 5 individuals at Bishop’s Lodge Stables. For 3 of the 5 riders the experience was good. However, one of the horses was very old and was not trail-worthy. He walked very slowly at first and then refused to move at all. He ultimately had to be led by a rope behind the guide’s horse. The rider followed all the guide’s instructions with no results. She did not deserve to be stuck with an unresponsive horse that was too old for the trail. This was a very disappointing ride for her. Of course, the stable staff KNEW this horse was a problem in the first place. They guide even said the horse was old but still deserved a chance. Once the horse refused to move at all, the guide should have shuffled the horses and riders to ensure that everyone would have the experience of actually riding a horse, instead of having one rider sitting on a horse being led by a rope.Another horse on the ride was unmanageable, constantly stopping to eat grass. The guide did not show the rider how to prevent this until well over half the ride was over. When I brought this disappointment to the attention of the stable head, he passed it off to rider inexperience and said “have a good day”, adding insult to injury. For the money, I expected everyone to have a good horse and I expected to have a guide that did more to ensure we all had a good ride. The trail itself was beautiful but the quality of horses provided was disappointing and the guide failed to do enough to make the ride enjoyable for everyone. If you go there, be sure to ask for a trail-worthy horse and if you have problems, insist on resolution right away.

Not happy. Not happy. Not happy. Not happy. $200/night stay. AC problems in our superior room EVERY NIGHT.3 days of complaints and temporary relief but then it returned every night.Kept it at 67 last night. Nice and cool UNTIL 2 am and then we were sleeping on top of the sheets. For this much money?Nah!!!No apologies from management on our AC problems. Not even a call. Heck, we get those type calls from La Quinta and Best Western hotels whenever there is a problem of some sort.Dining room was nice but with snobby and slow waiter. We had previously seen menu and asked as to burgers and such and he smirked thats the bar menu and left to get menus. We had arrived after dark at 7:15 pm or so and just wanted a snack and not $24 fish plate. Older bar menu waitress was VERY nice and helpful. We needed ice for trip and had to drive about 80 yards down to ice shed to discover that IT was out of service. If you need ice for room you have to drive to ice shed. Nothing close to our superior (higher elevation) rooms. We have three little dogs and like to keep environment clean by picking up their poop in poop bags. Well, no trash cans anywhere to drop them at or in our room. (Not.).No wonder other guests let their animals lie where it drops. For pet owners, NO grass around except in front by pool/ spa area.Otherwise, dogs have to poop on trail. We dont like to do that.Pretty surroundings and nice trails but no mountain views to be has EXCEPT from the top if our small/cozy 3 car parking area.We paid for a mountain view and got TREES. Pretty setting but not at $200/night with no mountains. Now, on our drive up from Santa Fe we saw some mountains an that was free.Never coming back. Waste of hard earned money.

I stayed here a few years ago and it was so nice. This time my room was old, moldy smelling with dingy towels and sheets, stained furniture, and generally pretty gross. I did not want to shower in the shower, as it had cracked tiles, dirty glass sliding doors, etc. I complained at the desk and they said I should book a premium room. The room was $164, so it wasnt cheap, and it was off season. I will never stay there again.

I had an absolutely terrible and racially charged experience at Las Fuentes Restaurant at Bishops Lodge. I had made reservations nearly 2 weeks in advance, but when we arrived, there was a party for a local Law firm that apparently caused the rest of the Bishops Lodge staff to forget that there were other customers. We ended up waiting for our table for about 45 minutes. When the hostess finally arrived, she didnt believe we had a reservation and I spent another 5 minutes explaining to her that I was who I said I was and I did, indeed, have a reservation. The restaurant we made our reservation for was too full, so the hostess took us downstairs to Las Fuentes. When we got there, we were ready to relax and expected the rest of the night to go smoothly, but that was not the case. The staff at Las Fuentes was so incredibly rude and racist towards me (a black woman) and my dinner guest (a hispanic man), both of us clearly American and familiar with cultural dining practices. After ordering our food (but before it arrived) the waiter felt the need to come back to our table while we were enjoying a glass of wine for the purpose of reminding us that, it is customary for you to tip 15%. The waiter then stood there and crossed his arms with his eyebrows raised until we said we understood. I was totally and completely shocked! The waiter obviously had no interest in serving us, and stared us down and whispered with the bartender the whole time we were eating, as if we didnt belong there. The sweet, elderly, white couple sitting nearby gave us a sympathetic look and told us not to worry because they could tell how upset I was. After our food came, the waiter immediately brought us our check. He didnt ask if we wanted more wine, or dessert and didnt ask us how the food was. He just wanted us to leave. I was so shocked and appalled at the overwhelming rudeness of the waiter throughout our meal, I couldnt even eat their over-priced, dry, mealy, bland crab cakes. I made sure when we left (probably only 35 minutes after sitting down) we only left the customary 15% even though I typically leave 30%. I spent the ride home apologizing profusely to my dinner guest for what he had to endure. We are both respectable, successful and highly professional young people (mid-20s) and we did not deserve to be treated that way. Bishops Lodge is a joke. I will not be patronizing this business ever again, I will never recommend it, and I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. It was hands down the worst dining experience Ive had in my entire life.

My opinion is quite divided on this establishment.Bad points:- Check-in is at 4 p.m. and we had to wait until 5 p.m. to get our keys- Communication about the facilities was confused: I still dont know if all hotel activities were included in the package that you have to take (in addition) to the hotel room. The employees seemed as lost as I was elsewhere- Paying facilities at 5 p.m. for the same day is a bit of a waste in my opinion: difficult to take advantage of the 8h yoga class for example.- Communication about breakfast (included in my price) was just as bad because every time I was given an invoice.- I couldnt find the prices for the spa anywhere.- The TV is probably older than meGood points:- The room is super big!- The hospitality products are top- The pool + super jaccuzi- Airy and well-equipped gym- Super quiet places- Breakfast buffet on Sunday is great
