An old reliable. Great selection of entrees in an attractive, clean and welcoming venue. Very good Caesar -- theyll serve a half too -- and solid Italian specialties. A throwback, old school place that always delivers value and excellent service. 4.5 overall.

We ordered calamari as an appetizer and carbonara and beef as the main dish. We ate up all the food in our seats without even talking. The service was very good and the food was delicious.

Weve had both excellent service and....okay service and different times. For the most part, its been excellent service. We were here on a Sunday and had an older female server. She was very professional and consistent. Although she had a very large party to attend to, she was still able to attend to us without compromising the service.I ordered the chicken breast piccata with potatoes and vegetables. She ordered the fried oysters with veggies and pots. The funniest thing about this place is that they have a side of peas available to order. We ordered a side of peas and shared them. They were really good. All of the food was really good.The only downside at this place is that sometimes it could feel very hot and muggy inside if they have the heaters on high. Other than that, the food and service is really good.

The clam chowder was among the best Ive ever had. I also really enjoyed the calamari fritti appetizer. The tartar sauce & cocktail sauce were good too. The ravioli was one of the best side dishes that Ive had in recent memory.

Lunch today was bland. Carbonara pasta was not al dente and the carbornara did not have flavor. The price for the lunch was not awesome like last time.The dishes looked good, but were not tasty.All dishes lacked flavor.Beers were great.I will contemplate going back again.

During this past year of covid, our family would not have enjoyed our special family dinners if we did not have San Rafael Joes. we were able to get it home and enjoyed their great Italian meals. Their pastas are always great and their pesto is fabulous. It actually travelled very well due to the care they took in packing it to go. I can not wait until we can start going back to Joes on a regular basis, now that we have been partially released.

This downtown Marin restaurant is a local icon. Staff are friendly and helpful, food is good and the menu features a varied selection that should please just about everyone. There is even a special vegan menu! I thought it was a bit pricey but not outrageous. Id go back. Recommended, give it a try!

Family style, food cooked to perfection, and beautifully presented. Full bar. Most importantly, very courteous and friendly staff. On the main strip in San Rafael. Go by yourself, with friends, with a group. Reservations encouraged but not always necessary.

Just a great place to have a drink after work, or a whole meal. Ravioli are my favorite, but the burger is great too. Nothing bad to say, except it is too far away to eat there as often as I want.

Grew up going to Joes and it still holds a special place in my heart. Tonight had the pesto chicken and beet salad which was delicious although beets were sparse. But portions are enormous and could be reduced. You really cant doggy bag a salad so I ate until I was stuffed.

I admire this spot! They serve tasty food, they have a rich menu, The chef in that spot is well trained, I love a lot trying all their food. The dishes are always good, the attitude towards the clients is very good too. I often go to this restaurant and I not even once was unsatisfied. I highly recommend it.

Really fun old school restaurant. Staff was awesome. Love being able to have table clothes with out paying $100/head. Lots of long time regulars. I enjoyed the Italian pot roast with mixed vegetables. Menu a mix of Italian american dishes. Something for everyone. Gave me happy childhood memories of Marin in the 60s.

The food is exceptional and the service is great. Its a long time family owned restaurant in San Rafael and it shows. Most of the patrons are local regulars and there is a reason for that! Try it... You wont be sorry. 👍

This old-school establishment has service down to a T. We were met by a cheerful hostess who sat us at a nice table Friday evening. The bus boy came by to drop by water, bread and butter. Cheerful waitress came by to quickly take our order.Noticed that 90% of everyone in this establishment was 60 years old or older. It caters to that older crowd who eat traditional meals such as these. Pasta, Sandwiches, meat and such. Nothing fancy, just BASIC fare that is made well.Food is good...prices are $17 and up for large portions. Everything is a la carte. This location has a nice bar, TVs are on (silent) for watching local games. Lots of free parking after 6pm on street and in the parking structure.

What happened to San Rafael Joes?! It used to be so good. Had lunch there today and was so disappointed. My friend’s sandwich came to the table incorrectly prepared. I ordered calamari with spaghetti w/marinara sauce to go. Just opened up the container for dinner and discovered a mass of mashed potatoes and wilted vegetables with the small amount of calamari. No spaghetti. So disappointed!

Credo has great service, good happy hour and really good food. The drinks are stiff and the food is made with fresh, local ingredients. Its a little pricey, but worth it. A solid choice for an upscale lunch or dinner after or during work.

This place has the best horseradish sauce ever! I took a friend, we where driving, so we took it to go. Asked for extra ketchup got 3 packets. Asked for salt... none..Asked for lots of napkins... got non. Waitress was kind,not frazzled, and I repeated my requests as she handed me 3 bags of food all tied shut. It was a super bummer to have to wait until over the 580 bridge to stop at a gas station for those simple items. COMMON SENSE. SAD

Even if the fancy burger was overpriced 20 dollars ? And the fries too salty.. I would go for drinks only loved the music and atmosphere had great vibe ..

Service was excellent. Food was very good. Its been years since Ive been here and it is still one of the best places to eat. Took the smart train down to San Rafael from Santa Rosa. Great trip all together.

Excellent food and service, plenty of room for indoor dining

The staff is consistently friendly, even willing to set up a surprise dinner. The food is good, not great. I would NOT recommend the steak - weve ordered it twice and have been disappointed both times. Simple Italian dishes were good at a reasonable price. It is certainly convenient to have the parking lot directly behind the restaurant.

The service and the food were quite excellent; but since I first began frequenting the restaurant back in the early part of the century, their prices have become increasingly prohibitive. Were it not for this I would have given them a five star rating instead of four.

A grand Pasta lunch with a friend is a great way to spend the mid-day hours and Joes is my go-to place to accomplish same. Fine food and excellent service!

True family restaurant that you rarely see these days. If you want something a little different than it is on the menu they will change it to make it the way you want it. Nothing fancy, just really good good food. The way Grandma made it. Always very friendly service and the customer is always right. Stover can be match with any 5 star hot stuff restaurant of the day at 3 times the process. Father daughter, wife, sisters, theyre all there. Wait staff have all been there for years. Good value, good food, great staff and customer service the way it used to be. Everything on the menu is really good. Bring your appetite.

I have been dining here for over 40 years. It is consistently great and the staff are helpful. There are many Joes restaurants. It was remodeled some years back but really I like it either way. A meatball sandwich (one of my favorites) I get to go. Besides being huge you get extra tomato sauce. Takes me 2 meals to finish it. Another is pasta pomadoro. A light marinara sauce (delicious) over angel hair pasta. I have never had a bad meal here. Happy dining!

The pan fried prawns were good, mash potatoes - bland, veggies - excellent! Spaghetti w/ tomato sauce - excellent. Steak dinner - a bit better than ok. Service was excellent. Attentive and friendly.

This restaurant has a wide variety of choices. They have gluten free pasta with a wonderful butter and garlic sauce. The wait staff is so friendly! The chefs are excellent! My favorite place to eat.

Had the roast lamb dip sandwich with the thick cut fries, with a side of horseradish. The lamb was extremely tender and flavorful. The au jus for dipping was really good as well.

As always, another satisfied experience at Joes. I have been to about 4 other Joes throughout the bay and never have had a bad experience. An older crowd but its because all the regulars have been coming there for years probably since it is such a solid spot. The calamari was perfectly fried, nice large portion, tartar sauce was excellent! My boyfriend got the Chicken Alfredo and I got the Spaghetti and Meatballs. These are real Italian Family Style portions. I love having leftovers from Joes.Service was on point! Lounge by the fire was just what we needed on a rainy day before heading back home to the East Bay.

Smoke mozzarella mushroom appetizer, lasagna and lamb were superb. Excellent service. Sweet, romantic atmosphere.

Great burgers and fries. 8 ounce burgers, cheese and fixins, and of course, fries and a beer. Loads of traditional Italian American fare as well. Cant speak to their taste, but the pasta dishes and soups I saw, looked plentiful and smelled delicious. Yum! Atmosphere to boot! Go, eat well, enjoy! In my opinion, a gem of an eatery.

The Undead Speaking Society has their monthly luncheon on Wednesdays.Getting the picture yet?Food is frankly bad.... youd be better off microwaving something from Safeway. The only saving grace is the service is friendly and it really tries hard, but the entire restaurant needs a massive makeover.I suspect that the only reason this place is open is because date nights from 40 years ago happened here. I like to think thats the case, because that makes me smile and makes me happy.Other than that, dont go here. Youve been warned.

It was ok. I had the linguini with clams. It needed a little somerhing. Maybe salt in the pasta water.. Husband has a seafood platter. The fish had an egg coating on it. I tried a bite and did not like it at all. The waitress was nice and they had live music that was very good. After diner we sat at the bar and had a drink and listened to the music.. that was very nice

Friendly staff, impressively-dirty tablecloth, terrible food. Both the eggplant parm and the lamb rotisserie special were so bad we couldnt even eat half.

This restaurant is a great venue for all occasions, specially to take the family or just the stress out. There is life music on weekends and the ambiance is very friendly. Food is great the, portions are very generous and the service is just amazing. I wanted to have chicken primavera and even though is not on the menu I got it and it was delicious. They have a great bar setting and if you must see your food being orchestrated; you can sit by the kitchen glass and see the kitchen personnel do their magic. as for the prices well you know you are in Marin so consider a $30 per person dinner or more and is well worth the price for the experience..

Awesome service, but the food was really so so. Nothing Id rush back for, and kind of on the pricey side. My grilled cheese was uninspired even though the waiter thought it would be amazing to use thier sourdough dinner bread. It was cheese on bread grilled. Almost no flavor. The shoestring fries were very bland as well. I like the atmosphere, and the staff were very friendly and attentive.

There is good parking but you have to pay for it. I dont know how good the food was we were thereafter a funeral with a limited menu. What was served was tasty but limited.

Excellent old school Italian restaurant. Suspect the menu has been perfected over decades and it wont change at this point until the sun expands and consumes the Earth 5 billion years from now. Parking on street is easy. Only downside is its a little pricey and no one will ever say this is the hip new spot.

Its nice kind of out of the way

The food was just not good. They got my husbands order totally wrong and it was so salty it was literally inedible. We tried calling back for over an hour. Eventually we just gave up on giving them a chance to rectify multiple failures.

Small, expensive portions of very mediocre food. Ravioli like chef boy ar dee. Alfredo like sticky paste soup. Dont understand all the good teviews.

Had the Spaghetti with meat sauce. In my culinary travels certainly not my favorite. The sauce had that corn starch gummy flavor & consistency with barely any meat. Worse yet came out barely above room temperature. Bleh.The setting is ok with white table cloth and service was spot on. Very nice waitress. Perhaps order something else from the menu.

I highly recommend SR Joes as my second home. The food is excellent and all the persons are above and beyond the call of duty. There is not more I can pay. The cooks are fabulous.

One of my favorite places in Marin to hang out and relax & socialize. Its my go-to for friends or family coming from out of town too. Casual but classy at the same time. I like that they are family owned vs a chain too! Ive been there several times in the 2-3 years and Ive noticed a mixed clientele (like a neighborhood restaurant). I like it that way. Ive had my kids here with no hesitations and Ive held a few happy hour get-togethers with co-workers. They all had fun and suggested we make it regular place to go to.
